2061  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Litecoin ever see prices reach $1000? on: December 14, 2013, 09:53:59 PM
Do I buy it now or wait for the price to drop a little?

I'd buy now. Price has been pretty steady overall.

Thanks, there are sooooo many different types of coins.

Go for one of the up-and-coming ones rather than LTC. Bigger money to be made if you get em whilst they're cheap.

Which ones are these? Peercoin and Namecoin?

Peercoin - implemented a new idea that addresses some of the concerns that people have with Bitcoin and Litecoin mining not being profitable enough to provide security.

Namecoin - provides a distributed way of creating domain names (similar to "reddit.com" or "google.com") that is decentralized. In the same way other cryptocurrencies decentralize currency, namecoin aims to decentralize domain names.

I feel like bitcoin opened up a world of other opportunities where a lot of good investments and money can be made. I really need to spend more time learning about these alt coins.

I'm thinking of buying now...it was around $41 but now it's at $29... I'm pretty sure it'll at least go back to $41 sometime soon. Mt. Gox is about to open up their platform for people to trade LTC too. And I'm sure Coinbase will open up their service for Litecoin too, maybe not soon but definitely sometime since the creator of Litecoin works at Coinbase. I can exchange one bitcoin for a bunch of LTC right, I think i'll do that today or tomorrow.

Invest into Diamond - DMD  Grin Litecoin is hard to get such a high price

PS: I own several hundred Litecoin already

You're the 2nd person to mention DMD in this thread... can you tell me more about it or show me where to get info? I think I want to invest in LTC and one or 2 other atl coins too. Namecoin sounds pretty interesting.
2063  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Will Litecoin ever see prices reach $1000? on: December 14, 2013, 09:02:34 PM
Let's be honest here, most of us missed the Bitcoin boat... it's unlikely it'll go through another insane exponential growth like it has in the past 2 years. But who knows, one can only hope. Sad

But does anyone here think Litecoin will have its own exponential growth? Is anyone investing in litecoin? Apparently it's gaining popularity in China and there will be a bigger volume of mining in the coming months.

2065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin support a country? on: December 14, 2013, 07:16:09 PM
so we can make a sell off and then buy in this whole country? Grin

If Bitcoin was adopted by a country as an official currency, could the Bitcoin network handle it?

There was an idea on the forums to buy an island and declare it a BTC republic. Some of them cost just a few mil $.

How could you do this if you had the money? Are these islands completely free from the gov?

I was trying to figure out what someone on the 1st page meant by "price surge beyond .30"... then I looked at the date posted. Holy shit these guys must be rich (if they didn't ditch their coins)
2069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I really dont think bitcoin is going to be a day2day currency on: December 14, 2013, 04:44:24 PM
Um... credit card confirmations take 3-4 weeks!

Bitcoins are much faster and MUCH better for merchants as there are no charge backs
2070  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The press make me laugh with how they cover bitcoin, even now at 2013's end on: December 14, 2013, 04:24:48 PM
I'm glad that the press is still having a hard time understanding the concept and theory of cryptocurrency. It just assures me that we are still very early in its stage and adoption has a long way to go. Hell, I may actually have a chance of being considered an "early adopter" of this technology a few years down the line. Hopefully a few years later people will look back and say "Man I wish I bought some bitcoins back in 2013/2014"  Cheesy
2071  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The media and financial media's incorrect valuation of Bitcoin on: December 14, 2013, 04:18:50 PM
I think someone should keep a history of all the bullshit and incorrect assumptions/predictions that the press spits out so that when time comes, we can bring these up again and make them look stupid until they lose all credibility from the public
2072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / "Bitcoin is anonymous" --- According to every avg. Joe, but is it really? on: December 14, 2013, 04:10:35 PM
Every time I have a conversation about bitcoin with my friends, every one of them say the same thing: "it's anonymous internet money". Why is this usually the first or only thing that the average newbie know about bitcoins? Hell, I'm still having a hard time understanding why the concept of bitcoins being "anonymous" is one of the main traits that the media portrays about bitcoins. Is it really that anonymous? From my understand of bitcoins and how the blockchain works, it seems like bitcoins are the opposite of anonymous... and potentially a nightmare for privacy.

From what I understand, the blockchain is a global ledger, it hold information for every single transaction ever done by bitcoin by linking the bitcoin to the private address that the individual holds. This is open to the public. Yes, you can't tell who owns a bitcoin address but once you link that address to your identity or your bank account, and if someone finds your bitcoin address, they can see every single transactions you have ever made through bitcoins. If you use coinbase and coinbase has a record of your bank account and your initial bitcoin address, and if the government or some other identity gets a hold of that initial address... they can see every single transaction and transfers you have ever made.

Please tell me if my understand is wrong, but I just don't see how this is anonymous.

On another note, now that I think about it.. I can relate to people who think bitcoins are "shady" and the only use for it is for anonymous internet transactions. Of course we all know that assumption is completely missing the big picture. But when I first heard about bitcoin it was over a year ago... my friend showed me Silkroad and we browsed through the website for fun, shocked and amazed at all the crazy illegal stuff that were being sold using bitcoins. I automatically assumed bitcoins only played a role in the illegal market because it was completely anonymous, and being that anonymous it made me feel like it was sketchy and lacked in privacy. I completely forgot about bitcoin until the US Senate hearings, when I actually did some research and realized it was much more than just some anonymous internet currency and has the potential to change the world. I wish I would have invested when I first heard about Silkroad/bitcoins.. but everyone's hindshigt is 20/20
2073  Other / Off-topic / Almost got laid last night, messed up BAD, please help... on: December 14, 2013, 02:32:08 PM
Ok this is embarrassing but I have an issue with social anxiety mixed with some awkwardness and inexperience but please minimize your poking fun. I really am trying to improve how I interact with people and could use good advice

So I went to a party last night and to make a long story short, it didn't go so well. I won't go into the details of that right now, but let's just say it could have gone better. But, I still ended up going home with a girl.

