201  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: how many sha256 hashes can a consumer-grade CPU compute per second in average? on: October 28, 2023, 12:48:15 AM
Keep in mind that Intel, AMD,et al have had support for hardware sha256 functions since at least 2013 and the more recent generations of Intel & AMD cpu's now have said hardware built into the chip. Sorta like the early PC days when there were 1st math coprocessors for the 186, 286 & 386 cpu's followed by the 486 with the coprocessor in the CPU chip. Details of the Intel extensions is here.

Thing is that they are for full data encryption & decryption functions both of which rely on knowing both the private and public keys for speedy processing - not mining where we only try to randomly find the right key.

I tagged him.
Rather like Wack-A-Mole (TM). A newb using the same dl link & referral id did the same yesterday. Betcha it's the same person... Promptly reported to mods who seem to be very fast in dealing with them - like within minutes they're gone  Grin Grin

This software will help to mine cryptocurrency.
<likely malware link removed>
That's right, just go around spamming topics with your malware dl and referral link...
All reported to the mods for removal
204  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Which ASIC miner to choose for Bitcoin Mining? on: October 24, 2023, 03:13:08 PM
At OP & others: Getting waayy of the section topic folks...
Lose the crapcoin bullshit as it has NO place here. Ya know - BTC only section and all...
Huh?  Shocked
Do you even know what you are talking about? I am somewhat puzzled and haven't gotten you enough yet.
If I understand you correctly, you are concerned about the Iceriver Kaspa miners that we were talking about. Well, that comes from when we discussed profitability and the electricity cost. Of course, I had no intention of talking about altcoin miners in the Bitcoin mining section. Sometimes, topic A is related to topic B, and there is nothing wrong when you talk about it. The overall discussion was about which ASIC miner to start Bitcoin Mining.
Perhaps you should read BITCOIN MINING INTRO & RULES OF THIS SUBFORUM - READ BEFORE POSTING
Specifically point-2:
2. This section is for BITCOIN MINING and related discussion ONLY. All bitcoin forks and alternate cryptocurrencies and discussion of them should be directed to a dedicated forum for those, or one of the altcoin subforums on this forum. All discussion regarding them will be moved without warning to the altcoin sections. If your topic is related to multiple currencies, then unless it is primarily about bitcoin it will be moved. Even if it is about sha256d mining but not about bitcoin it will be moved.

As Stompix suggested, once the conversations go off topic - move or continue them where the new direction (altcoins) belongs.

206  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Solo mining help on: October 23, 2023, 12:25:35 PM
...
Yeap but it is a small pool. If the pool is not lucky, you can maybe wait and mine for years before the pool find a block.
...
Um, when solo mining the size of the pool is irrelevant... All that matters is YOUR hash rate and YOUR luck. That said, kano has several nodes spread across the planet so one should be near you.
207  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Running power supplies of high frequency power, 80 hz and above on: October 20, 2023, 09:44:41 PM
I am planning to just do it and see if it catches fire actually, but certainly hoping someone can shed technical light whether these switching power supplies can manage a higher frequency.
Figured that the necro bump deserved a proper answer to the OP so...
If it was 'just' a switching supply with NO input power-factor compensation then yes 80Hz would work fine but it will not increase power per-se, the PSU just pulls lower current and it will certainly not increase power out of the PSU because that is set by the regulator(s) in the PSU.

That said, for the past oh, 10 years or so in the interest of increasing PSU efficiency and even more importantly greatly reduce/virtually eliminate the high power-factor that any capacitor input load presents to the power line all PSU's that can deliver more than 500W are required to use PFC (Power Factor Control) circuits and those are very sensitive to frequency. Go outside the 50-60Hz design parameters and yes, the Majik Smoke will escape...

I should add that one cannot just 'goose the throttle'... yeah you could fiddle with the carburetor to speed up the engine but - at a bare minimum the genset has a mechanical speed governor and most likely an electronic one you'd have to hack. Then there the circuits that regulate the voltage out of the genset. Bet they won't like it...
208  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: New solo miner on ckpool on: October 20, 2023, 08:00:25 PM
It wont let me delete... sorry
NP though click on your opening post and at the very bottom-left corner of the page you should see "Lock topic" to keep it from being needlessly responded to.

Excellent - been waiting to hear about what Block is doing with the chips & IP they bought from Intel.
Any info on the chip J/Th specs?

214  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Braiins OS+ support thread on: October 17, 2023, 03:13:38 PM
Hey everyone I'm relatively new to the world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, and I have a few questions.
Can someone help clarify the process of setting up a secure Bitcoin wallet and the best practices for keeping my investments safe? I've heard about hardware wallets and software wallets, but i'm not sure which one is right for me. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
1st - learn how to use a Forum... One does not just blindly post wherever they want to. Forums have specific areas dedicated to specific topics. Posting off-topic questions wherever you happen to be just ticks folks off and does not encourage them to give you the answers you need...
2nd - repeating the question 2x is just....  Roll Eyes

In your case the correct area is Beginners & Help where you find your answers.
215  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 277 blocks solved! on: October 16, 2023, 10:10:26 PM
Is pool OK for solo mining BTC with 3TH (low diff)?
Yes, even just a couple 10's of GHs is just fine.
216  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How does the bitcoin mining industry work? on: October 16, 2023, 02:32:43 PM
...
**2. Proof of Work:** The miners then compete to solve a complex mathematical problem based on a cryptographic hash algorithm. The solution to the problem is called the Proof of Work.
...
Pretty much the entire post is WRONG and also smacks of being AI generated.
There is no 'complex equation' or 'complex problems' involved anywhere in the SHA encryption/decryption process nor in the mining process. Encryption/decryption is a very straight forward process which is why it can be so easily hard-coded into an array of logic gates on a chip.

Mining is just submitting random guesses to match a hash with the work sent by the pools.
217  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Help with cloud mining please! on: October 16, 2023, 02:26:05 PM
^^ ... Yes it is most definitely a SCAM..
What is so hard for folks to understand that only ASIC-based hardware can mine BTC and provided you have very cheap power have a chance of profit?...
218  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s19k_pro - no sd card slot? on: October 16, 2023, 02:19:37 PM
There is no such thing as a 'micro SD connection'... Did you mean a micro-USB connection?
There *is* a micro-SD card and slot.

220  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Share your Bitcoin Mining Strategies. on: October 14, 2023, 12:48:59 AM
Small miners can also mine Bitcoin in their private home or garage if there is cheap electricity. The miner's expenses are only for the purchase of the ASIC, but if the ASIC breaks, then you can lose money. Another problem is that such miners cannot use many ASICs.
What was the possibility of a person creating their own ASIC?

I remember that in 2013-2014, there was a project circulating here on the forum, with all the information needed to build an ASIC miner. There was information about chips to buy and how to program them. Unfortunately, I couldn't find this topic again. But I remember reading something about it.
Designing/making an ASIC mining chip itself? Zero. Making a ASIC-based miner - still being done today.

ASIC's are not 'programmed'. Their logic is hard coded as a fixed set of logic gates and com circuits etched into the silicon chips. The threads you reference were using chips that were designed and produced by companies with very deep pockets and it's the same today. Bitmain, microBt, Canaan, Inosilicon and Bitfury spend 10's of millions of $ for each new chip they release.

There are several threads here that carry on with the same idea of building miners but today using chips from Bitfury and Bitmain.
