2001  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: February 27, 2023, 02:40:52 AM
I think importing and exporting medicine is a tough thing, but many Americans go to Canada to pay "full price" on drugs there, like insulin, and yet it is still cheaper there, if you are living in detroit or some other place which is close to Canada, you could just drive there once a month, get your supplies, pay %10 of what you would pay in USA and then bring it back, that is not illegal.

However, the main reason why this is a problem in the USA is once again capitalism, you may dislike socialism as much as you want, but when you let capitalists run a nation, they will say "let the companies make a profit!!" even about your insulin, they rather see you dead then lose any profits. Simple as that.

People in the US have decided to not have a great public health system, and instead have an expensive private health care system.

In other countries, such as Canada, Australia, the UK, etc, there's a great public health system (of course everything has issues though), and you can get those services at a fraction of the price you would pay in the US. And I didn't say free, because someone ends up paying for it, through taxes. But the actual cost paid is way less than in the US.
2002  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slots 101: Basics, Strategies, and Discussion (with poll) on: February 27, 2023, 02:37:24 AM
I see there is no ELK provider on the list, and that one has become my favorite in the past weeks I will list the slots I enjoy from that provider.

-Tropicool
-Cluster Slide
-Nitropolis 2&3

In tropicool I get my biggest win, which was close to an x700, and my last bonus was on Cluster Slide, but that one was only an x50. I keep chasing the bonus in Nitropolis 3, it should hit soon.

Is there a way to know the odds of each one of these games?

It seems a bit hard to select a game with only having a look at the graphics of it, and not knowing the math behind them.

I'm probably missing something basic it seems.

~snip~
It is been feed up by information into its library which means that it is really that accumulating on whats been able to accumulate and it is really just that not really reliant if you are really that basing your predictions

and betting positions on what AI had suggested because its never been that recommendable but if you do see that it is really  that relevant or effective to yours then its your call.

It is really just that people cant really have the easiest way because if it does really work then lots of people would be making use of it.

The thing is that AI can generate false information, and can also read information on the internet that is false, so it's not really too accurate to make predictions.

Also, it's usually trained with older data, from months or even years ago so it's also not up to date with the latest news, which are the most relevant to make a prediction.

I don't think a general AI like chatGPT is great for this, but maybe some specifically trained one could help a bit.

There is a reason that Europe has the largest lobby when it comes to international tournaments. I am not saying that I like that, but all these tournaments must be financed one way or another and you need countries that are able to stem the task. This is no easy endeavor.

Many African countries don't have the resources and also not the infrastructure to stem a World Cup. Qatar was an exception for one specific reason: they had the money and the access to make it happen.Whether it was right to have a World Cup in Qatar? No, in my opinion. But they could do it and they did. This is the difference to some countries around the world that are amazing countries but don't have the resources to pull it off.

Yeah, at the end of the day money talks. You actually need lots of resources to organize a world cup, and actually make it a reality. It's a gamble that many countries take hoping to get a better return from their investment.

And then FIFA of course gets a cut from it all as well.

At the end of the day, anything that is popular will attract lots of people that want to control it.

Wealthy, drunk guys in a playful mood are every casino's favuorite type of customer Smiley

They don't even need to be wealthy, they just need to have access to money.

It can be money from their clients, it can be a loan, etc.

Someone that is wealthy will probably not go to the casino to spend lots of money
but in reality many rich people enter the casino drunk and spend their money in the casino.

Yeah, but you can't repeat that many times, because then they won't be rich any more  Grin

And I reckon the vast majority of wealthy people know better than that. Otherwise they probably wouldn't have been able to generate that wealth in the first place.

Of course there are exceptions though...
2006  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: February 26, 2023, 01:48:47 AM
Shouldn't you at least watch a movie before you make such assumption? Time will tell, but I don't see this version becoming classic even if it wins Best Picture Oscar. It is a good movie, but its not that good or groundbreaking (like 1930 version was) was eventually deserve that status.
~snip~

Yeah, absolutely.

It has the potential since everyone seems to speak highly of it. But of course I'll watch it first and form my personal opinion about it.

The thing is that you can't really watch all the movies so you need some kind of pre-selection, and this movie has a great pre-selection. That's what I meant by that  Grin

Have you ever bought a pizza using Bitcoin in lightning network? Wink

I haven't actually, not many places offer that option.

