203  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Testing my little math skills on Bitcoin halving formula on: May 28, 2024, 08:01:15 AM
The image you see below is not different from what hugeblack shared in his reply yesterday
...
Yes, it is slightly different from the one hugeblack shared:

In the end you arrive at the same result cause the 108 variable which appears twice cancels itself out. But using the first formula you can easily solve for the total supply. You also do not have to replace i with 1,2,3 and on, solving for each halving period, that invalidates the formula. Using it exactly as it is will give results for the entire 32 halvings we would have.

204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This transaction shows some of advantages when using Bitcoin blockchain on: May 28, 2024, 07:27:18 AM
I also would love it if there's more network that will automatically subtract your transaction fee even at the expense of the cryptocurrency that you're sending so there's no worry and hassle.
If you were to make a payment for let us say, a VPN subscription, which costs $15, you will need to calculate how much the fees would cost and add that on top of the $15 when sending to ensure the correct amount gets to the service and you can still be wrong with it. The sender should always have full control of the fees paid and include it into the transaction themselves.

20 people were supposed to win. In the next season, if you win and take the first place, I suggest that you change the rules 10 rounds before the end when you know more or less who won to change the pot only for the winner.
I do not see anywhere in what you shared that it was explicitly stated there would be 20 winners. Nothing was set in stone from the beginning, it was all dependent on how many players joined the pool at the end of the day:

The first place jackpot prize will be a guaranteed 0.1BTC and then the rest of the money will be split between 2nd-10th places. If we get 50 users signing up that will be a further 0.125 in the pot so there should be over 0.3 in total.
This suggests more that we should have expected 10 winners from the get go.

206  Other / Meta / Re: Is this forum getting worse and worse? on: May 27, 2024, 03:13:56 PM
You know the difference is, in the past, there was no signature campaign and people wrote short posts, funny ones and used forum like a chit chat place. They post naturally, did not post for money and it's different than spamming nowadays because of money incentives.
That is a good observation there. Could also be that without any motivation to post, only those with pure interest in Bitcoin communicated and that increased the general conversations we had here.

There were good posts then and there are now, but there is a lot of spam that almost drowns out the better discussions.

People are becoming more entrenched in their worldview.  There was a time, when presented with compelling evidence, reasonable people could change their mind.  But nowadays that's becoming an increasingly rare trait.  Now people just get defensive or hostile when presented with anything that contradicts their beliefs.  Populism frequently overrides truth and it's depressing.
I was thinking the other day of how we look at times past and named different eras by what was predominant during that time, what would we be known for in the next 200-300 years? The scientific era? I think not, posterity may not think us so smart and the future is always better so whatever they have then would look to them like what horses do to the current automobile system. And what would they think of our collective ideologies?

Back to the topic, the forum for me is the same as it has been since I joined. For earlier users who may have formed a very good bond with the great posters of that time, they will miss them more and that will give the impression that the quality has dropped here. Everything else will look repeated and tiring.

208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: May 27, 2024, 02:41:36 PM
Onana (and hey I've defended the guy in the past) and Antony don't deserve Europe, not at the expense of Palmer. Such is football. And now we have the full lineup of Premier League teams.
Smiley well, he did say they did not deserve their league finish some weeks back and they are only in that position, above Newcastle and United cause of luck, so United totally deserved Europa league football, and I honestly mean that last part.
They made City who just came off a very long win streak in the league and were almost flawless all through, look clueless. Erik ten Hag out-coached Pep on the day something very few coaches managed to do this season and beat Liverpool on the way to their FA cup victory. United deserved it, but no thanks to Onana and Anthony.

I totally agree that Palmer deserved a better finish after his performance this season, he is going places.

209  Economy / Speculation / Re: What happens when the big Bitcoin whales stops buying? on: May 27, 2024, 12:59:44 PM
...and when the big whales buys Bitcoin, it lends an assured sense of legitimacy to Bitcoin, provides liquidity to the market and  goes a long way to improve the overall market sentiment which will go on to influence bitcoins price positively.
Bitcoin already has every layer of legitimacy it needs from the network and that attracts all levels of investors. Whales buy in cause they already consider it legitimate.
All purchases are also anonymous, except for when a company buys and announces it, so no one is waiting around to see who buys to trust bitcoin. You do not even need to trust, just to verify.

The question is, what happens when they stop buying?
There is no select group that can impact the market. Bitcoin is the largest cryptocurrency which is traded in exchange for billions of USD every day.

210  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Cannot log into Binance account. Curious case. Binance Support Center -terrible! on: May 27, 2024, 12:43:38 PM
...no need to mention it's someone else's account just say it as yours and keep the KYC documents ready for verficiation.
If this user is messaging from a verified account, it will not be wise to say the user with the issue is him. Whatever documents the person with the issue provides will not match. Even if the op's account is not verified it will not still match any of their profile information. Not being a U.S citizen and contacting Binance US will just give the support guide the idea that it is an attempted scam.

Best option as Rikafip suggested is to guide your friend on what to do when contacting support, following through every step of the way. Be prepared to escalate on the platforms they have a good presence in if there is not positive result.

