20041  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon pursuing 7nm technology on: May 21, 2018, 03:09:53 AM
It stops making sense when the buyer refuses to buy it.

Also, why the hell would you root for a megacorp happily ripping off a billion people?

Why do you think I am rooting for this?

Avalon says  they are shifting and expanding from traditional sha 256 mining in their prospectus  they want a bigger base for asic chips.

I figure since 200,000,000 million tv sets were sold for the last 7 years  they may want to go in that direction.

It is their prospectus that said they want more then traditional sha 256 miners not me.

I spent a long time reading it and I thought they may try chips in a tv.
I also know samsung has now made a fairly decent chip and might want to put it in their tvs.
I am looking at this from the viewpoint of the companies not from the viewpoint of  a miner.

For me as a miner I am stuck until buysolar expands on his solar fields. No new gear will really mean a thing until I get more power at a good price.  But Avalon said they are looking to expanding their field of gear.
I could think they will make a new chip for say LTC or SIA but I don't think so.  So what is something in every country  hmmm tvs' are all over the place. So I thought this could happen.

While I did  see the GPU reboot back in 2016 and made some money I did not see the gpu collapse this year. Now that I have expanded my view of mining a bit and Avalon has stated they want to  expand beyond asics for mining btc I thought they may want to do this.
Just a guess on my part. I don't want to underestimate them or other asic companies as they did more then I thought was possible. With asics in the last 10 months.

4% is high and 5000 for an fpga is high .  It creates economic barriers.
My position is I want 1000 or 2000 or 3000 coins.
Why this creates a big market for traders.
Why is that good for miners
Traders create demand for coins
Why is that good
Coins become more valuable which makes mining worth while.
So there have been more then 500,000,000 gpus sold since the the hd7900 series
They can all run some profit. Under correct setups.
even if ½ are in the hands of big farms
even if ¼ are in the hands of small to medium guys like me 10 to 500 gpus
that means ¼ or 125,000,000 gpus are in 1 and 2 card builds all over the world.

If fpga is fully successful it will kill off all those small setups.
IF it really works well some guy will try to blend it with a specialty asic and kill off fpga's

I will certainly look at the thread but I am not going to chase it.

BTW my 1080tis mining zec are up to 3 bucks a day

https://www.nicehash.com/miner/16yLHLoeyuCLPMXkVpC3gyrRYvwRGwjKJr

6 cards earned 34.53 in 2 days

That's a good point:  miners not only explore and trade other coins, they grow the entire ecosystem by dragging in friends, family, neighbors.  The more participation, the more prices can rise which supports mining.

But the FPGA thing seems to be happening whether we like it or not - spend some time on the Discord channel and see who else is hanging out.   I stayed away from ASICs for a long time.  That, of course, had no effect on the decisions of others.  We will just have to see where coin developers go.

Many coins  that exist to mine where only good because they let you use a gpu.

I have a degree in accounting my wife has a 2x degree in economics and accounting.
We are both concerned that  asics and fpga's  will shrink  coins from  the current

 https://coinmarketcap.com/

1000 plus  I think 1593  to be exact.

That many coins create a lot of trading opportunities
20044  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A3 bitmain - new coin? on: May 21, 2018, 12:10:30 AM
to asic builders killing off a coin is no big deal.

this thread has April and May links not sure about the oem (march firmware).
20046  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon pursuing 7nm technology on: May 21, 2018, 12:06:01 AM

Yeah I know 150gh needs a long time to make 75 bucks. but this is going to happen .

OR - or - you could make a $200 miner with TEN chips in it, and get ten times the hashrate for three times the money and it'd be a lot more likely to pay itself off in less than the entire service lifetime of your television.

Also how many of those 1 Billion TVs have internet connection? How many were cut-rate bargain models from Wal-Mart that can't afford decent components for essential innards, let alone the expense of add-on gimmicks? And how many people could be convinced to pay up the butt for add-on gimmicks with approximately zero value added, and zero fun interactive features to use as the excuse?

I won't say that nobody will do it, because someone will probably do it. But I will keep saying, like I've been saying for years, that the economics make zero sense. I may not know a lot about smart TVs and the whims of the general populace (who are, statistically, idiots) but you gotta admit I know a bit about the economics of small-scale miners. And it doesn't make sense.

I never said it made sense for the buyer.

I said it makes sense for samsung Grin
20047  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Samsung confirms they’re developing ASIC’s on: May 20, 2018, 10:15:48 PM
As an example - Antminer's Scrypt router (R4?) - which has never earned even close enough to pay for it's cost premium over other devices with no mining in them that have similar performance, much less it's total cost, and at THIS point I think it might be underwater on cost of running the mining chip vs income unless you have FREE electric.

that is because they seriously overcharged for it

the t1 chip which samsung built for  halong/inno_silicon

does 16000 gh pushed in a dragonmint

it does 13500 gh at a relaxed speed.

