201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How to get ordinals range on a given Bitcoin wallet address? on: March 04, 2024, 12:35:18 AM
It can be done by managing the ongoing observer, where you push data from your node to a database that works better with Ordinals, scan the blockchain by block height, push the BRC-20 inscription data to the new database and then create your own index.

Ordhook provides you with a tool to customize your database or use the Ordinals API

202  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Fake Sparrow Wallet app on the Apple app store on: March 04, 2024, 12:08:51 AM
--
They should check thoroughly all the apps that involve the financial markets / Wallet category as this is one category where we found a lot of phishing attempts too.

But what can I say if they do not remove the app after so many reports? Insider Job  Huh
I am not defending Apple Store policies here, but the description of the service, its violation of the terms of use, containing viruses or redirecting to phishing links is what makes them delete apps.
It is true that the name of this app is Sparrow wallet, but logo is different:

The size of the application is 3 MB and I assume that it is a single page asking the user to enter a wallet seed, there is no link to a phishing link, viruses, and AI scan that may lead to clean results.
Deleting this app would not be a priority for them if they did not receive many requests.

I believe the best way to make Apple notice is to announce it publicly in X, plus the community should also be as loud as possible through liking and reposting.

203  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Green Energy Subsidies on: March 02, 2024, 02:23:00 AM
Can we do more on the development side to subsidize miners running on green energy? How could this be implemented from a technical standpoint?

Without modifying the mining algorithm, not much can be done, and in the case of Bitcoin, it can either be made by making the cost of obtaining energy from renewable sources cheap, available, and with the same efficiency as sources that pollute the environment, or by imposing global legal legislation.

It does not mean that nothing can be done. From a technical standpoint, instead of focusing on Power, performance and area (PPA) as key metrics in evaluating and designing ASICs, improving energy efficiency may reduce Bitcoin's energy consumption while maintaining the same hashrate.

I believe that sometimes the harm caused by batteries, lithium mining, or electronic waste is much greater than the energy consumption.
204  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Mr.Charles Cryptocards on: March 02, 2024, 01:46:58 AM
Your prices are a little high. I can get some of these cards with a custom design for about $80.
payment methods didnot mentioned that you accept Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies.
mrcharles-cryptocards domain is newly registered and it may be difficult to trust this service.
I did not notice that there are unique card designs and I can get the same results from most services that offer these cards.
There is no privacy policy or no sharing of customer data with a third party.
205  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Seeking solutions to a 12 year old Electrum wallet mystery on: March 02, 2024, 01:25:52 AM

So, here are the facts - In late 2011 to January 2012 I was running an offline version of Electrum using a thumbdrive with the blockchain on it. (Yeah, back then the blockchain was that small!)

When I ran the wallet.dat data through it, Electrum generated a 12 word seed that uses the BIP 39 list. I also derived an xpub and verified funds. The xpub is on a disk as a string of text...somewhere.

You have already created two topics, there is no need to create a new topic.

wallet.dat is not used in Electrum Wallet.
In 2011 and 2012, Electrum did not use BIP39 because it was agreed upon as a standard of generating mnemonic sentences in 2013. Before that date, Electrum was using mnemonic codes from a 1626 word dictionary, so you need to modify the BTCrecover to the words dictionary and not the BIP39 word list.

The new Electrum client uses mnemonic codes to represent random wallet seeds.
A seed is encoded with 12 words from a 1626 words dictionary.
If you lose your wallet, these 12 words are the only thing you need in order to recover it.

206  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Where do large mining companies send old ASICs? on: March 01, 2024, 02:03:21 AM
In some hospitals and big companies with lots of equipment in use, when there are new machines or when machine and equipment have been used for so long the company can decide to retire these machines, and how do they do this? they pack up these machines and keep them in a conducive store room.
I do not think that this is what happens to mining devices or any old ASICs because they are limited to use for one purpose, so storing them means that their value will decrease. These companies will sell and replace any ASICs if they do not generate profits, so selling them at a cheaper price to a party that may have cheaper electricity and will want to buy them would be better than store it for a year or two and then they may not be able to sell it and have to pay additional costs to dispose of it.

In Russia, I know telegram channels where you can buy any ASIC from old S9 to new ones, and these ASICs are bought by those who have practically free electricity.
Although I wouldn’t even use S9 ASICs even now even if I had free electricity.

Not only Russia, but in some seasons of the year, such as the flood season, electricity may be much cheaper, but it is rare to find someone who buys it in large quantities.
207  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum connecting to a "risky destination" on: March 01, 2024, 01:32:23 AM
I assume that your problem is connecting to this server or a similar server.

Code:
electrum.diynodes.com

It was reported a few days ago due to not configure SSL certificate (Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN) or a similar error, so the antivirus gives an error like "risky destination."

The solution is simple, which is to change your electrum server. Switch to the overview tab, will find an option to choose the server automatically, remove this option and search for a random server, connecting using it and check antivirus log until this error stops.

