2081  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it good that the Bitcoin community acts like a cult? (Podcast) on: October 13, 2022, 12:09:45 PM
Reading the topic of this discussion OP, I had to go check out the typical characteristics of a cult group, so I can on my own compare it with the characteristics of this community to see if there is a similarity. These are some of the characteristics I could find;
Quote
The group is focused on a living leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.

The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.

The group is preoccupied with making money.

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.

Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group.

Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.
source

Now comparing those characteristics;
Quote
The group is focused on a living leader to whom members seem to display excessively zealous, unquestioning commitment.
Can we say this is Satoshi?

Quote
The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.
I don't think there is any strong rule that you must bring people to the forum.

Quote
The group is preoccupied with making money.
We love money yes, but it is not the primary purpose of this forum, I believe the primary objective here is for knowledge and not money.

Quote
Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
Almost all sorts of questions and enquiries to know more are entertained on this forum, we are all here to learn.

Quote
Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group.
The forum is a free place, you decide the time you want to be active.

Quote
Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.
Privacy is key, and even though we are in the same forum, it is still often advised that you still exercise caution with other members.

In conclusion, there is a reason why there is the word ''community'' and the word ''cult''. IMO while they may share some similarities, the two word do not exactly refer to the same thing. Cult is the extreme of a community.

I like what I saw in Tottenham today ...
They almost lost concentration halfway and that would have cost them the complete three points, it's a good thing they were able to hold on to their winning to the last minute. they now top the table with a very good chance of qualifying for the next stage after their next game.

For Barcelona after spending so much and giving us hope that the team is back to glory days with the addition of some key players, they are still struggling to be relevant in the champions League, how disappointing the result of their game for both the players and the supporters of the club. Their hope of qualifying for the next stage is very slim and now dependent on inter Milan loosing against Viktoria Plzen. Some of the players in the club who by all means have wanted to avoid the Europa League may soon find themselves playing there because of their current situation that they've not been able to put themselves together.
2083  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Why are crypto exchanges not truthful? on: October 12, 2022, 09:28:01 PM
I signed up on Bybit through an ad that says free 1500$ for first depositors and after clicking I was forced to make first deposit and I later find out that the free 1500$ is for futures trading and you still need to trade futures with your money,  why can't the ad says free 1500$ for futures trading? It's same with Bitgert...
There is something called marketing strategy where a company may highlight something enticing from their terms and condition and those who are lazy to follow through reading and actually understanding the complete terms and conditions, may be fooled. This is money we are talking about here you don't expect them to just make the process of getting it as easy as it seems, you have to do something for them for them to do something for you that's how it works, nothing goes for nothing.

Next time to avoid being fooled, be sure to read through completely the terms and conditions of any exchange you want to use before you sign up, don't simply be lured by the promise of money.
2084  Economy / Economics / Re: Switching The World To Renewable Energy Will Cost $62 Trillion on: October 12, 2022, 08:09:36 PM
If the market price of bitcoin were higher. The same goals might be achieved by setting up wind and solar farms to mine bitcoin. Then using the profits to fund the expansion of renewable power and EVs.
Unfortunately, this school of thought though will work, but may not be adopted for use by many governments because the grievance they hold towards bitcoin will deter them from seeing and accepting a way through bitcoins to achieve their goal.

They claim a global shift to renewable energy would cost $62 trillion and pay for itself in 6 years.
It will cost them a lot more if they chose not to seek new energy sources but to remain with the energy sources we have currently. Its a good plan for them seeking to transition, it is mechanism to achieve it that has to be reassuring.

2086  Economy / Gambling / Re: Do you visit the casino while travelling? on: October 12, 2022, 04:14:15 PM
Do you visit casinos when you travel? How often? Which ones?
I don't travel often, but when I do, I wouldn't mind to visit their casino's especially if it's a city of gambling that I have heard so much about some of their major casinos that offer 5-star experiences. It will surely be fun to try and add as a destination on my bucket list if I visit such a country. The exposure will be good as well. Also for someone who wants to go into the casino business, traveling to visit casinos can be a good way to gather ideas to bring back to the location where you want to set your offline casino.

