2081  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How did you start your posting life as a newbie??? only for full mem, Sr and leg on: June 23, 2023, 12:10:59 PM
You should have started by self moderating the thread since, for some reasons, you don't want newbies and Jr. Members to participate in the discussion. But, I think they'll bring the best response to this thread because their beginning is still fresh to them. I can't personally recall exactly how I started the journey here, it all boils down to creating threads and making responses to the forum. And one faithful morning a merit source located my account and gave out good number of merits that led me to full membership, and after that period I stopped visiting the forum because of work and later when I began posting again my merit count was increasing by 2 gradually till it got to this point. Consistency is key here.
2082  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin is a clock on: June 23, 2023, 09:44:05 AM
I’ve been looking out for some real-life situations where double spending was possible and I found on this article bitcoin is time about George C Parker a man that sold the Broklyn Bridge more than twice, I research about him on the historynaked site and discovered he sold the bridge for more than 2 times a week. As we know, double spending is hard to achieve in the physical realm compared to the digital realm. The physical law states that you cannot spend again what you’ve given out to someone else. Unless you are so smart a con artist like Parker. Why Parker succeeded with his con was that it wasn’t recorded anywhere that he’s made the first sales. Don’t confuse it, he doesn’t own the bridge yes, but sometimes people who own a property often times sell it more than once to different buyers.

But in the digital realm, it is a trouble that we discuss a lot and a solution to it was never discovered until Satoshi surfaced with a great idea. Where he called bitcoin a clock.

In this paper, we propose a solution to the double spending problem using a peer-to-peer distribution timestamp server to generate a computational proof of the chronological order of transactions - Satoshi Nakamoto (2009)

Seeing a block as a clock can also help make the understanding of the difficult bitcoin concept much easier. A person can reset a clock in their possession to anytime but it won’t affect other people’s clock, in this sense, even if a block is compromised, it doesn’t affect the network.

Copy and paste is a well-known term in the digital realm, which made double spending a difficult task to handle, anybody can copy a file as many time as they want to and they was no means of tracing the actual time he made the first copy. Hence, Satoshi didn’t stop the copying of information. Every component of bitcoin can be copied, private keys, address etc, but Satoshi was able to build a system that makes rule breaking copies to be worthless. It’s written in the article, Who should be in charge of time if putting someone in charge is not allowed? How can you have a reliable clock if there is no Central frame of reference?

Satoshi settled the problem, but he wasn’t the first person who thought about finding a solution to the problem. D. Bayer, Habler and Stornetta in 1992 (reference on the bitcoin whitepaper) “ To establish that a document was created after a given moment in time, it is necessary to report events that could not have been predicted before they happened”

That means the idea existed. Satoshi managed to arrange them together in a way that excludes the “time stamping company” which is controlled by the government and not reliable. So, Satoshi’s idea was linked to the fact that we know what will be next, but it’s unpredictable. We can’t predict what will happen in the next hour, even if we know what time it’ll be in the next hour.

Similarly, we can’t predict what transaction would enter the next block and also the person who will solve the problem cannot be predicted (proof of work). So, without unpredictability, the whole concept wouldn’t have made sense.

In a nutshell, proof of work shouldn’t be considered as just a record of an event, it is the record itself. It requires lots of guess work to find a valid proof of work.
Quote
Hence the probabilities sum of these guesses is what builds up the timechain that is bitcoin

It must be stressed that the impossibility of associating events with points in time in distribution system was the unsolved problem that precluded a decentralized ledger from ever being until Satoshi Nakamoto invented a solution.

Gregory Trubetskoy 2018

Time defines bitcoin, can you please add to why you think that bitcoin is mainly about timing?

You can read the main write up to understand better https://dergigi.com/2021/01/14/bitcoin-is-time/

GoodLuck.

