2081  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can I make cold wallet off line and has the ability to consolidate the utxo on: July 08, 2023, 12:18:58 PM
It's really not clear what you are trying to ask here.
I think I understand what OP is asking.

OP has two wallets.
Wallet #1 is a standard hot wallet.
Wallet #2 is a cold wallet with its associated watch-only wallet for the creation and broadcasting of transactions.

Let's assume OP has 10 UTXOs in each wallet, so 20 in total. He is asking if he can consolidate all 20 UTXOs (belonging to two different wallets) at the same time.

I have never thought about it and would be interested how that would work myself. A standard setup wouldn't allow it because his cold wallet doesn't hold the signing keys for wallet #1. Perhaps if he were to export the needed private keys from wallet #1 and import them into his cold wallet (wallet #2) it would work. But then how would he create the transaction across two different wallets on the online machine? Importing the public keys into one of the wallets and only using that wallet for the creation of the transaction? Multisig is different. @o_e_l_e_o thoughts?
2082  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The wallet is not responding! on: July 08, 2023, 12:01:39 PM
Issues with Electrum freezing and not being able to handle massive transaction loads have been reported on the forum before. I am pretty sure it's the 3000 or so transactions that are causing the problems. I don't know if other light clients will be able to handle your wallet any better, especially if it's a native Electrum seed. You might need to consider importing your keys into Bitcoin Core and consolidate your transactions in batches.

Upload your screenshot on a website like Imgur, and then use the img code to post your image
use talkimg.com to upload image and paste the code, Imgur links may not work
OP is a newbie. Regardless of the image host they use, they can't display the images on the forum. Both Imgur and talkimg would work fine for this purpose because all we need is the link to the screenshot without the img tags.
2083  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: No option to send funds from mobile app (Android) on: July 08, 2023, 09:23:58 AM
You must have been making mistakes scanning the wrong thing. Luckily, you figured it out.
Here > https://mempool.space/address/bc1quhwdkj89pkzw7wlzjvjqy3e7qa8uf70h5xxd0k

That's a random address from a recent block from mempool.space. You can see the addresses' QR code on the right, and there is a button to copy the address on the left. You can test both the QR scanning and copy/pasting the address manually using that link. Both should work.
2084  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 08, 2023, 09:11:16 AM
Why would I bother when I can't do anything with it?

That's the point I'm making - not that I can't review the code, only that far fewer people will bother to do so since they can't use that code themselves.
That's totally subjective I think. In that case, the problem is in the people not wanting to do it, and not the license that hinders you. If you want to, you have what you need to fork the code and use it on your own software. But do it privately and for your own benefit without making anything public. Who is going to stop you?
2085  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 08, 2023, 09:03:04 AM
But it is equally fine for people like me to point out that doing so means fewer eyes on the code therefore less security...
...Coinkite locking down their code so it cannot be used by anyone else.
I think these two parts of your post mean totally different things. Please tell me how you or anyone else can't scrutinize the Coldcard code and find issues with it if they exist?
Yes, you can't use the code in your own software, sell it, releases it with such code, etc. Why exactly can't you analyze every line of it if it pleases you?
2086  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Keystone 3 HW coming soon! on: July 08, 2023, 07:03:48 AM
There is a little bit more information in this blog post they released yesterday:
https://blog.keyst.one/paving-the-way-for-a-secure-web3-future-the-forthcoming-launch-of-keystone-3-62b8dc4810d0
Most of it, though, is about them telling the world why they are the best.

There is this close up of the upcoming Keystone 3, which really resembles a smartphone.

They have also released a timeline showing when more information about the upcoming product is supposed to become available. Most of it will be revealed by the end of the month.
2087  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My worries with ledger on: July 08, 2023, 06:42:29 AM
I understand what you're saying about how the keys are stored and what Ledger did, but all HW wallets have secure elements, do they not?  Those things I don't know much about except that the HW wallet manufacturer (as you stated) should never be able to access the keys stored in said secure element.

And a lot of pesky redditors were going on about no HW wallets being completely safe now, precisely because they all contain those secure elements, and they were talking about open-source ones like Trezor, Bitbox, and a bunch of others.
Almost all the popular brands have secure elements. Trezor is an exception to that group you mentioned. That's one reason why Trezor suffers from that unfixable seed/pin extraction vulnerability that allows someone to get to your secrets with quite cheap hardware equipment. Obviously, they would have to know what they are doing.

Regarding all hardware wallet with secure elements not being safe anymore is also a point I was trying to make indirectly in the Ledger Recover thread where we discuss the incident. People don't seem or want to see the bigger picture. Hardware wallets were presented as the ultimate long-term storage devices for your keys that prevented remote access. Secure elements were supposed to be impenetrable for regular Joe's. Turns out that neither of that is true. Ledger showed us that with their Ledger Recover feature. A differently coded firmware allows you to send your keys to 3 companies in the world using a combination of Ledger's software and hardware.

