Rain is adding a lot of uncertainty to this match. If it was a normal 50-over match, then Sri Lanka would be easily in a winning position. But the overs have been reduced, and even more interruptions are expected for the remanded of play. Also, I strongly doubt that the frequent interruptions helped Pakistan in a way, by allowing them to regroup and rethink on the strategy. It has been frustrating for the Sri Lankans, who need to get on and off the field very frequently. And now the partnership between Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan is adding valuable runs for Pakistan and taking them towards a very decent total.

Except for Trent Boult, every New Zealand bowler's performance was poor. Boult's bowling was also controlled. And he picked up 5 important wickets to restrict the England team to 368 runs. If Boult had not bowled so well, England would have given a target of more than 400 in this match. But I was very disappointed with Jemison and Ferguson's bowling. They are good enough bowlers. However, these two bowlers have performed very poorly in this match. They gave more than 8.5 runs per over. The ODI World Cup is not too long away. A poor performance by the bowlers at such times is risky for New Zealand

It also shows the extent of damage franchise T20 leagues are doing to international cricket. Trent Boult is a hot commodity across different leagues around the world. He is playing for New Zealand after a huge gap. And I am not sure whether he will play for them regularly after the ODI World Cup. If a team like New Zealand is facing this issue (losing players to franchise leagues), then you can imagine the condition of teams like West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe. The ICC need to come up with a mechanism that is acceptable for all the sides, so that international cricket doesn't get sidelined by leagues.
2143  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: September 14, 2023, 05:55:13 AM
You're right though, because Germany new squad are incredible in games but they don't mean business as the former players. These new players are just in for entertainment and I see no seriousness in them, always struggling to fit in, perhaps they have big names. Germany sacked there headcoach this season, after a humiliating defeats against Japan. The board keen on an upgrade in the national team, they're yet to appoints any coach, besides they have some good coach on their rader, they will take thorough time to grab a prominent coach to manage the national team.

Let's not forget the fact that Germany is regarded as one of the favorites to win Euro Cup next year by the bookies. But their recent performance is just pathetic. And it is not just limited to the loss against Japan (they lost to Japan during the world cup as well). Look at the younger German players who are currently playing for the national team. Players like Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané can't be compared to Marcus Rashford or Kylian Mbappé. Despite playing regularly for quite sometime, they are yet to achieve notable success at international level.

England won the match yesterday against New Zealand. I also hoped that England would cross the 400 plus but Stockes got out. Stockes and Mallen did a good partnership up to some time but Mallen was out, If you noticed the whole England team without Mallen and Stockes got out on just 10 and 3 rums only. If Stockes did not do many runs then maybe they lost the match but somehow the New Zealand team also did such a poor beating like Pakistan yesterday. They gave their wicket one by one, why one should not hold their wicket , If they played calmly I am sure they would beat the England team.

New Zealand is increasingly looking hopeless. Trent Boult was the only Kiwi bowler who troubled the England batsmen yesterday. I don't have much hope for them for the ODI World Cup, which is less than a month away. Hopefully their bowling will be better once Southee, Henry, Santner and Milne are back to the squad. But the way Jamieson and Ferguson have performed so far has been very disappointing. These two are crucial players for New Zealand and their current form is not up to the mark. And on batting, the absence of Williamson is having a big impact.

Dunith Wellalage and Shadab Khan are the players to look forward today. Both are good spinners and have the ability to bat. I am still not aware whether Naseem Shah will be playing today. If not then it would be another blow to the Pakistani bowling attack. Hoping to see another thrilling match today.

I can understand what you are saying about Wellalage, but Shadab Khan? He is the primary reason why Pakistan lost to India. Pakistani spinners were completely out of sorts and the Indian batsmen treated them like club bowlers. I don't understand why it is so hard for Pakistan to find quality spinners from their domestic setup. This is the same country that once produced legendary spinners like Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Danish Kaneria. Even Shoaib Malik and Yasir Shah were good, but now they have ordinary spinners like Shadab Khan.
2146  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: September 14, 2023, 05:23:38 AM
@Sithara007 this will be an very interesting tournament for sure and will provide the Indian fan’s with one more T20 event to watch. Furthermore do you think that BCCI is grooming Laxman to takeover from Dravid because he’ll be the coach for the Indian team in this tournament, and I also feel that player’s who perform here well could be considered for future selection’s if anyone from the starting 11 of team India (T20 team) starts to underperform.

