I'm not sure Darkcoin is a pump. The volume is in the thousands of BTC daily.
My first thought/intuition when I saw Darkcoin at .005 a few weeks back was this "Hmmm, I think this coin might be a prime way of laundering stolen bitcoins. It also might attract people who want more anonymity, not to mention it sounds cool."

If this is a pump, it is a pump with LOTS of money behind it. I haven't followed prior pumps before, and am not sure of the BTC volume, but 3,000 or 4,000 bitcoins a day is a fairly large volume. Doable for sure.

Previous pumps have had similar volumes. Blackcoin volumes on Mintpal were over 8000 BTC at its peak.
20102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple is on its way D O W N..... on: May 23, 2014, 09:56:06 PM
I've no idea how the idea of XRP as an investment took hold. If Ripple functions well then I was under the impression XRP was purely to be the grease that allowed the transactions to flow.

Disclaimer - I still can't wrap my head around any aspect of how Ripple actually works.
20103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is that it for Darkcoin? on: May 23, 2014, 09:45:06 PM
Thank you for all the replies, even you ifightformerkel, i appreciate the advice.
I just thought no pain, no gain...no risk, no payoff, right? i want to make our lives better NOW, not 10 years from now. its hard to wait.
Well yes i learned a lesson, im not a gambler. i cant do this.

Whilst I had lots of fun being repeatedly raped by a succession of pump and dumps, in the end I decided it's just too unpredictable. By the time the rise is catching people's attention the chances are that it's on the verge of being over. Not always by any means, but very likely.

I resolved to only get in on the very ground floor of any alt. I got a stake of NEM and NXTL/Node. Who knows if they'll go places, I'm very confident about NEM, but my total outlay is $40 which I can happily see the back of and might just end up being money very well gambled.

Time spent looking for stuff under the radar is much more productive than fretting about whether you're on top of the wave that everyone else is riding. You need to detach from the herd and seek opportunities out on your own.

20104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 23, 2014, 09:14:26 PM

Didn't they pass a solvency audit prior to the fall of Gox?

Yes and no. The audit was released in I think March or Feb but the actual audit was done in November. Besides you still have to trust the auditor. (Again Im not saying there are any solvency issues)

Wasn't it Andreas? Apologies, on phone with low battery so can't search to find the details.

He popped into Coinbase and sniffed around a bit.
20105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is that it for Darkcoin? on: May 23, 2014, 08:57:11 PM
I'm freaking out because it's not going back up, you know it, i know it. It's like they said, its just a pump and dump.
And I got taken. Yah I needed to learn this lesson like I need a hole in my head.
I put everything I had because I heard all the stories, because everyone said its the biggest steady rise since bitoin, a lot of people made a lot of money with this coin. But I lost. Hope you all enjoy taking the milk from my baby's bottle, I'm finished with this.

I wanted to get in and get out and put it back in bitcoin. but then it dropped and i waited, and it dropped more, and i still waited. Im still waiting, i cant accept this. i dont want to sell it. i dont know what to do, if I can get .0269 for it, at least i can break even. i cant afford a loss like this.

You're only down 10% or so. That sucks but it's hardly the end of the world.
20106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is that it for Darkcoin? on: May 23, 2014, 08:56:10 PM
nobody knows what to do, maybe it go up or it go down very hard this night (-50%)

i lost about 17 btc buying mazacoin at the peak.  Grin

Every time I look at Mazacoin's price I have a small chuckle. I bought in at 17000 Satoshis and sold at 290.
20107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is that it for Darkcoin? on: May 23, 2014, 08:53:09 PM
The only people who can tell you that will be the very last to share the information. And buyers like you are what they're counting on.

Haven't you noticed the same script being played out on here over and over again?

New coin launches. Massive rise in value. Everyone talks about it dethroning BTC within in a few weeks. 'It's different this time.' 'New paradigm.' Coin flops. No one still holding the coin can wrap their head around it.