2083  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problem, why is fiat difficult to hold. on: June 22, 2023, 09:11:08 PM
You are required to spend when you possess money. Even before the high cost of things, spending always happen. I understand that you're referring to the difficulty of being able to save up money. It happens to me too, but I have a way of controlling myself from buying unnecessary products. Since you realized that holding cash contributes to excessive buying, it's necessary to cut short the amount of cash you take from the bank and restrict your brain from thinking so much about the available balance. Or if you have a business, it's better you forward the funds back to the business and discipline yourself.
2084  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is legalized, a dream of mine would come true on: June 21, 2023, 11:40:45 PM
That's a nice suggestion, payment is payment whether in Bitcoin or fiat, what matters is the growth of his business. But, he may have a different reason for his actions and could at the moment focus on his father's food business. In a sense, OP is looking at beginning the business to accept and promote bitcoin to tourists and visitors in Bangladesh. I don't think his dream is building a pizza business, without bitcoin as a payment method. If not he would have done that long ago and wait until bitcoin get legalized in his country then he'll Integrate the payment method. Things can change in future, maybe he thinks about it and begin from somewhere.

I fear that the OP may be too old or that it may be too late for him to archive that dream if he decides to wait until Bitcoin is legalized in his country. What if it's after 40 years that Bitcoin gets legalized? Let's assume that the OP is already 25 or more. Then he will be very old. They say no time is too late to start, but common sense says it's not so impressive to start exercising in old age. The fact that Bitcoin is not legal in his country means OP cannot force it because of the implications of government policies.
If he starts to run the business, his dreams won't come through until bitcoin becomes a legal tender in his country. I'd say that Op's main purpose of creating this thread is to share his wish of seeing bitcoin legalized in his country. Then he can set up a pizza restaurant and sell to tourists in his country and promote bitcoin to them. But like a user said, even if bitcoin get legalized in his country it doesn't mean he'll be getting paid with bitcoin all the time. Because not everyone would want to spend or purchase things with bitcoin. So, it's as good as saying that OP wants to enjoy the feeling that comes with pasting on his store “BITCOIN IS ACCEPTED"
2085  Other / Meta / Re: Why do you browse the forum without notification? on: June 21, 2023, 11:22:25 PM
I don't use the notification bot not for any reason, but because I know how to get back to my responses, which I think would get a quote from other users. I go to my profile and click the button "show the last posts of this person" there I can go back to trace my comments if anyone joined my argument. Although, I don't do it for all my responses, yet it seems like I've mastered a way of knowing any of my response that is likely to get quoted by members. The forum can be boring if I don't visit threads that I've commented on, just like Op said, it shows I know about the topic and can contribute further if a person doesn't understand or agree with what I wrote.
2086  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting Some Merit really boosted my motivation on: June 21, 2023, 11:00:38 PM
Getting merits helps because it feels like your effort to get to another rank is moving and progressive. Same is applicable to other websites like, when you get more upvotes on reddit or quara you'll see yourself being more active on the platform. It's good that you're observant of how the merit makes you feel, meaning that you're learning and practicing it the right way in the forum. I'm glad to read legendary members admitting to feel the same way despite being on the last rank. I think it has to do with the Brain. Comparing with social media, accounts with more impression stay active and those with lesser impression tend to quit earlier, than they expected.

2088  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is money ruling the world? on: June 21, 2023, 10:16:18 PM
Money is the most powerful thing in this world. The main reason why millions of people, states, big capital companies and communities are constantly waging wars against each other is money. All these groups which I have mentioned regarding the fact that money is such a great power, are doing their best to obtain it. Because it is so powerful, the management of the world is provided by money and whoever has most of the money, that person can control everything because of the power he/she gets with money. If we examine the history of the world from the past to the present, we can see that the main reason for many wars or similar events is money and money holders have ruled the world throughout the history of the world.

In the past they fought to gain territories and take people for slavery, that is also a way of saying they did it for Money. However, today, the world has lots of hidden rich men that sponsor war and send out weapons to fuel conflicts in some parts of the world, either to benefit their business or to loot from the country facing crisis. Money has eaten dip into the emotions of people such that the only thing that matters to them is money. And they can betray their loyalty because of money. Most a times it costs a lot to the next generation, trying to fix a mistake that was caused out of a person's greed for money is what the world is passing through today. Some leaders in the past, signed laws that is now a source of suffering to the living and they're there in their graves. Money has been here for thousands of years and the love for it keeps increasing.

