201  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [1 BTC BOUNTY CLAIMED!] Get 6 radeon 7970 installing and mining in Windows on: December 06, 2013, 08:04:59 AM
Well it's been months since the thread was last updated. Has there been a permanent fix to running 6 GPU's reliably?

If someone will give me remote access to the 6GPU rig, I will find permanent fix ; )
Assuming that it can be fixed by modifing .inf files, I've posted differences in working and non-working infs ealier in this thread.
202  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [1 BTC BOUNTY CLAIMED!] Get 6 radeon 7970 installing and mining in Windows on: December 06, 2013, 08:02:43 AM
There is rumor of a techpowerup 13.1 driver having extra GPUs enabled
It's not a rumor, I got 6 rigs running with that driver with 6 MSI 7950 in each. Clean Windows 8 Pro install followed by the above diver install. Nothing else.
Other people reported it working as well.

Question about GPUs going to power saving mode. On some of those 6 rigs I have, on and off one of the cards will go down to 60 KHs and restarting cgminer will not fix that. I noticed sometimes just moving the monitor cable from one gpu to another will instantly "wake up the card" running at 60kHs and fix it back to 630ih range.

I'ts been bugging me a while now and I can't find reliable fix. Does dummy DVI/VGA connectors work, or is there other stable solution that fixes that issue?

Try disabling "AMD External Events" service nad "AMD Fuel" if you installed full Catalyst. And all power saving features, like 'Display Off', Screen Saver, PCIE link.

Also I have use
setx DISPLAY ":0"
or dummies on windows 2008 or all cards are always off except one with monitor connected.

dress up, make sure drugs/something illegal is going on, receive some punches(enough for medical examination proof), knock him out, call the police -> friend of mine even made some money ; )

not that I advice you to do this..
204  Economy / Goods / Re: Help me take [btc] at my wood oven pizza restaurant in Brooklyn NY on: December 04, 2013, 01:46:32 AM
..have the person scan and pay me, and then I could pay their check with my credit card, earning points on my CC and accumulating Btc that I could then sell or hold as I saw fit.

are you sure that u are not breaking any laws at this step?
technically you are acting as money exchange service without registration, right?
205  Other / Off-topic / Re: My next door neighbour continually smokes weed every 2-3 hours in his garden... on: December 03, 2013, 11:33:12 PM
And it's doing my fucking head in. I have nothing against weed and am in fact pro-drugs, but this shit fucking reeks and often makes me feel sick. It's complete schwag weed and he continually coughs his guts up pretty much every-time he smokes it from 6 in the morning to midnight. He coughs so violently that I've heard him puke several times. My windows are always shut yet it still gets in and smells vile. What do I do? If I ask him to stop doing it, I doubt he will. Do I threaten him with the police if he refuses? I don't want to do that, but this shit is making me feel physically sick, especially when he barfs. He lives with his grandad who has hated me since I was a child. He even attacked me on one occasion for no reason what-so-ever. I don't mind his grandson smoking it as long as I can't smell it or hear him. He also has a 1-2-year-old girl and often leaves her in the house whilst he goes outside to smoke. I can hear her crying and screaming whilst he's outside. He's a stupid skinny degenerate thieving Jeremy Kyle reject chav. I also believe I could kick the living shit out of him if it came to it, but I'm a pacifist and will only fight if I'm attacked and there's no other options.

And who the fuck actually gets addicted to weed? I mean seriously.

Wut do? Please advise.

