2101  Economy / Economics / Re: Fake Crypto News Of The Day: "Why Neo-Nazis Love Bitcoin" on: December 28, 2018, 09:41:19 AM
People in general suck at being decent and free from corruption. That is why we need control systems. All the control systems invented by our society have ended up suffering because of individual choices. The latest set of values that have gotten the most traction are Democracy and the liberal ideals. Spearheaded by Western consumerism, we are at a stage where culture and media shapes our political opinions in such a way that everything liberal is decent while everything conservative is dangerous.

The individual human failings have led to liberals becoming even more dangerous as they are zealously convinced of the righteousness of their rage against everything even remotely conservative. Decentralization of consensus is a challenge to the existing system with bitcoin being the most prominent working example. No wonder they want to imply that "Neo-Nazis love Bitcoin" ===> "Bitcoin lovers are Neo-Nazis"

I swear I tried. Going to pray first to one of my many Gods. I am thinking something the equivalent of:

2103  Local / India / Re: Decentralization as a solution to India's challenges on: December 26, 2018, 05:16:15 AM
Glad that you summarized the points OP. Merited your post.

I agree that we have been seeing a tendency towards centralization under the present dispensation. Yet, Modi Govt seems to be drowning in its own hubris. It is always going to lead to disaster trying to centralize decision making in a country like India. The lat time someone tried, it resulted in the 1975 Emergency.

Of course decentralization in products and services could be an efficient way out. Theoretically, this is a great idea. What we really need is to find use cases and build products that can showcase its feasibility. For that to happen, we are going to need people to focus on products and contributing to the crypto-economy rather than seeing it as simply an investment. We all could start on our own, especially those who still are in their student phase.

Hello! I am not able to access the spreadsheet right now so i don't know if any Sr. Member spots are left or not. Applying just to be sure. I have just been back from a 10 day vacation so you may see a gap in my posts in the last few days. I am very interested in a campaign of this sort with low number of qualifying posts and would love to be part of it, if any spots are still available.

Quote 5 of your posts over the last month which you think deserve merit. Okay not 5! Lets make it 2!

I'l gladly give it to you if you can find anything more than generic one-liners that add nothing to the discussion. For the time, I'll add you to the list here to see if you need merit or not.
Thanks for your time!

2107  Local / India / Re: Government panel recommends complete ban on bitcoin and other virtual currencies on: December 15, 2018, 05:23:04 PM
I don't know why a big name like CNBC aired this half truth news!!

The classic " One of the sources told CNBC-TV18, requesting anonymity" (of course). Now this will be taken as a source by another outlet and we'll have another "Reliance launching Jiocoin" round.

Sarcasm apart, if there is any grain of truth in these, and if indeed there is a blanket ban with the implementation of punitive measures for those dealing in cryptocurrencies, I am opening a new whatsapp group to tell people to never vote for Jaitley and his clan...LOL..
Let us hope this is just another rumor and we won't see such extreme measures for real.
2108  Local / India / Re: Decentralization as a solution to India's challenges on: December 15, 2018, 04:37:25 PM
The articles are crazy long. The website is crazy slow. Barring those two facts, you have made a lot of points. It would really help the discussion here at BCT if you could summarize your ideas for a discussion here. We don't often get thoughtful posts like these, especially not in the India section (At least not now, People do talk of a time when the old moderator Benson led the charge, the tale goes that he has been embroiled in issues with his business now).

Anyways, the idea that Decentralization in processes could solve the problems of a country like ours is just that, an idea which sounds great but is nearly impossible to put into action. As you yourself admitted that the current dispensation would never agree to this. Most of crytpo is being co-opted by the very institutions it was meant to be an alternative for. In terms of the changes in Central bank powers, this doesn't seem to be going very far at present.

I do agree with the last part that the capitalist service provider giants with their targeted advertisements and Algorithmic recommendations oughtta go the distributed way. A lot of projects are trying to do that by removing the trusted middlemen from these use cases. Its just that people are their own biggest enemies. We just can't find a bunch of people who would do this without keeping some of that power for themselves.

2110  Local / India / Re: Hackers Exploiting Flash Updates for Cryptojacking on: December 09, 2018, 05:14:37 AM
It was recently revealed that hackers have found yet another way to mine cryptocurrencies. Reportedly, they are employing fake Adobe Flash updates to install cryptocurrency mining malware on networks and user’s computers. This results in severe losses, a significant drop in system performance and increased electricity bills for the affected users.

