First do you have a kwatt meter?

Second mine Equihash.

Set watts at 60

Check power draw on kwatt meter

Then check to see if they do equal hash.

Then go back to ETH

Set watts at 60

Check power draw on kwatt meter.

21122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: February 18, 2018, 02:01:02 AM
since bitmain opened the last batch it hasnt sold out... either they have hat  production by a lot, or there is some backroom information that the big companies arent buying any letting the small ones take the hit, considering there are news about smaller artichips and samsung coming to the game and a lot of people with big farms selling all their S9's; brings me some fear (since i got a order open for march) that they are either coming with a new miner or some other big news is coming out, anyone else with these thoughts ?

I just signed up to post this here. I think the math doesn't add up anymore for 16nm chips. Unless you are doing liquid cooling and even that is almost breakeven.

Wow, interesting article that mathematically proves bitcoin mining to be useless already (or in the very near times to come). It will be interesting to hear the other guys comments here.

If you believe that article mathematically proves bitcoin mining to be useless right now you do not understand what a math proof is.

Trust me the article shows a possible outcome that may be true or may be false. No more or less then that.

It based all calculation on a 10k btc.

And we are now over 11 k.
So it is already wrong.

Of course in the morning price may be 12k

Or 9 k

Or back to 10k

It also assumes 13% will continue well it may or may not .

But if we stay at 10 k price with 13% diff per month we will bust.

That could happen. That is possible. But the closer we get to busting out. Growth will go flat.

I can run 13kwatts 24/7/365 in a 1.2 acre solar array that has been paid off.

Yes I would earn less btc if diff goes up up and away but if I want I can use gpus and mine other coins.

I am not the only miner with gear and miners paid off.

I sent you 7 Merit points as  it is a beautiful piece of work.

@phil and wheelz

I have a new miner batch script that allows manual updates/changes to algo/mining remotely;  and without logging into the individual machines themselves.  For windows machines.

I got my batch to be able to control other apps and be more versatile, In the future  wanted to be able to swap between different sites if need be...  I need to figure out if the nicehash miner has an auto-start function (im sure it would) so that its process can just be called and cancelled as necessary from the batch requiring no user intervention.... as well as add other major pool settings/configs...  I finally got the auto-updating to work properly, and have the right amount of recursiveness in it.

One of my next major hurdles is making the config in one big file, and making the batch able to retrieve multiple variables from the single file;  rather than the individual files I am using now.

Premise:
upload a text file to a URL that contains one word;  the instruction for the miner to follow.
The miner app fetches the contents of this file and uses it as commands for what to do.
It also can update itself on the fly; as-in delete/add any missing/unnecessary miner apps missing from the system;  as well as update itself (its own batch code) as features are added.

For Wheelz:
I've been doing well with Lyra2v2, NIST5, Xevan, Skien, and equihash coins FWIW.

I can’t write scripts but if you need help with this let me know.

I can set up one pc with one or two 1080tis at my house for you to access.

I  can access wheelz two rigs with smos and switch algos for him.

I built two rigs for him with smos and use my email account with smos to change them.

If you can develop this with win10 it would be nice.

I can also ship a 1080 ti for you to play with.

Oh coins have topped 11k
21125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 18, 2018, 12:36:43 AM

Thanks, I don't know how I managed to overlook corsair. Is it safe to use a dual head cable to connect both motherboard slots, or 2 gpu's from one PSU outlet?

A single cable with two heads like the link I gave you has been used by me to do
A 1080ti at 200 watts.

And two 1070tis set to 110 watts each.

That would be 220 watts .

I am running the Corsair now with 7 1080tis set to 180 watts each.

The kwatt meter reads 1350 so far so good.

I have two eight slot boards but not this one.

So far the Corsair is good.
21126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 18, 2018, 12:31:53 AM
I moved cards around today in my Octominer.  I went from this config:

0 Zotac 1070 Mini
1 MSI 1070 Sea Hawk X (hybrid)
2 Nvidia 1070 FE
3 MSI 1070 Sea Hawk X (hybrid)
4 MSI 1070Ti Aero
5 EVGA 1070 FTW Hybrid
6 MSI 1070Ti Aero
7 EVGA 1070 FTW Hybrid

Which worked great with no issues.

