2141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies ! A wrong (Altcoin) selection would destroy your dream on: August 01, 2021, 06:01:09 PM
I did this with a small amount of my balance when bitcoin wasn't moving much, I think I bought eth at around 0.03 and then it halved and I managed to sell the bottom because I didn't care enough to keep it open (it was just a bit of a test anyway). If I'd have kept holding it until now, it'd have doubled but at an extreme risk - so I can sort of appreciate how risky trades like yours were when you decided to hold alts instead of btc - I imagine they were up in terms of btc too (pre crash) unless you only bought them recently?
2142  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: The EU are not going to ban "Anonymous" wallets on: August 01, 2021, 03:04:34 PM
The first wallet I had was Coinbase, I did not even know private key or seed phrase exists, all I knew at the time was not to forget my email and login password, that was at the ending of 2019. Until I joined this forum before knowing about seed phrase and private key, also the time I do not know about privacy and many others like that.

I did the same back in 2015, my problem was I downloaded bitcoin core first - realised it'd take ages to sync and so gave up and set up a coinbase wallet. Now for most things crypto related, you have to do some form of kyc so I can see their wallet tracking methods getting stronger unless enough people are able to discover wallets like electrum before giving away some of their anonymisation information. Even in bitcoin, privacy can be expensive - if you can't consolidate multiple inputs into 1 because you don't want the inputs to be linked then...

Also the word limit in twitter is the main reason I haven't used it - unless you get a well explained thread, a video, or an announcement with a link - you're probably getting even less of a story you might've had.
2143  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What you think about future trading and best coin for scalping ?? on: July 31, 2021, 10:15:09 PM
I normally use futurss on things with the highest price movements/volatility. There are a bunch of different ways of measuring this a few being from the exchanges themselves and from data sites like tradingview.

I'd focus on getting/finding/learning off the charts a good universal strategy you can apply to many different situations if you can because it'll do you quite well as long as it remains in your favour/over 50% accurate.
2144  Economy / Economics / Re: Cryptocurrency derivatives are banned in the US, but traders don't care on: July 30, 2021, 05:20:01 PM
Is it actually legal for them to do that though? I don't think it's legal for individuals outside of the US to buy US stocks without them being held in trust in the US and I doubt this has been done with things like binance...

If it isn't legal, it's unlikely you'll have accurate data on how many are doing it too - perhaps some go off shore to buy it by going somewhere like Canada?
2145  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we really heading towards hyperinflation or towards deflation? on: July 29, 2021, 05:17:44 PM
I'm expecting a housing market crash to occur around September-November this year, if the past repeats itself, bitcoin will crash around the same time by about 70-90% like we did in 2017. After then it'll probably recover or stabalise (and if this happens, the drop will likely stay above $15k after a run off peak just before it).

What you're talking about is EVERYONE becoming stingy like they did in 2008 (every asset class seemed to have dropped around then and everyone runs to physical cash if they can). The UK started throwing money at people to try to get stuff going again around then too (ppi seemed to coincide with it).

A lot of investors that would've taken on risky investments were probably very surprised one of them paid off and just vanished for a while in the hopes they didn't lose it - with credit default swaps and other derivatives.
2146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Long Term Investment Suggestion on: July 29, 2021, 03:30:03 PM
... like out of 100% investment, it is good to have 70% on bitcoin and the remaining 30% on altcoins for altcoins.

Only invest in altcoins if you're going to be able to keep track of them quite easily. If you're not, you might neglect to find out they've become insecure or something...

Until the end of the bullrun, bitcoin is going to be the best asset. At the time of the crash, alts will pick up dominance but probably only for around a month and you'll end up having to time it probably.

I wouldn't buy any alts also until eth slides back to below 0.03-0.04btc.

All of this is provided based on previous performance, and while it's not the best tracker and can fail - it's normally a pretty good place to start.
2147  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there a tool which can automatically indicate the support and resistance? on: July 29, 2021, 01:25:25 PM
Not sure what it's called elsewhere but for trading view, volume profile (aka vpvr) allows you to determine the prices the highest volume is traded at).

I assume that's what you mean? Like volume by price rather than time?
2148  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance squeezes users on verification on: July 29, 2021, 01:25:23 AM
what is there requirements for basic verification?
what is the next level of verification after the basic and what is the withdrawal capacity in btc for the higher level of verification?

Basic verification is just clicking a link in an email to confirm you own that email address. I think binance also make you add Google authenticator or a phone number before you can withdraw also.

The next step is full identity verification: name, ID, facial recognition.
Beyond that, there is then a more advanced step that requires address verification.
2149  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is stop loss and how it works on: July 29, 2021, 01:17:58 AM
A lot of exchanges like etoro/trading212/primexbt have quite a handy feature for previewing your stop losses before setting them - they'll tell you how much you're likely to lose by setting the stop loss where you've put it.

Don't overrisk or overleverage on anything though. If you're risking 1% on each trade and not making a profit overall, you're risking too much- the best way to learn how to trade is to experience it (but without any yolo bets).
2150  Other / Meta / Re: Is Security Bounty still Active? on: July 29, 2021, 01:09:10 AM
I'm not sure on the architecture of simple machines forums/and this one specifically but a lot of user account hackings can occur from people using weak passwords. I'm not sure I want to cover the details on how to do this without or with the database but it's possible either way if the passwords used aren't very advanced - especially if a user lists the country they're from or you can guess the country/area. It could also be possible to send a phishing link to someone's email and get them to log in/interact with it to get access to their email and/or their account.