I know that a lot of people are not happy with Dravid. But my opinion is different. I believe that he has done a great job so far. Obviously Kohli and Rohit are not happy with him since he is not allowing them to have a free reign in team selection. The team that India has sent for Asian Games is consisting of young and emerging players. It is a good opportunity for players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Jitesh Sharma and Rinku Singh to claim a slot in the senior side. For players like Umran Malik, it represents an opportunity to make a comeback.
2147  Economy / Economics / Re: I wonder if food prices in your country have also increased? on: September 14, 2023, 04:31:12 AM
Here in India, food prices are quite unstable at the moment. For example, a couple of weeks back, the price for tomato went up to $2.5 per kg. But now they are trading for $0.30 per kg. Similarly, sunflower oil a few months ago used to cost $10 per 5 liter bottle. The same now costs just $6. The same pattern can be observed for most of the fruits, vegetables and even for fish and meat. I am not sure why this volatility is there. Ever since the NDA government came to power in 2014, prices used to be stable. This is the first time we are witnessing such volatility.
2148  Economy / Economics / Re: India Expands G20 Membership to G21 During Its Presidency. on: September 14, 2023, 03:54:31 AM
The G20 is a platform for the Bretton Woods system, which was created to extend the life of this system. India is the chairing country this year, so they cannot help but participate, and the presidents of China and Russia did not participate because there are no topics to discuss. The old economic system is beginning to collapse, and new models have not yet been provided, except for dividing the world into currency zones.

China is being punished by the Western nations, for the help it is providing to Russia during the last few years. Also, the Taiwan issue is getting bumped up again and again. And it is easy to see who is benefitting from all this. A lot of western manufacturers are moving their factories from China to other Asian nations such as India, Vietnam and Philippines. India in particular is benefitting immensely. They are getting cheap hydrocarbons from Russia, and at the same time Western investors are also pouring their money into that country.
2149  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: He Committed Suicide After Losing School fees, And That Of Friend To Betting.. on: September 14, 2023, 03:43:17 AM
Probably had some good luck at first and then started to lose money; the natural reaction of a newbie who is losing money to this kind of situation is to chase losses and it is even easier to imagine someone in his situation to do such thing. He kept his problems secret so there was no one who could talked to him how gambling works and it is supposed to be treated as entertainment.

Ironically, he thought that talking about his problems with his family was not an option and choose to finish his life. It was more probable that his parents could have forgiven him eventually and could have recovered all in the future. He even had more chances not to do what he did if he had joined here in the forum and let people to advise him on what to do, there are experienced gamblers around here after all. He could have learnt instead chasing that money deeper into a bottomless pit.

Let's take a probabilistic scenario, where the kid garnered enough courage to contact the parents about this issue. How the parents could have reacted? In 90% of the cases, they would be angry and there is a good chance that they would kick him out of the house. Awareness needs to be spread not just among the juvenile gamblers, but also among their parents on how to provide support. Initially, monetary losses would be too much to fathom for some of the parents. But they need to realize that human life is more valuable than any amount of money.
2150  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: September 14, 2023, 03:15:36 AM
That's mostly because Neymar is not a stable player and he has unstable performance usually. Also, he was injured for months in PSG and this definitely affected this palyer we can't expect more from Neymar. Also if you are comparing Neymar with other players like Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Brazil, you are wrong because players were not alone in their team, they had other superstar players to help them and that's how they achieved many titles. In the other hand, Brazil is not the first power in football anymore.