My new config is:

0 Zotac 1070 Mini
1 Nvidia 1070 FE
2 Nvidia 1070 FE
3 EVGA 1070 SC ACX 3.0 (5173)
4 EVGA 1070 SC ACX 3.0 (5173)
5 EVGA 1070 SC ACX 3.0 (5173)
6 EVGA 1070 SC iCX (6173)
7 EVGA 1070 SC2 iCX (6573)

For the life of me, I can't get the EVGA SC 6173 working.  This GPU works fine in the rig I pulled it from.

The problem follows the card, not the slot.  I have moved the cards around, only the 6173 won't work.

I booted into Ubuntu 16.04 (nvOC), exact same issue.

So this is the trouble card:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b3658/evga-gtx-1070-sc-acx-3-0

Anyone else run this card yet on the Octominer board?  Seems odd that it would not like this one card?

I dropped the 6173 into another rig I just build.  Works fine.

Go figure...

I have had cards like that.  Mystery never solved I just moved them to a board they worked on.
21127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU fans started failing, had to improvise a little on: February 17, 2018, 08:23:44 PM
When you guys replace failed fans, do you plug the new fans into the power supply or are you using the board GPU to power the fans?

both  depends on what is easy on that rig
21128  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [150TH] [PPLNS 0.5%] Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com) on: February 17, 2018, 08:01:05 PM
How can this happen?

12 blocks found in 2016
Zero blocks found in 2017, exactly at the moment
in which i joined this pool.
What are the odds of this?
I'm an unlucky one, I think.

Not really  what killed blocks was btc price range.

In  2016  1 btc  at nicehash  could rent a lot and give you about a 1 in 12 shot at a block  from July 15 or so on well maybe more like a 1 in 13 shot at a block

for all of 2016  1 btc was less then 910

so  I could rent  1 btc 1 time a month  for under 500.

As  price shot up in Nov 2016  above 500  from Jan 2016 to Nov 2016  I did 2 or 3 btc in rentals  Spent  well under  2000 doing it.

Last year it was 900 to 19500  and now it is   10,700  I can not spend 1 btc 2 or 3 times  this year.  Same is true for most of use renters  so hitting a block is harder.

3  misses at 10,700 = 31100 usd
3 misses at   500 =  1500 usd
21129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 17, 2018, 04:14:12 PM
Anyone know the exact power requirements for the motherboard? The case only really seems to have mounting brackets for ATX form PSU's, and I've yet to find a PSU from a reliable manufacturer that has 10 pci power cables for 8 cards + 2 for the motherboard. Using multiple power supplies defeats the purpose of the 4u rack mount case, so I was hoping to power the motherboard with some combination of molex to 6 pin connectors. Is there a safe and electrically sound way to do that, or do I need to roll the dice with a lower quality PSU manufacturer?

the hi end  corsair  has 10 pcie jacks  which  can do dual head cables  this means 20   6+2 pin  pcie cables

My $0.05

Surely this will just push the ETH devs to actually get around to rolling out POS?

Then the hash-rate currently pointed at the ETH network will migrate to all the other many dagger/hashimoto coins - like eth classic, Pirl, Ubiq, expanse, etc, etc.

Which means the prices of all those other coins will drop due to miners who just dump/trade to BTC every day and the ETH price will start on a steady climb....

if they get the whole POS thing right of course.

They wont push anything just because of asics it needs to be done right, and just because something uses pos doesnt mean it just makes the price climb.  There is not one or 2 reasons pruce goes up or down there is an entire market force behind that as well.

POS  = piece of shit

simply wont work  basically  it is  interest on a bond or in a bank account.

So If I get 3% on a USA bond now

what  would a 100% pos need to pay  well since it is backed by nothing  I would not want one unless it paid 10X  the fed 30 year rate

but Phil  the government bond has  no backing no gold no silver.

Yeah  it has backing  of the US military  lots of guns missiles tanks soldiers etc.

Most  Fiat  is backed now by the countries weapons.  Since they went off gold and silver standards.

It is fucked up but true.  Most people  don't want to get killed  by their governments  so they agree to accept the money standards.

So Eth at pos = disaster.
My worry  is not ETH  and bitmain  making something more efficient to mine it.

My worry is they use this with every coin there is.  That = disaster.

Here is why  in the mining game  if you have  every factor controlled  other then coin diff and  coin price  you will make money.  Maybe not as much as you want  but money none the less.

I can control every  factor of mining using gpus
I can not control every factor of mining using asics.