Laszlo actually bought two large pizzas in 2018 with lightning. Here you can read more about it: https://stacker.news/items/142221

Here are the lightning pizzas from laszlo:

I actually bought a pizza to celebrate lightning pizza day though (25 Feb)

 I think FIFA Know what they are doing by making two countries to host the world cup. This might be the first time this is happening but we need to understand that there are many countries that are very ready to host the world cup and due to the competition, I think FIFA has the option or power to decide who will host the next world cup entire.
 Whether there are two countries hosting the world cup, we will need to try this out if it is going tobe a better option foe  peopl.

It's actually going to be three countries hosting the next world cup, USA, Canada, and Mexico.

They have never done this before, only two teams have hosted it before, Korea-Japan 2002.

It will definitely be a tricky world cup to organize, so we'll see how it goes. It's probably going to bring more money to FIFA though...

I saw a trailer of this movie some few days back while watching a movie on my cable TV, and i particularly loved it and was going to search for it on the internet and download, but I later forget, coming here right now and seeing this comment took my mind back to it.\
Though I am yet to watch this movie in full, from the trailer I saw, I could tell it was a very beautiful movie and one the entire citizens of the world could learn a lot from, and i also agree that this movie indeed, deserve the award it got.
i will download this movie tonight and watch over the weekend.

I feel that I'm starting to read a few spoilers of this movie, so I might as well go and watch it soon  Grin

Seems to be one of those great movies that you always remember about them, a classic let's say.

We'll see how it is. Very promising though

congrats miner, fantastic!

has anyone noticed how there's more and more solo miners finding blocks nowadays?

maybe it's just me or maybe there's more home miners out there nowadays Smiley

Heaps of solo miners, but also, every 10 minutes there's a non-solo miner getting a block, so vast majority of blocks are mined by non-solo miners.

Nice

Wonder what the setup was...

You can see from ck solo stats that they have 10 miners:

{
 "hashrate1m": "774T",
 "hashrate5m": "833T",
 "hashrate1hr": "808T",
 "hashrate1d": "649T",
 "hashrate7d": "189T",
 "lastshare": 1677190268,
 "workers": 10,

Probably they are a combination of different types of miners, but each one of those ten miners seem to be something like an Antminer S17 PRO or something like that. Basically industrial miners capable of doing dozens of hashes per second each.

I don't know whether it is a good thing or a bad thing. In Latin America, there is so much focus on football that all the other sports items get sidelined. And this is one of the reasons why these countries perform poorly in Olympics (when compared to the United States and Canada). But then it is their choice. In the US, the focus is more on their own "local" sports (such as baseball), as well as for athletics. And as a result, they always top the Olympic medal chart. Priorities matter. Americans give a higher priority to the Olympics, while for the Latin Americans, higher in order is FIFA world cup.

Well, also the number of people matters...

The US has 334 million people

China also does great at the Olympics, with 1.4 billion...

Argentina for example has about 45 million.
2015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strike added Philippines to the "Send Globally" list on: February 23, 2023, 07:23:43 AM
strike does not "use bitcoin without any companies"
~snip~

I've never claimed that though.

I'm simply stating that Strike is adding another option of transferring fiat, using Bitcoin as the transport layer in between.

Maybe in some cases Strike ends up being more expensive, and in others cheaper. The point is that there's a new way of doing international fiat transfers, using Bitcoin.

Also, since you mentioned fees, here are WU fees:

In addition to the transfer fee, Western Union also makes money from currency exchange. When choosing a money transmitter, carefully compare both transfer fees and exchange rates. Fees, foreign exchange rates and taxes may vary by brand, channel, and location based on a number of factors. Fees and rates subject to change without notice.

I haven't seen a direct comparison from Strike, Western Union, and Transferwise, but at least it's another option to consider. Also, there's the waiting time to receive the funds. With Bitcoin this can be done much faster.

you really think strike does things for free?
you really think there wil be no fee

think about it rationally
the peso to usd via strikes favourite method requires
a exchange spread/conversion rate (peso to btc)
a tx fee to lock coin (btc-msat)
a small route fee.
a unlock btc(broadcast) fee (msat-btc)
a  exchange spread/conversion rate btc usd

strike isnt doing this out the goodness of their heart
they take small commission from the IN processing and OUT of the whole movement, atleast 3 fee cost opportunities to take profits from

https://beta.strike.me/faq/fees/

Quote
Transaction fees
we may pass certain third-party fees on to you, such as Bitcoin network fees or Lightning Network fees.

Mining fees
Strike passes on the associated mining fee to you.

Routing fees
 When you send funds with Strike via the Lightning Network, Strike passes on the associated Lightning Network fees to you.

Exchange rates
The conversion rate is based on exchange rates offered by Strike’s third-party partners at the time the transaction is executed and a margin applied by Strike, from which we and our partners earn revenue.

yep strike earns from the fiat exchanges margin and by being part of the lightning route in and out

Of course now they charge you fees, but even now it's less than the competition.