Why can't we compare Neymar with Ronaldo or Ronaldinho? I don't think that the situation has changed a lot over the years. Even now, Brazil is a well balanced team and they are not overdependent on Neymar. They have high quality players like Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus, Raphael Veiga and Vinícius Júnior. And I would say that they are still among the top-3 teams in the world (although I don't know whether they are no.1). We can say that gap between Brazil and other teams have narrowed, but even now they are one of the best teams in the world. Given this, the fact that they have performed poorly in the FIFA World Cup for two consecutive terms is baffling.
2151  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket Asia Cup 2023! Which team will WIN? on: September 14, 2023, 03:05:18 AM
We are $ucked if Bumrah faces another injury lol. His presence in the team gives a big boost to bowling.

Yeah, the combination looks okay for now because they ticked all the boxes in the last 2 matches, it can also change overnight (I hope not). We still have 5 (3 with Aus) matches before the WC so let's see and hope for the best.

I have a different opinion on this. I would rather say that a potential injury to Bumrah will not be much damaging for India's prospects. Bumrah can be replaced with Shami. He may not be as quick as Bumrah, but he is also a wicket taker. And if multiple bowlers get injured, then there is a good backup strength in the form of Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan. Right now, India should not be bothered about some of their players getting injured and becoming unavailable to play. The team balance is looking really good at this point.
2152  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcoin betting on the 2024 US Presidential Election on: September 14, 2023, 02:56:48 AM
There's also a huge incentive for businesses to keep low paying workers in the country. It's probably not for the kind of their hearts that they keep illegal immigrants in the country.

Every restaurant/pub kitchen in the US is basically manned by someone from another country. Maybe some of those are paid a bit less than what they should be paid.

With minimum wages going up, and additional expenses like Mediclaim piling up on the employers, some of the businesses resort to employ illegal immigrants hoping that doing so will keep them afloat at least on a temporary basis. And they also know that there will be no legal repercussions for doing so. Most of the cities in the United States are ruled by Democrats and they turn a blind eye to different businesses employing illegal immigrants. But I am not sure how this will benefit the country in the long run.
2153  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: September 14, 2023, 02:45:38 AM
He is a good coach overall but just wasnt able to find a way in the national team and Germany needed to sack him to try and get some good results because they will need it in the euros to try and win the title because they have a really good team and they need to go far with it.

They can fire the coach or the football association president as they like. But they should look in to the root cause. Performance from Germany is down, because newly drafted players are unable to keep up with the retiring ones. Their star payers like Thomas Müller and İlkay Gündoğan are getting old and more prone to injuries, but there is no one to replace them right now. On top of that, the quality of the local league has gone down over the years.    Bundesliga at this point can't be compared to La Liga or the English Premier League.
2154  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2023/2024 on: September 14, 2023, 02:35:05 AM
They have good financial budget and their four biggest clubs are receiving good support from Saudi Arabian government through PIF. However, to go far and reach their ambitious targets, they must do their transfers and execute their plans differently than Chinese Super League a few years ago. If they go to the same way of Chinese Super League, they will fail similarly like that one.

This is not an apple to apple comparison. And we have already discussed this topic a couple of times. Chinese Super League never got the sort of players who are participating in the Saudi Professional League right now. Also, the intent was not to increase the global viewership or to make China a global football hub, as the Saudis are planning with their league. Also, the expectations were too high and support from the government lasted for only a short period of time. I am more optimistic about the Saudi Professional League, and I believe that things will turn out different from what happened with China.

The first matches in Asian Games cricket competition (not the Asia Cup) will be played in around 5 days from now. On 19th September, the women's competition is scheduled to start. There are two matches in the opening day. Mongolia will take on Indonesia, and Hong Kong will face Malaysia. The men's tournament will start by 27th September, when Nepal will face Mongolia, and Japan will play against Cambodia. India will be aiming for double gold, with the men's team being led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh are also included in the squad.

Everyone were watching the performance of Ben Stokes. Nowhere there is some lagging, h continued to do what he had in his mind. The series have turned even more interesting as the next match will be the last one to decide the winner. As of now England have won two matches and leads the series. Now the only choice available for New Zealand is to draw the series winning the last ODI.