Ie an evga  1080ti  with a 3 year warranty
mining  zec will earn 2-6 usd a day  for up to 3 years  that is 1095 days

at 2 dollars = 2 x 1095 = 2190
at 6 dollars = 6 x 1095 = 6570

every factor  is controlled  the waterblock card costs  850

my  power cost factor is always 50%

  so 2190/2 = 1095 - 850 = 245 profit

and 6570/2 = 3285- 850 = 2435 profit

I simply cant do this with asics.
I am not the only person  that can control  all factors except diff+price
I use the solar array deal I have with buysolar
I use long warranty gpus
I do sell them  used when a good time comes around to sell them

If bitmain makes all asic all the time for all coins  it will kill me off simply because I can not  guarantee 3 year run time for the gear.

I repeat  I am not the only person  doing this.

If you mine to a bigger solar array like I do 160 kwatt/ 5 = 32 kwatt 24/7/365

you have free power up to 32 kwatt a day please note you need to be grid tied with a good government to do this New Jersey is good as are some other states and countries.

I can not lose  with my deal unless the gear breaks down  so to me asics suck  gpus are good.

It will be very interesting to see how this shakes out.

I'm up and running with 8 cards under windows with no issues.  I never did anything in the BIOS except tell it to boot from USB the first time to do the windows install.  I downloaded the latest ISO directly from Microsoft, stripped out all the bloat to make a light "miner" version.  I then installed into 120GB Msata from USB using the built in VGA port.  Once it was installed, I let it go out and grab all the latest updates.

I then installed a single GPU and installed the latest Nvidia drivers (all done with VGA monitor still connected to the mobo).  Once that was done, I shut down and added 7 more cards and started back up again.  It took Windows about 20 minutes to properly see and load the drivers for those additional 7 GPUs.  Once that was done, I installed Afterburner, Afterburner Remote Server and Awesome Miner Remote Agent.

Went into Awesome Miner on my workstation, added the Octominer, and away I went mining.  Very smooth from start to finish.

Hashing away with nice low temps despite running with no lid:

And some pics of the rig.  I'm running a 2400W Delta PSU temporarily until I decide what I want to put in it.  I'm also running 4 hybrid 1070's for right now since they needed a home and I'm still waiting on some other mobos to come in.  It will be converted to all air cards soon, but I didn't want to leave any cards sitting around not hashing.  Smiley

...

I'm overall pleased with the Octominer, but do have a few minor gripes as follows:

1. The silk screen showing the front panel pin-out is obscured by the mSATA device.
2. The polarity for the front panel HDD header is missing.
3. The Delta fans are nice 4 wire (PWM control), but both the RPM and PWM wires were cut off, leaving only GND and 12V.  It would have been nice if those wires had been left intact in case I wanted to ever use those fans in another application.  A 4-pin fan header to 2-pin Molex plug would have been ideal.
4. There is no provisionings for screwing down the Octominer server PSU within the "ATX PSU" space.

I know, very miner gripes, but I wanted to mention them.   The key thing is that the board itself is very stable and works well, even with Windows.  The board was able to to detect my Logitech USB Bluetooth dongle for my wireless keyboard and mouse, something that I cannot say was true with either my Onda nor Coloful mobos.

where did those good looking waterblocks come from? Grin

they would work good on a four slot biostar  z170 mobo Grin

To be on topic  this look like  a good setup  if noise is not an issue.

The deltas will cool well enough but it is more a warehouse build not a basement build

I have one to spare with 16 cables.

And since I paid far under 250

I can sell mine for 200 free shipping to the lower 48 states

Plus I will toss in a free power cable.

Only have 1 unit for sale

I personally think this was an advertising method and if you look at the thread  it has lots of info and post and interest.

What in the what? No, just no.

In no sense of the matter does it make any sense to be unreachable, and provide zero information, zero product for review, zero viable photos/video for the public. It is just careless and foolish to be so shit at marketing, no matter the product.

The Chinese aren't "innovative" in any fashion, they just steal from everyone else since intellectual property doesn't exist there.

69 pages and many hits  has attracted many included me and you  so how dumb are they?

Phil as you know in pretty new to gpu mining only couple months in last couple years ive been asic only.  With my mix of 1070 and 1080 nvidia cards what are some of the best coins to mine.  I know i know do research but i know some coins are better to mine with amd cards others with nvidia cards just getting a feel for the lay of the land

Nvidia and zec using smos are tried and true.

