If we were to talk about "how much right wing votes can top gun get?" then we need to look at how right wing oriented Hollywood is, and we can clearly say that they are not, not even a little bit, they are pretty left wing and will continue to do so. Hell Robert De Niro said fuck trump right on award season when millions were watching and everyone clapped, that's the group we are talking about.

Doesn't matter to me considering I didn't like him neither, but it also means top gun is not going to win something because of any political reasons. It was however a good movie, and they shot so much of the flying for real, Tom Cruise literally flew the planes, that's insane! I think they can win by their own merit if they are lucky.

At the end of the day awards are just what a group of people think about something or someone.

It doesn't really matter in the end, it's all just a show to make money, on top of the money they're making with the movie itself.

It's all just entertainment.

Everyone can set certain goals for themselves when they are ready to sell, but this raises another question, after we sell bitcoins, how then to protect funds from inflation?

Do you understand what is the point? Now I buy bitcoin and I consider it a good defensive asset against inflation, but when the price reaches 100k or 200k and I sell bitcoin, the problem will be relevant again, my money will be subject to inflation and I will again have to think about how to protect it from it.

I say this to the fact that perhaps there is no point in selling bitcoins, perhaps this will be one of the most reliable ways to store our funds for a long time. And by then, perhaps adoption will have become more widespread and we will be able to buy goods with bitcoins without any problems.

Yeah, I agree.

I tend to think of it as "buying fiat with Bitcoin" instead of selling Bitcoin to emphasize what you're actually doing. If you think like that, then it makes little sense, because you're trading a great asset for an inferior one.

Of course in some cases you need to use fiat for an intermediary step to actually buy an asset, but to simply keep fiat?, makes little or no sense to me.

The long-term goal is the perfect way to gain the level of adoption we all glamour for I'm bitcoin,  most especially now that various countries have their sentimental judgement about Bitcoin.

But as long as Bitcoin continue to provide the best alternative it will become more of the currency of the citizens and not the government and that is why it is called alternatives currency.

Yeah, Bitcoin really is the best way to transfer money from point A to point B in the world. The thing is that the people in charge of how currently things are done are very powerful, and they're not going to stop living their fancy life because of this Bitcoin thing.

The more people realize how to use Bitcoin, the better most people will be.

It's just a matter of time. Changes at this scale take time, plus also it doesn't happen everywhere at the same time.

I got an accepted hash after 7 minutes, another 3 minutes later and another one minute later.
Did you create your own Fork that stays on difficulty 1?

When you use the benchmark option the difficulty by default is 1. It doesn't connect to any network.

Besides, bitcoin in its best state is good as a store of value, if you want it to be used as a currency I'm sorry but the ship has sailed.

What do you mean by that?

It's used everyday as currency in El Salvador, Central Africa Republic, Lugano(Switzerland), Prospera(Honduras), and others.

It's also used everyday as a currency through lightning everywhere in the world in different ways (stacker.news for example)

And more payment processors that help businesses accept Bitcoin are appearing, like OpenNode, and many others.

And most importantly, you can buy socks with it: https://www.mtsocks.com

I'll really appreciate to have you share some advise on what decision to take if you were to find yourself in this my cousin shoe. For It's been a difficult moment for him this past two days as he has  been thinking of the financial support he at times get from the gambling wins and at same time his fiancee too.

It's really up to him.

If he wants to continue gambling, he must simply say that to her.

If she decides to go, then that's what will happen. You can't force people to be with you.

The most important thing is for him to think about what he wants in life, anything that is non negotiable. If that includes gambling, then he just needs to say that to her, ideally in a calm way.

What she does then with that information is completely up to her.

Avoid ending up like a friend, who used all the money he has to invest in bitcoin and also took a loan, promising the lender that he will pay back when he gets paid in a month, after a month he never received the salary, I warned him doing this, because he has no doubt mixed investment with 'whatever it takes', is it safe to call this greed? I don't know.

Now he wants me to lend him some money to at least pay the loaner back and later settle me, there is more, now I have to send him some money to buy some food.

