2001  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The chainstate and blocks directories on: August 02, 2023, 03:43:18 PM
Pruning can be simpler and wouldn't require you much procedures or explainations, you can add prune =550 to the bitcoin.conf, I'm suggesting this because it seems you are not abandoning the windows OS entirely to use linux to run your full node.
If you're using different wallets, you cannot do this. Pruning also means that you cannot import a different wallet into your Linux instance without a complete resynchronization.

Considering that when pruning was introduced in 0.11.0 it had no wallet until 0.12, I thought it'll be possible to have this issue solved in later versions, but I found on this thread where you and other members explained in detail why such feature won't be expected. Without full resynchronization when adding new wallet, it's meaningless to call it prune. The concept of prune is to eradicate massive storage consumption. So, adding or importing different wallet shouldn't be a priority to users who have prune enabled, as they should know, to create enough space, that a lot of blocks including the genesis block won't be saved on the disk. I think prune users should be prepared to insert the right wallet before pruning in the first place.
2002  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The chainstate and blocks directories on: August 02, 2023, 12:41:21 PM

I have full blockchain on some external drive, and any operating system can easily read it, if you point your Bitcoin Core into the right directory

Did you split the data directory into different drives to improve chainstate access speed? just figured here that splitting can help the access speed of the chainstate especially when the data directory is stored on a magnetic drive. Though it's a good advise to copy both files, but, in some cases, it's not the only possible alternative.

Or is there a simpler way to do this?

2003  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Happy to reach 50 merit on: August 01, 2023, 03:48:37 PM
If the mentality or thought is, learning in this forum is hard, then getting merits would seem difficult for that person. But, if a person enjoys learning here, they'll easily see merits, because they'll distribute good responses. The discussion about merit is getting flooded, and It's the reason why newbies focus, mainly, on getting merits. They're many attributes to it, and not getting merits doesn't mean a user is not learning in the forum. A good learner may not be able to construct quality contents in the forum and they'll end up receiving lesser merits, since their content may not meet the criteria required to keep the clearn like word structuring, good descriptions etc. Hence, we get the merit to rank up, which shows the person behind the account how useful they've been to the forum, and if not satisfying they can decide to add more flairs to their writing or upgrade their bitcoin knowledge, by mastering other parts of bitcoin.
2004  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Lightning network on: August 01, 2023, 03:20:12 PM
I've read not your node not your coin, but the first response explained it clearly. Regarding services like watchtower, backing up channel funds, is a good alternative to watchtower, it'll help close the channel if the node fails or without the assistance of the third party, thereby saving the remaining SATs in the channel. If our funds depended on the hands of the person in charge of the node, the news would have been all over the market, for people to stay clear from connecting to different nodes in the network.
2005  Economy / Economics / Re: Reason why you will never become rich on: July 31, 2023, 08:36:53 PM
(US based opinion)

Marriage  / Divorce and children were horrible to my finances. Marriage is of little to no value here and mostly serves the woman as a means. Then you work hard and become boring and she runs off with a Chad or Tyrone and you flip the bill and lose over half your assets. Heck the court can make you pay her atty to sue you!

Don't get married, don't have kids. There is no need on this planet for more people and having kids is just a societal pressure. If you change your mind just pick any single mother with 3 kids from 5 different dads and pay her bills and trash your time off.

Be single, have wonderful girlfriends and when they stall out move on. Travel the world, scuba dive, fly airplanes, ride motorcycles and keep everything you worked for.

You made good points but I think this is very subjective. I know a lot of rich people who are in a good loving marriage and family. I think it is still more on the perspective of an individual. If you can handle your finances well and smartly, having a family should not be a problem. You cannot force people to not get married cause you believe every outcome will be the same.

