Post only long and quality posts, because if you spam the forum you can get banned and lose your money maker.

Small addition here. If you get banned you not only lose your account, but also you as a person are no longer welcome here. Evading your ban will prolong your ban or even make it permanent. Spam is the most common reason to get banned. You have been warned.
2022  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoin Transactions are <$100 on: April 03, 2016, 08:09:10 PM

Why would you want to track only the transaction <$100 ?

Probably as an argument for or against micro payments. Payments over 100 USD are certainly not micro payments, thus an answer to the question could be an argument in a discussion.
2023  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can a newb get some helpq on: April 03, 2016, 08:06:25 PM
Look I know this is probably dumb to you guys but I just started this week ago and last night I sent my blockchain to coinbase just to test out sending my first time and it's taking forever bc it's small I think but I'd like to no if it will go threw or what's going to happen and future advice all is welcome thanks guys and sorry for the dumb post.
The is the link
https://blockchain.info/address/15bU6TxAtXo1Bty5UkzAwr8RqGQneyTCab

Welcome. Thats an address, you are probably refering to this[1] transaction. The fee (0.0001 BTC) is fine for the size (225 bytes), the problem is that one of the outputs (the coins send if you will) is considered dust (anything below 2730 satoshi currently) because its only 0.00000009 or 9 satoshi. This makes your transaction get rejected by most nodes of the network.

2024  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: April 03, 2016, 07:54:24 PM
@Wardrick

PS: If you're going to go through my entire thread and delete all my "bumps" that I did not delete, then do it for all the other threads too. I don't care if they're deleted or not, but it pisses me off that these other threads have hundreds of "bumps", while I rarely bump my thread yet it was given more attention than these other people who obviously spam there thread with unneeded replies and bumps. Obviously someone targeted my thread out of competiton, smart move but I can smell the weakness.

if you reported them I'm sure they'll get deleted. not being an asshole or anything but you being mad for mere bumps are a show of weakness. again, not trying to be an asshole.

No, I just get mad when rules are applied to me, while they are not for others. You're probably right that if I went through and reported all of them that they'd be deleted. Someone must have a lot of time on there hands, I don't have the time to do that.

Also moderators do a great job here and it seems to be more of a available resources problem than the mods as it takes a lot of time to go through and delete the bumps if they are not reported. Not a very big deal, but nonetheless maybe an alteration of the rules to better represent forum activity.

Report them. If you see a thread with several unremoved bumps just report one and note that there are other unremoved bumps as well. Complaining here literally takes more time, than writing a single report per thread you encounter anyway.

@SaltySpitoon

Something to add, a pending update on an outdated rule: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134779.0

We really haven't followed that rule in some time, requiring a user to be reputable or be vouched before being able to sell accounts isn't a very ideal method. Based on implied meaning from some comments Theymos has made in the past, the issue isn't with account/invite sellers themselves, its with the possibility that the accounts will be hacked.

We don't care about other company's TOS, but hacking is pretty much globally illegal, and under the no illegal goods rule, hacked accounts are not allowed to be sold here. A few warning signs that accounts are hacked, are the notorious "Don't change the account details" or Log out when you are done, etc lines.

Of course, still waiting on Theymos' clarification on that one, but it was an issue that came up recently and the staff discussed it and gathered info leading us to the conclusion above.

While I like the thought behind it I wonder what will qualify as "reputable".

How did you search? You need to scan from an external system, as advanced malware will circumvent your anti virus software and any software you installed after you have been infected.
2026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it possible to hack your bitcoin from your wallet? on: April 03, 2016, 07:18:38 PM
-snip-
Youd be surprised how many set no password at all. I dont think everyone uses a strong password and some wallets are badly defended against brute force attacks as well.

that is silly, if they are serious and have a good amount of BTC i am sure they will lock it up ,if not its simply a recipe for disaster . have't done any testing in a long time, so dont know about all the wallets . if anyone is serious about collecting BTC ,better have a good encryption and find a good wallet.

The argument is that its more likely to lose bitcoin because of a lost password than it is because of a hack. This might be true for some people, but those are usually also good a remembering passwords.
2027  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Electrum multisig wallet, dringend hilfe gesucht, 100€ belohnung on: April 03, 2016, 05:01:07 PM
Ich könnte mir sowas von in den A treten, es ist offenbar tatsächlich so dass ich ohne die seed keine Chance habe.
also ist jetzt suchen angesagt

2028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ETH] Highlander on: April 03, 2016, 04:52:09 PM
Dear all,

I'd like to present you a new game, "Highlander" !!

