If they couldn't they would likely try to save the face by pretending that the Falklands are too far from the motherland and they are not worth a penny. Right now it is Argentina who is in a position like this. Really, what prevents them from taking these wretched islands with force if they are so close while Britain is so far?
It seems to me that at this point of time Argentina is not that interested in forcibly asserting its sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. The Argentine economy is not doing that great. But there is another important factor as well. The military strength of the UK is going down with every passing year. The Argentines may be waiting for the UK to become really weak, before they could wage a war against them. |

There is no point in nuking the Arab nations, as the Muslims have spread all around the world (perhaps with the exception of certain nations such as Japan, South Korea, Belarus, Bhutan, Laos, North Korea.etc). Western nations will be Muslim majority by 2050 or so. Unless they use nukes first, including if they do so by giving the nukes to one of their hundreds of terrorists groups which do their bidding. In such a case, bye bye Tehran. Among the Muslim majority nations, I have a feeling that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are much more likely to use nuclear weapons when compared to Iran. Right now, all the attention is focused on Iran and North Korea, which I think is a wrong move. |

Solar panels require a lot of work, only work where there is a lot of Sunny days. No I think solar panels is intermediate between the technologies that can really solve the problem of departure from hydrocarbon dependence.
Since solar panels only work during the day, and the transmission losses are great, it is not really a substitute for the thermal energy. Solar energy needs storage in the form of batteries, which is expensive and makes the whole concept unaffordable. |