Indeed you are right, but on the second flip he is not forcing anybody not to get married, he just released his thoughts regarding the thread. People, like myself, think alongside his ideas or opinion, because on the long run spending time is different from spending money. I value my time and always tend to diversify my time as quick as possible, since the world didn't segregate us from meeting new people, which helps to generate new ideas. They're multiple kids on earth, population control is thriving; born less than 2-3 kid as result of over population. Hence if a single mother exists with kids and no father to ride or lead the family journey a single man can take it as a fresh responsibility to help the existence of those kids. Looking at his points, a man should be able to enjoy his life and not get tied down to people who may neglect him in future, just like the divorce issue he raised. Imagine the emotional meltdown it'll cause the man to share his property or wealth because his wife, whom he worked and stressed himself to sustain, decided to leave him out of few reasons that can be corrected. Hence, in essence, everyone decides what they want and it's rare not to find people who think like us. His ideas are not bad, though raw and forward, but will be of good benefit to the man on the long run. But for what the OP is saying about family, I don't accept that. Family helps us to work hard and provide a good life to make them happy, kicking them out or not reaching out to them won't help us emotionally either.
2006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 12 years of a Legendary post on: July 29, 2023, 01:31:11 PM
It is good that one should follow his instinct in what he believes, and never let anyone to discourage you, just like the anonymous guest did. I can see that ever since the creation of bitcoin, there have been bitcoin lovers who knows the potential of bitcoin and they have helped the adoption of bitcoin due to their price forecast and they also tell people what they believe by encouraging them to see bitcoin has a future gold. This is the same way that we also have people who go against bitcoin no matter the positive news that they hear about bitcoin. Those adamant ones are the ones regretting now that they have missed their opportunity and they are still procrastinating. Imagine the anonymous guest with 95+btc,how wealthy he would be by now if he still hodli, but he said he will sell some and use the funds to live a flashy lifestyle. This is how those of us that sees bitcoin hitting 100k next ATH will also be happy if we can hodli and keep on accumulating more btc.

It's always discouraging to walk through an unverified track, like those years when bitcoin was birthed. A lot of people took the risk and invested into bitcoin, yet wondered and plundered over it, if it's the right decision. We still experience such things today, and such threads as this, is a prove that bitcoin is a good investment. It'll be bad with such reference, that we neglect bitcoin. Those whales today had no reference they were the pioneers, who pushed money into bitcoin and understood how it works. Hence, it's normal to undergo discouraging moments, people close to us won't think twice to reduce our moves to nothing. Because they'll always run back to do things they believe or have seen to be possible or profitable. Investors today load funds and buy bitcoin because they've seen others who made profits through it. Such threads should be encouraged and come up often times to help us continue the journey.
2007  Economy / Economics / Re: The gloomy light called subsidy. on: July 29, 2023, 06:53:30 AM
If the government decides to cancel subsidies on some basic materials, it must find quick solutions to cover the differences resulting from the rise in prices. Canceling subsidies without finding ways to compensate those affected by the cancellation of subsidies will cause many economic problems because this will create a state of stagnation in the markets as a result of high prices and the lack of purchasing power for most people.

Here in my country, for example, the government canceled subsidies on basic materials such as gasoline, diesel, gas, and some other basic materials, which caused a significant rise in prices and the inability of citizens to buy many goods due to the lack of salary increases, which created a gap in purchasing power, and recession began to hit Economy.
The quick solution is the subsidy itself, long term solutions which could drive down the price of goods would at the earliest take a few years to show any results, however since politicians hold office for a very short amount of time they tend to not care about solving those issues with long term solutions, as someone else will get to claim they solved that issue when it was them the ones that solved it, so citizens are trapped in the middle and as soon as the subsidy ends the price of goods skyrocket, especially when we are talking about fuel as everything requires fuel to be made or to be transported, increasing the costs of almost everything at the same time.

Subsidy on PMS alone won't help but eat deeply into the annual budget of any country. If removed would help the government to expand to other sector, which is lacking attention. A supposed country where people get fuel and probably cheap transportation and yet complain of hardship, shows the result that the country is only pumping money into one sector, the oil industry. Scholarship will fail to thrive in such country, unemployment, underemployment, poor wages etc will become a major problem in the country, while they enjoy cheap fuel. Maintaining the fuel subsidy suffers the country's economy, as the government spend huge amount of money daily. Instead of cheap fuel helping the citizens, they go ahead abusing it; pump attendants defrauding people. Fine everyone wants in cheap, but not when the government is paying for it. The money can be channeled to other sectors, such that everyone in the country can at least benefit from the annual national budget. Looking closely into the complaints after the fuel subsidy removal, it's not far from what we hear in the past when fuel was subsidized. Hence, the citizens should adapt to the current situation, and observe if the government is helping the country by removing subsidy.
2008  Economy / Economics / Re: How is financial stability defined for you? on: July 26, 2023, 09:38:04 AM
I think that money is a means to an end, not an end in itself. Money can provide security, freedom, and opportunities, but it can also bring stress, greed, and envy.