That chip cost under 5 bucks.
Based on 192 x 5 = 960 and black fri price was 1500 for gear

A Samsung smart tv 50 inch costs 749

It has internet
It has a cpu

So a pcb with the chip and a heat sink is cheap under 10

Maybe they bump price to 800

And it mines 70gh using 7 watts.

Does it ever earn 50 bucks . It does not matter as this is a way to put blockchain in the hands of Sony Samsung LG etc.

I see this happening based on 1.4 billion tvs sold worldwide since 2011

It isn't a question of compatibility with coins but whether mining pools choose to add a few lines of code to support it.
No, not that simple: It is a matter of the pool operators first having access to a miner to test the changes on their pool using Testnet .We are talking FINANCIAL software after all and all pools have their own tweaked hardware/software setups. Only a fool would make ANY changes without first testing the changes before taking it live.

Halong of course has done NOTHING to aid that process so the pool operators need users to lend the miners to them. Once the users finally get their miners delivered that is...

I helped bitminter get the pool working with btc and nmc.

I even earned as we hit 1 block of nmc and btc.

I offered to help any pool with loan of a t1.

Only bitminter asked for me to point my machine to them.

We now have f2pool, ckpool , solo ckpool, slush, bitminter, Kano soon.
20050  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon pursuing 7nm technology on: May 20, 2018, 04:40:50 PM
Fuck miners my Samsung tv can run the entire block chain.

Not quite true.
But 1 billion TV sets were sold from 2011 to 2015.

Take the usb stick sidehack makes the 1 chip one does not need a fan.

So heat is zero issue. Slap a passive heatsink inside a 50 inch tv and boom heat is solved .

Smart TVs have internet hook up solves that issue.  A rasp pi is more then enough to control the chip.

Smart TVs have built in CPUs .

So internet cost is already in a smart tv
Controller is already in a smart tv
I only need a chip added.
Avalon chip right now can do 130 gh at 13 watts.

If the 7nm does 150 gh at 9 watts my idea is viable.

Cost for a tv company with a deal for Avalon to integrate a chip is going to be under 100 usd.
Maybe under 50. So cost passes to customer. Maybe 75.

Yeah I know 150gh needs a long time to make 75 bucks. but this is going to happen .

Or not I have been wrong many times.

44.25 in 2 days

22/8 = $2.75 a card per day

My 2x 1080ti rig   is on an obscure coin  it earned $30.50 since

the 15th or 6 a day or 3 per card.
so the 16 x 1080tis  earn about 45 a day

I self modded the thread. I will simply delete nasty attacks on each other about the good or bad of asics vs gpus vs fpgas.

I want focus to be on how to survive the shift.
...
My position is the industry needs to be widespread as possible to create demand for coins.

This year I am no longer focusing on what gear to use.

But how to expand my cheap reliable power.
...

....
So if there are pioneers here on the FGPA wagon, would love to hear their insights over the next few months.

well  there is the fpga thread
...

Couldn't you say that about a lot of miners though?  Any miner with a dev fee "never ends."  Seeing the posts of everyone complaining int SP_'s thread really just proves there is not a good solution;  People complain even more when he charges up front with no dev fee.  In this scenario I believe the dev fee will actually incentive the dev to keep the project going.  He doesn't get paid unless the cards are profitable.  Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.  I'm hoping this won't become mainstream Smiley

@Philipma

A very generous member of Kano Pool,  finally ,received his Dragonmint. He is working with Kano on implementing the code for Kano's Pool. This should add an additional Pool to the list of options.

good this will mean six pools will have it.

kudos to kano and to the guy lending the gear

I'm late to the party, but very glad to see the thread continue.  I like the idea of focusing on how to lower power costs (solar, tweaks).  I also see another round for home/smallish miners based on the FGPA threads.  Costs more to enter the game than it used to, but avoids the, 'I bought a Bitmain toaster than doesn't actually make $800 a day.'

So if there are pioneers here on the FGPA wagon, would love to hear their insights over the next few months.

I use rxOC(linux)

I have used nvOC

not sure what  rxOC  is stabilitywise.

but  the only way to test is with another  os.

your voltage/power creep  seems wrong.

I did have it happen often with win 7 and msi afterburner  or win 10 and msi afterburner.

the msi afterburner settings would drop and boom  full power used on the rigs.
20056  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU miner pulls 40% more power after 20 minutes on: May 19, 2018, 02:35:29 PM
Do you use windows 10?

Sometimes  it drops  all power settings and just draws top power.

If you use  smos  ie simplemining  you can clock  from any pc in the world and the setting tends to be stable power wise.

It looks like I have my first DragonMint card failure... card stats look like this...

#   Hash Rate   Status   Accepted Rejected   HW   Temperature
1   528.86 GH/s   Alive   23/0   13274   87 ℃
2   5.30 TH/s   Alive   273/2   7839   76 ℃
3   5.33 TH/s   Alive   281/0   6084   77 ℃

How is the repair process at Halong?  Can anyone comment on what i should do and your thoughts on the repair process?

Thanks,
Steve

BTW - i have loaded the latest firmware and rebooted.  Stats still look like the above.

