2021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ZiftrCOINs - what do you think? on: February 04, 2015, 08:08:40 AM
Can this coin be mined? Or just bought?
2022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Russia wants to ban Bitcoin because it is a safe haven from..... on: November 17, 2014, 05:40:38 AM
Soon there will be satellites to broadcast the blockchain. It's pretty much impossible to ban crypto's. Bitcoin was made to give the power back to the people.

I wish it would work the way they describe it.
2023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bangladesh says Bitcoin users could be jailed for up to 12 years on: September 21, 2014, 11:32:46 AM
"Central Bank has said that it would jail anyone"

Interesting. The bank has executive powers in Bangladesh?
Are they going to use an existing law or did the Bank just make a new law because banks in Bangladesh also have legislative power?
It seems you don't need a government anymore when you can just as well have a central bank instead.

They forgot that they're supposed to keep their shadow government in the shadows.
2024  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CNN Mentions Bitcoin on their Twitter feed on: September 21, 2014, 10:06:55 AM
They'd better update their infographic

"And here we see a cyber criminal selling bitcoins to a pedophile."
2025  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bangladesh Central Bank: Cryptocurrency Use is a ‘Punishable Offense’ on: September 17, 2014, 01:27:45 PM
Bangladesh Central Bank: We're poopyheads and like to eat boogers.
2026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stealth phase. on: September 17, 2014, 01:26:09 PM
How the hell do you define "early adoption" if not the past 4 years?
2027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Chinese VC investor Charles Xue Weiboed: Bitcoin on: September 17, 2014, 01:24:30 PM
blockpay.net has some spelling errors. surprises me these apparently big and rich Chinese players are too stingy to even hire a real English speaker to proof read.
2028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM and Samsung will use Blockchain technology for the "Internet of Things" on: September 17, 2014, 01:22:47 PM
It sounds like Adept, their blockchain, will put checkpoints out there (to say, bitcoin's blockchain) and hope that that secures it enough.

At least to wherever they put a note out there as a checkpoint. That's an amusing thing to do, IBM could have an address out there on the blockchain and occasionally, say daily, sign a transaction that acts like a checkpoint for their own chain. The costs of that could be really low, say 0.0001 to 0.0005 bitcoin. Fund the original address with a bitcoin and you're rolling.

Then if Adept comes under heavy and obvious denial of service attack, then they could go back to a checkpoint. If Adept comes under slow and stealthy attack, there would be nowhere to checkpoint back to that would be reasonable and they'd have to start over.

Just use bitcoin and colored coins from the beginning and save yourselves the trouble guys Wink
Depends on if there's more features here in Adept than it seems.
2029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's about time to turn off PoW mining on: September 17, 2014, 01:21:03 PM
DPoS suffers from a crucial problem which invalidates the whole system. There is no proof of stake, therefore there is no way to conclusively ascertain which chain is the longest and thus which spending is not a double spend. Meaning that DPoS does not prevent double spending.
2030  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The Worst Year for BTC? on: September 14, 2014, 01:37:43 PM
I would gladly take one bad year....(so you call it)... ..to rid the market of the ass hole that was mtgox...
BTC -e. You should be next to go...
2031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin about to rise dramatically due to the JLI (Jennifer Lawrence Indicator) on: September 14, 2014, 01:31:36 PM
This is pretty cool.. but.. WHO THE HELL THINKS TO CHECK IF THOSE ARE CORRELATED?!?!
2032  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core Developer says Bitcoin Too Fragile and in its Infancy on: September 14, 2014, 01:28:17 PM
Mike Hearn is also the guy that is proposing to build blacklisting into Tor, as well as reduce the fungibility of Bitcoin with built in taint tracking and rejection.
2033  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin price PLUS $1000 - Would Bitcoin then see world wide acceptance? on: September 14, 2014, 01:23:07 PM
I think you would have better luck if this entire subreddit decided to buy $5 worth of bitcoin on the same day.
2034  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Charlie Shrem Pleads Guilty - What do you think? on: September 14, 2014, 01:20:15 PM
But bitcoin isn't money. How can he plead guilty to running a money exchange, when the IRS has ruled it isn't money. He was only buying and selling a virtual property. Do we need to start arresting people who buy and sell high ticket items like wine or cars?
2035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin’s future depends on public acceptance on: September 14, 2014, 01:17:49 PM
Did people really need to know much about credit card processing to successfully use a credit card? In fact, I think it is the ignorance about the USD (FRN) and credit cards that has allowed them to be adopted quicker. I didn't understand how websites worked, or how email worked, but I could surf and send porn, and you didn't have to show me twice.
Why is it always a "future depends" nuclear option? Like if it doesn't go to the moon tomorrow, it's all over.
2036  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 1991 Electronics -> 2014 Smartphone. 2014 Banking -> 2018 Bitcoin on: September 14, 2014, 01:16:00 PM
You know the best part about living right now? I live in the mutha-flippin' future.
2037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why There Should Be A Bitcoin Central Bank on: September 14, 2014, 01:14:39 PM
Omg, this guy got so many things wrong. Bitcoin exchanges are NOT banks. They are not supposed to lend money. They are basically markets where the only comodity is bitcoin. You go there to buy or sell your bitcoins, that's it. It's no deposit account. Not to mention it will be highly illegal for them to operate as banks without the proper licenses. And creating bitcoin out of thin air is not nocessary to meet demand and create liquidy. If the demand is higher than the supply, the price will raise until enough people are ok to sell at that price and then you get the liquidy. It's called free market. I can't believe they let this stupid person to write for forbes...

2039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How will we stop the evil free market Chinese? on: September 14, 2014, 01:11:30 PM
Gotta say, I liked this better when it was GPU mining. This environment where the Chinese manufacturers are controlling the network is a bit ridiculous and makes me lose faith in the system.

This is a bit off-topic, but there ARE ASIC-resistant cryptocurrencies (e.g. Bytecoin which uses X11). They probably won't be ASIC-free for long (someone estimated 2 years until there could be an X11 ASIC), but...shrug
2040  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MIT’s bookstore to accept Bitcoins from students on: September 14, 2014, 01:05:06 PM
Do they have a book buyback program? Do they even have these anymore? If so, I wonder if they could get paid in Bitcoin?
