Anybody else faced with this issue - Error 1015, You are being rate limited?
My job sometimes requires me to use South and North American IP addresses to access certain websites. I saw the "you are being rate limited" twice today but not on Bitcointalk. One was on a website to check your IP address, and the other one was from a Canadian work-related page. I don't remember seeing it before on either website. Deactivating and re-enabling my VPN fixed it.

Oh, I see what you mean now. Somehow I missed the part of your post where you said that you used your mobile devices to switch the site to the desktop version. I just tried it, and yes, it won't open the desktop version on Chrome. It remains stuck on loading in circles with the "checking if connection is secure" message.

And yeah, clearnet is down for me also.
It's back up and running again.
2043  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NFT Idea: Prove Funds to Mint on: July 12, 2023, 06:23:12 PM
You think nobody with a lot of btc would want others to know? well I just provided examples of people with a lot of btc that wanted other people to know.
What you're really saying is that you wouldn't want others to know if YOU had 1000 BTC. Which is fair enough, but I think I can safely assume that you dont have 1000 BTC.
I don't remember ever seeing any posts by those two members you mentioned previously who bragged about having massive amounts of bitcoin, but I have no reason to believe you aren't telling the truth. Anyway, why would you take their word for it just because they claimed it? Ask them for a signed message from an address that holds several thousand bitcoins.  Wink I have never seen anyone from the guys I respect on this forum make such claims as that is not their style.

If you are convinced that your idea could succeed, go for it. You might find more believers on Twitter, Telegram, etc. This is an old-school community.
Also, I would appreciate if you avoid pyramid quotes. It looks bad. You can always edit and remove previous quotes, and only leave the most recent post you are replying to.

Good luck with your NFT idea, and let us know if you decide to do anything with it.
2044  Other / Archival / Re: Sinbad.io Mixer - secure, fast and easy to use on: July 11, 2023, 06:18:58 PM
Umm... not sure if it's just me, but I tried to access the clearnet through mobile browser and switch them to desktop version, it worked on mozilla-based browser, but on chrome and brave --i.e. chromium-based-- it's stuck on site verification step, the captcha won't stop circling and won't let me proceed to the page, instead it'll just keep refreshing the page. Switching back to mobile version solved it, and accessing through mozilla-based works fine both on mobile and desktop-version. I tried them both on my tablets [plural] and my phone, both on normal and incognito tab, everything brought the same result.
Try it now. Everything seems ok on my end both on Firefox and Chrome on my desktop and mobile devices. Cloudflare was acting up a few days ago, maybe that affected the clearnet version, since it uses Cloudflare. You might have noticed slowness with the forum in the last 2 days as well, but not today.
2045  Other / Meta / Re: Reserved Posts that didn't Used on: July 11, 2023, 04:02:28 PM
I don't understand why users besides the thread starter would reserve posts.

- If a contest lasts a month, you have one month to submit your entries. They don't have to be on the first page and you don't have to "signal" to anyone that you are participating.
- If there are limited places, a knowledgeable campaign manager will accept entries by those users who actually submitted the finished tasks in time, not made reserved post that they later edited.
- The same should be true if payment will only be sent to the first 10 participants, for example. All the manager has to do is check the last edited time and date.
2046  Other / Meta / Re: Forum having issues? on: July 11, 2023, 03:43:15 PM
I have been experiencing slow loading times when browsing forum topics as well in the last couple of days. It seems better right now. I had no issues posting, except waiting for the post to appear longer than what is normal. But there was a thread of mine that I was trying to edit and it didn't work. All attempts resulted in 500 server errors. Even opening the post and clicking on the preview button displayed the 500 error. Luckily, it's gone now.
2047  Other / Meta / Re: Metaverse role model on: July 11, 2023, 03:35:04 PM
Considering that the forum still doesn't have an official mobile application in an era of smartphones, and that the work on the new upgraded forum has been going on for a long time, this could definitely happen within the next 100-200 years. Grin OP just be patient.
Joking aside, I still fail to understand how a metaverse can replace a forum whose reason of existence is reading and writing.
2048  Other / Meta / Re: Metaverse role model on: July 10, 2023, 04:40:33 PM
You should go into a bit more details about how you think Bitcointalk's Metaverse would look like and work. How will it benefit me as someone reading and writing on this forum?
Metaverse is a virtual world making you an integral part of it. Essentially, it makes you part of a game. I could see the appeal for something like that, for example, in online casinos. You create a character who walks around the floor and can interact with other players and play casino games, etc.