Story

Even in your own tribe of immortal savages, you are perceived as one of the bravest. But bravery comes with a cost: to remain immortal and earn the respect of your peers, you have to be undeafeated and unchallendged during 24 hours... If another contestant rises up, you might get beaten to death.

Features (the serious story Wink )

- To became the highlander, you have to be the last one to send ether during the last 24 hours
- If someone sends ether after the 24 hours delay, all the balance (except 5 eth) goes to you
- If someone sends ether before the 24 hours delay, he is the new contestant and has to remain undeafeated during 24 hours
- The cost of becoming a contestant is 5 ETH
- I've already precharged the game

How to enter ?

Send exactly 5 ETH to 0xD361e374bE9e3907FCEAC60c6EA5CbDcE89fC9ae
To send ETH, you have to use the official wallet or use the geth command line
Quote
eth.sendTransaction({from: eth.coinbase, value: web3.toWei(1, 'ether'), to: '0xD361e374bE9e3907FCEAC60c6EA5CbDcE89fC9ae', gas: 250000})

Contract verified : https://etherscan.io/address/0xD361e374bE9e3907FCEAC60c6EA5CbDcE89fC9ae

What is the cost?

Exactly 5 ETH. If it is not (higher or lower), the amount is sent back to the send and the 0.1 fee is not taken

Personal note:
- I hope this game feels different to you than the usual Ponzi Scheme -> go LittleCactus, be a good cactus  )
- There's a kill function which is usable only if the balance of the contract is lower or equal than 5 ETH. I made this to avoid losing the precharged 5 ETH, once someone enter the game, I cannot kill it anymore) -> this is not a fuck-you feature Smiley

WARNING !!

Although the contract code is verified, this is a betting game which means that it doesn't create value. It only redistributes investments according to the scheme.
This might seem to be a game but it's still money you are sending in the end. The creator is not in charge of the holdings, everything is on the blockchain.
Please review the code before investing

Quoted to make the picture appear as was asked here[1]. This is no endorsement of the game. In fact I have doubt that its provably fair.

I'd guess that you're having trouble signing up at/on keybase. Basically, you'll need a keybase invite to signup & use their innovative features in minutes/seconds. You'll have to ask around someone in the forum for the invite (like meh & most of the people).
I dont have any bitcoins on me so how would i get the invite. i need alternatives to keybase.io

2030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: incorrect btc with linux core version 0.12.0 64 bit imort privat key on: April 03, 2016, 02:56:06 PM
ok i see
well the old wallet is still on my win pc
still running
do you sugest i create  the privat keys(plural) again?
and would you be so kind and give me a link where i would find a step by step instruction
becouse it seems i did miss something last time i did the paperwallet

If your old wallet is bitcoin core as well (you didnt answer the question so I have to guess) just copy the wallet.dat from your old machine. On windows you can find it by pressing win + r to open "run" and enter %APPDATA%\Bitcoin. You can also open bitcoin core and click File -> Backup Wallet...

On the linux machine:
make sure core is closed
rename the existing wallet.dat to wallet.dat.backup (or something similar)
and put the copied wallet.dat in its place

you should find the wallet files in ~/.bitcoin
2031  Other / Meta / Re: Any way of getting account's registered email? on: April 03, 2016, 02:12:23 PM
I have this old hardcore account that I forgot password of and can't remember email of it.
If I were to PM admin or something, would they consider letting me know the registered email?
There is no BTC address linked to it that I can verify.

enter the username, you will get a mail. If its one of yours, you should be able to retrieve it.
2032  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcointalk Account price estimator on: April 03, 2016, 02:00:59 PM
This is not accurate ! A newbie account with just 2 posts is marked 0.002 BTC . Its too high for it. That's the payout of signature campaign for posting about 15 posts by a Member account. I think you should edit the algorithm.