I'm referring to the future, in which you won't be needing to convert the money, you simply transfer Bitcoin and skip the conversion fee completely.

But you need to get there step by step.

First we had companies like TransferWise, which tried to minimize the fees for transferring fiat, but still using only fiat.

Then you have companies like Strike, which go even lower by using Bitcoin as the transport layer.

Then we will just use Bitcoin without the need of any company.

Soccer in the USA has grown a lot, I do not deny it, the MLS is one of the leagues that are famous, but when we refer to Mexico things can change, I have never been to that beautiful country, but some friends tell me that since children, there is a lot of activity with a soccer ball, children play in the streets, in the parks, I cannot deny that Mexicans also have baseball as a powerful sport, but when it comes to soccer, it identifies them even more, so it can be That is one of the reasons why they have allowed them to have those matches, because they are very fanatical, and if we compare it with US soccer, I think the Mexicans are superior in technique.

Sure, but there's simply no comparison with South America, or Europe.

When there's a world cup match involving their home country there, the whole country stops and watches the game.

It's nowhere close in the US. Sure, there are some fans, but it's so fragmented. In South America it's 99% football. Nothing comes close to it.

So where talking about that Terminator-like kind of approach if we do speak about AI? It cant be possible if it does happen then we're doomed.Its better to have this way but i agree into the point that its really

been called the other way which same as you said that its machine learning since its been fed up by information on huge scale based and continous to be added up into its library which means that
it could be all knowing as the time passes by but still it cant really make out such decision on its own without being that told or whatever it do relates on independent decisions or whatsoever.

Using it up on things which are needing to attach into speculative part? Then it wont really be that effective.

Not really like Terminator at all.

Instead, an advanced general AI would use the Internet to obtain its goals. It would have access to a lot of humans, through unsolicited emails, it would have access to funds by providing services to humans that pay for it, or simply scamming people at large.

Then, it would be able to interact through the real world by simply paying for services.

Imagine how many people live their lives today, not going out, and simply doing everything online. An AI can basically do the same. Call someone through VoIP, generate a voice though text2speech, and have a meaningful conversation, making the human do whatever the AI wants as it can become whatever is needed. Call an uber, request a pickup, whatever. Everything is possible now as a service through the internet. It doesn't matter if you're an AI or a human.

We won't be seeing killer robots, it would simply take over quietly as we continue living our normal lives.

I think it doesn't have "fake" news right now because it is not open to public yet, they deal with it themselves and put just information on it. But, if you actually start giving it away and plenty of people make their own version, you are going to end up finding stuff that would make it very much a big problem.

Hopefully people will realize that not all AI's are right, if we end up thinking what the AI is saying as the truth, then we are going to end up with a ton of problems as well, and going to cause a ton of trouble. I am not saying there won't be anyone, because knowing how stupid people can be, some will think it is 100% factual, which is sad.

If you mean ChatGPT, then anyone can get access to it for free, at https://chat.openai.com

It's been a bit saturated lately, so you might need to get a pro subscription, but it's there, available for anyone to try it out.
2020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Strike added Philippines to the "Send Globally" list on: February 21, 2023, 10:15:29 PM
Quote from: Jack Mallers, Founder and CEO of Strike
“Remittances are a broken system and Strike delivers an incredibly empowering experience for people to send money around the world in nearly an instant,”

Strike is helping millions of people by simply reducing the cost of moving money around the world. They do that by using Bitcoin as the money transport layer, and then once the money is in the target country, they simply buy whatever fiat they use there and deposit it in the person's bank account.

Strike's "Send Globally" feature, which started a few months ago, allows you to send fiat from the US to an increasing number of countries:

Strike launched Send Globally in December 2022 starting with transfers from the U.S. to Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana. The user experience and ability to bridge communities in the U.S. and Africa in partnership with Bitnob have been transformational and the opportunities for Strike in these and other markets are developing fast.

Recently, Strike partnered with Pouch.ph in order to add The Philippines to that list:

All verified US Strike users can now use the Send Globally feature to send to recipients in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and the Philippines, where funds can be received as local currency. Strike doesn’t operate in those countries, but engages with third-party partners to facilitate Send Globally transactions.

Of course it would be better if they simply use Bitcoin natively, but we're not there yet. This is the beginning of a huge transformation worldwide, happening in countries that rely on remittances first, then the rest.

This is just the beginning, foreign exchange fees will be a thing of the past next when you could simply move around money with Bitcoin all around the world. And then, you won't even need to convert Bitcoin anyway.
