2021  Economy / Marketplace / Re: i'm glad there are so many scams and frauds on: August 06, 2014, 05:46:32 PM
You have to be really ignorant with no researching and knowledge to fall for phishing sites, e-mail spam etc...

So you are glad that innocent people who are less knowledgeable about internet safety than you are getting scammed?  Huh

It is a 'learning' experience for them.  Smiley

It is kind of like that.
With people getting scammed in hyip/ponzi again and again, users are now more aware of the risk.
With the exchanges that went down with customers' fund, users are now less willing to keep their bitcoin on exchanges.

One of the selling points of bitcoin is the decentralized trust.
You don't have to trust anybody, not the government, not the central bank.
So I see no reason why you should trust exchanges with your bitcoins.
2022  Economy / Lending / Re: Request(BTC loan) on: August 06, 2014, 05:01:30 PM
Bad waste of a Member account, and a terrible fail. Since you are so bad at scamming, I'll give you a tip. Sound like a real human instead of typing like a bot or copy/pasting.

Member accounts are cheap. All it takes is 2 months.  Smiley
2023  Local / Press & News from India / Re: Will interest from Japan and India spark a bitcoin break? on: August 06, 2014, 04:58:22 PM
You missed the point. Satoshi is not Japanese. I was raining sarcasm.

We will have to wait until he reveals himself.  Smiley

May be he is on the forum under different username Tongue

I am sure he is watching all developments closely.
After all, its his baby. Smiley
2024  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a Bitcoin Whale? - The answer is here for the new people on: August 06, 2014, 04:20:27 PM
Watch the Wolf of Wall Street movie, you will see what is a whale and how they behave
I think that movie is a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think most people on Wall Street and who work in finance act like that.

It may not be the norm, but I don't think it was an exaggeration.
2025  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: August 06, 2014, 04:18:55 PM
No seriously you may have asymmetric insider knowledge that gives you confidence it won't crash to zero but given this experiment is still at an early state it should be considered that there is a strong positively of failure.

One shouldn't investment with 100% certainty when the outcome is undetermined.

True. Too many unknown variables.
The path governments take vis-a-vis bitcoin would have a big role to play in determining whether this experiment is a success.
2026  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Argentina the cyprus of 2014? on: August 06, 2014, 04:17:10 PM
Argentina could print pesos to buy dollars to pay back their debts. As they sell more pesos, the value of each peso would decrease so the more they print the less dollars they can buy on a per peso basis.

No country has managed to mint its way out of a crisis.
2027  Economy / Economics / Re: Is 1 bitcoin a decent and good investment? on: August 06, 2014, 04:14:02 PM
If anything, it seems more likely that alt coin improvements will eventually be integrated into bitcoin to make it better.

Ah.... the advantages of open source.
2028  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: August 06, 2014, 04:12:27 PM
How come? Gold price wouldn't fall down below its cost of production, so the only way Bitcoin could be a threat to gold is when gold bugs would transform to Bitcoin butterflies (I preserve all rights on this new mem), which is hardly possible. Wink

Of course gold price can fall down below its cost of production. Mines would shut down then.
Similarly, bitcoin prices can fall down below the cost of electricity consumed.  Wink
2029  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin ever reach $1000 dollars again? on: August 06, 2014, 02:41:09 AM
they will forbid it anyway

This may not be within their powers.  Smiley
2030  Economy / Economics / Re: Here is a real bubble - gold on: August 06, 2014, 02:32:08 AM
Gold is still a good store of value, not necessarily a currency (yes, it WAS currency in the old days).
But people will surely go after btc rather than gold. Why not? One can store $1 million worth of btc just in a USB stick.

The 'store of value' attribute refers to the commodity maintaining its value over a period of time, and not ease of storage.
The $1MM in your usb stick, can lose its value by half over a short period; something gold is unlikely to do.
2031  Economy / Marketplace / Re: i'm glad there are so many scams and frauds on: August 06, 2014, 02:29:57 AM
That is silly to blame people for being scammed in the event they come across one of these scams.  If the person volunteered their money it's one thing but when someone digs a whole and covers it up to hide the fact it is there, is a whole different story.  The internet is like uncharted territory and the scammers are pirates but in your mind they aren't that bad or to blame.. Roll Eyes

I am not saying the scammers are blameless. Of course, they should be blamed. If they are caught, they should be punished.
I am merely trying to find a silver lining from the point of view of the scammed.
2032  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: August 06, 2014, 02:27:51 AM
for me these $10 plunge are like end of world predictions, there are always someone to make them, and we all know they will never happen, but we still talk about them because it is fun.

I have heard worse - 80% probability of going to zero.  Smiley
2033  Economy / Digital goods / Re: How much will Bitcoins.com sell for??? on: August 06, 2014, 01:37:57 AM
i have noticed that there are a lot of clueless and broke bitcoiners on this forum...
i would say 90% of bitcoiners on this forum own less than 1 BTC and are clueless...
just my opinion...not trying to start any fights...so Relax people...it's just my opinion...

wellif they would be rich would just relax on some tropical island.
Was it sold yet?

Not yet. It has been stayed by a court order.
But with BTC.com selling for $1.1 million, any bid is possible in this case.
2034  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: August 06, 2014, 01:27:46 AM
New sig campaign this is good more competition with same price this will make mater more interesting every time.

Still seem like high paying isn't always good thing from what i have read last several pages.

My fear is spending on facebook campaigns might cannibalize spending on signature campaigns.
This seems too good to last.  Grin
2035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ARGENTINA COULD BE THE 1ST COUNTRY USING BITCOIN AS OFFICIAL CURRENCY on: August 06, 2014, 01:23:01 AM
You could have physical bitcoins/ satoshis circulated. This would solve the problem of access/ training.

Where would they come from? Argentina can't produce Bitcoins, physical or otherwise, out of thin air to circulate.

Argentina would have to buy them.
You will have to do the same things that you do when you dollarize an economy.
2036  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Argentina the cyprus of 2014? on: August 06, 2014, 01:18:06 AM
The bonds are denominated in USD though.   Plus they're already having inflation problems.   Why would they print more pesos?

Because they need money for government spending, and they will be covering those expenditures with printing pesos. Government employees, social programs will be funded with this devalued peso. The same amount of peso will be buying less and less goods and services with each passing day. Basically, the same thing every country is doing more or less Smiley

They need to cut government expenditure and let the private industry develop the country.

If the politicians all over the world see the need to rein in government expenditure, half the problems in the world will be solved.  Grin
2037  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: August 06, 2014, 01:15:10 AM
Lots of new coins coming up. I won't dismiss all of them yet.

True. The myspace-facebook analogy could play out in crypto as well.