While Adobe Flash has long been a popular method for pushing malware onto computers. It used to be easy to identify. Hackers have since come up with innovations that allow them to silently download cryptocurrency miners on Windows computers.

You are copying sections of article word-to-word without adding anything from your side.

The reference you have included is not the actual link to the article but just to the website. This is the complete link: https://coindelite.com/news/hackers-exploiting-flash-updates-for-cryptojacking/

Please be aware that this kind of behavior, particularly plagiarism of any kind will get you a permaban from the forum. I sincerely suggest that you either add something of your own and quote the actual article. This is viewed upon very seriously.
2111  Local / India / Re: Reliance Jio plans to launch its own Cryptocurrency 'JioCoin' on: December 09, 2018, 05:08:33 AM
This was some shit reporting back when bitcoin was around the ATH. (Dec/ Jan 2018). The article you quote in turn quotes this article as its source..
There is typical rumor mongering there. The article quotes, as usual, an anonymous source.
Quote
“The company plans to hire 50 young professionals with average age of 25 years for Akash Ambani to lead. There are multiple applications of blockchain (for the company). The team would work on various blockchain products,” a person familiar with the development said on condition of anonymity.

Then as usual the mail sent for official response from reliance remained unanswered.(As it generally remains with such speculations)

Quote
“One (application) is cryptocurrency. We can deploy smart contracts. It can be used in supply chain management logistics. Loyalty points could altogether be based on JioCoin,” the person cited above said, adding that all of this was “in proposal stage”.

An email sent to Reliance Jio seeking a response remained unanswered till press time.

This news was doing rounds in the India forum back then too. Pretty sure that nothing concrete materialized out of it. We do have to thank Reliance Jio for enabling the data infrastructure to keep things like mining and cryptocurrency have a chance at being mainstream.
2112  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: December 07, 2018, 04:03:44 PM
Congratulations o_e_l_e_o. I think you are the youngest member ever to join the Chipmixer campaign. To be honest, this was once one of my secret ambitions back in 2017, until real life took over and I had to slack off from the forum a bit. I think those 895 merits were enough reason for Darkstar_ to make that extra spot. its kindda adorable and really cool that he/she/they do it from time to time when there is a rush of exceptional applications.

Darkstar_ and Chipmixer are one of the few true bitcoin champions that still remain at the forum. Nothing but professionalism, meritocracy and a decent dose of fun from the members. I once started a topic in the Ivory Tower about how we need the old members/ early adopters to really be the guiding stars. Don't consider this a shameless shill of that topic and please do visit and share your thoughts on what you think about it. I am sure we can come up with some good ideas or stories you know about the champions already.

Ohh and I can't express my happiness enough at the honorary mention. Thank You! Smiley
2113  Local / India / Re: India to harness blockchain to bring more transparency and security on: December 06, 2018, 03:52:33 AM
I am talking about a private permissioned blockchain for land record keeping. --snip--
I agree that this problem can be solved without blockchain by creating a centralized and tamper proof record but the trust factor will still be missing. Whereas if it is on the blockchain we can create a system that is visible and validated by everyone. It is not the record keeping but the collection of the correct record that worries me. Makes it a mammoth task.

There are too many points here. If it is a private permissioned blockchain, that means instead of a single data center, Govt runs its own blockchain nodes to keep the data in sync. It may be visible to everyone but it won't be "validated" by everyone. In case of private blockchains, the central authority can anytime decide on what is valid and what is not. Isn't this just a veneer of change?

Like you said, keeping records tamper-proof is not the issue as much as collection of correct data. This again is an issue too big for blockchain. It's a "ethics in civil authority" kind of issue. With our population and education levels, its hardly possible to put enough checks and safeguards that are accessible to everyone.

Government expenses have already been digitized to an extent. The flow of money from Central/State government accounts to smaller recipients can be easily tracked. The main problem is the flow of money from the smaller accounts to the last mile.
The same can be said for the land records. Also, I didn't mean having "records" of Govt expenses. The ideal, fantastical aim is for the use of cryptocurrency itself for Govt expenses. That makes the expenses open to public scrutiny. Journalists and citizens can look up where the last penny went down to the petty contractors.
2114  Local / India / Re: India to harness blockchain to bring more transparency and security on: December 04, 2018, 05:26:29 AM
Record keeping services are unlikely to benefit much from migration to blockchain technology. Most of these blockchain solutions mean that the network is owned by the Govt on a permissioned blockchain. That takes away the feature of decentralization.

