There is nothing wrong with your recommendations, but they will only be effective if a person follows all of them. For example, mixing your coins is a good idea. But mixing your coins and then having the device delivered to your home address under your real name defeats one of the purposes of mixing.

Delivering to PO boxes could be tricky depending on where you live and which courier does the shipping. When I order stuff online, I sometimes have to provide ID to the courier who feeds the information into the system. Staying anonymous doesn't work in that case. Some couriers in certain countries won't allow deliveries to PO boxes.
2102  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger rollback ledger live on: July 03, 2023, 03:47:44 PM
First of all, which Ledger hardware wallet do you have?

A) Nano S
B) Nano S Plus
C) Nano X

I am asking because the code that introduces Ledger Recover was only released for the Nano X.
The word is that the old Nano S won't ever support it, and the Nano S Plus will at one point in the future.

If you haven't upgraded your Nano X firmware, don't do it and leave it as it is. The version of Ledger Live doesn't matter. The version of your installed crypto apps are also of secondary priority when we are discussing the Ledger Recover code. I see no problems in keeping your crypto apps and Ledger Live updated. If it's a trust issue, why keep using your Ledger hardware wallet in the first place? Switch to something else and abandon it.
2103  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 03, 2023, 03:36:28 PM
Mempools are cleaning up and you can make your transaction with 8 or 9 sat/vbyte to get quick confirmation within 1 or 2 blocks.
https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#BTC%20(default%20mempool),24h,weight
I like what I am seeing. Hopefully we can see the mempools emptying to 100k or below in the next couple of days. That would be a good sign.

Problems with gambling sites and centralized exchanges are they always very delayed to update withdrawal fee in a decreasing side but very quickly to upgrade withdrawal fee when they need to increase it.
That's the way the world works. The price of gasoline is a good example. It quickly moves upwards due to any related price increases on the market, but when the situation stabilizes, businesses aren't as quick to reduce their profits.
2104  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🦊 Betnomi.com | Sportsbook & Casino 🎲⚽ on: July 03, 2023, 03:28:18 PM
Betnomi.com is down for 'unplanned' scheduled maintenance since last 24 hours! Maybe it is early to panic, but things aren't looking good as the time is passing by. Betnomi team haven't made any announcement about this maintenance on any of their social media platforms until now. @Pmalek, are  you aware of the current issue of Betnomi?
I am not, no. This is the first time I hear about it. I got a notification by my bot that you and Poika5 mentioned my name in this thread. If it's only been 24 hours (more or less), let's give them some time to see what happens. Nothing else anyone here can do. I think icopress used to be their campaign manager. Maybe I am wrong. @icopress do you know something more? Are you in contact with anyone from their team?
2105  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BIP39 mnemonic phrase. on: July 02, 2023, 12:23:15 PM
You can still import BIP39 wallets to Electrum though, but an Electrum seed will only work with Bluewallet.
I read a while ago that Sparrow wallet has internal support for Electrum-generated seeds, but they haven't implemented it yet. Maybe it's a topic they will reconsider in the future. Here is what they say about it:

Quote
Although it would be relatively simple to implement (as you note, Sparrow already supports the Electrum seed format internally), I've held off on doing so because:

it might be confusing to have two types of seed lists to choose from
I'm not sure it's a good idea to keep supporting such an isolated 'standard'
https://github.com/sparrowwallet/sparrow/issues/59

BIP39 was created by Trezor developers and it become a standard for most hardware and software wallets.
Electrum wallet later made some improvements and created their own seed phrase system, but they also support importing BIP39 phrase.
When Electrum came out, there was no BIP39 standard yet, so there was no way of them supporting it in those days, just like pooya87 pointed out.
2106  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor hacked (again) on: July 02, 2023, 11:56:24 AM
This makes no sense, since ColdCard is not open source but the code is still public and verifiable. This means you can not use their code for free in your own product, however just like in an open source code you can verify that it is not malicious.