I've never put more than half a per cent of what I've put into BTC into any alt so far. You've only lost a small percentage. If you're not comfortable with it then you can sell now and live for another day with a lesson learnt.
20108  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 23, 2014, 07:49:22 PM
Regarding Bitstamp issues - there hasn't been widespread confirmation that this is happening, and the news materialising on a Friday afternoon (GMT) just before a bank holiday from a freshly created reddit accounts adds to the suspicions. If Bitstamp had reasonable grounds for concern why would they allow the BTC transfer but not the fiat? It could just be an isolated case or some fabricated FUD. Although unlike the traditional FUD this would boost the BTC price.

This has been going on for months and lots of people have been reporting it. I dunno why it's getting feathers ruffled now. I'll be taking my business elsewhere regardless.
20109  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which is the most liquid btc marketplace in UK? on: May 23, 2014, 06:03:52 PM
It don't exist. All the recent attempts at exchanges have had volumes of about 5 BTC per day and been priced way above localbitcoins. Britain's a bitcoin desert for now.

Just wait til the Govt start to sell off the 122k coins that it took from Russ Ulbricht. The Govt and Russ have already made an agreement that they would sell off the coins and then fight for the cash later.  Im hoping that they sell to a private investor and not just dump 122k coins at once.. If the govt sells this like they normally do, with auctions, then we should be okay, but can someone do the math and see what would happen if they just dumped 122k all at once? I would assume even if they sold on the exchanges that they would do it very slowly, but we should keep an eye on that wallet.. the day that wallet starts to move is the day we should worry..

They've already had several public offers to buy the whole amount. I guess that might change if BTC reaches 90 gerbillion per coin before they're ready to sell.

Any links to the above?

Thanks for the info...

Here's one of them http://www.businessinsider.com/falcon-global-capital-offers-to-buy-the-fbis-bitcoins-2014-2

Not so fast. If you take mah87 and take out some letters and add some new ones you get - Jed Mccaleb.
20113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What best coin to invest? on: May 21, 2014, 02:19:59 AM

My bets are:
NXTL
NEM
hmm... DRK
I have some post in the signature.

I believe on NXTL, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=590421.0 the IPO will it until May 25, will last longer than 1 month ensuring wider distribution!
NXTL is 100% premined coin and distribute to all members, right?
why we must pay 0.03 BTC for membership fee?
if i pay 0.03 BTC, how many NXTL will i get?

In my opinion NXTL seems to me like a scam. They closed the IPO here and opened a new thread outside btt. in btt there is no sign anymore.
SO...

It's still out there but has gone pretty quiet. It seems the mods here shut down several threads.

It would be exactly the same as the current gift cards that plenty of places already do. Nothing to see here.

My guess is when the Gox and China effects have faded or leveled off at least and there's a big, fat shiny exchange in the US that functions perfectly. The latter part of the year gets my vote. There's a lot of trauma to put to bed.

Looking forward to it. The project has been buried in these forums somewhat. It took me a while to find this thread. Maybe it's needed to get out there with a little reminder.
20118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] about NEM New Economy Movement (everyone should take 30 seconds) on: May 20, 2014, 06:16:53 PM
I am so disappointed to the NEM Sad Sad

Why? Because it's taking too long? I'd prefer the developers to get it right out of the blocks.

It's a slow burn compared to most coins but they're definitely organising it in an impressive manner.
20119  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2014, 05:40:01 PM
Yes be wary of LTC, it hasnt got much going for it anymore and one of the pools has also been flickering around 50% has rate for a few days as well.

Can you explain?
Never really saw the point in LTC, but what's different now?

A million billion alts. Some of them have sexier features and more enthusiasm behind them. Then again perhaps LTC is the grand old man that'll stay standing once all the others are dust.
20120  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is driving the price crazily up???? on: May 20, 2014, 05:28:01 PM
Did someone type in the price incorrectly? I suppose it was that, since it's only BitStamp that's this high. BTC-E is at $481.

BTC-E is alwais 10-11$ cheaper. I don't know why.  Undecided

It's a real pain up the arse to get dollars into compared to the other exchanges. That might account for a price difference.