212  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: May 26, 2024, 01:15:45 PM
Maybe this has already been discussed here on the thread, but I cannot find it.

Can someone tell me why Laliga's matchweek 38 fixtures were not all played at the same time a is usual in very many leagues? Is it because almost everything to play for, like champions, UCL spots, other European places and the relegation battle, has been decided?

I miscalculated when the league ends cause last matchweek, all matches were played at the same time, but this final week we have matches on different days.

I haven't done anything ilegal, basically beating closing lines and profit of 10k seems to be all you can take them for. So yeah I am frustrated. I'm looking at alternative accounts so while I have the option I'm happy for everyone to rinse them for free.
An alternative account is against the rule of every casino, if you are a long term player you should know that. If you are willing to break their most obvious rules, then you probably did some prohibited practice leading to your ban. This is my best guess from this situation.

I will not trust someone who so casually breaks terms of service they agreed to and invites others to abuse the system and creates alt accounts.

In a scale of the big corporations which are interested in and can influence the outcome of elections and politics in general grayscale will be low ranked. Blackrock I expect does have some level of interest and influence, but that may not become obvious in determining the country should have a pro crypto President and if they can get what they want without it.

215  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which of these will miners priorities most - LN or RBF ? on: May 26, 2024, 05:37:36 AM
My Question:
1. Seeing that RBF will benefit miners more in the future, how will they respond to the use of LN by Bitcoin users?.
2. Do you think that the rate at which miners ignore certain tx due to low tx fees would increase in the future?.
3.Do you think that RBF will be generally used in the future?.
1a. RBF does not benefit miners more. When someone replaces a transaction that is commonly because the feerate at the time is higher than what they paid for the initial transaction and theirs will not be given priority. This means there are other transactions paying higher fee that would have gotten that priority. To miners it does not matter if you use RBF or a proper tx fee when making the initial transaction.
1b. LN is an off chain protocol, so miners cannot respond to it, unless when a channel is opened and closed. I expect they will treat it as every other transaction.

2. Low transaction fees is very relative. Miners do not ignore tx due to low fees, they take the highest ones. Priority fees now is 8 sat/vbyte which is low compared to what we have been experiencing, but it would be prioritized by miners. If that drops to 2 sats/vbyte it will still get priority over those that pay less.

3. Yes.

216  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 The Emirates FA Cup - Season 2023/2024 on: May 25, 2024, 05:49:02 PM
Manchester City looked to still be hung over from their title celebration, they did not perform anywhere near their usual standard today. Foden and Kevin were very, very poor. Doku was the only spark in the side for the few minutes he played.

The significance of this match is that:
- Manchester Utd obviously finish with a title and will be going to the Europa league next season along with Tottenham.
- Chelsea will be playing Conference league next season.
- Newcastle drop out of European football.
- Community shield will be contested between both Manchester clubs.
- Ten Hag has laid a huge claim to his managerial seat for next season.

Good thing you have gotten your account back and also good you have made a note to stake a signed address. That is the ultimate account recovery tool, it also validates changes in email address and password so no one would suspect that the ownership of an account has changed hands.

The only time we parked the bus, we won everything in Europe, so we're not the same.
I do not remember Conte or Mou (second spell) winning you anything in Europe and those were your peak "packing bus" era. You seem not to know your own history.

What's the point of playing wonderful football if you aren't going to win trophies? The league is ended, and no one remembers how brilliantly you played us this season, but I do recall raping your "Good ebening" team in Baku.  Grin
You mentioned something about elite mindset earlier this is bottom of the table mindset. It is one thing to change your style in one match like Arsenal and Madrid did this season, but to enter every match, even against bottom of the table side and defend the way Chelsea used to do, that was terrible.

Almost time for you to cheer Man City so you can at least get a Europa league spot.

219  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: May 25, 2024, 07:32:56 AM
Nice try but we don't celebrate mediocrity here. I saw you celebrating Kai Havertz scoring and celebrating against his former employer, saw you celebrating Ode holding up camera after scoring a goal, saw you celebrating parking the bus against Manchester city in your most crucial game of the season ( go and read Rodric statement on that).
I was not celebrating Kai scoring, I was taunting you who had talked down on him all season. Besides all fans cheer when their players score, that is part of the game

I did not celebrate Martin holding up a camera, it was just a wholesome moment. I rather criticized pundits who had an issue with such a beautiful moment with a long serving staff at the club

I did not celebrate a draw at Etihad, I took a decent point which was a good result at the time. Rodri whinges every-time a club does not play the way they do. He did it after the Madrid match too. There are different ways to play football, you support Chelsea that is renowned for packing the bus over the years, you should even be the last person talking about style of play, especially not to Arsenal that has always played a beautiful brand of football.

I'm curious to see what they show to the incoming players - the invincible trophy?
You do realize we have won MORE THAN DOUBLE the EPL trophies Chelsea has.

Elite clubs do not celebrate reaching the quarterfinals. We (Chelsea ) are the English team with the most CL semifinal appearances (eight), but you will never see our supporters or players discuss it.
You have been celebrating a league cup final for the past 2 months.

Wow, fan fights  Grin
It is just honest banter, sports' no fun without it  Wink