How would such a world work for Bitcointalk? Would we be walking between different forum boards that are represented in some way in this virtual world?
Local boards could be presented by sights and popular destinations from that country. What about the rest?

Why do people buy designer clothes? Why do they wear million-dollar watches?
I can understand designer clothes to some degree as long as it looks good. I don't understand million-dollar watches made from diamonds, rare stones, and similar stuff rappers and the likes wear. It's idiotic to me. Seeing 15 custom-made sports cars in a driveway is equally foolish. That's my opinion at least.

Yes many bitcoiners love being anonymous. But also we are people, we like to announce to the world what we are proud of. We like to announce to the world that we believe in Bitcoin, and also the fact that we have made it big at the same time.
So, you want to display your faith in Bitcoin by minting an NFT on Ethereum or some other blockchain? Nice. You are not going to get any serious people to support such an idea. Perhaps the younger generation whose symbol of achievement is a custom-made diamond watch worth a few millions.
2051  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I make cold wallet off line and has the ability to consolidate the utxo on: July 10, 2023, 03:41:33 PM
I know the chances are to slim and almost non-existent but there is still a chance that a malicious person could be sitting behind you and taking a good look at your screen while you are extracting tb'he wallet's private key. Again, I know it's almost impossible that someone can remember a private key just by taking a quick look at it, but it's still a risk. Better be safe than sorry.
It goes without saying that you should be doing that in a private environment. Most preferably in your own home where you have some privacy. Working with private keys is not something you should be doing on a shared computer or in a public space. I would, of course, avoid using a phone when out and about as well.
2052  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you stay updated on: July 09, 2023, 12:52:54 PM
@OP
If you don't watch MMA and Boxing and don't have any passion for it, I would advise you to stay away from betting big money on such events. You should bet on the sports you know the most about and which you watch to improve your chances of winning. That's a gamble enough, and you are making it worse trying to profit from something you don't understand.

One of the best sports bettors I know bets on one sport and only a few leagues from that sport. He doesn't bet every day, and sometimes weeks pass between two of his bets. However, he is successful and knows what he is doing.
2053  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: NFT Idea: Prove Funds to Mint on: July 09, 2023, 12:12:22 PM
Why would someone buy this?
People who see your NFT will know that you're hodling a lot of Bitcoins.
Why would I want to put a digital target on my back saying I own or have owned at least 1000 bitcoin recently? Would you want to walk down a street holding a sign saying you are rich or have a lot of gold in your house?

Many bitcoiners want to remain anonymous and not draw unnecessary attention to themselves. They also wouldn't care about hyped digital waste known as NFTs that could maybe have one or two useful applications with the rest being garbage. I am sorry, but I don't think many would be interested in this.
2054  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Outdated Electrum Wallet: My Experience. on: July 09, 2023, 07:53:00 AM
I'm always confused about the role of the mempool with blockchain and always assume that they are both functioning as one which is the storage of all the transactions unconfirmed and confirmed.
There is no "the" mempool as in one universal mempool showing all unconfirmed transactions. Each node has its own mempool of unconfirmed transactions. They communicate with each other and share transaction data amongst themselves. On the other hand, we have one Bitcoin blockchain (the chain). One universal record of all confirmed transactions from the beginning of Bitcoin. Don't be confused by thinking that because the chain is decentralized and recorded all over the place, that those are different chains. They are copies of one chain.

I'm pretty sure that your computer has been infiltrated by malware.
No it hasn't. I am pretty sure you should read the thread, give it a go. OP was using an Android device, not a computer. Possible reasons why there was an unconfirmed transaction in the wallet were mentioned in the thread.
2055  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: new Electrum phishing site on: July 09, 2023, 07:31:29 AM
And to use uBlock Origin extension on your browser.
I use both uBlock Origin and AdGuard and never have issues with fake sites popping up in browser results as ads. But my question is, won't the ad blocker only protect you from seeing the Google ads at the top of the search results? E.g., if you do a search on 'Electrum website', this 'electrumcore.org' phishing site could still be displayed among the results. Not at the top of the page if it's an add, but further down in the search results. I doubt your Ad blocker can protect you against that.