With 2 posts you can have a max of 2 activity:

0.0003BTC/activity * 2 = 0.0006

Lets further assume the posts where of "excellent quality"

0.0006 * 1.05 = 0.00063

I dont know how you get to 0.002, but maybe you can help us find out whats wrong by sharing either the user ID of the account in question or the token.
Here is the link to it : http://www.bctalkaccountpricer.info/?token=9iqj024m

User Id: 801896
Name: BTCcryptouser
Posts: 2
Activity: 2 (Newbie)
Potential Activity: 28 (Potential Newbie)
Post Quality: Very Poor
Trust: Neutral
Estimated Price: 0.00427500

Thanks. Looks like its because of the 26 extra potential activity. The price estimate is only very rough though, not sure if it can be fixed while staying this simple

Ways on how to get the password of a user or of an account :

Dictionary Attacks
Bruteforce
Keylogger
Cookies of your websites and etc

So becareful of what your doing, Click at your own risk !

don't make me laugh dictionary attacks and brute force ,are you serious. it will take ages to get into, even with a super computer if you have a good password and everyone does use a strong pass for sure, the other two .keylogger ,malware and cookie hijacks are a reality and it is the easiest way to get into anyone's privacy  Wink

Youd be surprised how many set no password at all. I dont think everyone uses a strong password and some wallets are badly defended against brute force attacks as well.
I think that's not true, because if we use wallet stricken by malware (keylogger) surely they can easily into our wallets and take all the existing funds in the wallet. Because malware (keylogger) is widely used for something negative. For example my Blockhain wallet, once exposed to hack and they do backup all my Bitcoin addres to the wallet, but they haven't had time to take my Bitcoin.

That has nothing to do with what I just wrote. I am talking about wallet files and weak passwords. You talk about keyloggers (in which case the strength of the password does not matter).

btw if you are talking about blockchain.info, say so, there is no single "blockchain wallet", all bitcoin wallets use the blockchain.
2034  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: incorrect btc with linux core version 0.12.0 64 bit imort privat key on: April 03, 2016, 01:47:05 PM
no still does not work

hmmm. doesn't work how exactly? did the client opened or not at all?

i do remember when i erased a file in the appdate when i used windows
then the wallet had to rescan

could i dó that in linux too ? and if so what file would i have to erase ?

I don't know about erasing anything (nor do I think that it's a good idea). but importing a private key will make qt rescan.

but thats what i did at the beginning
i imported private key
and ended up missing btc in the linux wallet
btc i do have in my windows wallet
correct amount
so why is it that the linux shows less ?
is that a bug ?
and a week ago or so i opened my electrum wallet which should show also my btc and it showed less too
thats how i found out about the charger fuction
but should that be shown in a wallet ? and why does it not sum up all the adresses including the charger adress new and show my correct amount of btc ?

Did you import all the private keys from Windows that had balances? Since you say "import private key," not "keys" plural, you may have only imported one. I suspect you may have missed some, perhaps the change addresses. (note that that is plural too).   (Is that what you mean by "charger address"?)

hi
i used always only one adress so it was one private key. so you are right plural. and i dont know how to find the changer adresses

Which wallet did you use before you switch to core? If you did use core previously, what did you do with the old wallet.dat?

i explain what i mean by changer
i see transactions
lets say i recived 10 btc
then i spend 3
and the missing is exactly the 7 that is left from the originaly 10

We know what change addresses are, they have a separate private key. Your old wallet would have had that private key, but since you did not export it the question is what happened to your old wallet.

like the 10 was a note just created for my wallet and when i spend my 3 i get 7 change back
but usualy i dont see that process in my wallet. ( at least never did in the windows core )
now i see the transaction fo the 7 but i dont see the 7 arrive at any of my wallet adresses
so where are they now ?
at blockchain info i see the transactions too

2038  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is it possible to hack your bitcoin from your wallet? on: April 03, 2016, 12:02:30 PM
Just come it to my mind. is it possible? to get hook into your wallet and send some to another wallet? Undecided

Sure, if you use an outdated and vulnerable system that is reachable from the internet. If so, its probably already part of a bot network and adding a key logger would be a simple task once its clear that you have a bitcoin wallet. The next time you enter your password, your coins would be gone. The keylogger is not even needed if you have a weak password.
2039  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Been scammed need to cancel the transaction before it clock logo changes on: April 03, 2016, 08:48:22 AM
If the transaction is already confirmed you can not reverse it. If its not yet confirmed (e.g. because you paid a low fee) there is a chance that you can double spend it. Seeing when you posted this, its probably too late though.
