201  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: December 29, 2021, 01:40:14 PM
Plus Chain Anals’ tracking of Lightning transactions actually helps increase the liquidity in the network and helps it scale, and makes it function better. Cool
Just like scammers and governments support the Tor network by running their own compromised nodes Wink As long as enough scammers and competing governments join, and as long as users are aware of the risks, none of this stops the network.

Agreed. Thought I'd add the following article showing the dimensions in which these TLAs are operating:

Since at least 2017, a mysterious threat actor has run thousands of malicious servers in entry, middle, and exit positions of the Tor network in what a security researcher has described as an attempt to deanonymize Tor users. The Record reports:
Tracked as KAX17, the threat actor ran at its peak more than 900 malicious servers part of the Tor network, which typically tends to hover around a daily total of up to 9,000-10,000.
...

TL;DR: You are not as anonymous and private on tor as you might think hope.

An admission by the NYT no less, then the damage to the immune system by multiple jabs must be even worse than they are letting on.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have client 3.01, but it seems none of the exchanges receives my deposits. Is there a newer client/wallet available?

On to your Q: The vaccine I got was from BIONTECH MANUFACTURING GMBH, GERMANY.

I'm sure they've received tons of lawsuits, as have most, if not all, big companies in the world, pharma or otherwise. It comes with the territory. When you're big, you'll be sued, and rightly so, in many cases, and that's that.

I also very much want to sue Micro$oft for the torture they're putting me through every day, by being forced to use their OS. The thing is, the s/w I'm using at work is the best in the world in its class, but only runs on Windows. I don't have a choice, as I value the quality of my designs infinitely more than tolerating and using the products of evil M$.

Don't you know that the contracts that governments signed to get the wonderjabs (which are to be kept secret forever, which is part of the contracts) grant the companies immunity from any sueing? Only the government can be sued and i.e. our government limited damages to what equals ~$75k.

Do not compare that to an Aspirin where you can sue Bayer if you get harmed by it.

Yes, I've heard of that. Luckily I'm not planning on suing any pharma company, for now at least.

On a related note, when my mother had to have a hip surgery, as a legal guardian, due to her age, I had to sign a document mentioning that there was a 1/4 chance of death and if she died, the surgeon and hospital would bear no responsibility. This is standard procedure, otherwise they wouldn't operate. Two choices: 1. Let my mum stay crippled in bed forever. 2. Sign the document and let the doctors operate. I chose (2). Operation was successful.

I have no intention to sue my car manufacturer too right now, but I know it keeps him from gross negligence when he knows I "could* sue him if my brakes just suddenly stopped doing their job.

Yes, that's true for any surgery BUT if they totally fuck up you can still sue them contrary to the vaccines.
Still the comparison is totally off, it would be a good comparison if you signed a blank sheet for your mothers surgery and they could fill in later whatever they want and never show you and the (secret) contents would supersede any law in your country. Then the situation is comparable to the vaccination contracts and the individual having these vaccines administered.
The same is btw valid for the prices to be paid per dose, totally secret. Then know that these plants producing the experimental drugs have been mainly built from government moneys, no big investments there from them, just taking profits.

I trust my family MD. He has been examining me, and directing my health plans and actions for years. He is young, aggressive, and follows 'new stuff'.  I was initially reluctant, because most vaccines take decades to develop. He said to do it, so I did.

There are a lot of things that I know more about than my doctor. Medicine/disease/vaccines is not one of them, so I trust what he says.

I trust my banker, he has been doing all our families money business for decades. He is older, very smart and studied economics (<- science angle). Since he helped me transfer fiat to kraken, he knew I have some bitcoin. He called me today and recommended to sell this internet fantasy money, the bubble will pop he said.

I didn't.

Just got word from mom 'n pop, they both were due for boostering (late 70s both) and were initially vaccinated with Moderna early May this year. Now both their docs urged them to have the booster, both meanwhile - let's say - got some questions about the whole "just vaccinate when asked to to end the pandemic".
Both insisted on a measurement of their antibody levels before taking another shot.

Pop got 190, while mom got 390!

I don't know what the values mean, but to put them in perspective you need 28 to get a certificate as recovered from Covid or sufficiently vaccinated/protected, below 16 is dangerous they say.