To me that is not the best but acceptable solution.
It terms of code verifiability, there is no difference between Coldcard's code and that of other open-source solutions. If you know how to do it, you can verify both, just like you said. Because of that, saying I don't trust them means very little. You don't have to trust them, verify it. But we all know that verifying isn't possible for the majority of us, so we are back on trusting this or that.

dkbit98 not trusting Coldcard is probably related to the way they acquired the code they now use in their wallets. It's based on open-source code that they modified, and are now preventing other brands from using it. There was even a time when they referred to their code as open-source, when it wasn't. It's verifiable but not open-source. Unethical approach by Coldcard on that front. Their CEO is also a controversial figure that some people don't like.
2107  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Petition to remove Wasabi from recommendations of bitcoin.org on: July 02, 2023, 08:05:28 AM
I don't think Wasabi will be removed as a recommended wallet on bitcoin.org. Therefore, I think it's a waste of time to suggest that. It's not a waste of time to put up warnings of their most recent activities. Hard facts only, no subjective interpretations and emotional statements. Wasabi is a software that allows partial privacy if you pass the tests their blockchain analysis partner puts you through. That alone is a privacy invasion. If you don't pass the tests (for reasons unknown), you have also had your privacy invaded and declared unfit to participate.
2108  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: My worries with ledger on: July 02, 2023, 07:15:34 AM
I don't really understand the process by which private keys can be extracted from the Ledger device--do you have to be using Ledger Live for that to happen?
Their Recover feature has been put on hold for now, but I am pretty sure it would only work with Ledger Live if/once released. You would also need the latest firmware with the feature/vulnerability code present on your hardware wallet.

What if you have to update the bitcoin app?
That should still work through the My Ledger/Ledger Manager tab irrespective of your firmware version. You might have to install the latest Ledger Live version, though.

Fortunately Ledger Live is open source and capable of being reviewed by peers.  If some piece of code in previous releases of Ledger Live could have extracted seeds from the device, it'll be found sooner or later.
The magic is probably recorded in the code for the firmware, and as you know, it's closed-source. That's the part they have to open for the public. Anyways, it's too late now. If such an option was there in the past, they can just remove it, work around it, and open-source a slightly altered code.
2109  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor hacked (again) on: July 02, 2023, 07:00:22 AM
Open a discussion thread for your Cypherock Wallet where we can dissect it, if you haven't done already.
< This!

@rohanagarwal7 You should also avoid over-shilling your hardware wallet in other people's threads which you have been doing lately. Depending on the situation and/or mod, if those posts were reported, they could be deleted. That isn't something you want to see.
2110  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Devices 'Passport Batch 2' hardware wallet review on: July 02, 2023, 06:44:51 AM
I'm a little concerned on how the package is labeled. I'm pretty sure foundation isn't the most well known company anyway.
You can read a bit more about the way the package looks in n0nce's unboxing part of his Foundation Passport (FE) hardware wallet review and walkthrough. As he explained, the Batch 2 is also shipped in the same white box with a security seal. Once you open it, you should see this:

There aren't any clear markings either on the outer box nor on the inner one that you are dealing with a hardware wallet. The Foundation logo is on the upper cover, but you would have to be familiar with it to know what it represents.
2111  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Table] Withdrawal Fees and Withdrawal Amounts on Crypto Casinos on: July 02, 2023, 06:33:07 AM
A little correction is required here. OwlGames minimum withdrawal limit is 0.001 BTC, but you have added 0.0001 BTC in the table.
I changed it now to the correct number. Thanks again!

Aren't you going to add USD/EURO to crypto exchange rate code? It won't be bad to use that code instead of the 'equivalent in BTC'.
I have added the correct code for all exchanges that I believe should have it. The page struggles to display all the information, but the code is in the table. The info $X equivalent in BTC will remain for those casinos that don't have a fixed BTC amount for withdrawals and instead change it every time based on the current exchange rate.