Some info about her...she's 25, studying to be a nurse, and she's close friends with the host of the party...a girl who is a manager at the gym I go to. So I went back to her place. We were both pretty drunk...and I was definitely nervous. I haven't had sex in quite some time (not a virgin, but it's been about 5 years) and the last time I had sex it didn't go so well. So we start off making out, and I guess I did a good job because she didn't complain or say anything bad at that point. Here's where things turned for the worse.

She smiles at me, turns off the light, says "do you know what I'd like?", and starts pushing my head downwards. I laugh a little and try to play it cool, but I'm honestly terrified as fuck. I've never done this shit before and I literally have no idea wtf I'm going to do. So I lift her dress up and pull her panties there and man oh man it's sitting right there smiling at me. Jesus. So I go down there and I guess I started licking the wrong part because she sort of adjusts my head a few times. It lasted for about 2 minutes and then she said, "Okay well let's just try something different." Thank God that was over with. So then she pushes me on my back and starts to pull my pants down. I start thinking, "Oh God come on get hard get hard get hard," and of course my dick is just sitting there. She starts sucking on my dick and nothing is happening!! It's just sitting there. After a minute or so she looks at me and says, "Is something wrong?" I lied and told her I was just too drunk. So she keeps doing it for a bit and eventually I get this sorry excuse for a half-boner. She says, "Well good, enough of that...let's get down to business." She asks if I have a condom and luckily I brought three, so I go to the bathroom. This is where it gets really crappy and awkward.

I excuse myself to the bathroom and head on in there. I pull the condoms out of my pocket but I wasn't really sure what one to use since I had three different kinds. I decided to just go with the regular Trojan and prayed it would be the right size. The only problem is I'm not nearly hard enough and the stupid condom is slippery as fuck. I started to panic and my little half erection started to go back down...so I got really desperate at this point. I pulled out my Droid smartphone and started watching porn. I went to the first video I could find and started fapping right there in the bathroom. The entire time I was thinking, "Jesus christ please get hard again" which I don't think helped anything. Eventually I got hard again and got the condom over my dick. So the last time I had sex I didn't last long AT ALL, and I didn't want that to happen again. I remembered what a buddy had told me...put on a second condom to last longer. So I took the magnum Trojan I had and slipped it on top of the regular one I already had. This turned out to be a huge fuckinging mistake.

So eventually I feel like I'm good to go. I exit the bathroom and the girl is asleep on the bed. I nudge her and asked if she still wanted to do this. She opened her eyes and smiled and shook her head yes, so I decided to go for it. I lifted her legs and started poking around with my dink and eventually found the right hole. I started thrusting a bit and she started moaning, and then it happened. The stupid magnum condom slipped off inside of her. She noticed right away and stopped me. She said, "hold up your condom slipped off, let me put it back on." So she reached down, fished it out, and went to put it back on me. However, she immediately noticed I already had one on. She said, "What the fuck?" and just sort of stared at me. At this point, I instantly lost what erection I had and just sort of drooped down with this awkward condom just stuck on me. I think I said something like "Oh uh, I guess I forgot I already had one on", but I was so fucking red and sweating and nervous that I honestly could have said anything. She just sort of sat there and shook her head and said, "I think you should probably go home." I got dressed and went to kiss her and she just turned away. I asked if I could see her again and she said she'd call me, but I'm a bit skeptical considering she doesn't have my number and didn't ask for it. We had taken a cab back to her place from the party, so I ended up walking home at around 4am. It was about a 5 mile walk and it started raining, I just wanted to curl up in my bed and cry.  Sad

The worst part is, this girl is super close friends with the manager at the gym I go to. I'm almost certain she's going to tell her about what happened. It's going to be embarrassing as hell and I'm not sure I can show my face there anymore. It's the only decent gym in town and the girl works there 5 days a week during the only hours I can go. I have no idea what the hell to do now or how to fix this situation.

Any advice? I'm sorry for the wall of text, but I figured you all should know the details so you can give the best advice.

I expect around 95% to vote Yes.... but hopefully when you become the "wealthy elite" with bitcoins, that will not be an issue.

wrong expectations...

You're right... I should have expected most people to LIE and vote no

Are you saying that girls will only ever go for me for my money?! ;_; YOU'RE MEAN! Sad

2080  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SecondMarket CEO: Wall Street will put 'hundreds of Millions' into Bitcoin on: December 13, 2013, 02:52:49 AM
Well I hope it at least goes to $10,000/btc next year... maybe I can retire for a whole year and actually enjoy life.

But if it does go to $10,000 it would be so tempting to hold on and see it rise even more. If it goes to $10k i'd probably keep holding and put a sell limit around $10k. Then again we could all be delusional, and the price could just hover around $1000-1200 all of next year. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens, too many of the early adopters already got rich... the rest of us jumped in hoping for the same but lets be honest here... we can't all be rich.