Windows offers  more choice for exotic coins and nvidia .

I like a mix of rigs windows and smos .

I mine more Zec on nicehash that converts into btc using nvidia.

Why? Most gear is at the solar array and I do not have full access 24/7

And smos doing zec at nicehash is very reliable.

I was usin the 2 omen PCs with Windows and mining a shit coin til this morning. I then took them to the array
And I am mining all zec with nvidia.

My 1 amd rig is doing xmr on Windows 10

It is a ryZen and some rx 580s.

That rig earn 5 usd and after power 4 usd.  It would roi in 1 year.

Except it earned more back in nov and dec

I have seen Evga issue new 980tis. So I suspect amd makes new rx 470s and new rx480s

Asics blow they suck basic reason is terrible after market service and warranties.

Your article is interesting Nvidia makes a tweener chip only good for mining.

Well it means they believe in mining having enough legs to dent the gaming market.

I do want you to understand  I have quite a few gamer people I sell rigs to every one mines.  About 30 of 30 people.

Most do so while sleeping. So  Nvidia will do well to consider that gamers will be pissed  that their 2080 or 2070 or 2080ti  does not earn back coin to make it a cheap card.

Would love to see how it all unfolds.  I am cash heavy right now.

I sold 21 1070's
 I sold multiple  case builds
I sold a few 1080tis

all of them sold  at prices just above retail after I mined them for 2-4 months.

I still have 28 1080tis left  I will hold them and mine them for a bit.

I am asic free other then  4 usb sticks from sidekick and 8 usb sticks from jestanop.

21138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: equihash difficulty bomb? on: February 16, 2018, 05:59:07 PM
@ soulforged. thanks for the input. yea i use whattomine to gauge profitability, but always take it with a grain of salt. usually equihash nicehash is up there in the top 3. was surprised to see it around HUSH in terms of btc revenue over 24hr estimate.

@phil your answer was on point. i never thought of it like that. so if zec sees a price boost in satoshis, our nicehash profitability rises, if i understand correctly?

@greenfailure - if more people are trying to throw hashes at zcl for the fork, wouldnt that drive up the demand for our power?

thanks folks, gave me some food for thought. i was mining zec/zen in 2017 early 2018. switched over to nicehash on jan 31st because i found that btc was seeing more %age growth recently than zec (this is not budging) zen had a nice pump and is now stagnating. maybe i should look into setting up a zen secure node that everyone is talking about. only 42 zen for a node doesnt sound bad for a hodler. i gotta say, people that hodl privacy coins have got to have some of the strongest hands in the game. these coins DO NOT pump until every other shitcoin gets their day. lol heres to the white knuckles

diff does matter

but  zec price to btc price matters just as much

technically on nicehash  it is more complex  then  zec price to btc price ratio

it is combined equihash price values + nicehash demand(charge to rent) to  btc price ratio

my simple example  was just zec to btc.

but on nicehash  all coin prices under algo create a number that renters will pay you.

that number  I reduced to zec only to keep it simple.

and of course  the diff factor has  the same issue  since it is many diffs  under the one algo

why are you mining eth with nvidia?

try  mining equihash  at 75% tdp 100 core and 500 ram

9 Vega 64 now struggle to make $9 a day

Think about that...

4 1080tis struggle to make $10 a day

Think about that....

Now ask your self will a Vega 64 ever go back to $499 in price?

Your problem is you that you think too much about it in fiat.  Who gives a fuck about fiat?

The large number of us that have BILLS to pay.

Everyone has bills to pay.  If you didn't over extend yourself to begin with (not saying you, just in general), you would have money to pay your electric costs out of other funds as opposed to cashing out crypto at the wrong time to do it.

There are lots of reasons to sell off gear. Then buy some back later.

In December I had 60k in gear and I now have 20k in gear.

But If I sell a pair of 1080tis for 1500 in btc  today at 10000 a btc  I get .1500 btc

If I sold a pair of 1080ti's at same price in december I get 0.0750 btc

In both case fiat is =  but btc 2x depends on how you think of it.

Fiat is a key part of your math  in this game.

Gear availability
gear reliability
power cost
coin prices
diff for coins

your ratio of gpu to asic to cash to debt to power cap to heat cap to cooling cap to diff to coin price all matters.

Mining will do fine for the time being.  But long run they may want to force out the smaller players.