I also used some casino websites in last  several weeks and I noticed big increase in withdrawal fees, but like you said this was probably caused by many stuck transactions on bitcoin blockchain.
This is now all back to normal and I dont understand why casinos would not return fees back to normal states.
The Ordinals spam is still an ongoing issue. We currently have around 250.000 of unconfirmed transactions sitting in the mempools. This number will probably increase during business days by another 50-100k, so the situation is far from optimal.
2112  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Devices 'Passport Batch 2' hardware wallet review on: July 01, 2023, 11:59:14 AM
Do they ship discreetly? And if I read correctly passports are shipped UPS with tracking. correct?
What do you consider discreetly? Unless something changed, Passport Foundation allows shipping to PO boxes. You can also pay for your hardware wallet with Bitcoin through BTCPay Server, which is another privacy boost. Regarding shipping methods, I guess it depends on your country/location. I know that Foundation works with USPS and UPS, maybe other couriers as well.
2113  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Another crap Amazon wallet find: Material Bitcoin on: July 01, 2023, 11:19:14 AM
Another thing that I noticed is that they have 3 different types of steel plates. Apparently, the Standard and Customized plates have a sticker on the back that protects the private keys. the 3rd one, DIY, allows users to engrave 12-word seed phrases.

The DIY is the only steel plate that makes sense because you can use it as a metal backup for one of your wallets. And that plate is the cheapest at $59. The other two where you have to use the private keys they generated cost $89 and $199, and include bullshit features like your real name written on the top, etc.

But there is no need to worry because the company offers a

100-year guarantee.

2115  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Another crap Amazon wallet find: Material Bitcoin on: July 01, 2023, 07:38:43 AM
This is the equivalent of a paper wallet but on a steel card.
I have just had a look at their website, and there are some goodies there.

They claim they use military-grade security and that they have developed a wallet (it's not a wallet) that is immune to hackers.
After the card gets shipped to you, they will fund it with the amount you want. Huh

I really love this part:
Quote
You don't need to rely on anything to use your Material Bitcoin Wallet.
You need to trust their unhackable method of adding a metallic security strip over the private key that absolutely no one can see. But hey, don't focus on that. Focus on Buy bitcoin with the safest wallet in the world.

Let's talk about how to withdraw your coins from the wallet. After you peel off the military-grade metallic security strip Roll Eyes, you have to manually enter the private key into whatever wallet you are using character by character.

Check out their tutorial on how to do it on a phone where they suggest installing a different mobile wallet:
Quote
Take off the metallic strip covering your Material Bitcoin’s private key and copy all the digits into the notepad app on your mobile phone.
Copy and paste it into the Blue Wallet app by clicking on the “Paste” button to import your Material Bitcoin’s address.
Erase the first 6 digits (p2wpkh:) and click on the “Import” button to link the Blue Wallet app to your wallet.

That's how the military does it btw.

<Snip>
That's great and it looks good.
I will begin making the changes later today to see how it works. Hopefully there won't be any issues since there will be many instances where I will use the code in the OP.

When is the last time you checked if withdrawal amounts are correct for listed websites?
I am sure that many need to be updated. Last time I checked was the end of April. After the network fees exploded following the Ordinals hype, many casinos increased their withdrawal fees as a result. I decided to wait to see if the situation will calm down. But nothing has changed even several months after. We still have hundreds of thousands of unconfirmed transactions in the mempools and higher than usual fees.

After I update the code according to bitmover's suggestions, I will go through the table and change the numbers one by one. I adjusted the info for BC.game and OwlGames as Mahdirakib suggested yesterday.
2119  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Predicting Sports Betting Future Trends and Technologies on: June 30, 2023, 04:32:17 PM
What we can observe is that stricter regulatory frameworks are coming to crypto. Anonymous betting isn't going to be a thing in the biggest bookmakers in the future. We already have many crypto casinos that require KYC or make you believe identity verification isn't required. It's not, as long as you are losing.

I don't think AI will help players make better betting decisions in the future. AI can analyze stats and data and determine the most possible outcome. The match still has to be played, and there are absolutely no certainties in sport, regardless of the odds.

I have never seen any attraction in eSports betting and I doubt that will change in the future. However, people love to play video games and they love to gamble. Combine the two and you got yourself a winning combination.
2120  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger firmware update on: June 30, 2023, 04:15:39 PM
Seems like the fear that the wallet provider is the attacker kind of goes away with open source projects, verify signature, etc.
Only partially. The software is the biggest concern, and that's where most of the attacks happen and where hackers abuse the vulnerabilities they find. But connected hardware can also be dangerous. What makes you trust your keyboard? Why do you trust the individual chips on your motherboard when you have no idea what you are doing? Etc., etc.