Make sure that you are using the original Electrum and make sure you update it always.

You do not go to the fake URL and so no problem. Just download or update electrum only from the official website. https://electrum.org/
It is not a problem related to downloading an unofficial wallet, but rather connecting to the Electrum server. In this case, the antivirus acted as a firewall.
208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Generate Bitcoin address from Ethereum address via Metamask on: February 29, 2024, 02:37:48 AM

209  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do you make money on transactions with a node? on: February 29, 2024, 02:01:23 AM
I saw somewhere this was possible with a lightning node.
It depends on variable factors related to the economics of scale. If you run 10 BTC nodes, with low dedicated server costs, a large number of channels, and you are lucky that onchain fees for opening/closing channels are low, then profits are possible.

Routing fee is usually very low (about 0.05%) and you have relatively high operational costs. Therefore, it is not easy to make profits from routing mall channels such as 1,000,000 sats but it may be possible with 20 BTC, low operational cost and onchain fees may wipe out all your profits so it is economies of scale and a little luck or to monitor the memepool.
210  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Fake Sparrow Wallet app on the Apple app store on: February 29, 2024, 01:22:00 AM
I only wonder how Apple employees   let pass this app unchallenged.
If that app is as simple as one image containing “Enter your wallet seeds please,” it will most likely pass most of AI security check, and with 3MB size and the developer listed it as Front-end app, it will pass. The question remains as to why they did not remove it after all reports. I assume they received a lot of them during the last two months.
211  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New means of installing spywares on your devices on: February 28, 2024, 02:27:13 AM
I have seen a victim of this evil act, the lady was claiming that she didn't give anybody her seed phrases or private keys, but her coins were wiped out twice. I immediately reinstalled the operating system, created a new wallet for her and enlightened her of these dangers as well as the precautions to take regarding the safety of her wallet and I've not heard such complaints for almost four months now.
Here you are confusing spywares, which fall under passive attacks, where the purpose of these malwares is to track and record your data, and thus they tend to remain silent, and active attacks, which include trying to find out your private key to access your coins, and then you will truly know that there is something strange happens.

In the case of spywares, because everyone is spying, it is difficult to keep your data safe, as the antivirus may work as spyware. You need to use an open source OS, do not download any unknown apps, reduce GUI, start learning to use your device using the CLI, and monitor network activity, as any network activity Or Internet consumption is an indicator of spywares.
212  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [WARNING] Fake Sparrow Wallet app on the Apple app store on: February 28, 2024, 02:07:28 AM
App Store is getting worse, This scam app was reported by craigraw over two months ago and yet it has not been taken down.

https://twitter.com/craigraw/status/1743573811230863813

I also have a little question; is it possible that since he installed it already that there could be malwares monitoring his phone?

You never can tell because a fake app downloaded is prune to install malware into your device, it could not be the aim of this particular fake app developer maybe they wanted to trick the victims into sending bitcoin to fake address but still I will advice a formatting of that device and if possible sweep the coins you have on that particular wallet.
App size is about 3 MB, so I do not think there is malware that could come with it, but you should not download it.

I tracked down the developer mentioned below, Gohar Khan, and got his LinkedIn profile. He identifies himself as Web Front-end Developer (UI Designer), and based on the size of that app, I assume it stores the wallet seed after you enter it.

213  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent BTC to old address of Electrum wallet app, doesnt sync but is online on: February 28, 2024, 01:24:33 AM
The Bitcoin address that corresponds to your wallet screenshot https://ibb.co/k6ZTT9m is https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/address/bc1q2j57033ectjhc5aclq9w6qtezyqqpdfr9kqh9k and you have not used that address since
Dec 29.
Can you tell us which service you used to withdraw? Return to the service and search for that address in the white list addresses. Do they contain bc1q2j57033ectjhc5aclq9w6qtezyqqpdfr9kqh9k? If they do not contain, contact the support team to ensure that no third party has accessed the account.

Regarding receiving address, search for bc1q9eyqmvqn9qxedza7sxx6v3tjkk8xjqr7lf7gns in other wallets that you have, if you do not find it, it most likely does not belong to you.
214  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: UniSat Wallet - User Experiences on: February 28, 2024, 01:10:21 AM
As I had thought, I was surprised by the fact that the addresses are called accounts at UniSat, in addition, Unisat does not add up the address balances, which leads me to believe that when sending, it can only spend on outputs from one address (account) just...

From a cryptographic standpoint, both Bitcoin and Ethereum use the same elliptic curve SECP256K1. But instead of following the usual approach in BIP wallets, you use one master key, and through this master key you can generate both Bitcoin addresses and the Ethereum address, and then the Ethereum address can be used in both (EOAs) and contracts.

The same thing can be done with BIP44wallet but by changing the path to m/44'/60'/0'/0

The word accounts is not common in Bitcoin wallets versus HD wallet, and almost the same principle is done in trust wallet, but from a cryptographic, as long as the private key is generated with sufficient random entropy, you are safe and you can create many accounts if you want more than one address and since it is an extension wallet, it is best to use it for NFTs, ordinals only.

