20121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: May 12, 2018, 04:16:12 AM
So far I've only lost (1) APW3++ power supply - a fairly new one (weeks old).  Might have been to heat, might not, but the Avalons are hanging in there.  I am running with option:

--avalon8-voltage-level-offset -1

Which is reported to help with heat at the cost of a small bit of performance.

- -avalon8-voltage-level -1
—avalon8-voltage-level -2
—avalon8-voltage-level -3
—avalon8-voltage-level -4
- -avalon8-voltage-level -5

All work and allow safe running in a hot room.

They all drop hash and watts try -3 or -4
20122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My review of Avalon 841 . on: May 11, 2018, 11:57:21 PM
I got some more avalon 841 in and a sorcerer psu  and will do a few tests with them.

############################################################
############################################################
watts 1279
hash  12654
temp © 32/72
fans  100%

room temp 82f

but gear is near an ac vent which highs to cool off gear.

more options setting is below
--avalon8-voltage-level -1

time of test is 1h 24m 53s

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

More Options setting of next test is
--avalon8-voltage-level -5

this is the lowest test I have tried to date
watts 1012
hash ---------waiting for hash rate to settle in
temp © 30/67
fans 81%
room temp 82f

time will do at least 1 hr

the - 5  setting seems to be as low as I can clock
full size images

hash 8500
watts 950
temp© 29 / 65
fans 61%
room temp
time  9h 6m 12s

I took some photos of this test bed setup note room is 83f but it is taken on top of a tv setup and reads high.  I placed the psu to get cooling from an ac vent.

watts 950

temp is at 6 foot height about 9 feet away from gear

gear note corsair ax1500i psu

note ac vent which does push some cool air towards psu

8500 using 950 watts is about 0.111 watts a gh the point of tests like this is to show work arounds it means you could use any 1200 watt atx psu in a pinch even with 120 volt power.
it also allows for use in a hot space during the summer.
this gear should not have overheating issues at this setting if you area to mine is fan cooled  and runs warm in the summer  this setting should work for you.

here are the five under clocks  that work for me

--avalon8-voltage-level -1
--avalon8-voltage-level -2
--avalon8-voltage-level -3
--avalon8-voltage-level -4
--avalon8-voltage-level -5   lowest numbers      8500 hash at 950 watts runs very cool

the 2 below did weird shit and acted like overclocks not under clocks
--avalon8-voltage-level -6
--avalon8-voltage-level -8

Is this scam or real?
https://asicminer.co/shop/asicminer-equihash
I saw it somebody post it on the zcash forums:
https://forum.z.cash/t/let-s-talk-about-asic-mining/27353/1906
At first glance it seemed like a scam to me, but a few people over there say it's for real, they have sha256 too.

Before I ever get into "nitty gritty calculatoions" on what to buy, I take a quick gander here:

https://www.asicminervalue.com/opportunities

I don't think ASICMINER's sha256 rigs will ever ROI ( Break Even). That Equihash rig might - but it's way too high risk for me.

The only rigs I've bought  so far this year are 1x Baikal X10 and 1x L3+.

nice website for an idea but info is off.  the avalon  is about 1200 now. not 2000.  It needs to be updated

This forum attracts spam and shit posts  due to the simple fact money is made from cryptocoins.

First suggestion  is rename  to cryptocointalk.org   it may be for sale.

Frankly the alt coin  = every coin but BTC  is  a limiting concept.

It is not hard to explain on a YouTube video with visual props.

It is harder to explain writing on a post format.

I think he is basically asking what is the current ramp up time?

about 50 days

ramp up  time is 5x  a 100% block  a 100% block is about 4,200,000,000,000 shares

our pool does that in about 10 days

so  if the first 10 days of mining you are ramping up from 0 to 20%
the 10 to 20 day time period you are ramping up from 20 to 40%  of a full share
the 20 to 30 day time period you are ramping up from 40 to 60% of a full share
the 30 to 40 day time period you are ramping up from 60 to 80% of a full share
the 40 to 50 day time period you are ramping up from 80 to 100% of a full share.

Thx jstefanop.
Testing my ten L3+ with lowest voltage (0xfe). Currently running 400 frequency.