I think I'd agree that the bug bounties might be a bit low - potentially the Javascript one of you can inject a photo that is able to deanonymise someone even just on one particular browser - but I'm not sure the best way to increase them either or whether it's even a good idea to (should you wait with a gulnerability you've found because you think they rates will go up again?)
2151  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance squeezes users on verification on: July 28, 2021, 06:47:56 PM
I've been using the savings feature with some of my funds - until recently. I did get an email but it wasn't for that low (although I have only done email verification and 2fa). I think they've looked at the amounts I've withdrawn in the past and assumed they could take the risk and set it a bit higher.

There might be some people a bit more resistant to kyc too, I know most of the crypto exchanges do it a lot more rigerously than stock exchanges but less than banks - it's a bit disapointing they can't end up on par with stock exchanges by just doing address verification.
2152  Other / Meta / Re: Have bumping rules changed? on: July 27, 2021, 05:05:46 PM
Was it definitely the most recent bump that was deleted - are you sure you deleted the old ones before posting it (that's the main thing I can think of). Maybe there was ambiguity as to whether something was a bump or a post too but both should be fine to keep if the bump came after 24 hours.
2153  Economy / Economics / Re: Will some companies like Amazon really 'store' Bitcoins? on: July 27, 2021, 04:20:00 PM
For issuing bonds n all they would have to apply for another lisence or not?? It will be a completely different market segment and I guess that would pose certain risks as well.
Amazon would certainly hold Bitcoins if there is an advantage of holding Bitcoins to them, if not then they would sell the coins either with some profit or just keep holding Bitcoins till they are in profit and then sell the coins. But the thing is that they would have to start accepting Bitcoins first before all other things.

Hypothetically, yes they'd have to apply for a new licence. Realistically, they'd probably acquire a company already trying to do something similar and just use that for doing the crypto exchanges.

Licencing and risk are generally easy for a large company like them to deal with, a licence is probably a week with 20 workers filing relevant information with the sec or whoever - even if it's internationally they'd probably only need a few extra people per country to deal with translations.

They might be able to make additional money by charging custody charges or lending out funds (like the majority of normal exchanges/asset management firms do).
2154  Economy / Economics / Re: Will some companies like Amazon really 'store' Bitcoins? on: July 27, 2021, 03:42:21 PM
They'll probably find a way to pass the risk of saving/storing bitcoin onto investors. They'll probably use a payment gateway and prematch otc trades as much as possible so they can sell btc at a fixed amount for that period of time - like if investors were interested in dollar cost averaging.

Either that or they'll issue bonds to users of amazon that want to invest or hold btc and become an exchange themselces - finance is one of the remaining industries they haven't done much with/they could always team up with a bank on it too.
2155  Economy / Services / Re: [Looking for] Oxygen concentrators on: July 27, 2021, 02:57:54 PM
I don't know if these deliver abroad or how much concentrators normally cost but I've found a high street pharmacy in the I UK that sells them: https://lloydspharmacy.com/products/inogenone-g5-portable-oxygen-concentrator?variant=32657491951679

2156  Economy / Economics / Re: If you can get paid through cryptocurrency, do you still choose fiat currency? on: July 27, 2021, 10:57:14 AM
Like the others have said, it's more reasonable to take a certain amount in crypto - but not all.

At this point you may as well just convert the fiat yourself into crypto. However I think doing something like offering to pay half of bonuses in crypto might be considered after a while for some companies (potentially if their local fiat isn't too stable).
2157  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Price Crashes in History on: July 27, 2021, 10:47:23 AM
In 2018, Bitcoin price crashed to near $3000.
We did that in 2017 too... Not sure about the other crashes but we crashed back down to the new major support at least twice after breaking it ~$3000, there's then that to add to any speculation - is this just being consolidated as support?
2158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Checking in... on: July 26, 2021, 10:48:43 PM
When did you leave, I see you posted here last September (and this June but only twice) ?

We've had the lightning network for a while if you haven't covered it - a bitcoin blockchain enforced instant payment system (it takes seconds to transact bitcoin across the world but I think it's still fairly emergent/considered insecure because it hasn't proven itself).

Eths going pos.

Musk took over from mcafee too - with making tweets about bitcoin...

Bitcoin's price is doing relatively well considering... Especially since the start of the pandemic last year.

I think there are also a few platforms testing decentralised futures but I'm not sure how well they're doing.
2159  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: balance display problems in Electrum wallet on: July 26, 2021, 10:21:37 PM
Can you tell me or take a screenshot of the top of your electrum wallets window and the bottom?

Does it say "standard wallet", "imported wallet" or "watching only wallet" - or something similar?

Also do you have a balance at the bottom of the screen? Could you paste the samouri and electrum support emails you used also?
2160  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Youtube channel - what would you like to see? on: July 26, 2021, 10:01:19 PM
Sounds like a good idea! One thing I'd suggest is (quality) posts that get a lot of merits - for example: top merited post for that week - and threads that get a lot of traction maybe ones that get a lot of heavy discussion and interaction too rather than number of replies (like the weight of the posts in a topic).

Theymos suggested doing news stuff on that topic and I'd be interested in trying to make stories neutral and accurate if you needed the help... I think I'm a bit crypto-skeptic when it comes to things like ICOs and altcoins (although I'm not sure I have a firm grasp on crypto news articles as I normally rely on mainstream media for crypto stuff).
