there is no trade  BTC       c-cex.com DELISTING  Sad
Hmm. There has been a serious dump recently. Therefore the volume (in BTC) is very low.

It's a good time to buy SMLY :-)

More seriously, we clearly need more volume...

Places without much infrastructure are the best places to make some!  projects are available to do this..  I wonder how much room in your suitcase it would take to pack enough tech to supply the internet for a village or two?
Well, one can do quite a bit with just a 3G dongle (which is a part of our system) and by adding an antenna. If the antenna is enough, then the school gets both Internet and WiFi. We just leave it open along with info on the phone number on the sim card. If people want to use it for general Internet access then they may need to purchase top-ups (we don't really have general funds for that - just research funds which can top up for uploading data). That's quite a cheap way to maintain an open hotspot in one location.

You can find the Takawiri example here:
https://steemit.com/kenya/@gstefans/takawiri-island-primary-school-with-education-in-a-suitcase

Although we got this to work here, we are definitely no experts on boosting 3G signals :-)

A lot of people have done this kind of thing (for entire villages) and some of them really know what they are doing. They have typically gone into a remote village and taught someone how to set up these connections from scratch. That way they leave everything needed to maintain these connections.

Some of these places do have some 3G access, at least in spots, so people who have smartphones can get onto the Internet even though our system can not get a signal in the location where we need to set it up. There is no single simple cheap solution here and we're just trying to inch our way forward in each case.

At Maseno University it is quite feasible to leave the EIAS server locked up but running a hotspot through the dongle. That gives students Wikipedia and tutor-web off the server and Internet access for more general issues.

I liked your project. It differs from the usual scheme - you have a worthy goal. How scalable is your system? As I understood from the description, only Kenya. Am I right?
Thank you.

Yes, so far Education in a Suitcase has only been able to go to Kenya. We had planned to change that if we got the grant mentioned above, but although we got the grant, the funders insist we stick to Kenya for now. So we will be able to go back to Kenya in 2018 with more tablets and servers but probably not to further expand.

Our main problem in Kenya with regard to SMLY has been logistics: If there is no Internet then it's hard to sync the blockchain(!). Of course that's not a problem in the cities but EIAS has mostly been in pretty remote places. This may change in 2018 as we add new locations. We shall see: We'll need to refine our schedules and so forth once we finalise everything with our sponsors. We managed to hook one of the locations up to the Internet while we were there last time, but that hasn't stayed up. Since we knew it would be unstable we didn't emphasise the SMLY. It should be possible in 1-2 places to find actual SMLY uses (good-will from local shop/restaurant owners) but we need to make sure it is stable before we teach this to the teenagers and leave them with it.

For SMLY, if you look up geolocation in  https://chainz.cryptoid.info/smly/#!network then you'll see where the explorer seems to see most of the activity -- being in the US, Russia, Hungary Iceland. We need to change things so Africa makes it onto this map!

Hi. why there is no connection to the pool? http://smly.hashlink.eu Give a link to any working pool please
There is no pool. People are just solo mining and so far there is no problem with that.
205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SMLY- smileycoin - for rewards in education on: September 28, 2017, 10:41:21 PM
Recall that the SMLY premine is used for student rewards inside the open and freely accessible tutor-web educational system. The intent is to reward students for studying. Of course nobody is worried about the occasional user taking calculus and deciding to do some high school math as well. After all, some calculus students need to catch up by taking the high school math. So we deliberately do not worry too much about students getting somewhat higher SMLY rewards than that corresponding to their formal course. It has also always been the intention that a Calcutta street kid would be permitted to log in, practise and get SMYL rewards for performance.

Recently the tutor-web system has been subject to considerable systematic abuse, seen by the same person using multiple email accounts. In a few cases people have stopped when confronted but eventually it has gotten to the stage where we now have to distinguish between  real students and others. "Real" students are those registered at a school officially working with the tutor-web and using their schools' email addresses, thus registered into a tutor-web "class". Students not at a school can personally apply to be accepted into a class, but will have to provide a detailed proof of identity to an actual person at the other end.

"Real" students will be treated as such and will receive rewards as originally intended. For other students the tutor-web will remain open but to abusers the reward system will behave like a typical crypto faucet, making it easy to earn a few SMLY by clicking on answers that you know, but it will take considerable time to earn a dollar.

The student rewards will increase considerably since they are no longer affected by abusers self-registering for the same courses.

There is no problem with having the tutor-web act like a faucet: The trickle will be minor (a few hundred/thousand SMLY per day) compared to the target SMLY rewards for students (annual target=the same as the annual coinbase) and this will be good advertising... The faucet parameters will be tuned over time.

For more information see https://tutor-web.info/information/students

As always, comments are welcome.