215  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent BTC to old address of Electrum wallet app, doesnt sync but is online on: February 27, 2024, 02:40:48 AM

I am on the mobile app. How do I open the console and enter those commands? The transaction id for the payment to my wallet was 0a11177e7aa80e8729b6c1f31a90a7449a8b6ac06c4cf537e66d1f4b2a3ad265 and the previous transaction id of the last 2 month old successful payment was fea2cb06bdef0d15f710e2130d5938deb1176829a5375625a14b51861f108128 and these were both sent to the same address but I cant see the address to which my last payment was, but I can see the amount which I can check the address of, from the site that sent the payment so they should be the same (ending in gns)

OLD TX: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/fea2cb06bdef0d15f710e2130d5938deb1176829a5375625a14b51861f108128
New TX: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/0a11177e7aa80e8729b6c1f31a90a7449a8b6ac06c4cf537e66d1f4b2a3ad265

Since you did not mention your Bitcoin address, I assume that it is one of the OLD TX addresses. I have tried all the addresses and unfortunately none of them appear in the new transaction, or in other words, you did not copy your old address.

Is the clipboard virus on mobile?
Yes, Copy any Bitcoin address and paste it anywhere. Did the address you copied change? If it changes, it is clipboard virus.
Did you update Electrum or download it from an unknown source?
Have you downloaded an app or game in the past two months?
216  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live customisation, firmware update before Ledger Recover on: February 27, 2024, 02:02:50 AM
Are here anyone who already done the research and have successfully downgraded / made previous update of ledger firmware?
I would happy to receive any tech information that you can share here. Wait for further comments.

ledger firmware = old firmware + Fix for some errors + New updates.
The firmware is built to be compatible with previous versions, so downgrad will not solve any problem. If there are problems with the update, contact Ledger to release the new firmware.

If you are not satisfied with the new updates, do not update the firmware, but over time you will find yourself forced, especially if the update is to fix software vulnerabilities. If you are not like the new updates, then buy a new hardware wallet.

Downgrad was possible in the past however it caused battery issues, wallet keeps freezing but according to Ledger_Support the firmware can't be downgraded to an older version.

217  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Sent BTC to old address of Electrum wallet app, doesnt sync but is online on: February 27, 2024, 01:37:19 AM
1) search for that address in the block explorer, Has the transaction been confirmed? you can find the TX ID in the withdrawal list of that site/crypto exchange.
2) Make sure your wallet is synced (green button below)
3) Open console and type ismine("THAT ADDRESS HERE")

If you do not get true, it is most likely due to the Clipboard virus.
Copy any Bitcoin address from your wallet and paste it. If there is a change in the address, format your device.
218  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Phoenix 2.2.0 released on: February 27, 2024, 01:28:55 AM
you have up to 27% lower onchain transaction fees when opening the channel
This is due to Taproot and the 27% reduction is for transactions containing 3 inputs and could be more based on the number of inputs.
https://bitcoinops.org/en/tools/calc-size/

Their use of miniscript descriptors and script-path spending demonstrates how Taproot can be used to improve privacy instead of spamming.
219  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FixedFloat has been hacked (26M $) on: February 27, 2024, 01:08:14 AM
https://fixedfloat.com service is partially back, trading pairs such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Monero are still temporarily suspended, only a few tokens besides LTC are allowed.

February 27, 2024

Their description of the hack indicates that the security structure allowed hackers to access the basic functions of the service. It is a complete failure and appears to be access to cold storage
--
--

I did not find an official statement from them. I read some articles that talked about the reason and it seemed, as I mentioned, a complete failure of the system, as one of the articles mentioned that private key exploit.

On-chain Details show that the attack lasted for more than two hours. The hackers emptied their ETH balance first, and then after an hour, the same thing was repeated for Bitcoin, for more than half an hour. In both cases, the damage could have been mitigated, as the Bitcoin wallets were emptied after more than an hour from the suspicious movement of ETH wallets.

FixedFloat Exploit
220  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: UniSat Wallet - User Experiences on: February 27, 2024, 12:47:00 AM
I had never heard of it before, so I decided to try it. It appears from the code that it was built on the MetaMask wallet, as it is a light version that scans the memepool looking for ordinals, and then you can send or receive an inscribing transaction.

release-notes suggest continuous development.

The private key is generated on the client side and with good entropy, it is completely secure, just like in MetaMask, but I don't like the concept of accounts where you will have one private key (a single address for each account).
https://github.com/unisat-wallet/extension/blob/master/src/ui/pages/Account/CreateSimpleWalletScreen.tsx

In short, it is good if you want to try inspection bitcoin, copy your private key and keep it.

The bad aspects of the wallet are related to privacy, as your IP address may be recorded, they may use your cookies, local storage, Google Analytics, IPs for commercial purposes or exchange your data with a third party, so be careful and use it in an open source system or with VM machines.