Re: Does ranking not guarantee post quality?
No.
Some might said their opinion regarding this question, and I'll share mine as well.

I've seen Legendary ranked members here that are posting low quality, and repetitive posts in different threads. I've also seen high-ranked members who are just posting 2-3 sentences in every thread that they see. On the other hand, there are some new members who climbed up on their ranks, and currently they are either Legendary, or will be in the future (probably they lack of activity). I mean I've saw a handful of new members here who has a rank of newbie, and just after 3-6 months, they have enough merits to become a Legendary already. Those are the ones who are posting high quality ones, and really are contributing here in the forum.

No disrespect to those shitposters because I might be one as well, but I just hope that we - high ranked members here might step up in terms of their quality of posting here. I guess it's a good thing that the merit system has implemented or else, we are seeing those users who are just posting proofs on bounty threads that are now Legendary rank or Hero Member.

Every member of this forum is compelled to be a good writer and many times writers get block and can't figure out a better idea to address on their responses. An average user visits and contributes to this forum at least 5 days a week; spending atleast 2-3 hours reading the forum. And some members have been practicing this for quite a long time amounting to 4-5 years of active service Grin

it's not a simple accomplishment to do that, most times the quality of their responses drops because they don't know much about the topic and had to fit into the discussion. But, if you get them on a topic they studied well, they is always a quality change. As for members that get enough merits within 6 months I respect them because I understand how much work they put in to achieve that. The forum is simple on its own, but not simpler to understand completely how it works and in my view the forum readers can detect when a member spent so much time building a thread. Such posts always get enough merits. Good and constructive writing requires research, editing and time. Not every member possess such luxury.

As for the old members that got promoted when the merit system was initiated, I don't think a lot of them still use this forum to be pointing fingers that they're the high ranked users with low quality posts. I see many active accounts from 2020 upwards I rarely see active 2014, 2016 or even 2017 accounts compared to 2019 upwards accounts. Everyone is doing their best.
2090  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is money ruling the world? on: June 20, 2023, 06:48:23 AM
money can rule the world, because we live we have to use money, and everything needs money, even people who are already rich, of course, really need money, so we really have to earn money seriously so that we get what we want
like a luxurious and magnificent house and also if you want to get married you also have to have money.

but of course we should be grateful for what we get. and in my opinion there is something more valuable than money, namely health.

When you have health, you can use it to make money, but if you have health, you can't make money,  it doesn't help you either. Because over time your health will also decrease with age, due to eating... but if you have a lot of money, you will maintain your health and can maintain a longer life. So I don't think health will be more important than money.

We do not live in this world alone, we have loved ones and families and their health is sometimes more important than our own. And to maintain their health, you need money, so money is still the most important thing in today's society.
Sickness can finish a generational wealth and the deceased can still pass on and not make it. Health is super important, money and eating has nothing to do with wealth. People get accident and their health gets affected, quite good that money pays for their health, but what cures them? Money doesn't heal people it only contributes to get substances that'll gear or facilitate the sick person. Time and patience heals people. As money, men rule the world not money. It's funny how people value money over men, just like saying computer is greater than men when men created it. Men created money and they control it alongside the world.
2091  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is legalized, a dream of mine would come true on: June 17, 2023, 03:39:46 PM
Just as Franky1 has said, you must not wait until Bitcoin becomes legal in your country before you can start your business. There is this saying in my place that goes like this: "Time waits for nobody; time is money." Yeah, the fact that you can't accept Bitcoin payments now based on its Illegality in your country doesn't mean you can't accept fiat or other accepted means of payment in your country. The dream of every entrepreneur is to have a big business that could extend across other countries, and if they are very successful, it can possibly be a dream come true. So, just start your pizza shop first and accept fiat. If you become successful, you could take your business to another country where you can accept Bitcoin for payment.

2092  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buy ETH as much as you can.... on: June 17, 2023, 02:48:19 PM
Some experts believe that the price of Ethereum will be around $50,000. But this does not mean that you should form your entire portfolio of cryptocurrencies only on Ethereum. With such a commission, I don’t think ETH has very good prospects.