New Zealand has gone on a decline ever since they lost the world cup final back in 2019 (to England). And unfortunately the guy who defeated them back then was back to action yesterday, to give them another thrashing. I was hoping for a 400 plus total from England during yesterday's match. But once Stokes got out, they collapsed quickly. From a score of 348/5 after 44.3 overs, they ended up at 368 all out form 48.1 overs. Trent Boult and Ben Lister managed to get New Zealand to a somewhat respectable situation. But that didn't prevented England from winning the match by a margin of 181 runs.
2157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: September 13, 2023, 02:36:47 PM
LOL.. England looking very solid on their way to a 400 plus total. After 40 overs, they are 307/4. 10 runs per over should give them a total of 407, while 12 runs per over will be 427. Ben Stokes is just hammering the Kiwi bowlers, like they are from a grade-3 club. Everyone has got the stick so far. Even the reliable Trent Boult has gone for close to 6 runs per over. Jamieson, Ferguson and Ravindra are having horrendous economy rates. What has happened to the New Zealand bowlers all of a sudden? They used to have the best pace bowling attack 2-3 years ago.
2158  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket Asia Cup 2023! Which team will WIN? on: September 13, 2023, 02:23:45 PM
It is not certain but it is confirmed that Srilanka might reach the finals. Considering what Pakistan has been doing in this cup makes me believe in my own prediction. They are struggling as a bowling side, they were once known for their bowling attack. They have no clue as to why their number 1 batting side got destroyed. The Captain of Pakistan has issues in taking decision as the management is controlling him. By management, it is the PCB which now being controlled by someone who has never palyed international cricket or even cricket.

You might say the same about India. Regardless, India is dominating the one day tournament. Do remember wickets in India would be somewhat similar to what we have seen in Srilanka. India were underdogs, after the these two games they have now become hot favourite to win the World Cup. 2011 was the time when India won the world cup again. This was the second time and the next might happen this year.

Perhaps travelling back and forth between Pakistan and Sri Lanka impacted the performance of the Pakistani players. Before the start of the Asia Cup, they were being favored to win the trophy, because they had a very strong batting lineup (Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman) and perhaps the best pace attack for any of the participants in this edition of the Asia Cup (Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf). But now they look to be in very poor shape. Batsmen are out of form, and the bowlers are either injured or leaking runs.

@Sithara007 unfortunately people will never stop comparing these star player’s and I believe each one of them have set a benchmark which inspires others and that’s why such comparisons keep on taking place. Lastly the era of Messi and Ronaldo has ended and now it’s Mbappe’s and Halland era and I feel that Mbappe will play an very important role in the 2026 World Cup for France.

Kylian Mbappé is being termed as the next Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but I personally believe that it is too early to give such labels. We all saw what happened with Mario Balotelli. I don't want Mbappé to end up like him. Now coming to Erling Håland, I am not sure whether we will ever see him playing in the FIFA World Cup. Chances of Norway qualifying for the world cup is minimal, even with the expansion in 2026. He will end up like George Weah and Goran Pandev (North Macedonia), who never got an opportunity to participate in the world cup.

New Zealand vs England 3rd ODI match will be interesting, and both teams will try hard to win. As of the two ODI matches that have been completed, England have won one and New Zealand have won one match. Accordingly, the team that can win today's match will be ahead to win the match, and then they will have a chance to win the series. England batting in today's 3rd ODI match is already having a great batting performance, England batsmen have really captivated the audience with their batting. England's two batsmen Ben Stokes batted brilliantly and scored 96 runs off 70 balls, while Dawid Malan scored 90 runs off 84 balls, which is really impressive. England, have lost two wickets so far in today's match, but the two batsmen currently present may be aiming for a century. England team has collected 200 runs in 27 overs at the moment with the loss of 2 wickets, but if we keep coming today, England may close to 400 runs.

Won't be surprised if England ends up at somewhere around 400. They are 250/3, with 16.2 overs remaining. It is very much possible that they may end up with a massive total. All the 3 wickets to fall till now were picked up by Trent Boult. Other New Zealand bowlers are looking pathetic. Lockie Ferguson went for 56 runs from his 5 overs, while Rachin Ravindra went for 28 from his 2. Kyle Jamieson continued with his poor form, conceding 47 runs from his 6 overs. And England still has powerful batsmen to come next, including Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran.
