2081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vote for Bitcoin IRA at Fidelity at finance.yahoo.com on: December 13, 2013, 01:01:48 AM
Wow @ the poll.... 2 of the choices are completely anti-bitcoin, only 12% of people are positive about bitcoins...  Kiss
2082  Other / Beginners & Help / Can someone explain the concept of the Blockchain? on: December 12, 2013, 10:21:49 PM
All I know is it holds history of every transaction bitcoin has ever made, but nothing else...  what's the idea behind it, where does it stay, and how does it work?
2083  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Merchant Adoption on: December 12, 2013, 07:01:50 PM
I'm not sure if anyone here does it but on reddit I see threads about how people are getting X company/store to accept bitcoin all the time. If you wanted to get a merchant to accept bitcoin, how would you do it? I'm just wondering because I would like to play my part in helping bitcoins gain popularity become adopted.
2084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Breaking News- Coinbase Raises $25 Million From Andreessen Horowitz on: December 12, 2013, 06:35:03 PM
Big news indeed. This guy invested in Facebook, Groupon, Twitter, Skype, etc if I recall

Quick question though, what is the main difference between Bitstamp and Coinbase? How come Bitstamp allows buy/sell limits but Coinbase doesn't? Is there a reason Coinbase has a limit to how many BTC you can buy? Does Coinbase also allow business to use bitcoins like BTC-e?

Just trying to understand the difference between these exchanges and how/if Coinbase falls short. (Sorry not trying to derail the thread)
2085  Economy / Speculation / Current price ~$850... any reason for it to be going down? on: December 12, 2013, 05:51:31 PM
With all the good news this week (below) I'm surprised we are at $850... I'm planning to buy some more right now but I'm wondering if we are falling into another dip for some reason?

Any thoughts?

Good new form this week:

I think this entire week was full of good news, the 5 main ones that come to mind in no particular order:
1. Switzerland voting to make BTC a foreign currency
2. Baidu (china's yahoo) adding a section for bitcoin in their main page
3. http://www.usatoday.com/ adding a bitcoin logo on their main page (their high traffic, along with baidu's will definitely help increase awareness)
4. News about WallStreet and hedge funds getting into bitcoins in 2014
5. Fidelity allowing customers put bitcoins in IRAs
2086  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoins Future is promising, but one point I havent figured out yet... on: December 12, 2013, 04:19:38 PM
Use Case Example:
I am outside a football game, walk up to a scalper ... he says tickets are 0.5 btc, i accept and transfer funds via cellphone in front of him, he checks his, sees its legit... then turns around to walk away without handing me tickets (no reverse transfer) ...

Now obvious anwser (dont buy from scalpers, check)

Other obvious anwser (you have same problem with cash, but in that instance I can kick his leg, knock him down, beat the shit out of him and get my cash back along with the tickets for trying to jack me; that doesnt work if i dont know his password on his phone after I get it back from him)

I would expect him to give me the ticket first because if I pay him I cannot get my money back, unless I beat the shit out of him and make him transfer it back to my address

So simple solution:
1. Get the item first
2. Beat the shit out of him
2087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SecondMarket CEO: Wall Street will put 'hundreds of Millions' into Bitcoin on: December 12, 2013, 06:14:12 AM
Uhh... thats more money into Bitcoin, that makes my bitcoins more valuable, sounds pretty good to me.

this

it was going to happen, but early next year is sooner than I thought, this is bigger news than the recent crap that everyone keeps repeating
2088  Economy / Economics / Re: JP Morgon Currency will fail and act as a ponzi for more control on: December 11, 2013, 09:47:25 PM
Bitcoin's payment system will free us from the banks and make the world a better place for the general public.

Of course these crooks/scum are going to try to downplay bitcoin and create alternatives that allow them to keep their dicks in everyone's mouth.
2089  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: POLL: which exchange(s) do you use? on: December 11, 2013, 09:41:46 PM
Coinbase and Bitstamp.. fuck mount cox
2090  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is OUR money. Dollars are THEIR money. on: December 11, 2013, 08:23:17 PM
I want to see Bitcoins destroy the banks first. Banks will try to jump in the way of the freedom bitcoin is creating by trying to stop it, regulate it or simply copy it. Like JPM, more will try to create their own virtual currency that acts revolutionary.... but really just provides half the benefits of the decentralized p2p system of bitcoin, while charging an arm and a leg to the public and by keeping the masses and small businesses in debt.