Yeah.. you must talk first(imo), tho since you have 'history' it prly won't help.
But don't make any threats! Cause when you actually will call the police you will be blamed and.. ppl do crazy things ; )

The safest way imo is calling police right away or reserve to violence right away. Sadly some ppl all they understand is the violence..
Or maybe taping all this first. Maybe install live-web-cam, but the way that it won't be linked to you.
Or make smoking in that particular place uncomfortable.. maybe by installing some powerfull lights.
Or ofc giving the guy some normal weed Cheesy

I don't know what I've done to deserve the barrage of abuse
Well.. instead of figuring out the reason of the issue, checking your PCs, setting up/looking in your router logs/etc, you blindly assume that issue is not on your end.
Basically, in my eyes, you are the kind of person, which screams that Windows sux, when.. dunno.. anything wrong happens ; )
I think that's stupidity without the option of learning, cause in order to actually learn you always must assume that you can be wrong or at least first you need to prove that you are not.

So.. since you can't be helped.. why not have a good laugh? ; )

, I wonder how many of these replies are sock puppets, as they are the ones using broken English.
Ofc, everyone who is not native english speaker is a 'sock puppet'. Right.
Btw, BTC-e is operated by russians! Probably communists! RED ALERT!!

Anyway, call ghostbusters!

Hi. I just wanted you to know that BTC-E is not secure and you shouldn't use it. I did some exchanges with it and it worked but more recently my account got totally hacked into. I didn't loose any coins but it's just not worth using. My username and password are not easily guessable, my password is around 25 random chars. All the time I get emails from BTCE telling me I successfully logged into my account, like this:

Code:
Successful authorization.
Login: <username>
IP: <myip>
Date and time: 03.12.13 02:17

I've changed my password but it just happens again. I also tried to email them about the security issues but I got the response "what is the response you would like" ?? Very helpful. I also asked them to delete the account but received nothing.

OMG!
Whenever I login to BTC-E I receive e-mail, that someone logged in to BTC-E from my ip! I even checked the time, it matches!

Could this someone be me??

No. It can't be. Someone invisible is sitting in my room with invisible computer and logins to BTC-E using my ip at the same time as I log in.

Wait, invisiblity does not exist. Must be something else. I know. Hackerz exist!

HAAAAKZZZZZZZZ!!!!!

hi , please add new version with driver 12.6 + sdk 13.1 for rig 5 x 7970 .
I choose 12.8 and the included SDK (2.7) based off the CGMiner README recommendations. Is there a reason you want this specific driver/SDK combination? Is it supposed to work better for some reason?

The reason why he was asking is that 12.6 was the last version that supported 8 GPUs.  12.7+ only support 4 GPUs.
However, it may be possible latest 13.6 versions may support multiple GPUs.  Could not find any confirmation yet on that.
13.1 from techpowerup should also support 8 GPUs, at least it supports 6 GPUs.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: July 28, 2013, 01:25:16 PM
why do people still spread this powered riser FUD? I have NEVER used a powered riser, and I have never had problems. All my rigs have 6 cards (8 gpu for 5k series, or 6 7970) and use 16x and 1x slots all with 1x > 1x risers. Been mining since july 2011.

Just because you did not have issues - does not mean powered risers are FUD ; )
Yesterday my friend burnt couple of non-powered 16x-1x risers and before that mb and the same conf with powered risers have no issues.

Also using powered risers makes perfect sense technically speaking unless you have proof that all the GPUs are using no more than 10W from PCI-E slot and that all the motherboards are capable providing 10W on each PCI-E slot(or any other W combination which won't burn mb power regulator).

p.s.
I'm also running non-powered risers on all my rigs with no issues.

edit 2013/07/28: After running ~2months 24/7 my rig burned ; ) PSU ATX motherboard connector to be exact.

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 rev. 3.0, 2x6950 + 4x7950, Enermax Revolution 85+ 1250W, all card via x16_x1 non-powered risers.

PSU ATX motherboard connector burned after running 24/7 for ~2months.

Btw, I've managed to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Core on 16GB USB Flash and it is working fine.
I've chosen "Core" since I was itching to try it out for the long time and mining rig(or any other headless server) seemed like the perfect environment for Core installation.

So, there are no issues with x64/x86, since basically it is a full blown Windows.
Out of 16GB 12GB are free, so it uses ~4GB.
Installation was pretty easy, though configuring took me a while, primary because it was my first time dealing with Core and sometimes it could be very annoying(installing drivers from command line for example was completely new thing for me).