Funny enough, doctors told them "just booster and you be good, the test is totally unnecessary and you have to pay it yourself" (vaxing is paid fully by gubbermint).

France won't allow British tourists in regardless of vaccination status.

So what was the point of vaccination (beyond helping people's risk of symptoms of covid)?

Are they saying it does not stop the spread then regardless?

why only brits? shouldnt they ban tourists from all other countries then?
After 100's of years kicking their arses the French politicians really don't like us British it's just the way it is

To paraphrase Monty Pythons Holy Grail, the French probably just farted in your general direction and told you that your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.

Though I hear if you answer a question about swallows tropical nut transportation capabilities right, you're still allowed in.

My doc once told me to use 50-100cm of very thick electric cables (like the ones that run into a house) instead of a baseball bat. He said the bat slips down the bone and doesn't crack it, while the installation cable winds around bones and makes sure they crack nicely (also seems to hurt a bit more). Trusting my doc on this and got myself some fat cables from my electrician friend Grin

OMG I guess you're called psycodad for a reason...

My inquiring mind now torments itself about the question if it is because I seek to break bones of a criminal burglar looking to steel my valuables or if it is because I see a doctor that also gives unconvential security advice in the first place ??

Actually, I am named after Alfred Bundys western hero, though it comes from a time when logins were restricted to 8 chars, hence the omission of the grammatically correct ch.

I know this is a BTC area and I am not a big DOGE fan as a buyer or seller of it.

But it is still viable to mine and convert to cash and BTC

I totally agree with you, I mine it too and currently sell every block the same day I hit it. I still value a DOGE block below $100 personally, everything above I get is a *must sell* for me.
But it still deeply disturbs me when this crap goes up 20% while BTC goes sideways. There were times when hitting an LTC block gave you less in LTC (with much higher diff) than you got from the merged DOGE block you certainly popped too as the diff was always lower.

It just means we need some posterboy like Musk for BTC for the deserved appreciation.

And never mind, it is totally BTC-related as it is about how much corn one gets for dumping this shit on some hip millenials with obviously way too much money at their hands.

Somehow I got into the wrong movie today, I wanted actually to watch "Honeybadger goes to moon" but I ended up in some third class drama called "Bipolar clown pumps doggie meme shit".

Remind me again, when is the last Doge mined?
What, never? Huh, and people buy this crap at 20 cents. Makes you really wonder about the level of insanity in this world.

Oh, okay I see, it is because Doge is totally green et al while bitcoin is running on coal and diesel... makes sense.

About these purple "no trespassing" markings, can't this be used by someone to get away with murder? You drag someone inside the fence, you shoot him dead, and then claim he was trespassing and did not respond to verbal warnings and warning shots. How would the authorities in the relevant USA territories deal with this?

In contrast to the above, in many (most?) countries in the world, you will be put to prison if you shoot a burglar when he is inside your house, even if you legally carry a weapon. Even more surprising is the fact that, in the UK, police officers are not normally allowed to carry firearms (IIRC -- UK WOers, please confirm if that's the case).

I think somebody posted that this doesn't give you the right to shoot the intruder but you are allowed to use force to hold him and hand him over to LE.

In our country it's much worse, you may not touch the guy that is standing beside your bed with your money in his hands when you wake up. People here are joking that best you can do is offering him a sandwich and a coffee while he awaits with you the arrival of LE. Though they sometimes have unfortunate accidents on stairs while they wait with you for the coppers...

My doc once told me to use 50-100cm of very thick electric cables (like the ones that run into a house) instead of a baseball bat. He said the bat slips down the bone and doesn't crack it, while the installation cable winds around bones and makes sure they crack nicely (also seems to hurt a bit more). In other news Swiss minister and former federal presidents number was sold on the darknet because he bought a ledger:

Swiss federal councilor Alain Berset was the victim of a data breach that made his address, private email and home phone number public after a company he used to buy cryptocurrency was hacked, Swiss newspaper Le Matin Dimanche reported.

French tech firm Ledger SAS, which offers services including the purchase, storage and security of cryptocurrencies, suffered a cyberattack in June 2020 and Berset was among the customers whose data was compromised, the newspaper said.

