Hah, that's my app! I wish I'd thought of putting a redhead in the background - much better choice, thelonecrouton Wink.

I'm just messing about learning stuff, but I can now run most darkcoind commands from my app. Basically I have reimplemented a supercrude qt wallet, but with buttons to push instead of typing commands into the console. Plus I can store all my MN addresses in a textfile and get all my balances at once, which beats hammering chaeplin's page every ten minutes to see if a MN has been paid.

Plus, yeah, redheads!  Cool

Tomorrow I'll make it run a slideshow and emit girly giggling and moany noises when you MN gets paid or your address balance increases. Or possibly not.  Undecided

edit: I have now attained complete remote control of the daemon, including everything masternode related, hurrah. Because I'm sure you were all anxious about that.

Ahahaha, coins101 that was masterful!  Grin

Now, while I was missing all that fun, along with Evan's announcement doubling+ the underlying fundamental value of Darkcoin, I have upgraded my Masternode Management Suite with several important features.

1. Background pictures of hot readheads are now user selectable
2. It can converse with a running instance of darkcoind as well as felch informations from the blockchain

Have a hundred wallet addresses or masternodes and want an easy way of checking your wealth and breaking your nodes by buggering about with them with dodgy software you got for nowt from some weirdo bloke in the intertubes?

I present croutons continuing comedy cataclysm in coding:

Hi gang.  can someone please explain who and why posts are getting deleted? i thpught thus was an unmoderated forum?!?

Some people just delete their posts, I believe for privacy reasons. IDK why though, that shit stays on the internet forever via caching services like Google. I see it in a lot of threads. It was very common from certain people in the speculation thread, they even said that's what they were doing.

thats not the case here.. people are getting pm from bitcoin forum moderators telling them that their post has been removed due to ''off topic reasons or other reasons''
its all done very randomly.
well thats complete  BS... if its unmoderated... its unmoderated... so,  bitcoin forum guys explain yourself
s please.

The mods here are a pack of wankers. Every time I report a post at least one of my own golden nuggets of pure wisdom and beauty gets deleted, and the shit I was reporting remains untouched more often than not. C'est la vie.

Sod legibility, the Masternode Management Suite To Be now has redheads!

I like it... Can you make it so that her eyes are following the mouse cursor?  Grin
Also, what software are you using to create this program?

1. Gawd no! I might implement a sexy wink though...  Wink
2. python/qt

So, besides anonymity, in the future, the 800+ Masternodes are also envisioned as providing the basis for some sort of decentralized alternative internet? This is very interesting; I'd like to learn more. I'm not a technologist so please dumb it down where possible.

Apple squeezed the internet down through its App store and made people want to use their ecosystem.

Think DRK App store, only you don't have to ask Apple, you can go after the most profitable grown up stuff on the internet, and you have a eCash to use too.

Stock up. You'll have plenty of things to spend your eCash on.

Actually I'm thinking everything Etherium promises but faster, better and cheaper, without volatile throwaway hyperinflatable comedy currency Ether being required. With added anonymity, of course. Wink

Great, lets do an IPO.

Everyone, the Darkcoin IPO is open; go to BitFinex and get your IPO DRKs now.

Need some kind of API or interface layer to utilise the Masternodes. Plus my coding skills suck. This is what I made this evening, and most of the time was spent failing to get an erotic background image to stick:

I'm aiming eventually for a Masternode Control Suite, or, er, something. Don't hodl your breath, mostly I just want clickable boobs...  Tongue

But I'm probably thinking far too small and failing to learn important lessons from noodling with cryptocurrencies: what I should be doing is promising the Earth and taking money from people hand over fist, then paying someone else peanuts to do the actual work for me.

I can't remember where I read this but I think Evan said that it's possible to prune the blockchain by some methodology - has this been talked afterwards at all?
Possible, but still a very bad idea. I doubt very strongly that he will do such a terrible thing.
Bitcoin has to do it at some point if they want to go mainstream. Am I missing something or why is it a bad thing?
You can't force old TXes to move forward with a lot of gyrating. Risks tossing someone's wallet if it doesn't gyrate properly... Loses the basis for trusting the chain; that it can't be fucked with. Best choice is to jsut not fuck with it and have an incentive for hosting it at a trustless decentralized places so that lite wallets don't have trustfail... You know, masternodes...