2087  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: October 11, 2022, 07:32:58 PM
Milan has had a strong start to the game and is clearly showing that they can do everything they can to win it, but as of right now, their aggressiveness has gotten them into trouble as they have received a red card, which weakens their defense.
It was a clear penalty, but the decision of red card from German referee  Daniel Siebert was too harsh and unnecessary IMO, the referee has ruined the game and the momentum that the Italian side started with has now cooled down. It may turn out to be a rough game with a lot of bookings for both teams. Milan now has an extra job and will have to be extra composed if they are to win this game.

Chelsea now lead by two goals courtesy Jorginho and Auba. More goals will come definitely for Chelsea.

2088  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anyone Use Or Using this Strategy In Casino on: October 11, 2022, 06:06:11 PM
Yes, i have done that before, but in sport gambling. There are times I deposited all and I lost all just during the first match I bet on. Be it sport or casino, that was just an addiction and not encouraging at all.
Even in sports betting, whenever i want to play, the amount deposited is usually what i intend to use in betting, so i don't see it as strange using all the money i have deposited to gamble at a go. if I use little amounts to gamble, I'm at the danger of spending more time gambling and becoming more accustomed to the practice which may make it difficult for me to keep track of the money I use in gambling especially since I'm a disciplined gambler who  uses a fixed sum of money for gambling.
2089  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: October 11, 2022, 03:39:19 PM
According to several sources from Spain Mbappé just asked to PSG to be sold to REAL MADRID for this January.
If you had followed up the news properly, you would have heard and also read that PSG may be willing to release him since he is unhappy with the coaches attacking style, wants to play in the premier league and reportedly not in good terms with Neymar, but the only club that they are willing to release him to is Liverpool and not Real Madrid. Liverpool will really need his services to compliment their attack because they have not been the same since Mane left and Darwin Nunez isn't seeming enough.

2090  Economy / Economics / Re: Retailers make more profit than wholesalers during inflation. on: October 11, 2022, 11:58:36 AM
The narrative of this topic may mean to some considering business that going into retail can be more profitable for them when compared to Wholesaling just as you have suggested. But for me wholesaling remains the best option because some other factors in business have not been considered and the example you have given to support your claim is not sufficient. Though it may seem that retailers can make more money simply because they can adjust their price for consumers during inflation, wholesalers also adjust their price for retailers so they can still afford the price from the industries/manufacturers. Retailers also increase cost to reflect the cost of transportation of their goods as well. So the profit that you think retailers make may not be so much since there are some cost like transportation that will be subtracted from whatever they make as profit.
2091  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Formula 1's Crypto.com Sponsor Is Falling Apart on: October 11, 2022, 11:37:20 AM
It's quite unfortunate really, but if you built your company heavily on ads and not focused on strengthening what you really offer, plus venturing out on other possible business fronts, this is what you'll get. They were extremely ambitious and bold in getting their name out there, and it's evident on getting deals left, right, and center on big sports teams and leagues.
Diversification can be good, but if not done calculatedly can suffocate a business. This IMO is the scenario crypto.com is facing. Their intention with the massive ads and chasing all the deals was good, but I think they lost focus and forgot one of the primary purpose of business which is to survive. As someone who is in business as well, I sympathize with other business owners when I see their businesses going through a tough time, I hope they recover and bounce back good. This new development should also serve as a warning to other business who plan on following the blueprint of crypto.com.
2092  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: October 10, 2022, 07:41:18 PM
Liverpool is clearly very difficult to stop Manchester City from lashing out.
Liverpool usually comes alive whenever they play against Manchester city I was having high hopes for them until I saw the news about Luis Diaz's injury that is going to take him off play until next year. I wonder how klopp is going to cope with this new challenge especially since he has not had a smooth running this season in the premier League. I hope they put up a good performance against Manchester City to slow them down from chasing after us (Arsenal) on the league table. Even if they cannot win, holding them to a draw will be celebrated.

Watching Nottingham forest against Aston villa, the game is currently a draw with both teams having one goal each, but Nottingham forest needs the win the most IMO to break their run of bad luck in the season. The players in the team are not yet playing cohesively and i predict Aston Villa to be winners at the end.

2094  Economy / Gambling / Re: Cashback VS Bonus on: October 10, 2022, 11:53:14 AM
if you loose many times in a row, what would you like at most - a cashback from what you've just lost or a bonus to go on?
Losing many times in a row may mean that that is not my lucky day so I do not see any need demanding a bonus to go on when I know that continuing to go on may still mean that I would lose all. A cashback will be my choice to save the day.