You don't have to use all your money to invest, even if you are not married yet or have other responsibilities, the best approach when planning to invest in Bitcoin is to buy with some percentage of the money you earning, maybe through business or a job.

If you do this weekly or monthly you won't feel any pressure, always remember that health is wealth.

Debt is one of the worst things you can get. It's all about control.

Whoever owns your debt, controls you.

With Bitcoin, you don't have to have anyone controlling you. That's the point.

Your friend seemed to miss this.
2049  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Chasing losses - Double down bet or Bet twice? on: February 15, 2023, 10:47:48 PM
I always have a dilemma when it comes to chasing losses in gambling. When I’m in the good mood, I preferred betting using the same amount multiple times until I hit a winning streak to recover my lose but when I’m in bad mood, I usually increase my bet size equals to my total lose so that I can recover quickly.

What do you typically do when you are on chasing loss situation?

If I'm in that situation, I stop gambling.

I learned very quickly many years ago, and with only a bit of money, that you can lose way more trying to recover your initial loss.

Not worth it in my opinion. Set the amount you want to bet, and be done with it. Winning or losing, doesn't matter. Stick to the plan. Emotions will only make things worse.

Some people end up in a very bad situation because they wanted to chase their loses. Even huge companies have collapsed because of this.

Just don't mix emotions and gambling, that's a terrible combination.

Do you realize that in order to reach $1 million market cap should be around 21 000 000 000 000? I can't say that's not possible, but that's a pretty big goal and I'm not sure if we'll ever see that. When people say that BTC's value is infinite it sounds kinda crazy, like you're from a cult.

To put more things into perspective:

The current market cap of Bitcoin is about US$467 Billion.

In 2021, US$650 Billion were printed out of thin air in the form of new SDR:

I think it is quite important to also notice that Brazil is the best in their own continent, along with Argentina obviously, I do not see any other Latin American team to be as dominant as these two nations. On the other hand Europe has so many good teams, so that means Brazil, as one of the best in their continent, will have to face multiple European teams, which causes imbalance and unfair calculation.

You are talking about one nation, vs a whole football oriented continent, of course Brazil would lose to one of them. If you look at how many times European teams won against Latin American teams, that difference will be huge, and Brazil does better than average Latin American team.

You're forgetting Uruguay, they have won the world cup two times.

If you look at the world cup winners, you'll have a pretty competitive list, with only South America and Europe.

- Brazil (5)
- Germany (4)
- Italy(4)
- Argentina (3)
- France(2)
- Uruguay(2)
- England(1)
- Spain(1)

Also, South America has less countries (and funding) than Europe. So, if you compare the number of times the continent has won the world cup, you have South America with 10, and Europe with 12. Very close.
2052  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Guide] Solo mine testnet bitcoins with bfgminer, Bitcoin Core, and a CPU/GPU on: February 15, 2023, 12:40:11 PM
CPU
did you use sse at least? say sse3.1 have some stuff for that. avx too

SSE is not supported in an ARM device like the M1.

Code:
benchmarking all sha256 algorithms ...
"c"        : benchmarking algorithm ...
"c"        : algorithm runs at 1.52071 MH/s
"cryptopp" : benchmarking algorithm ...
"cryptopp" : algorithm runs at 0.47593 MH/s
"c"        : is fastest algorithm at 1.52071 MH/s

That's per core, the M1 has 8 cores.

In an Intel CPU:

Code:
benchmarking all sha256 algorithms ...
"c"        : benchmarking algorithm ...
"c"        : algorithm runs at 1.82270 MH/s
"cryptopp" : benchmarking algorithm ...
"cryptopp" : algorithm runs at 1.11739 MH/s
"sse2_64"  : benchmarking algorithm ...
"sse2_64"  : algorithm runs at 1.42778 MH/s
"sse4_64"  : benchmarking algorithm ...
"sse4_64"  : algorithm runs at 1.31795 MH/s
"c"        : is fastest algorithm at 1.82270 MH/s

That's per core, the CPU had 20 cores. Also, I've seen the sse4_64 algo being the fastest at other times in the same CPU.