What the BitCoin experiment lacks is incentivization for that which Satoshi could not be expected to forsee. DRK does what BTC does not; masternodes with flexible use.

Still waiting on the IP obfuscation...

Superblocks! Wink  Coming soon to a homogenous blockchain in your neighbourhood.

And integrating IP obfuscation shouldn't be too hard, if that's the direction Evan chooses to take. The sublimely bland beauty of RC4 first though.

Question: Let's say I have more than 10 addresses, is there a quick and easy way to get a report of the total number of coins combined in all those addresses? Asking because it is quite hard to keep track of your net worth in DRK if you own a bunch of masternodes.

python script to scrape the balance of each address from the blockchain explorer?

Here you go, crude and gratis: (change the url to whatever main-net explorer you like, this is a testnet blockchain explorer)
Code:
import re
import urllib
from bs4 import BeautifulSoup

total = 0

# use this if you have the addresses you want to check stored in a text file
with open('masternodelist.txt', 'r') as f:
    addresses = [line.strip() for line in f]

# uncomment this and comment the two lines above if you want to manually enter the addresses to check here
#addresses = ['mmfb6hxTdLT3gQGAEDr2g6Qug8ew2MwKoJ', 'n3477ZfbKrovCAZ8WgBHHk1f9YwzWgjJ3o', 'mgvVYoBuN2Rmr9XPbgsLcu14i3U3YW9LC2']

for a in addresses:
 print 'Felching balance for ' + a
 url = "http://test.explorer.darkcoin.qa/address/" + a
 html = urllib.urlopen(url).read()
 soup = BeautifulSoup(html)
 text = soup.get_text()
 lines = (line.strip() for line in text.splitlines())
 for line in lines:
  if 'Balance:' in line:
   output = line + '\n'
   print output
   b = float(re.sub("[^0-9.]", " ", (line)))
   total = total + b
   print 'Running Total = ' + str(total) + '\n'

example textfile, put it in the same directory as the above script: (this is a list of testnet masternode pubkeys, for the sake of demonstration)

You might need to 'pip install beautifulsoup4' if you don't already have it as part of your python installation.

And if you want it wrapped in a fancy QT GUI let me know, I charge 10DRK/hr. Wink

Too late though.. Cloak has already figured it out and wil always do it better then drk.

PoSA is out and in the open..

Bouyaaa!
Here is why I don't touch currencies like Cloakcoin and Blackcoin.
One of the strengths of Bitcoin and Darkcoin lies in the ongoing proof of work. Anyone entering the field today can see that there are still lots of coins left to be mined. This fact subtly enhances the appeal to newcomers. When a newcomer first sees the capital investment required to secure a PoW network, it strikes an impression. The GPU and ASIC farms actually lend credibility to the concept of and value within cryptocurrencies, as they provide a tangible link between the currencies and the real world. I won't even touch upon the security reasons for PoW vs. PoS.

Why did Cloakcoin only have a 7 day proof of work? To grossly reward the miners with the full distribution of coins up front (minus the inflation subsidy). This is disguised as fair distribution when, in today's reality of renting mining rigs by the day, it enables the equivalent of instamining the full supply. It's cheating, plain and simple.

It has been well discussed how Darkcoin did not have a smooth launch. Say what you want about the early days, accidental instamine or otherwise. At least the community can say that only 20% of the full supply is out there. Darkcoin is designed for the long haul, just like Bitcoin, and I applaud Evan and team for taking the long view.

Ahaha, I'd assumed cloak was garbage, but I didn't realise it was this rotten. Seriously, you'd have to be clinically cretinous to throw money at such junk.

While I'm stating my frank opinions about other cryptocoins, I read up on Etherium yesterday - what a fucking joke. The whole 'let's make a simple to use cross platform scripting language' thing sounds great, until you realise that python already exists and python doesn't cost you a never ending stream of money to deploy your apps. The Ether supply has no upper bound, you have to keep buying it for your miracle apps to keep working anywhere. Fuck. Right. Off. You'd have to be even thicker than a cloak gobbler to fall for that, but thousands have.

Somewhere there is a retard factory in full swing and I'd buy shares in it if I could, because business is booming!

Anyone who can read a chart can read that the Cloak coin supply left the miners hands a long time ago. Keep talking your shit though it's entertaining to watch the violist play on the Titanic.

The miners were smarter than you are then.  Grin
