20961  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Will I brick a fixed frequency card by loading autofreq firmware? on: March 01, 2018, 10:49:38 PM
I have a couple of older fixed frequency S9s in my farm, including on 14TH one that is running at 13.6.

I'm just wondering what would happen I loaded one of the auto-freq firmwares?

My guess is that it would boot (controllers likely being compatible), but not find the cards?

Just thought I'd get some opinions before jumping...

can you pick any freq?  are those the older ones with many freq to pick from?

they allow  for a  fairly quiet s-9  if you run at freq 500 and drop fans to 60%

you should consider selling them as people that home mine and have sound issues like them.

As to flashing them  you better make sure you pick the correct firmware or you will brick the controller.

That's a great looking rig... I really like the modular design and that PSU is awesome.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Fedex sent me a notice it ships on friday the 2nd of march.

I am stoked to review it.

20964  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: March 01, 2018, 04:40:04 AM
how do you power the 7 powerful fans? i do not see enough fan headers on the motherboard. and server PSUs only have 6 pin connectors (no molex)

also, how does the motherboard get power? only from the 6-pin connectors? those are only 12v, what about the other required voltages (5v, 3.3v, etc) that are normally provided by the ATX 20/24pin connector? how is that handled?

third, is the power adapter to power an external SATA drive provided with the motherboard? sata drive needs 5v power, but that wont be present when using a server psu. so it would have to come from the motherboard.

I would think they have a 12 to 5 volt conversion built into the board

I pulled one filled sized pcie off the board  never bothered with it after that I suspect it could be repaired.

an asrock h81 pro btc  always had trouble getting this to work perfectly gave up trying but it would do 3 and 4 cards okay fail on 5 and 6

20967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer vs Onda B250 on: March 01, 2018, 12:57:54 AM
Belongs in altcoins mining I asked mods to move it.

I have multiple eight slot boards.

The Onda B250

Can use an i7 cpu with a 16gb stick of ram. And it can run Windows 10 using the CPUs intergrated graphics

And the boards hdmi jack.

I don’t like the short slot on the B250 the first slot needs a zotac 1080ti.

I don’t like that the B250 uses three sata and three molex which means a high end atx.

I can run 8x 1080 ti on the board but need to set the cards to 160 watts not to overload the atx psu.

So the B250 for me ends up running 6 1080ti hybrids set to 200 watts

My other eight slot is a k17 like octominer.

It allows for 8 hybrids set to 200 watts with a server psu.

But spaced tighter it tends to over heat.

It allows for any cpu and a 16 gb stick of ram

I have found 6 Evga 1080tis set to 200 watts work well.

Just about equal to the Onda B250

Octominers comes ten days.

I will test with 8 1080tis at 200 at 150 watts I will test at six with 200 watts.  I like the server option.

I have experience with a few of these units and they are formidable.

cant wait to see the new review.

Yeah I want to see how they run in less then ideal spots.

My garage will be hot.
It. Should  be good test.
20969  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Happy New Years! Seventh alt coin thread! on: March 01, 2018, 12:20:55 AM
I am sooo tempted to buy that D8p and a 1080 from you;  but I really need to keep biting my tongue and wait for the press release in a few days/weeks about the new generation of hardware.......

Ill be left with one last GTX960 shortly; and at home that will leave me with just it plus my 1070 until I buy more cards.....

the damaged d8p is gone

The fully good asus is gone

One asus with funky fan repair  is left.

I am looking to ship 3 asus.
And two mobos .

They are sold.

I’m down to 14 hybrids.
Three omen PCs
3 other 1080tis.

I will need to shift a lot to have a proper testing area for the 16 gpu rig.

I will test it in my garage and at the solar array

"prices of GPUs will continue to increase in 2018, despite expectations of decreasing demand in the mining sector.  ..."
-.-
Some of the retailers are really milking it too. Some are feeling self-righteous by only allowing you to buy one GPU citing pesky crypto-miners ruining it for gamers... yet they still charge 100% premium on said GPUs. Gotta love'em eh.