Note that this is bfgminer, with CPU. This is not supposed to have the latest CPU optimizations enabled as it's not used for that in years, maybe a decade or more.

In fact, there is an explanation for why Brazil lost to Croatia....

That defeat represented the continuation of a fast that has lasted since the 2002 World Cup in which Brazil is unable to overcome European opponents in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

Take a good look: They lost to France in 2006, then lost to the Netherlands in 2010, then lost to Belgium in 2018.
The only exception to this rule was in 2014, when he advanced to the quarterfinals, but was also eliminated by another European team.
If Europe has bigger teams, then I don't know, what I do know is that they are the worst nightmare for Brazilians in the world cup.

It's not that European teams are the worst nightmare of Brazil, it's just that for Brazil there's no one else to lose against at that stage.

Brazil just happened to lose at the quarter finals, the other side is most probably going to be from Europe, because Argentina is probably the only team from South America at that stage, so Brazil has more chances of playing against an European team there.

Who else would be in the quarter finals?, Morocco made history being the first African nation in the semi finals. It's usually only Europe and South America.

Sure, but if you have it already and need a bunch of testnet BTC, it should work nicely. I will try on the weekend with some modern desktop general-purpose hardware that I can access. I was surprised to see a >100MH/s hashrate on CPUs, since yours only managed single digits. Therefore, I was about to call this guide half-failed (the CPU part), but those benchmarks give me hope.

CPU mining absolutely works for testnet with relatively new devices.

Just did a quick benchmark with bfgminer on a mac mini M1(2020 device) with CPU only(you can also use OpenCL to use the GPU), and in less than 5 minutes I got 2 shares over Diff 1:

Code:
 [XXX-XX-XX XX:12:17] New best share: 1

 [XXX-XX-XX XX:15:04] 20s: 8.74 avg: 8.64 u:14.07 Mh/s | A:1 R:0+0(none) HW:0/none
 [XXX-XX-XX XX:15:24] 20s: 8.71 avg: 8.64 u:13.19 Mh/s | A:1 R:0+0(none) HW:0/none
 [XXX-XX-XX XX:15:44] 20s: 8.56 avg: 8.62 u:12.42 Mh/s | A:1 R:0+0(none) HW:0/none
 [XXX-XX-XX XX:15:53] New best share: 291
 [XXX-XX-XX XX:15:53] Accepted 00e0a123 CPU 5  Diff 291/1

You can see that it is absolutely possible to find a block when Diff is 1 with a CPU. It's just that it's way less probable than with an ASIC.

If you want to test a device without having to setup a local Bitcoin Core, you can do this:

Code:
./bfgminer -S cpu:auto --benchmark-intense

Also, notice the M1 hashrate hovering around 20Mh/s or so. It should be higher than that because I did the benchmark while using the device at 100% for other intensive tasks that I didn't want to stop.
2055  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Guide] Solo mine testnet bitcoins with cgminer, Bitcoin Core, and a Compac F on: February 15, 2023, 05:58:23 AM
Hi,

I cannot install the cgminer on my Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS. I keep on getting this error message:

make[2]: *** [Makefile:999: cgminer-cgminer.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory '/home/user/bitcoin_testnet/cgminer_phaenomenon'
make[1]: *** [Makefile:1894: all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/user/bitcoin_testnet/cgminer_phaenomenon'
make: *** [Makefile:808: all] Error 2

I have installed and updated all the libraries and tried to do the whole process over and over but I get the same end result.

Any thoughts on this issue?

As mentioned earlier, you're not sharing here the full log of errors, so it's hard to help with what you posted only.

And based on what you did post, it looks like you're not following the instructions exactly, as it seems like you're using a different repository (cgminer_phaenomenon instead of cmmodtools).

So, first, try following the guide correctly(instead of doing it wrong multiple times), and then if that doesn't work for you, post detailed logs.