In the next bull run? I think that is too high for a prediction, but in the long term, yeah, I would agree that it is possible to see that price range, similar to bitcoin's prediction that it can reach at least $100k (and the target in the next bull run).

Of course, diversify is the key here, what I mean is that it's not just crypto that should be in your portfolio. You should have at least stocks and other commodities to boot. So just in case, you have a lot of assets that you can play around and make profits in the future.

But for ETH, since it is second to BTC, it is one of the best cryptos, no doubt about that. It's leadership are very active and they have a face value founder in Vitalik.

I've been following ETH for years and made good profits for having eth in my portfolio. The fact it moved from $100 to 1k then pushed above 3k in 2021 proved the capability of the project. Eth2.0 was much anticipated by investors, but it didn't make much difference for the project, and later it dropped back to 1k by then I already removed my profits and investment after noticing that no much profit range for investing in eth other than bitcoin. Eth price moved or moves alongside the price of bitcoin if bitcoin skyrockets eth will definitely move as well. Predicting 100k for eth that means bitcoin will be at 300k-500k  for eth to hit 100k if I'm not mistaken BTC could be more than that before eth hits 100k and that will take longer time to achieve. Yet accumulating is a good substitute for BTC.
2093  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are there play and pay later casinos? on: June 17, 2023, 02:30:32 PM
Gambling is a general market and casino is a part of it. Gambling can be done in different manners and if I read the OP's post well, his friend said he owes 60k in gambling not casino. They're multiple scenarios to that and the causes of that, Op should have asked him what kind of gambling he engaged in, maybe out of sympathy didn't remember to drop his response. I would say that maybe it was a peer to peer gambling between him and another person over a game or event that's about to happen. And in such gambling the both parties will provide their lawyers and they'll sign. Unfortunately he lost the bet and he is just obliged to pay the other person 60k, that means whenever he gets the money he'll hand it over to his opponent. That's how I view it as gambling happen in different forms not just in casinos.
2094  Economy / Services / Re: Instagram Comments Likes on: June 17, 2023, 02:14:58 PM
I don't think it will work for a big page with thousands of comments. I've seen panels that offer such services, but the ones I tried didn't deliver the order, it gets cancelled often times. I kept wondering why panels claim they offer the service when they're not. So, along the line I read on a panel that mentioned about using the service when the targeted post generates 10 comments atmost. That way it'll be easier for the bot to track the comment. Because the comments doesn't carry link, the bot looks for the username you insert during order. You can try with smaller pages, yet it doesn't sit right especially when everyone seeking for the service use it for advertising purposes. Smaller pages won't convert like the big pages.
2095  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is bitcoin unique? on: June 16, 2023, 10:21:56 PM
Bitcoin is unique because it's filled with surprises. The technology get everybody talking including the government. Bitcoin solves different kind of problem for people, provides jobs, stores and transmit data. It opened a door for people that don't trust the bank and they have never been a breakdown of the network. It's a masterpiece. Every transaction is recorded in a ledger without the need of third-parties. Lots of things happening around the existence of bitcoin shows that it's a surprise package to the world.
2096  Economy / Economics / Re: The SEC is right. It's not about Bitcoin, it's about centralized shitcoins. on: June 16, 2023, 09:45:16 PM
The SEC is not after bitcoin and they're endeavoring to keep citizens safe from losing their money, yet some of their actions is affecting bitcoin. Does it mean the SEC is letting bitcoin be? out of the blues, SEC that wanted bitcoin regulated is indirectly saying; bitcoin is above our capabilities. Nobody solely stands for bitcoin, who will they go for if they're after bitcoin. Unlike the CEX operating like banks in mediums that seem to help bitcoin rise, but are turns in bitcoin's flesh, the SEC can easily get the CEO of any CEX and fine them over illicit actions and activities happening on the exchange. If the SEC eliminates those shitcoins bitcoin will have a breathing space and investors can invest without fear of losing money. Many investors fall for shitcoins because they want to become early adoptors of the coin, they invest so much money, hoping to hit huge profits when the price of the shitcoin turns 1 or 3 dollars. If the money thrown into shitcoins is channeled to bitcoin, they would have been a better and price of bitcoin today. Out of greed investors get ripped of their money and end up with nothing.
2097  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you tired of waiting for the jump? Pls Hodl on: June 16, 2023, 09:29:10 PM
Patience is required to be a good investor in any asset/commodity class. The only people worrying about bitcoin at 26k are noobs or people who bought at 50k or higher. Bitcoin is volatile, it is what it is. If you have a regular job that can pay your bills then sit back & relax, bitcoin is going nowhere but up long term, everything else in between is just noise.