...

Funny enough he is in the social democratic party, you know the ones that keep repeating how BTC is destroying the environment and is only good for illicit uses like kiddie fiddling, money laundering and drug trafficking.

Next time please hack into his trading account and tell us how many MRNA or PFIZER stocks he holds as minister for public health.

No, I don't think so. You downloaded binaries for arm64 but possibly are running a 32bit ARM platform. The error you get suggests sth like that.

You'll need to find out which release you need exactly for the RPI you have at hand. Or tell us which RPI model you exactly have so we might help.

Great, thanks. So you would need an ARMv7 release/binaries.

You might want to try this one:

Let us know if that works better.

Sensors picking corn CCMF action coming soon to a chart near you!

Thank you, proudhon.

BTW, there are several WOers that I'd like to meet IRL. You can hate me for this, but proudhon is one of them.

It'd be fun to meet up. Maybe at the next $10,000 bitcoin party?

Sure when 0.01 btc = 10k

I will fly to England for a meet up.

Hell I may do it if

0.1 btc = 10k

Nah, proudhon actually means 10 milions per btc, it just his Dyscalculia when he writes "10,000".

I for one look forward to meet permabull and best bullish-signal-ever-when-posting proudhon at 10m.

See you soon!

It looks like the coil connections show these burning/heat traces, that should not be as bad as when the conducting contacts look like that (when like this relay the pole/throw contact is rated at 30A@230V).

I'd put money those are the conducting contacts. The empty parallel set are for a double pole or possibly double throw setup.

Bah, smartass.  Wink  (Seriously, good find)
Good that I zoomed the picture before I accepted the bet  Grin

You are right, A1 and A2 can be seen which are the coil contacts. On the plus side the controller will probably be fine, but on the negative side the heating element is eventually sinking way too much current and I would be a bit more concerned especially if no fuse blew.

218  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2021, 03:48:41 PM

It's actually an electric furnace which heats water supplied to wet radiators (with hot water coming from a completely different electric immersion heater) - there is no gas in my rural location. It was installed many years before I bought the house and there seem to be hardly any of them around. I think it probably dates back to the early 1990s. There has been some kind of electrical overloading which has fried at least one, maybe all three, of the internal relays. There's also no guarantee that the element itself hasn't gone too. The manufacturer no longer exists and a search online for known spare part numbers has proved fruitless. So I could spend ages trying to source spare parts; and/or pay 100s for a call-out and repair fee with no guarantee of success; or buy an equivalent modern replacement furnace.

This is the kind of thing where parts continue to be available forever and they are often interchangeable (standard) so it's probably worth to keep investigating a bit more. It just depends which of the bits are broken. When you say relay, do you mean thermostat? Or is it part of the pumping system?

I've now found that the three relays are indeed fried, along with some associated wiring, but I've now taken one of the relays out so I can see exactly what type it is:

image loading...

And you're absolutely right Richy, they seem to very standard and still available, such as https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/non-latching-relays/2452087. So, I'm off to get three of them.....

I wish I knew more about electrical stuff. And lots of other things....

It looks like the coil connections show these burning/heat traces, that should not be as bad as when the conducting contacts look like that (when like this relay the pole/throw contact is rated at 30A@230V). That can happen when the coil gets too much voltage and the insulation between the coil wires burns out, hence reducing resistance and overheating until it's no more a coil but only a short with thin wires.
Though the negative side is, that power probably comes from a controller somewhere that decides when to power the furnace/heating element. It could well be that the controller itself setting those relays is damaged as well.

I assume your fuse blew from the incident when the relay burnt out like that, otherwise I would probably try to consult a professional electrician, if you just replace the relays then, things could go wrong in a much more bad way the second time, because burning wires in walls can really ruin your whole day.

Ofcourse thicker wires are always a good idea, though generally if the wiring is not too old and the fuse blew when the relay burnt out, the wiring should have enough spare capacity to not get damaged in any way. I agree with MoA here, if the wiring is not pre WWWII and the electrician who installed it is not a criminal twat and the fuse actually blew then there is no reason at all to be concerned about the wiring (at least not more than any other day).

