2043  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Primer for a P2P Distributed Exchange on: May 22, 2013, 06:59:27 PM
Its backed by the fiat of the person who converts the voucher to fiat!

So, its just like the voucher system currently used by the exchanges, except its going to be your local joe banker who is converting your voucher to dollars, or euros or whatever.
You have just described Ripple...
2044  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Primer for a P2P Distributed Exchange on: May 22, 2013, 10:25:24 AM
But we know that the actual value of Fiat can and already is held in software now! Most of the planet's Fiat DOES exist only as digital currency, and moves just fine through networks like Wire transfers, SWIFT, SEPA, and ACH. -So if those networks can get access to the value of nationalized currency, then we should be able to as well... As an example, think of doing an ACH transfer to a software client, and from there it exists only in your online wallet as fiat credit.

So that's the final problem to solve, and once we fix that, the rest of this program will fall into place:
This is the core of the problem, this is one of the reasons Bitcoin has been created in the first place.

Of course you can't solve that problem, Bitcoin is the solution!

This whole post makes no sense, because it's just a sand castle build with no support.

banks in certain countries shutting down exchanges for political reasons (Poland for example.)

bitcoin-24.com
lol.

btc24 got closed because the owner was a total incompetent.

stating it was because of "political reasons" is a total whiny FUD.
which, by the way, damages the whole Bitcoin community. So, please, stop this nonsense.
2046  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] TAT.ASICMINER New Micro-share Passthrough! on: May 22, 2013, 09:48:12 AM

There is a huge difference. Marijuana has some inherent value. The US making it illegal doesn't diminish the high you get. People want to smoke marijuana whether it is legal or not. Bitcoins inherent value is related to its usefulness as a currency and store of value.

2048  Economy / Economics / Re: A Virtual Weimar - Hyperinflation in Diablo 3 on: May 22, 2013, 07:26:05 AM
Well, the article was pretty cool.

Of course, expecting Blizzard, which is one of the most fossilised gaming companies, to embrace such a change, would be foolish.
2049  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 21, 2013, 05:20:11 PM
We don't know would be the correct answer, since there is nothing about that in this thread. If you hold shares you should
take the time and read this thread.
I did, that's why I'm asking Wink

Perhaps the board members could find out more, but i am really not interested in chinese tax procedures nor do i think any
AM-employee should waste time on explaining it here.
I don't care for the exact explaination either, I just wanted to know if "Chinese authorities come knocking at their doors" is a likely event or not.

I'd suppose they are ok, since they have been doing everything flawlessly.
Just wondering.
2050  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 21, 2013, 04:31:01 PM
Quick question: how is AM position regarding eventual Chinese tax law and financial regulations?

I mean, are they assuming "it's BTC, they won't care", or they have some kind of lawyer dealing with that, or we don't know?
2051  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CoinBomb.com has just launched! on: May 20, 2013, 03:32:55 PM
Nice idea, good work!

One possible problem: if you click grab bomb and then change idea, will the bomb stay locked for everyone else for 5 minutes?
i.e. can someone chain-lock a bomb preventing anyone from grabbing it?
(I've noticed someone stating that the timer won't go down during that period, and that's good)
2052  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Shorting BTC on: May 20, 2013, 03:16:35 PM
I really want to hold 10 bitcoins in one account and be short 10 bitcoins in the other.
So when price against USD fluctuate, one account will appreciate in value and the other will depreciate that means delta neutral.
I'm no economist, but this makes no sense.
2053  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 18, 2013, 09:16:07 AM
The charts on the site always adjusts to the width of the monitor resolution Smiley
*Currently changing the host, so may be down for a short time
IMHO it would be much more readable if you added a bit more space on the left and on the right, like 10-15% of the page width at least.
2054  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 16, 2013, 09:46:59 AM
Except in 2016, at a known and predictable time, poof, 50% of the possible income and dividends disappear and thus the share value drops to 50%. Now you've lost 0.85 in a day. Or around a years worth of dividends at 30% hash rate.
- OR - BTCUSD doubles, hence while you are earning half BTC as before, you are actually earning the same equivalent USD.
2055  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 15, 2013, 09:46:22 AM
A share is ownership of a company. When the company has piles of cash, you own a part of that pile of cash.
Ok, but the company allows you to cash out that part of the cash, rescinding the share?
If it does, fine, I understand... if it doesn't, then I miss the point again, since that would be "virtual" cash that can't be spent (i.e. worthless).
2056  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 15, 2013, 09:29:19 AM
Dividends are paid high and often because this is a mining company, which for many people is basically a substitute of buying themselves mining equipment.
I.e. see it less like a company, and more like a consortium: people who want to be mining but instead of doing it directly they delegate it somewhere else.

That said, I'm also skeptic to the whole "non-dividend company" idea: what would be the point of owing any share, then? What would give the shares their value? Why should I buy those shares, other than for speculation? (but why would I speculate on something which has no inherent value?)
I guess I miss something here.
2057  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: May 14, 2013, 09:28:18 AM

You may want to update that now, prices at BTCT just shot up about 10% to 1.69 with highest bids at or above 1.6.

.b

EDIT: Very nice job, btw. I wish burnside would add something more flexible on his site, albeit hopefully not as horrible as the Bitfunder thing.

The live interactive version is here, it updates with new stock prices every 10 minutes or so..  This is just a dev box, so it's a temporary URL:

http://fnords.dontexist.com/chart/ASICMINER-PT

This chart is totally great, but you forgot to state the timezone.

In that case you might also want to look at the speculation and alt-currency boards.

Thanks, I might do so!

BTW, why do you have a photo of me as your avatar?

Lol, do we look alike? Because that's me.
(or maybe is this some sort of joke? mmmh...)

No, that was my cousin's wedding in 2009.

No, it wasn't. It looks a lot like it though. Almost as if you attempted to recreate it in tableau. Hmmmm Smiley

well this isn't creepy at all.

haha yep that's a weird one...

Sorry Lohoris - totally looks like this photo of me at my cousins wedding, but now I compare the two it's not.

Much lol, if it wasn't for the non-matching date (this one was 2012) I would have asked you if this was the same wedding, lol. Here's the full album: it's public anyway.

So, how long have you been working as my doppelganger? Smiley
That's a tough job, but it pays well...

Because the vast majority of it is gossip and backslapping.
But even gossip would benefit from having specific threads for every piece of news that may sparkle discussions...