The irony here is that same people who bought at 50k wished for bitcoin to hit 30k before they buy, but they didn't have the patience to wait for the bear. That means they're just impatient both ways, I could remember telling someone not to put money into bitcoin at 50k, yet to no avail. I don't know what their thinking was, you know such people have big dreams, bitcoin hitting 100k must have been in their mind. The disappointment led lots of investors to take the loss and move away. Just few noobs that bought bitcoin at that amount would still be holding it till date.
2098  Economy / Economics / Re: The cost of living is trying to kill the living on: June 15, 2023, 10:35:08 PM
It is true that there are economic difficulties facing many countries, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on inflation. There are limits to how governments can effectively deal with these problems, and individuals should strive to be more independent in managing their finances. Even so, there can be many reasons why people are not able to take advantage of such opportunities, even if they do exist. Some individuals may lack the necessary skills, time, or interests. Others may face restrictions due to employment, health, or other personal circumstances. Addressing economic problems therefore requires a multifaceted approach involving not only individual efforts but also systemic changes, government policies, and institutions. support mechanism.
Well, in some countries even how hard and put your best in dealing with these hikes people are still struggling. I guess there is no skip on this one and we do have to deal on it with every inch that we can.

Rise of layoffs, high cost of living and inflation. Things are becoming harder this time but I still believe that it won't be like this forever, there will be some point maybe in the nearest future that everything is gonna be back at least at some point and that's an ease for many people.

Look for as much opportunity as you can and be wiser more than you can be in handling finances.

It's rare to find a person that believes the high cost of produces, house rents and devaluation of fiats will come to a halt in future. I don't doubt it, but such a beneficial change also needs a strong event to enforce it. Everything lies in the hands of the people and government. In some countries where prices of goods are not regulated, sellers may not reduce the prices of goods if the price drops. Countless times I've noticed that citizens also add to the difficulty we face today; economic meltdown, price hikes etc out of greed. It's hard to survive in a world with corrupt citizens and government.
2099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Are you tired of waiting for the jump? Pls Hodl on: June 15, 2023, 10:21:24 PM
This is not the first time bitcoin is experiencing price drop, it only needs few time; months or years to correct and hit another ATH. Few years back many investors took the loss and cashed out their money, believing that bitcoin settled for lesser price. Don't be in such a hurry to move out your investment; bitcoin is falling in price so that it can rise up again. Below is a tweet of a bitcoin investor 12 years ago, that should encourage people to hodl and hope for the best in the market. I know some will never sell, when it hits a high price, but for profits purposes there's no gain in withdrawing an investment now that the price is below or slightly above the amount you bought in the market. Unless you depend on the funds for survival or for other important dispute, keep holding on. Tom only had to wait for 6 years to meet the 2017 pump; a long time indeed! Isn't the wait worth it?

No form of response is wrong as long as it contributes to the learning behind the thread. How would you feel if you made a thread and nobody responded to it? Sometimes members find different means to fit into a discussion that seem difficult to understand or isn't controversial. like everyone said, no need to be sad about a member's criticism on a thread. Have you noticed that such abstract responses get merited by some members. Meaning that, while it gets you sad, other members find if funny. Along the line in the thread, when another member opposes the critic they may come back to explain in details why they responded that way to the OP. It's all fun and they must be something to learn from them; don't stop opening threads because of critics. Be a mature and playful member. It'll facilitate your journey.