Money is a great tool used to distract the rest of the world from the neferous activities happening in the world. A good number of people who think they're financially free still ask withing themselves if indeed they're free from financial troubles. Money is never enough, not even for a country's president. The world consists of levels, which people in the very top do not bother about money but concentrate mainly on ways or techniques to control the world. Money is being printed and only a few amount of the money is channelled to the cooperate world, those who earn weekly or monthly. Meaning that the rest of the money can be assumed to be with the 1%. Hence, for those who don't belong to this category can feed their ergo with financial stability when they make a good amount of the little money circulating among the masses. In a simple term, I'd call financial stability as having a good number of people who work for us and remit money into our account weekly or monthly. Maintaining this for a longer period can earn us power to see oneself as financially stable.
2009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A neighbor next door on: July 26, 2023, 07:45:27 AM
If you already told him, that you are not teaching, why is your mind not settled? In my mind, I see a person that is tired of running errands in drug business and wants another source of survival, looking at his curiosity in your description. You can't think of him as a person that needs btc as a slush fund, because if he is that big in the business like you want to portray him he would have boys that will do the bitcoin research for him. Hence, if he is serious send him the bitcoin white paper to read he won't bother you anymore.
2010  Economy / Economics / Re: Can your passion lead to an increase in your net worth? on: July 25, 2023, 06:43:44 AM
Passion is interesting when it yields no money, but gets difficult when it turns to work. I've read a case where a person who his love for Lamborghini is incomparable ended up getting his dream job, indeed, to race with Lamborghini. He ended up getting bored doing the job; due to fatigue, and stress. In additional, like someone already said, if the passion is not on demand, it won't yield profits. Blogging for instance about yourself, could be a passion, but nobody cares if you brushed your teeth, hence the traffic will be poor and instead of yield profits its decreasing the zeal of blogging in you. In a nutshell, people should work on things that nobody else would do; what they hate. Those things people hate doing can increase our economy if we venture into it, because they hate doing it, they'll pay us to handle it for them.

In my quest of learning what writing is about, I found this forum helpful. Before I found the forum, I wasn't able to construct a good content. So, I read a book that encouraged people to write short paragraphs everyday to enhance their writing skill. I spent time reading short write ups everyday in the forum and noticed how some user's English improved enormously while posting contents here. I, once, checked a user's content, whom I won't mention for some reasons, in 2020 his sentences and word syntaxes looked very poor, but today you won't believe how good a writer he has become.

Only those who understand the value of being able to construct a writeup will remain thankful to this forum, for increasing a lot of its member's writing skills. Today, I'm happy this forum helped me improve my writing, it was never like this before I joined the forum. At least people can read and understand where my points are heading to. Thank you all the members for being strong critics on poor written threads, it's the best responses that helped improve my love for writing.
2013  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you think selling your property is better than taking loan? on: July 22, 2023, 07:51:29 AM
If you are in a situation that requires some funds immediately, would you go for a loan or would you sell one of your properties to solve the problem? And which of them is a better option, to sell property or to take a loan?

Lucky me I am far from being in a situation as described. When I read the story I thought that you live in a low GDP country or in a poor environment even in a rich country.

In the situation you describe, neither of these two outcomes seems ideal to me. The best thing to do would be to try to improve your situation so that this never happens again.

Anyway, trying to put myself in the example described, I think I would choose to borrow. I prefer to have more quality of life while I can, with a fridge and a washing machine at home.

Things get red, some times, in people's life out of different reasons. But, planning also helps us to outpace such a fast approaching hard experience; running out of funds. Selling items doesn't count neither does borrowing work, as it'll fade off. They're many other ways to get through tough situations. Although not everyone has the facilities or skills that can take them through hard times. Improving situation like you said can mean improving social skills, those we see everyday are our best tools in life. Calling people who are far away for help most times dont provide immediate help compared to close friends who live in the same neighborhood, and understands, first hand, our situation. I'd also add that Op didn't help his friend because he doesn't see him. Seeing can mean love, in similar format those that we see on daily basis we tend to love, naturally. Hence, OP's friend if he has the social skills he would have taken the advantage of the people around him and ask for their help instead of calling his friend in a far place.
2014  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No social media is safe on: July 20, 2023, 06:19:50 PM
It's always similar stories of fake trading site that require the victim to pay certain amount of money to be eligible to take their earning. The growth of scam in the cryptocurrency market is becoming alarming and everyone should stay careful from con artists. When chatting with a stranger it's a good technique not to stay consistent or replying their messages often. Make out two days gap before replying their DM and you'll see how fast they'll lose interest in chatting you. Op was carried away with the chats to the extent of getting persuaded, which should have been an immediate red flag, but he found out when they've already swept his money.
2015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Days you need to work your ass at minimum wage for a BTC, by country on: July 20, 2023, 11:19:03 AM

Its ironic to read some bitcoiners who from this statistics think bitcoin won't change anything.