Also to persist gambling even after consecutive losses that same day can be an evidence that I am becoming an uncontrollable gambler who does not know when to stop and that's a bad character to portray.
2095  Economy / Gambling / Re: To what extent do you chase anonymity while gambling? on: October 10, 2022, 11:27:55 AM
Choosing crypto in casinos has always also to do with more anonimous gambling.
The anonymity that many may seek when gambling may not necessarily be concerned with the casino but people. Some people who do not like to physically visit a casino maybe to avoid stereotype or be tagged as irresponsible by people who do not understand, or may judge them due to their position, online gambling with crypto offers that anonymity that they desire.

Anyway I'm curious how important is anonimity to you when you pay & play?
You should be careful while pursuing anonymity on gambling platforms. So you don't make it cloud your judgement/perception, and then you subscribe for an online gambling platform that turns out to be a scam but you couldn't detect it because you liked the fact that they did not ask you for any form of verification.
2096  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A painter received $50 worth of bitcoin on June 2013. on: October 10, 2022, 10:04:16 AM
Good thing it turns out to be a story with a happy ending, I like the fact that even though she had no idea about how important bitcoins will turn out to be, she held on it and kept it safe. IMO, this is just how God and the universe wanted to reward her years of offering free services to people who definitely would have wished her well whether in their hearts or openly with statements like "GOD BLESS YOU''. I hope she doesn't stop doing good and being a good person.
2097  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trade with a business mindset on: October 09, 2022, 08:59:54 PM
Mindset matters a lot in trading just as it matters in other things. also understanding and having a business mindset towards trading can also help. just like business you make profits and then you also lose in trading and new traders should understand and not bite themselves about this or make their losing discourage them from wanting to keep trading thinking that older traders never lose but always gain.

Everyone experiences losses and the new traders need to recognise and understand this. The only difference is that the older traders know how to manage their losses something that the new traders need to learn, just like business people who manage situations.
2098  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: October 09, 2022, 08:19:03 PM
Arsenal this season makes things very hard for the other teams especially City. It has been quite long time since gunners were performing like that.
For a team that is the youngest team in the EPL,  Arsenal is playing very matured football and doing very well more than the expectations of a lot of persons including us the fans and supporters of the team. Arteta has done a great job with morale of this team. We get to enjoy another week as leaders of the premier League. Arnold picking up an injury early in the game kind of ruined Liverpool's plan to send those long searching balls into our six yard box to Darwin Nunez to finish, but good thing he was still able to score starting today ahead of Firminho who still scored against us a team he is so used to scoring against.  Tomiyasu did a great job completely containing the overrated Mo Salah including the other defenders who did their best to ensure that Liverpool did not run through.

Manchester United on the other hand are having a great run and now have won a couple of games and still keeping their hope of being in the champions League next season alive. I am happy that Ronaldo was able to score today, an important 700th career goal for him.
2099  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: REFLEX ACTION IN GAMBLING AND TIPS TO AVOID ITS PITFALLS. on: October 09, 2022, 07:05:30 PM
An automatic response to a simple stimulus which does not require mental
In reflex gambling, however, it is simply gambling without prior thoughts to variables involved all due to the brains response to a gambling stimuli.
It is known in gambling that, whether one wins or lose, the brain releases chemicals like adrenalin and endorphins which gets one excited. One may want to play again to try to get a different score or outcome - and end up making some decisions they wished they hadn’t made.
This reflex gambling is sounding same as compulsive gambling where a gambler is unable to control his gambling, and can sometimes find himself/herself gambling even before they can realises.

• Spend time doing other activities, not just gambling.
if you find yourself being in the category of a reflex or compulsive gambler you must try as much as possible to engage yourself in other activities to distract your mind from gambling. Seek enjoyment and pleasure in other activities, so you will not be idle and then the thought of gambling beseeches you.

• Remember that mixing gambling with alcohol or drugs can be risky also.
if you are the type that cannot handle the intoxication that comes with alcohol or drug use you may find yourself making irrational decisions when you are gambling and you become more prone to overspending.
2100  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will You Support Casino Operated By The Bitcointalk Members on: October 09, 2022, 12:06:53 PM
if reputable members here decided to put their own casino will you support them...
A reputable bitcointalk member starting a casino will try as much  as possible to ensure that his casino is of quality having been exposed to the casino environment and other reputable casino's that have active campaigns here. I would support a casino operated by a not just any bitcointalk member, but trusted and reputable members.