Can this set frequency for each board individually?
for example :
board 1,2,3 running very smooth on 450 frequency & voltage 0xc0 with less HW
board 4  cant go over 400 no mater how high is voltage (0x30) , too much HW (error every sec)

No since tuning voltage and frequency for each board is redundant and way more complicated than it needs to be. You just choose a frequency you want to run, and then tune the voltage on each board. Sounds to me like you have a faulty board....there are some boards that will just produce more errors regardless of what voltage/frequency you set (i.e. some chips just have logic defects that will produce errors even if the frequency/voltage is low/high enough).

Copy that. I got few faulty boards that must run on 384 freq or below.
I will try philipma1957 's advice to swap those faulty boards.

Thanks.

And run them gentle like freq 359 with lowest volts

Why my derp is too low? It's only 0.00056585
DragonMint T1.
~16.1 TH/s for 3 days.
Pool shows only 14.5 TH in a day. But ASIC works on ~16.1 TH/s all these days.
On other pools my reward ~0.001 in a day.
What's wrong with this?

this pool requires you to stay put to get full shares.

3 days are nowhere long enough to get a full share.

we have enough hash to make 3 blocks in a month.

or a block every 10 days.  5 blocks in 50 days.

once you mine for that long your shares will be full.

3 days is 3/50 or 6%  so your shares are only 6% of what they will become.

note all of the above presumes your hash stays at 1 T1 and the pool stays around 20 ph.
20131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 11, 2018, 12:17:45 AM
I think people are living a fantasy if they think any of this is decentralized.  If it runs on GPU's the big money has access to GPU's and puts up massive farms.  If there are ASIC's the big money orders massive numbers of ASIC's and puts up massive farms.  Big money is going to control the networks with the current POW or even POS coins.

That is why I find it interesting that some people are starting to think outside the box about the topic of decentralization, and not about the tools of the trade.  Overall that is a positive thing and it will be interesting to see what the brain trust in the community comes up with.

about 400,000,000 million gpus  can mine coins at a profit

even if ½ are on big farms and ¼ are on small farm  that means at least 100 million pcs across the world can mine at a profit. and at least 50 companies sell pcs or gpus with 1 year to 3 year warranties
that is decentralized .

1 asic seller or 1 asic sellers  selling gear designed to break in under a year is not decentralized.  and if ½ go to big guys ¼ to smaller guys and ¼ go to little people with 1 or 2 asics you simply kill off customer base.

It is easy to justify buying a pc  for 2k that earns 2 bucks a day while you sleep.  no gpu mining you buy a shit pc  for 500 or less.

Asics did not make 2017  the best year in mining profits gpus did.

I sold off some more gpus.

Still have 18 1080tis left  I did buy a lot of LTC3+  I will not buy any asic on a coin being attacked. such as z9

I rathe use btc asic or ltc asic gear.

If I believe in a coin such as zcash I would buy some coins .

I will chime in it can give multiple voltage for each board.

Not mutilple freq.

So this means you can choose  freq 400 knowing the three boards are under tasked or choose say 425 and tossing lots of errors on the poor board

btw don't volt the bad board that high you will just burn it out.

personally i would swap it to a different L3+  but if you have 1 l3+ that is not an option.

I would assume when Frodocooper logs in next they will clean it up. They haven't been on in nearly 24 hours.

They do tend to go through the section with a fine toothed comb; and have corrected more for less.

Well done drawing attention to it.

Update  it was deleted.

@ op

I would love to answer your pool but your choices are very limited.

Asics are being used to attack gpu coins.

I see that as do the rest of us.

So now the equihash algo is under attack.  By maybe two different asic miners.

So the leading coin is zcash and they are dancing bobbing and weaving around do we fork or not fork.

I would say he should not decide or tell anyone what he will do.
Then when the gear from bitmain ships he should fork and make the announcement that they won’t fork a second time if new asics are made.

Then in six months when some asic builder attacks zcash2 with asic2. He should fork again saying I changed my mind.  And I now have three algos ready for any new asics attacking zcash3.

This is a war asics against gpus.