And what do you think will change?
Do you think people will stop working on a minimum wage, that the minimum wage will earn you a good life? Do you think there will be no poverty? We had the gold standard for a millennium, did any of those disappear while it was used?
How could BTC change this for everybody in this world?

There is never a thing that will end poverty for everyone in this world. And remember the wording “Anything" was first used before you added “everybody" that's where my point was raised from. How would it be said that bitcoin cannot change anything? Does it mean the whole innovation is a wasted effort ? Multiple amount of people got lifted from poverty through the use of cryptocurrency and bitcoin. Some traded, created contents and marketed products using bitcoin. Many were able to move ahead of their minimium wage salaries and made more profits through bitcoin. Hence aside the monetary aspect, bitcoin is digital money and is not the government that makes changes for people that decides for themselves, whether to be rich or remain poor by not advancing their skills to make more streams of income. All the questions you asked is dependent on personal decision not on bitcoin. Bitcoin has no leg or neither does it speak. So, people who wish to make 30k dollars can think outside the box for themselves and earn it, not by waiting for bitcoin to help them think. Nobody is a slave today, people are free to take steps. Stop shifting the responsibilities of the government to bitcoin, what does bitcoin has to do with increasing minimum wage? Bitcoin is here to solve monetary problems such as moving from centralized ledger to decentralize ledger that works with time. He that wish to get 1btc while alive should think of another alternative other than depending on minimum wage. How many people who depend on minimum wage invest into bitcoin?
2016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Days you need to work your ass at minimum wage for a BTC, by country on: July 20, 2023, 07:39:09 AM
Its ironic to read some bitcoiners who from this statistics think bitcoin won't change anything. Everyone wants to be rich just like in case of fiat. The statistics is situated on how long it will take a person or worker in some countries to hit 30k dollars if they depend squarely on their minimum wage. Hence, if the price of bitcoin hits 20k the duration will reduce. Since the price of bitcoin is not static the notion that it won't change anything doesn't sit right with me, because bitcoin is made for transactional purposes not to save up to 1btc. There will never come a time when people will be stopped from using the blockchain if they don't own up to 1BTC. The thread is good as time is being invested, but it should have been stated to be how long it takes to make 30k dollars not 1BTC.
2017  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have you ever been scammed ? on: July 19, 2023, 11:37:07 AM
Scam is eating deep into the internet and people fall victim including the elites. I have countless times been scammed by vendors who take funds but fail to remit what I paid for in bitcoin. This happen regularly on telegram. Happily for quite a long time I have never lost my bitcoin to such people again, although I still send money first, but good people exist who provide genuine services to buyers. The clipboard attack scam is one of the tricky scams on the internet, ever since I read and researched about it, I've never sent money without cross checking the address. And it also thought me not to download untrusted apps into devices where I transfer btc.
2018  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: This time for meme coin? on: July 19, 2023, 11:25:11 AM
They'll never be a good time for memecoin, it keeps failing investors and similarly investors who lost money through memecoin wouldn't dare invest into good cryptocurrency projects like bitcoin and ethereum. Some people see memecoins as an opportunity to maximize their profits or feel like early adopters, yet they get disappointed with the results that follows memecoin. They've got no use case, which is a red flag to the durability of its price. Except that Elon musk hypes dogecoins its price wouldn't have made any advancement during the 2021 bull run. They depend on hype and that's a waste of the naive investor's money.
2019  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why is Gamble gain more fans than Bitcoin? on: July 19, 2023, 10:50:39 AM
Well I'd say that if the topic is rephrased to why online casino is gaining more fans than bitcoin it'll be better and comparable, because gambling generally as said by previous responses has been around for centuries, which keeps it ahead of many industries including bitcoin. Humans don't like delay, everyone wants to see immediate results; win or loss. That's why a good number of people gamble over investing money into bitcoin. Additionally, Gambling happen naturally. Without the house or event gambling will occur, even in nations where gambling is illegal, peers can be gambling privately with no traces. Unlike bitcoin with lots of barriers, citizens can be traced if they use bitcoin in a country where its banned. You'll see that bitcoin doesn't compete with gambling by any means for now, as people can easily change in future coupled with rise in gambling addiction people can begin to choose bitcoin.
2020  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lender, You Must be careful about MAFIA farming account on: July 17, 2023, 08:58:04 AM
Using the acronym MAFIA doesn't align with your post and shouldn't be used since the meaning refers to some specific people and an association. Hence if a person was into bounty hunting and later decides to cheat a lender and run away with their money, it's an Ill treatment but if the person grows an account to legendary just to borrow money and escape it makes no sense and doesn't worth it. Such thread should also be accompanied with proves not only spitting out what's going through your inner mind.