I just did as an experiment, and among the results I see electrum-web.com, which is a phishing site.
2056  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 09, 2023, 06:35:38 AM
By showing that they are not capable of protecting even their clients' data, they have more than obviously shown that we should have all suspected that they were not and would not be able to protect another type of data for which we eventually paid when we bought their devices.
You are surely referring to the private keys and seeds in the part of your post that I bolded. Here is the difference. The personal information you submit to them when you buy Ledger hardware wallet is stored online on their servers. That's why it can be hacked and obtained. Your private keys and seeds are stored locally on the device you hold in your hand (let's forget about Ledger Recover for a moment). Thus, there is nothing to hack from Ledger's database. Ledger Recover introduces that window of opportunity through Ledger and the other companies that are supposed to hold the shards. That's why it should never have happened.
2057  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I make cold wallet off line and has the ability to consolidate the utxo on: July 09, 2023, 06:27:49 AM
OP can create a new watch-only wallet using funded addresses of wallet 1 and wallet 2 and a new wallet on the offline device using their private keys.
After that, he/she can simply create an unsigned transaction on the online device and sign it on the offline device. In this way, the transaction can be made without private keys of the cold wallet connecting to the internet.
Just as I thought. He would have to export all private keys of funded addresses and combine them all together in a new wallet. There is no way of signing the transactions on wallet #1 and then proceed to sign those in wallet #2 all in the same go.

If this is indeed what OP is asking about then the solution you suggested should work. However, although it might be the cheapest solution I don't think it's the safest one since you need to expose the offline wallet's private keys.
The cold wallet remains a cold wallet. It's keys aren't going anywhere. The second wallet was already a hot wallet, so its keys were already exposed to the internet prior to this. hosseinimr93's solution effectively spends all the UTXOs from the hot wallet, consolidates the coins with those in the cold wallet, and creates a brand-new cold wallet.
2058  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I make cold wallet off line and has the ability to consolidate the utxo on: July 08, 2023, 12:18:58 PM
It's really not clear what you are trying to ask here.
I think I understand what OP is asking.

OP has two wallets.
Wallet #1 is a standard hot wallet.
Wallet #2 is a cold wallet with its associated watch-only wallet for the creation and broadcasting of transactions.

Let's assume OP has 10 UTXOs in each wallet, so 20 in total. He is asking if he can consolidate all 20 UTXOs (belonging to two different wallets) at the same time.

I have never thought about it and would be interested how that would work myself. A standard setup wouldn't allow it because his cold wallet doesn't hold the signing keys for wallet #1. Perhaps if he were to export the needed private keys from wallet #1 and import them into his cold wallet (wallet #2) it would work. But then how would he create the transaction across two different wallets on the online machine? Importing the public keys into one of the wallets and only using that wallet for the creation of the transaction? Multisig is different. @o_e_l_e_o thoughts?
2059  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The wallet is not responding! on: July 08, 2023, 12:01:39 PM
Issues with Electrum freezing and not being able to handle massive transaction loads have been reported on the forum before. I am pretty sure it's the 3000 or so transactions that are causing the problems. I don't know if other light clients will be able to handle your wallet any better, especially if it's a native Electrum seed. You might need to consider importing your keys into Bitcoin Core and consolidate your transactions in batches.

Upload your screenshot on a website like Imgur, and then use the img code to post your image
use talkimg.com to upload image and paste the code, Imgur links may not work
OP is a newbie. Regardless of the image host they use, they can't display the images on the forum. Both Imgur and talkimg would work fine for this purpose because all we need is the link to the screenshot without the img tags.
2060  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: No option to send funds from mobile app (Android) on: July 08, 2023, 09:23:58 AM
You must have been making mistakes scanning the wrong thing. Luckily, you figured it out.
Here > https://mempool.space/address/bc1quhwdkj89pkzw7wlzjvjqy3e7qa8uf70h5xxd0k

That's a random address from a recent block from mempool.space. You can see the addresses' QR code on the right, and there is a button to copy the address on the left. You can test both the QR scanning and copy/pasting the address manually using that link. Both should work.