They got bashed hard for it, and rightly so. The way I see it is that all manufacturers selling hardware wallets have dishonestly represented their products as having a safe enclosure for your private keys. They don't, so they are all lying. They are all just remaining quiet hoping their community won't start asking, how the hell can private keys be sent via the internet, and why do you and your product even exist?
2088  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 07, 2023, 07:07:17 PM
The reputation you're talking about disappeared after the data leak, although Ledger then and today described the situation as harmless and overly stressed, because according to them, in fact, nothing terrible happened.
I look at the data hacking incidents as dents to the surface area. The Ledger Recover scandal is a completely different thing though. What a clusterfuck. A perfect example of how not to run a company.

Back to the data leak. Whether we agree on it or not, such hacking incidents happen. Companies from all industries have suffered minor and major hacking incidents. The forum we today write on was hacked in the past. No one questions Bitcointalk today or considers theymos and the admins incompetent for what happened. Obviously, the forum's main business model was never to protect sensitive data, Ledger's is. But Ledger is neither the first nor the last business handling sensitive information to be hacked. There is always one or more weak links in a chain.
2089  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 07, 2023, 06:50:36 PM
I'm no expert on the code, the licensing, or where the code originated, but having included features like (for example,) Bip85 (deterministic seed phrases that are backed up by the primary seed, which is a pretty slick feature,) could justify changing the licensing due to those features.  If nvK wants to protect his intellectual property by protecting unique snippets, I don't see a problem with it as long as it's available to the public for scrutiny.
I understand the reasoning of both camps. Those who say it's unethical to use open-source code to inspire you to build your own software, only to prevent others from doing the same and using your code in their products are right. It is. But if his product is superior in any ways, or he thinks it is, I understand why he would want to protect it. Business is cold, emotionless, and sometimes doesn't know logic and reasoning. If someone feels there is a breach of licensing agreements, sue him. Can it even be done?
2090  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 07, 2023, 06:17:40 PM
OP should use 'approximately' instead of currently. Because different casinos use different resources to calculate the price of BTC. And casino doesn't update the minimum withdrawal amount instantly for the price change of BTC. Therefore, the minimum withdrawal amounts aren't going to match exactly with bitcoindata.science price calculation system.
I agree with the suggestion. I just checked the info on FortuneJack. The current minimum withdrawal amount is 0.005 BTC, while the api spits out 0.00494xxx. But the small different doesn't matter, especially when it says approximately. Instead of the word, I will just use the ≈ symbol to save room.

Or you may use the sub command for the image.
Excellent suggestion, and the entries look cleaner now after I tested it out. I will enter the sub command for all casinos soon.

This is the best thread so far and I am not sure if Op has already thought about this but they should add a system that will fetch the current ongoing promotions from the gambling sites. It shall also be able to show in one column regarding the promo codes as soon as they get available on social media.
That's above my abilities. And I don't know if something like that could be automated. On top of that, any other columns would make the table look bad. If you have a small screen on your desktop device, it's already pretty cluttered. You would have to zoom out with your mouse to make it look decent.

Do you think something like adding promos and live statuses about the active codes is possible? I don't know, but the space of entire page will be the issue in that case.
Sorry, I don't have any plans to do that.
2091  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 07, 2023, 03:54:25 PM
It is hypocritical and dishonest at best, and dangerous at worst. If no one is allowed to build on your code or use your code for anything, then you are going to have far fewer people looking at it, examining it, testing it, using it. As you say, few people can actually interrogate the code themselves, and most users rely on independent developers or power users examining the code of open source projects on their behalf. If you aren't actually allowed to do anything with the code, then there is far less incentive to spend your time going through it.
No one can prevent you from looking at the code and testing it for security vulnerabilities. It's public, go ahead. But you can't use it as a base to build your own software. Whether the code is open-source or not and someone finds bugs or vulnerabilities in it, you can only do one thing. You open an issue about it on GitHub and inform the team. It's the devs who need to patch it up, change it, or get rid of the faulty code. You might say, the software is open-source, I can do it myself. In that case we are going back to the verifiability dilemma. The most important thing is that the necessary code is public so you can go through it and change it according to your needs. In case of the Coldcard, it's equally public as Trezor or Passport. nvK doesn't know what is running on your local machine. Wink
2092  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 07, 2023, 03:41:19 PM
Maybe you should add date in first page when you check websites, so people can know if something may be outdated or not.
You can see the information at the bottom of the table. There is a sentence that says Last updated. The last time I made a full update was on 27 April.

I believe to have solved the problem.

I cached the price in a local file in my server, and we are not getting blocked by external API now.

It is faster, but as there are like 50+ requests, it still takes some time to load. But all images are loading now.
It works better now, thanks! Almost all of the images load successfully.

I also have a small suggestion for some casinos:
$150,  currently
Is there a way to lower the image entry and bring it in line with the text? If you look at the result, you will see that the BTC amount is slightly higher up than the word 'currently'.
2093  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Who can you trust these days with cold storage hardware wallets? on: July 06, 2023, 06:28:54 PM
I found it very odd that neither Trezor or Ledger were at B23 conference in Miami this year, especially after the FTX collapse.
I have never been interested in crypto conferences, so I wouldn't know if this is a surprise or not. Have Ledger and Trezor regularly been participants in these and similar conferences in the past?