And gpus losing the war means death for all coins in the long run.  It goes far beyond zcash.

Cryptocoins best year ever was 2017 and gpus were the driving force.

Not asics.  Then in 2018 gpus were shut down by gpu builders prices got jacked asics mined coins on the sneak.

All the gpu networks grew in Jan feb mar yet not many gpus were sold.  So zcash leaders should not be standup transparent deadly  honest.  Then need to bust a move that hurts the. Users of Equihash ASICs more then your pole.

Then need to keep us guessing.

Thanks for your input phil.  poll is not aimed at trying to get zec co to do anything, its aimed at letting miners know they are scum.

As is the attack on gpu mining  by asic builders.

The most successful year ever  2017  was on the back of gpu mining  and the asic builders attack the gear that  created that success.

Do I think zcash is a bad coin do i think they are scum?  I did see your youtube video.  It makes a good case.  I will wait and see what zcash really does before I decide they are scum or a clever fighter of the asic attacks on them..
20135  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint T1 16TH/S halongmining.com on: May 10, 2018, 05:18:30 AM
Long term reliability could make the t1 better even if they don’t break often.

Of 22 s9 purchased from batch 1 up to last dec2017 I had about 10 boards and two controllers die.

Time wise that would be just under 22 months time.

So in 22 months if no boards die the t1 looks better.

Btw the t1 now has caused bitmain to offer more firmware control over your gear.

That came after ck did firmware here giving three speed settings and I mentioned that made the t1 a viable choice over the s9.

So all owners of s9s now have access to better firmware.  As of April of 2018.

I am sure those that use it won’t be donating to ck or Halong but fact is that is what happened.

20138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: who bought bitmain Z9 will face a big issues now on: May 10, 2018, 04:26:55 AM
ASICs increase network speed. Increased network speed leads to a more secure network.

they increase network hashrate, not speed.  Nothing but the design of the coin and block time scheme effect the speed of coins generated/transacted.

to increase the network speed; you must remove transport overhead and other associated data.....

Adding a S9 to the BTC network doesn't speed it up at all... it just adds to nethash and block diff requirements....

If there was a way to limit nethash;  then you would be onto something useful in your conceptual goal.

ASICS become paperweights.

If your notion that ASICS are good overall;  you are sorely mistaken IMHO.

And Ill quote my original reply from this thread many pages earlier:

the real fix I can see for this is:
someone needs to come up with a hashrate stabilized way of mining the algo;  how this can be done purely client-side:  we need to brainstorm.

SSL uses timestamps;  maybe we can figure out some sort of deal like this to give an overall hashrate impact on result difficulty requirement.

I.E.  After X hashrate, your diff increases to offset to be a virtual  X hashrate.  This type of scheme, can be made to force out high hashrate devices but mainly pools in general.

*snip*

There are solutions to "anti-asic".  people need to "think 4th dimensionally" and consider the objective not the mathamatics side;  because the math is what the asic is good at.    Make the "meta"; the way of obtaining the result: the anti-asic strategy itself instead of the algo's individual mathematic calculations.

food for thought.

*snip*

This is it in a nutshell when I started Mining btc network was 21,000gh

My 21gh was 1/1000 of the entire network.

We made blocks at 144 a day on average just like we do with 30,000,000,000gh

I would need 30,000,000 gh to have 1/1000 of the network.

The network would be just as secure with 21,000gh in gpus if growth was capped to 1% per jump.

51% attacks would be stopped.

So many ways to do well in this game.  Other then asics.

More then 100,000,000 PCs have a gpu that makes money if it mines.

Why destroy the easiest way to get mass adaptation of crypto.

Only hope is newer coins and algos that allow gpus to earn money and spread adaption of cryptocoins.
20139  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 10, 2018, 02:13:30 AM
13.5 THs at wall is about 1550 W measured.

You must be using are really inefficient power supply if those numbers are what you are really seeing.

I run thousands of these things. A 13.5 TH s9 with a good PSU draws 1360-1390 watts at the plug.

APW3++

What is your room temp?

What is your voltage?

A hot room and lower voltage like 220 vs 240.

Will affect that psu.