Every gamer I know and I know lots of them, mines while they sleep.

Phil how much for the TIs and how many?

1 fully good msi aero   ----------------------  this = 800
1 fully good asus turbo ---------------------- this  = 800
1 funky fan repair asus turbo --------------- this will be less as the fan repair voids  warranty

these are the 2 asus

I have a damaged b250 8 slot + 4 riser board.  I tore off 1 sata connection in an act of clumsiness but  someone with skills could fix it.

I would sell it to someone in  the usa for 35 usd in btc  that includes shipping.  It fits in a large flat rate box for gameboards

I'll definitely take you up on this if it isn't already sold.

You have a deal assuming you are USA based.

Give me a few hours to figure where I put it.

Hammers kill people.
Baseball bats kill people.

Quite a few things kill people.

So Bill Gates is correct if he said  cryptocurrency can be used to kill people.

Diamonds kill people
Oil kills people
Coal kills people
Gasoline kills people

Diesel fuel kills people ----------  Look what Volkswagen did  set up  the cars pc to cheat on pollution  sending out 100x the pollution  how many people died from this?

And btw they used pc's  so Mr Gates  Software kills people.
20977  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP!!! 4 Green Lights 1st One Dims and S9 Reboots No Network Connectivity on: February 28, 2018, 12:15:08 PM
disconnect the three boards from the controller  send power just to the controller.

so 2 wires

an eth cable to the controller

a 6 pin jack to the controller

do advanced ip scanner  to see where the controller is

http://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com/

get back to us if you find the controller
20978  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining motherboard - Onda B250 BTC-D8P - Anyone tried ? on: February 28, 2018, 04:34:11 AM
Its definitely the board. The three slots do not power up cards even with risers and on the fluke meter several traces never get power past a certain point.
I will seek a new source for the boards.
Phil do you have any left?
Thanks again everyone for the help.

By the way even though it does not really matter here is the CPU and Ram I am using.
Intel Core i5-7500 LGA 1151 7th Gen Core Desktop Processor (BX80677I57500)
Mushkin ESSENTIALS Series – DDR4 DRAM – 16GB Memory 2Rx8 Single Module SODIMM
Both we rated compatible and show up fine in the BIOS.

I can get out my ohmeter and check the traces. That is a good idea with a riser test as well.
I will let you know in a bit.
Thanks again.

I am going to dig around the bios as those three slots dont work even if there is only one card in the system and it is in one of them.
I have tested with a couple of my server GPUs as well with the same results. It is weird it is those three.

have you tried just one gpu;  rotating slots one at a time to see if its just the slots causing the problem?

What cpu? (just for knowledge)

Have you tried any BIOS setting changes?   I'm pretty sure its supposed to work right out of the box.... so not too sure about this being of help.  But who knows, maybe.

If I can help you find a solution, I will.

I have a populated board with no video cards to provide as a test-case if need be.

At least that's progress on figuring it out.

do you have expeirence with an ohmmeter and doing trace continuity checks?

I can take some measurement son my board, and see if yours correlate.....   maybe we can find the component that has a bad solder (what I would expect to be the case)

Oah and another good thing to try:
use a powered riser on each one of the three slots with a single video card;  see if its the slot power (which is what it seems) or if its the slot PCIE lanes that are knackered.

Pm sent
20979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Rig - fluctuating hash rates is this normal please on: February 28, 2018, 12:30:01 AM
Thank you.

The calculated hash rate in nanopool is varying from 102 to 0 but the reported hash rate is static at 39. Realistically the 102 is impossible so I am presuming the calculated hash rate is simply unreliable?

No  and neither is 0.

think of dice.    tossing  3 or 4 straight  sevens is hard to do  that is like  a 102 hash  rate  it will pop up once in a while

tossing snake eyes back to back is very hard  that is like the 0  it will pop up once in a while

39  avg  is the one to look at

if you do long term  37-41   you are good.

If you drop to 30 or 31 long term  something is wrong.

For arguments sake say 3 days = longterm.