Apparently the Nano S is their ONLY device right now not exposed to this new update for the foreseeable future (Simply because of its lack of memory on the device) leaving any ledger wallet user in a difficult place.
They have stopped the production and sale of this particular brand. They have stated that vulnerabilities and bugs will still be fixed if discovered. But the old Nano S won't be in their focus of attention for new features compared to their other devices. All of that + the memory limitations could be reasons why (hopefully) it won't support the Recover vulnerability.

What are Bitcoin users to do in terms of cold storage hardware wallet storage for their coins to secure them?
I have never paid much attention to multisig solutions, maybe I should. But if I had to pick between multisig and an airgapped computer, I would go for the latter. Regarding hardware wallets, I agree with those recommending Passport. It's quite expensive, but they are doing many things right. I would also not rule out the Coldcard Mk4.
2094  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Recovery - Send your (encrypted) recovery phrase to 3rd parties entities on: July 06, 2023, 06:15:06 PM
The code is verifiable, not open source.
I think that's what matters the most, well, at least for me.
If I was looking exclusively for open-source products, I wouldn't let Coldcard's change of license stop me from purchasing their hardware wallet. I called it politics in the past, and I am not interested in it. I certainly don't agree with their development team building on freely available code only to make it unavailable to others once they considered it a finished product. A bitch move! But when people preach the importance of open-source, it's mostly about being able to verify that everything functions as advertised. Even that's something that most people can't do, let alone build upon the code.

Wow, almost identical. That could really trick those who have bad searching habits.
Anyone who wants to mix their coins with Sinbad, should bookmark the official and TOR site + this ANN thread. Before using the mixer, always confirm that the domains you have in your bookmarks are identical to what this ANN thread shows. If in doubt, ask questions before sending any money to a fake site. And never rely on Google to point you to the correct mixer. History shows us they don't care, and will gladly advertise a fake one.

2097  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 06, 2023, 03:24:07 PM
Maybe they pay fees unless they confiscate your coins like they confiscated mine, so I am not using this casino anymore and I dont recommend it to anyone.
I am sorry to hear that. I never had such problems with FortuneJack, neither while I was active in their signature camping nor afterwards.

Another problem with them is minimal withdrawal amount that is $150, so nobody could withdraw that in signature campaign, this is so stupid  Grin
They have one of the highest minimum withdrawal amounts. I don't remember how it was while the campaign was active but I never had issues withdrawing my weekly earnings. And I usually did it on a weekly basis.

Sportsbet is much better, they dont charge any fees for withdrawal and minimum amount to withdraw bitcoin is 0.002 BTC that is now estimated at $60, so maybe you need to correct your table for that.
I will go through each casino and update the numbers because I haven't checked them in months.

Something is wrong with dollar calculations and they are not loading for many casinos or they load incorrectly
I know. I PMed bitmover about it as well. There are too many images and that's causing the issues. I hope it will be sorted out.

I find this thread very interesting and informative but Op you should as well listed some crypto casino that offers free withdrawal fees
You should check the table properly. Had you done that, you wouldn't have written that there aren't any.
2098  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Generating Seed words on: July 05, 2023, 06:02:38 PM
I did generate my seed words on a air gapped computer but did not select bip39.  Why does electrum not automatically create bip39 addresses at that would have made my wallets more compatible with other hardware/software wallets should there ever be issues with electrum.
Electrum was released 2 years before the BIP39 standard, so they had their own system long before BIP39 seeds became a thing. Electrum supports importing both types, but generates only Electrum-native seeds.

I have 12 word seed, but I forget and only remember number 1, 11 and 12. Anybody here can try recovery Seed word?
You should create a separate thread and discuss your problem. But if you only have 3 out of 12 words with no information on the missing ones, I think it's pretty much impossible to bruteforce your wallet with today's technology. Don't throw it away, though. You never know what the future might bring.
2099  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum support any other currency apart from btc? on: July 05, 2023, 05:49:52 PM
So please is it possible to store other coin there and is it safe?
By now, you have found out that Electrum is a bitcoin-only software wallet. If you are interested in altcoins, you will have to look elsewhere.

When we are on the subject of security, it depends on several factors. A wallet can't be safe if the person handling it has poor knowledge of internet safety. If you don't know how to protect yourself from malware, phishing, scamming, etc., chances are you'll give the bad guys the essentials to steal your coins. You are the most important element of your wallet's security.

Electrum can function as a hot or cold wallet. A hot wallet is connected to the internet, while a cold wallet should be installed on a cleanly formatted OS that has not and should never in the future have internet access. The latter is obviously the safer option if set up correctly.

Whats shocks me the most is that they actually got registered within the Bank of Spain! How can an entity like this could support a company with such void claims? I think that this only demonstrates that Banks have no idea what Bitcoin actually is.
Got registered in what sense? That's the Central Bank of Spain if I am not mistaken. Is it their banking partner?
I wouldn't be surprised if the bank has no idea of the dangers this company puts its clients in nor do I think they care. If the project fails miserably, it would cause bad press on the whole crypto ecosystem, and the banks look like the winners in those cases.