And yeah, if you are not feeling confident changing the relays and switching the thing back on (meaning having an explanation on what went wrong in the first place), get the help of an electrician. With 230V or higher you often get only one single time to fuck things seriously up,
If you decide to go ahead anyway, do not just switch off the fuse that you think powers the furnace, measure that things have no more voltage before sticking your fingers in it. I mean it, a wrongly labelled fuse can kill you if you don't check. (i.e. Don't trust, verify!)

I have found in my life that I am pretty good in tolerating electric shocks but I got plenty of lucky occasions where some godness decided to warn me with flying sparks that I am about to touch a deadly powered contact, wire or whatever.

Be careful and good luck!

This dip is too small to be recognized as a 'crash'. At the local bottom of 55850$ it is only 18.8% below the last ATH. The bulls are still aiming at 100K and they are stealing with a huge discount from the weak hands (again  Grin). Happy Black Friday to all that have fiat to buy the dip! There is no question that 100K can be reached in a few weeks when the whales decide to do it. Although the path looks longer starting with 56K compared to 69K, all those hundreds of thousands bitcoins sold now, won't block the way to 100K. I wasn't optimistic about PlanB predicitons, but now with this volume and oversold RSI's, the chance of getting 100K before 2022 has increased significantly.

For bitcoin, upside momentum continues to slow on the daily price chart, suggesting continued profit-taking among buyers. And the relative strength index (RSI) on the daily chart is not yet oversold, which provides scope for further downside in BTC over the short-term.

The 100-day moving average, currently around $53,000, could attract buyers similar to late September, which preceded a price recovery.

For now, intraday charts appear deeply oversold. This means buyers could defend immediate support around $56,000, albeit briefly given strong overhead resistance on the charts.

CD

Please be careful posting full identical sentences from i.e. Coindesk as if they were your own statements, it's called plagiarism and highly frowned upon around here:

Thanks for that glimpse into our short-term future (speaking as citizen of your similar-sized, cheesy neighbour country), I guess things will go down a very similar path in the next days and weeks here (I guess we're between 10-15 days lagging behind). Though we have a public vote about a bunch of anti-Corona measures on 18th 28th and the government won't act until 19th 29th to not endanger that vote.

I found the herd-immunity by vaccinated percentage thing very amazing and actually very clever in an evil way, as it allows basically the gubbermint to adjust the numbers continously higher (arguing with new and more contagious variants) while keeping pointing fingers at the unvaccinated as culprits that the pandemic didn't end yet. We use to joke about 102.5% vaccinated needed in 2022 to end the pandemic.
They just shift the numbers higher and higher and have an easy scapegoat to blame why it didn't work and they will never get into the position to answer for their measures (just shift the percentage needed for herd-immunity 5 points higher and you're good, the higher you go the more unlikely it will ever be reached).

Current situation here is, they do literally and figuratively everything to force motivate unvaccinated people to vaccinate while the vulnerable elderly population wanting the booster very hard is denied access to it. I read this as "we are still growing the initial user base for the product", otherwise it just doesn't make sense.

Hospitals here are meanwhile well filled with vaccinated people severely sick on Covid, last 2 weeks death rate from/with Covid have gone about 50/50 vaccinated/unvaccinated.

I still believe one of the key factors of not getting severely ill or worse from it is the initial viral load you get, I therefor found that hint for Algovir very helpful and ordered a few bottles of it. Thanks for that information.

I myself will start to consider the vaccination once they..
..offer to test you for antibodies and possibly for genetic disposition and then make a recommendation to vaccinate or not
..offer to test you for antibodies after vaccination, to give you an idea on how much protection you have got and how much more you can risk now (or if you're one of the poor souls where the vaccination just didn't provoke any meaningful reaction)
..offer to test you for antibodies before they ask you to boost again
..fully disclose the agreements with the producers and all their data, if this is a problem of global dimension, there is no space for intransparency here.
..force all the self-declared pandemic and vaccination experts to full financial disclosure regarding payments/stocks etc. of involved parties, it would irritate me if not most of the loudest pro-vaxxers hold some stocks or have some lucrative consulting mandates for big pharma, at least this has been proven for the swine flu where Pfizer basically bought the whole WHO's vote.
..prove vaccination is not to be repeated in very short terms (i.e. years instead of months)