No matter how good a team is, they can't guarantee winning matches 100% of the time they play. No one expected that Brazil would lose to Croatia, but it happened as a result of the combination of several adverse factors. I still believe that Brazil had the most skilled players and better team balance compared to other teams during Qatar 2022. From round of 16, it is knockout phase and no one can actually predict the outcome of the matches with guarantee. Croatia had a great day and didn't had anything to lose and eventually they won the match. That said, I didn't found too many negatives in the team strategy for Brazil, or the team balance and bonding.

Absolutely agree.

At the end of the day it was just an unlucky match for Brazil and a lucky one for Croatia. These things happen, that's why football is so entertaining.

Brazil is still ranked number one at the FIFA ranking, and they hold the amazing record of being the only country in the world to have been qualified to every single edition of the world cup, ever. Plus, they have won it 5 times, also a record.

They qualified to Qatar undefeated, and went to the next stage undefeated. That means that they only lost one time in the entire thing, qualifications and the world cup itself.

Argentina also lost a single time in the entire thing(also qualified undefeated), against Saudi Arabia. But they were lucky that it was at the group stage.

Luck is always needed to win the world cup.

For a while now, it has been turning into a progressive heaven for participants. If you are a lady with beard, or a queer or any lgbt+ member then you are going to get a lot more votes than what your song deserves. We do not have the times of "I am in love with a fairytale" period anymore. And this is coming from someone who supports progressive rights, what we think quite normal today was wrong for people in 60's, black/white marriage was a "sin" according to some people 60 years ago, and normal today, so what some say is wrong or sin today will be normal 60 years from now and I support them. BUT nobody should win if the song is not the best one, that should be only reason to win.

Eurovision has always been a bit colorful though. If you perform there without anything different you're most likely to be ignored, even if your song is "mainstream good".

But yeah, I agree that the contest is a bit political. But, isn't that the whole point of it?, I think it was created to make all European countries get to know each other a bit more, and get together peacefully. It has always been a geopolitical instrument, since the beginning:

The Eurovision Song Contest (French: Concours Eurovision de la chanson) was first held in 1956, originally conceived through a desire to unite European countries through cross-border television broadcasts following World War II, and in doing so to test the capabilities of international broadcast technology.

We have not shown any signs of being close to the theoretical limit but we are slowing down. Franky is right that we have evolved very quickly from things that we thought would be with us for a long time. CDs were very popular and people thought that it would be a method of storage for many years but they are now redundant so redundant that people do not have dvd players and do not have a cd tray in their computers.

I think the motivation for consumer storage might be the theoretical limit instead of the actual limit. hard drives wil continue to expand by a lot but they will be aimed at companies that need a lot of storage and cloud storage provides. The average consumer does not use more then 4TB atm and with other technologies slowing down and hitting their limit like games where the hardware is stronger then the things it relies on I think that could be what happens in the next 5-10 years. Consumer level hard drives might continue to be cheap but probably will not be made in smaller sizes corporate ones will probably continue to expand at a fast rate but will be more expensive to purchase.

Yeah, I would agree that whatever is being sold mainstream gives you a good indication of what the average user is going to be expecting to be the maximum storage.

For example, the new Mac mini with the M2 Pro comes with configuration options ranging from 512GB to 8TB. So that gives you an idea of what's mainstream these days. 512GB being the bare minimum to run a system, and if you need some extra space, you can get up to 8TB, without doing any installation yourself.

So, clearly 500GB of Bitcoin data is not too much these days.
2060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is ok to sell your Bitcoin. on: February 14, 2023, 11:23:18 PM
Selling is bad, because when you sell BTC, you have less BTC and your ability to fuck the state diminishes.
It makes you more of a slave, it makes you weak and powerless.

Bitcoin is money in the end, and you can of course use money to buy goods and services.

The key is to spend less than what you make, therefore always saving money.

Saving in Bitcoin gives you a better long term return than any other fiat currency.

Instead of having to invest in something, you can simply save money for the long term.