The only good use is for creating a money trail of Govt expenses. Right from the tax revenue to State allocations and down to the final contractor payments. Of course the governments would never submit to this. They want discretionary control over expenses. If the records of Govt expenditure are publicly available, it can greatly help with the corruption situation.

I wish some of these people asking advice would come back time to time to share if they used any of the sugeetions. If they did, how'd it work out for them.
I find it sortta annoying when people make advice thread and and then don't engage in discussion at all.
2117  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Missionary killed by Primitive tribe in India on: December 01, 2018, 06:39:11 AM
No hate here, buddy. Just pointing out the obvious attempts to construct moral justifications for murder of people of one particular style of religion, eg, Christians, in this thread.....

... the knuckle-dragging moronic posters here who defend and condone this murder have no facts.

It wasn't murder. The only fact we can accept is that John ended up dead because he wasn't supposed to be there..Just like people aren't supposed to fall into tiger cages and Moms aren't supposed to let toddlers wander off into Gorilla enclosures.

There can be no judgement on whether it was right/ wrong for the sentinelese to kill him. These people fire off arrows as a force of habit (Look at the orange undies guys aiming his bow at a fucking helicopter!!). It shouldn't be viewed as anti-christian to say that he died for the wrong reasons. It also shouldn't be viewed as the Sentinelese' fault to have killed him, which seemed to be the case from your initial replies.

2118  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Missionary killed by Primitive tribe in India on: November 30, 2018, 05:27:16 AM
You are the one who started off calling "other people" savages  with your "obviously pro-Christian" concerns.

The article is very biased and even a bit weird in it's orientation, and obviously anti-Christian, alleging he was engaging in "illegal and immoral acts."

You then continued to show your hatred because killing off the people and setting a resort there seems a better option to you.

Wipe the island clean?

Sounds interesting. I'm having some trouble getting sympathetic to these savages. Bows and arrows and solving problems by killing people.

Maybe a nice resort could go there?

And finally when someone calls the bullshit out by actually talking what this was about: An evangelist trying to force his teachings in an apparent attempt to conquer "Satan's last stronghold" (His own words too)., You take the moral high-ground by portraying yourself as the atheist and rationalist here.

Go ahead and condone murder.
....

I don't feel sorry for a person so wrapped up in dogma that he demands to push it on people that just want to be left the fuck alone.  Honestly I think it's ignorant of Christians to think it's their duty to make people believe the same as them, here's an idea for them, fuck off and leave people alone that don't want your dogmatic horse shit, or who believe another stupid dogmatic religion...  If you're shitty dogma is perfect and right the whole world will find it by themselves!

You don't need to rationalize your position that I invited you to. The hate is pretty thick, though. I may be an atheist, but not of your type.

Atheist or not, The hate is pretty thick with you too, Dear Sir.

The proselytizing tendencies of Abrahamic religions is a complex matter and this incident cannot be viewed simply as a "fool getting himself killed because he didn't know what he was getting into". John Allen Chau must have been a decent human being. But who is to say that he wasn't another brain-washed young man who didn't have any qualms while putting his life into clear danger in an apparent attempt to "save the natives". I doubt that he would have been so adventurous/ quixotic, had he known that the islanders will take his life.
As the article linked above highlights, if the Indian agencies had been a bit more professional, this could all have been avoided.
2119  Local / India / Re: Good News For Blockchain Developers in India on: November 29, 2018, 05:52:30 PM
Also we are preparing another report which is actually focused on India data so let me know if you have any requests or suggestions regarding what you'd like to have covered there.

1. This maybe a bit out of scope but if its an India-specific study then it'd be great to look for Node data for Bitcoin and Lightning Network (Number of full nodes running and geographical distribution within the country)
2. Other Mining activities like Ethereum GPU-mining and Masternodes.
3. Areas in which Blockchain developers from India are working on
4. ICOs from India based companies (Including the ones that failed/ scammed).
2120  Local / India / Re: Is there any future of Cryptocurrency in India ? on: November 29, 2018, 05:35:08 PM
Nope! I don't see much hope for cryptos in India under the current backward thinking government. The current government is busy building temples and statues apart from building schools and hospitals. This government is busy changing the names of various places apsrt from looking at the infrastructures of those areas. I don't have any hope for cryptos under such government.

LOL. Lets set things on fire here. Modi Modi..Yogi Yogii!!

I don't think the current government is backward thinking. The revival of right-wing has been a phenomena for sometime around the world. This government has been actively focussed on re-building the Indian identity but it constantly loses to its own more rabid instincts. At least, PM Modi uses all the right buzzwords.. Wink
