2001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: xPost from Reddit: Paypal to accept Bitcoin this month? on: August 04, 2013, 12:20:38 AM
PayPal may regret this decision. I don't think they will be used to having to check for double spends and whatnot or even hard-forks or their client losing connection to the network.

About bitcoinstore.com failing: I checked them out with BTC to burn, but their prices did not bowl me over.

I thought the prices were good, but finding what I wanted was painful.

I gave up trying to find an SSD I wanted

For the week of August 3, 2013
Your Week Ahead - Love Focus: In the game of Monopoly, there's a 'Get out of jail free' card. How strange, given that this board game is supposed to emulate the transactions and exchanges of daily life. None of us can really claim such an exemption. Even the rich and powerful can't stay above the law forever. Who, now, is using you as their ace in the hole? Ought they not to be taking responsibility for their own decisions? How will they learn if they never take the consequences of their choices? It may not be wise to be too forgiving now.

For Monday, August 5 2013:
Even the world's most gifted clairvoyants don't waste their powers on mundane matters. A psychic, wondering what might be available for breakfast, won't go into a trance. They will just open the cupboard or the fridge. Esoteric arts and supernatural gifts are best employed in situations where all other, more obvious, avenues are closed. Much the same can be said about miracles. Too many of us wishing for one of those when all we really need is a good idea. Getting what you need this week, will prove easier than you imagine.

Had to look up what it means, but, an ace in the hole means "an advantage that you have that other people do not know about".

2006  Economy / Speculation / Re: Pool: If PayPal adopts Bitcoin, what would the price be? on: August 03, 2013, 11:31:52 PM
Infested, your theoretical answer (incorrectly) assumes that Paypal will no longer conduct their normal transactions and that Bitcoin transactions will entirely absorb all their other transactions, among other things.

I know, it's a very big generalization.

But if PayPal does have full BTC integration, there will be very little reason to use USD for transactions.

there will, to conduct business with all the merchants that have yet to accept bitcoin.

I really like this gamble by the OP, if he put $15k in March at around $50 (before Mar 17, BTC's $50 or below), he has 300 BTC.  If he put into coinlenders, graet.loan, etc. (spread out the risk and leave some uninvested), he should get about at least 16%.  Let's factor in defaults and suppose he gets 12%, 5 years from now, that will comes to 1.12 ^ 5 = 1.762 * 300 = 528.7 BTC.  I think it's unlikely BTC will be at the same level 5 years from now - either it'll grow many times (possibly worth more than $1000 USD or even more) or it'll be a bust.  If BTC's is > $1000 USD, he makes out with half a million, extremely well for any graduates.  If it becomes a bust, he'll pile on about $21k more debt assuming interest on loan is 7%.  In the scenario that BTC just languish at current rate, he'll still be about $30k ahead.

that's what i concluded.

I did something similar kind of similar in my senior year in college.  But then it wasn't done against a student loan so I've the option of going bankrupt and wipe it off my slate if it went bad - of course, it wasn't for a 30 bagger and half a million, it was just a chance for a 3 bagger.  Go big and aim for something potentially life changing!!  I wish the OP luck!!!  Will check back 5 years from now!!

some of us are young, we can afford these risks Smiley
2008  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: August 03, 2013, 11:25:33 PM
PayPal has hinted about this in videos months ago, the logic for a such a move is sound, the guy talks better than I would be able to fake about PayPal and lines up with what has been happening recently, he is offering to take wagers and post pic of access badge, and Vladamir knew about the ETF before it was announced and he has started his Country Gold Parity parties again......

Fuck it, I think it's happening. My fiat is on the move...

I've always wanted to follow an age-old trading maxim.

so here I am, buying on rumor, (maybe) selling on news

I'm not sure if Paypal / Ebay is so forward looking.

The cynical me suggests I would go borrow all kinds of money and sweep up all the bitcoins I can find if I really do have the inside scoop.  After all, no one would know this 'insider' trade and there's no criminal punishment either.

we've talked about this for years. first mover advantage to the first large entity that embraces bitcoin

unreal. it'd be of no cost to them to do so, and worth all the possible benefits, especially the benefit of protecting their business model from this disruptive tech. hell, they'd likely have resources that would realize bitcoin's success

2014  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-07-31 Is it Litecoin's time to shine? Investors flocking to Bitcoin on: August 03, 2013, 10:08:29 PM
Is a PRNews piece, which you have to pay to get placed on, really worthy material for the "Press" section? Isn't this just a variant on paid product placement?

no. yes.

Assuming the OP made his purchases relatively soon after posting here, he's done pretty well already. With no payments due for a few years at least, it makes leveraged BTC purchases using student loans look like a good deal.

No, it still looks very very stupid.

If worst comes to worst they can leave the country, and their bad debts will just be another drop in the ocean of the malpurposed and unrepayable government-backed student loan debts.

If small players take it to 106 and not more, then we are in the 5th part of a type 5 Elliot wave.
If big players take it to 110 - 112, then we are in the 1st part of a type 5 Elliot wave.

i like dattttt

C'monnnn slow grind, because ain't nobody got time for another ABC corrective trend

chodpaba is one of they few fellow traders who I expect to be pretty wealthy by now, but the way he posts now it seems it got to his head. (Sorry dude!)

Oh, no no no. I'm just looking out for my interests and that of my fellow jungle creatures. Strictly a 'good shepherd'.  Roll Eyes

my first Bitcoin purchase was the result of a University tuition refund from taking excess loans. tybg