I've also prepared Windows Server 2008 R2 full USB stick, but have not tried it yet.
And the utility I've used to create USB bootable Windows claims to be able to make also Windows 7/Windows 8 bootable from USB.

The only downside is that you need to have a license(not a downside for me).
Ofc 'Core' has some weirdeness(to the 'normal' Windows user).. like absence of taskbar/explorer/DirectDraw/etc ; )

Anyway.. if s1 is interested - feel free to contact me for assistance.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: July 03, 2013, 05:23:20 AM
because they never imagined anyone would want more then 6 GPUs.

THIS. This is the reason I have gone with Linux and ditched Windows. With Linux, they didn't imagine ANYTHING. With Linux, you can do almost anything. Almost everything is supported, and if you know what your are doing, almost everything works.

With Windows, you can do what they expect people to do.

I'm more concerned that 32bit Windows won't be able to map 6 GPUs.

Are there any limitations of x64 PE or x86 was chosen for not technical reasons?
IIRC, Win PE 64-bit can't run 32-bit programs. Unlike a full desktop version of the 64-bit OS, which can sort of emulate 32 bit programs, only native 64 bit applications can be run in a PE environment.

Open source programs like CGMiner and Akbash could potentially be built for 64 bit windows, but programs like GPU-z and MSI AB and several other smaller utilities would be a giant PITA to find native 64 bit versions.

Oh, I see.. that's a shame..
I've did a quick search and it seems it is possible to include 32bit support, but judging from my experience with WinBuilder it will be a major pain.

Thanks for your efforts btw ; )
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: July 03, 2013, 01:35:27 AM
So, to sum it all up.

5 GPUs - Win/*nix out of the box
6 GPUs - Win+12.6 / Win+13.1 techpowerup / *nix out of the box(? have not verfied myself)
8 GPUs - Win?? / *nix out of the box??
8+ GPUs - a lot of pain ; ) BIOS mods/ *nix kernel mods
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Motherboard of choice for 6 or more GPU's on: July 03, 2013, 01:31:30 AM
I have personally verified that you can not install more than 6 GPUs with windows 7.

The only thing you've personally verified is the fact that you were unable to install more than 6 GPUs with windows 7.

Windows XP 32 bit + 8 GPUs - http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=7902&start=270#p115136
Yeah.. that's two core nvidia cards, but they do count as GPUs, right ; )

I think that there is no hard coded limit or any limitation of GPUs in both Linux and Windows.
However when installing 8+ GPUs there are certain issues with BIOS unable to map all the GPUs.
Can't remember the project name right now, but guys made 10(not sure about the number but above 8 ) nvidia GPU rig, they had to use custom BIOS and custom linux kernel pathes to make it work.

Plus there is known issue with Windows ATI driver, which prevents you from n+ GPUs drivers being properly installed.
Some people claim n=4, some n=5.
For my setup(GA-990FXA-UD3 + 2x6950 + 2x7950) n=5. And in order to use 6GPUs in Windows I needed either to use 12.6 driver downloaded from AMD or 13.1 driver downloaded from techpowerup.

Also that 13.1 from techpowerup driver is different from 13.1 from AMD driver only in registry, so I assume that with some mod it is possible to use any driver version for 6GPU rigs.

So unless s1 explains why it is not possible technically to use 6+ AMD GPUs in Windows I consider it is doable.
"Windows sux"/"I was not able to use more than n GPUs in Windows"/"AMD drivers are crap" are not technical explanations.

Though, I'll test it and get back with results.

Cool, I'm glad it works ; )

Yep, just checked SkyNet's solution, should have worked also.
Except 2.7 SDK weights 149MB and OpenCL runtime is named 'OpenCL-CPU.msi' there.

Btw, have you installed Catalyst also?

SIX is the max number for windows 7.

not true.