Contacted myrig support via email told them that I had a bad controller.  They gave me the address to send to.  Shipped them just the controller and received a new one within 10 days of my shipment date to them.  Real fast service.  I ordered a total of 55 T1 miners, this was the only control board issue I’ve had.  I just received my myrig power supplies so I’m heading to my data center next week to plug them all in (currently plugged into bitmain power supplies).  I suspect that I have one bad miner up there, but it could be a power supply issue.  I’ll troubleshoot and attempt to load different firmware until I get one that sticks.

I have found  for my five  try low speed and middle speed on multiple firmwares it has so far always (fingers crossed) work on the one t1 with a weak board.

I realized I gave 0.002 btc not 0.003 btc

LTC: LQZpb8AqbggUmsdPKr28DzdNcRP7MJ8kEf

BTC: 1LeA29mLjTFCyB5J6Yiq4TFtAck2VDPUZf

LTC:LX5vpxrQE4eLRLPobKwZhw2comkKFCh3p4

BTC:14w9Lea6kdVzspJk8TQRe7qSYu9LhzJJsh      I sent to here

@ jstefanop  are all above addresses good?

I just sent 0.0022 from profile wallet

https://blockchain.info/tx/5680de333a1efaac0e660aab6030ceb5bcf141614d8bf65cd12a0769840e7bde

and I did send  0.002 from coinbase

https://blockchain.info/tx/9401c0ee31116b421b1e6204bbadba2f576e39ad72f0d10a9f1eade9efdffb3c

So 0.0042 btc total

 will be saving 12 x 100 = 1200 watts   that is over 850 k-watts a month. that is 85 dollars at 10 cents

I will send to you again in June.

so I was checking donations made or at least deposits made

https://blockchain.info/address/1LeA29mLjTFCyB5J6Yiq4TFtAck2VDPUZf

0.01412 btc since may 7

https://blockchain.info/address/14w9Lea6kdVzspJk8TQRe7qSYu9LhzJJsh

0.0042 btc since may 8

https://live.blockcypher.com/ltc/address/LQZpb8AqbggUmsdPKr28DzdNcRP7MJ8kEf/

.2762 ltc  last 10 days

https://live.blockcypher.com/ltc/address/LX5vpxrQE4eLRLPobKwZhw2comkKFCh3p4/

0.0633 ltc last 10 days

so

0.0183 btc =  150 usd

0.3395 ltc =    45 usd

so he has received a max of 195 usd in donations.

Consider that this software saves  me about 100 watts a miner  and I have 12 miners  = 1200 watts  = about 30 kwatts a day or 3.00usd a day at 10 cent a kwatt.

that is 90 a month.  I gave him .0042 btc or 35 usd so far.

If I could code this  I would want a few more then the 195  for the ltc alone.

So I think he will not be rushing to do more for us. @ op I will send you 0.0058 soon  which will be 0.0100 total  and that will equal 1 month of my power savings.

If people want D3 or A3  you could those him more coin.

Be sure to send to his address in his op  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3546316.msg36338080#msg36338080

Yeh needs to be asics miner not just asics in general. Give us an update when it is confirmed as asics miner.

They made the t1 asic chip fact.

It is in the Halong dragonmint
It will be in the innosilicon t2.

They may not have designed the chip but their chip foundry cut the wafers.

I think they will be putting in 1 chip in their TV sets sooner or later.
20060  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon pursuing 7nm technology on: May 19, 2018, 04:11:40 AM
Good luck selling a billion TVs. Are there even a billion households in the world with electricity, internet and TV signal available?

I would not pay a dime extra for a fancy new TV just because it can mine me a nickel a year or whatever. The parts cost of that integration would probably outweigh the revenue generated, by a long shot, even without power draw, but you know the TV manufacturer would put the cost onto the customer. Profitable for the chip manufacturer, probably profitable for the TV manufacturer, not profitable for the TV purchaser.

Been saying it for years, and nothing's changed my mind yet, that dropping single mining chips into whatever the heck electronics is a bad idea.

Because you are not Samsung.

Let’s see they made a working chip for Halong the t1.

As I understand it they used their own foundry.

Most of the TVs they make are smart TVs with an internet connection.

I simply ask are the questions above all yes for the answer .

Yes .   So how on earth are they not going to do what I suggest?

Btw it is why asics are not so secure since Sony Samsung or someone will do the above.

I just looked at a Samsung 55 inch smart tv 4K price 759. Uses 65watts

So drop in  7nm from Avalon that can do 150 gh at 9 watts. Price the tv at 950 .  You may not want it but a lot will.  Plus every tv will have it.

Avalon cuts a deal with Lg
Bitmain cuts a deal with some Chinese tv
Innosilicon - Halong cuts a deal with Samsung
GMO cuts a deal with Sony

Most likely canaan has a deal lined up with a tv company.  Which is why they are going public.

I found. Stats that show from 2011 to 2015 more then 1 billion sales of TVs happened