I hope no one supports any of these bullshit "warnings" or alt currencies the banks try to bring in the next few years, and that people realize that banks are a parasite that needs to die. Bitcoins can allow that to happen if everyone plays along
2091  Economy / Speculation / Re: jpm chase getting involved? on: December 11, 2013, 05:24:45 AM
apparently this patent was filed in 1999.. it's not the same as bitcoins and it is still backed by a credit card
2092  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Illuminati JPM Chase makes move to kill BTC on: December 10, 2013, 10:58:25 PM
So is this basically another crypto-currency w/ the same accounting capabilities as bitcoin, except centralized by the bank?

2093  Other / Off-topic / Re: Sell your apple stocks now, war is amoung us on: December 10, 2013, 10:43:07 PM
That's a bit silly.  I don't see apple's technology and bitcoin fighting for the same market share.  Totally different products.  Not sure how it's a war against bitcoin o_0

1. Apple is going to push for their own online payment system, they are just killing any roadblocks or competition
2. They would rather have you use your credit card to purchase than bitcoins
2094  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Wikipedia were to accept Bitcoin, how much would you be willing to donate? on: December 10, 2013, 09:53:41 PM
bout three fiddy
2095  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will $1000/BTC seem like a bargain price in 2014? on: December 10, 2013, 07:44:57 PM
All newbies looking at this thread... looks like a vast majority of the people here think bitcoin prices will increase a lot next year. So get hyped and buy some coins and drive the price up for the rest of us you assholes! Wink

Only if the last 5 years tells us anything.

In my opinion I don't think it does.

It's much easier to go from pennies to 100 or 100 to 1000 than it is to go form 1000 to 10,000... I'm not sure how we can see exponential growth like we've seen this year and the year before.

On another hand there is no limit, for all we know bitcoins could replace all liquid wealth.
2096  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is this the End of 3 Digit $ Bitcoins ? on: December 10, 2013, 07:37:26 PM
Coinbase still says $963.67.... so wtf are u talking about?

And no, I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 3 digits again in Jan 2014

Screw the 4 digits... the real question is when will we get to 5 digits?
2097  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ready to bounce back to a new high? on: December 10, 2013, 05:41:46 PM
We've had our fun for 2013...

I expect greatness and new ATH's in 2014

I'm worried about companies like Amazon, JPMorgan Chase and Apple all jumping in to create their own virtual currencies. They're not decentralized global p2p currency with as many advantages of bitcoin, but these companies have strong advertising and the avergae joe won't know the difference. Do you guys think this will hurt or slow down bitcoin adoption?
2098  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My MtGox account hacked... Lost $60,000... :'( on: December 10, 2013, 03:00:11 PM
Can someone kindly explain how to do 2 factor authentication?
2099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paypal says (David Marcus): Bitcoin is good on: December 10, 2013, 02:56:27 PM
Can Paypal, Amazon and Ebay integrate with bitcoin already? Will 2014 be the year?

These large corporations are working on creating they're own digital currencies. Over the next several years I predict we will see all kinds of corporations adopt digital currencies.
I can only imagine the benefits and tax breaks that major corporations could generate through the manipulation of they're own non taxable anonymous currency.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1001166401

Wtf is up all these companies (Amazon, Apple, JPMorgan) trying to create their own virtual currency!! Fuck them. Is this bad news for bitcoins? Does that mean it's unlikely that Amazon will accept bitcoins as payment? But I don't think their currency is the same kind of crypto currency that bitcoins are, they're not programmable and provide the same world wide peer-to-peer benefits of bitcoins right?
2100  Economy / Speculation / Re: PayPal president David Marcus: Bitcoin is good, NFC is bad on: December 10, 2013, 02:45:23 PM
Wow! Amazing news. Looks like Paypal's finally offering that missing link, a dual-currency (BTC-fiat) debit card!

"However, he believes people don't correctly understand what bitcoins actually are today, and he's yet ready to let people link their bitcoin wallets with their PayPal accounts."

Oops.  Roll Eyes  Cheesy

Let's hope that changes by 2014 or 2015. Bitcoins linked to Paypal, Ebay and Amazon = huge step forward for adoption, increase in bitcoin's use, more fiat coming into btc and btc value increasing substantially to support the larger market share.  My fingers are crossed