You'll recall the two sister projects to Smileycoin: the tutor-web educational system and the Education in a Suitcase non-profit. The latter just got a grant to continue working on their educational project in Kenya. The project includes distributing servers with the tutor-web system (and more) as well as donating tablets to students. Naturally, the tutor-web in Kenya uses the SMLY as rewards, as does the Internet server at https://tutor-web.net (the point is that the locations in Kenya do not have general Internet access).

From the twitter announcement (https://twitter.com/EducationCase/status/911897562751340545):  Time for a pat on the back: We just got a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs! This  doubles our activities in Kenya in 2018.

For more info follow their Twitter feed, @EducationCase, or their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/education.in.a.suitcase/

Between after school token and smiley which of the token has the workable idea. When token are issue they come with the best ideas on Paper. Is it the same scenario playing out here?

You'll find some info on the opening page of this thread.

Check out the tutor-web home page (https://tutor-web.info/smileycoin/). The SMLY is used as a currency within the open and freely accessible tutor-web educational system. Students earn SMLY by studying.  This has been used by thousands of students already so it is certainly "workable"  Smiley

The goal is to get put this whole thing to use in places like Kenya, where a lot of families live off $1/day. It should not take many SMLY to make it worth while for students to study!

This is being driven forward by a non-profit, Education in a Suitcase, which you can find both on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/education.in.a.suitcase/) and twitter (https://twitter.com/educationCase/). EIAS has already put the tutor-web into the hands of a lot of students in Kenya. They can earn SMLY but technical issues are likely to prevent them from fully using it so far, mostly because we've been working in areas without any kind of Internet connection. Once we move into areas with some (poor) Internet, the SMLY will come more into play.

Is there any active pools?
Not that I know of - our team ran into problems so we needed to put them on hold.

We only intended them as a temporary measure anyway - and found we didn't really need them since there are so many algorithms supported now.

The usual pools may not be very interested in supporting SMLY since they will likely have to change the pool software to allow the handling of the coinbase.

Hi dev . We should have a slack or discord channel. to create a SMLY community.
Bitcointalk very well, but I see the best slack.
This is fine by me. Any volunteers?

BTW the reason why this forum (&twitter) has been enough is that we have put an emphasis on everything being very open...so far there has been no need to discuss major issues in closed fora.

One case where we would want to use a closed forum is if we decide we want to develop a technology to gain a competitive advantage over other coins.

This coin is dead, please let me know.

Dev, you are here
The coin explorer shows a supply of blocks and the coin is on two exchanges.

Please explain how this coin is dead...

I am amazed this SMYL was still on cex because i bought some of it before 2015 and it is only for 1 sats and now its going to 3 and as previous it reach up to 139satoshi. How sad not knowing that pump.
Anyway its not dead and i think i need to buy again . Do it have any updates or developments this coming year end?

beware of this coin.
Dev seems to have disappeared

Oh, come on. Where am I supposed to have disappeared to?

 Smiley

Oh. It is good to know that dev is still here.

Dev. We will have new upcoming updates?
If you've followed this thread you will know that the coin has been completely changed during the summer. You will recall that this work culminated in a hard fork in August.

This is the time to collect responses and ideas for the next set of changes -- and this forum is the place to discuss the ideas.

We want to keep adding features but we don't want hard forks every month :-)

Hi dev.

We have a slack channel or discord or telegram channel ?
We've just been using bitcointalk (this thread) for discussions and twitter etc for announcements.

pool?
Most people seem to be solo mining.

Does anyone have a working p2pool? There are some problems remaining with the versions our group tested. If anyone wants to try, please do!!

I could setup a UNOMP POOL for SMLY if anyone is interested.

Crypt
Definitely interested :-)

My guess is that the main thing to verify is that SMLY's 3-way handling of the coinbase doesn't conflict with fixed settings in the pool.

Well done guys, now still the other exchangers Wink.
The only one left, which we was live before, was cryptopia.

If you want them to listen to us, you need to help by contacting them and asking to continue the SMLY ... we have offered to help them out but their developers have not responded yet.

cryptopia has discussed SMLY internally and their chief developer has decided not to reopen for SMLY trading, even though we suggested compensation for any SMLY they may have lost.

lose money because send coin smiley from nova to ccex hahaha wtf
FIX WALLET ccex please
i dont want lose my money
See above: SMLY at c-cex is fine.

This is not true. Despite the fact that they have the current block corresponding to the number of the last block in the network, they have not credited coins to my account for this transaction -

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/smly/tx.dws?1f3da7edbca368cb6ca2f8eafaf6d4b1badc52a1795693bbb611e9a3334cfa8c.htm

=(
I'm not privy to ccex internals. You should contact support.

EDIT: You're right in that the wallet is listed as in maintenance. I have no idea why that is or whether that is the reason why deposits are not shown.
