Alert: Jeb Bush Won’t Go to Iowa Straw Poll

No Iowa Straw Poll for Jeb Bush.

The likely Republican presidential candidate will instead attend a competing event, the RedState Gathering in Atlanta, the day of the Iowa event, GOP sources in Iowa told The Des Moines Register on Tuesday. A spokesman for Bush confirmed the report.

Bush, a former Florida governor, is the first among the Republican 2016 presidential field to officially opt out of the straw poll, a nationally renowned event that has drawn significant criticism over the years.

The Republican Party of Iowa, which hosts the Iowa Straw Poll, has been working to shore up the event's reputation and lure candidates by addressing some of the most prevalent complaints. Last week, Iowa GOP officials announced they'll provide free tent space and utilities for the campaigns. The straw poll has been bashed as having outsized importance, even to the point of having losing candidates drop out of the race. Campaigns sometimes spend hundreds of thousands of dollars at the straw poll as a sort of dry run for the Iowa caucuses.

But for the GOP presidential contenders, whether to compete in the straw poll is more of a risk-reward analysis. For those who compete, the aim is to do better than expected. This cycle, some contenders have said, they intend to focus instead on the caucuses, which will take place in precincts across the state on Feb. 1.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann told the Register: "We hope Governor Bush rethinks his decision and realizes that grass-roots will only grow in Iowa if he waters them. The RedState Gathering is a four-day event, and other candidates have already indicated that they will be attending both. We don't buy this excuse and neither will Iowans." Grin

Ingraham Bashes Jeb Bush: ‘Has to Be Something Wrong’ with Him to Still Support Iraq Invasion

If Jeb Bush would still invade Iraq knowing what we know now, 12 years after the fact, then “there has to be something wrong” with him, conservative radio host Laura Ingraham said Monday morning.

In a pre-taped Fox News interview, Megyn Kelly asked Bush whether he’d still send American forces into Iraq, as we did in 2003, knowing now about the faulty intelligence that drove the initial occupation. Not only did he answer in the affirmative, but he suggested Hillary Clinton would do the same.

That response was worrisome, according to Ingraham. “No, Hillary wouldn’t,” she exclaimed. “[She] wouldn’t authorize the war now, if she knew what she knew now then. No, of course not!”

Even though the question is purely hypothetical, Ingraham continued, “You have to say ‘No’ to that; you can’t say, ‘Yes, I’d still would have gone into Iraq.’”

And then came the kicker: “Or if you do, then there has to be something wrong with you. You can’t think going into Iraq now, as a sane human being, was the right thing to do. That’s like you have no ability to learn from past mistakes at all.”

so I read a bit on what 21 wants to do.

and I read the whole social approach with it, that hulu example is pretty horrible. Pay bitcoin to skip commercial? really? I`m going to give my hard earned, hard to get coin in general based on mining to pay a 1 min commericial, okay thats makes so much sense.

I`d throw my dogecoin before bitcoin.
Depending how long the show you're watching is, there could be commercials 5 or 6 times throughout of varying lengths. If you got a female laying her head on your lap, you might just want to keep the show rolling and have the commercials prepaid. Just a thought.

HILLARY CLINTON SETS RECORD, LONGEST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO DODGE NATIONAL PRESS IN MODERN HISTORY

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton holds a dubious record: she’s gone longer than any presidential candidate in modern history without appearing on a national television news network or conducting a sit down interview with national media.

Clinton, the likely Democratic presidential nominee, announced she would run for president via a recorded two-minute video message on Twitter Sunday April 12th. Following the announcement, Clinton dashed off to Iowa in her “Scooby” van without giving any time to the national press, and very little time – if any – to local reporters.

Research tracing back through the 2012 and 2008 primaries suggests the longest a candidate went without doing an interview with national press after a presidential bid announcement was roughly two days.

Joe Biden, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Ron Paul, Rudy Guliani, John Edwards and Mike Huckabee all conducted interviews with the media on the same day as their presidential bid announcements.

nice and helpful post. thanks to writer.

Sorry but I need to ask this:

How comes a newbie registered but 3 days ago has 28 activity?
You can only get 14 activity points every 2 weeks.

Also, not that it matters much but all your posts are one liners too.

This happened to me when I first joined. It seemed like my posting and activity stayed on par w/ each other up to a certain point. It's been so long that I can't remember when the normal 14 activity per 2 weeks happened.

Too bad this was only on Fox Business which gets like a tenth of the viewers that their News channel gets. The New channel was too busy showing an interview w/ Bush last night and having former staffers for his brother to comment on the interview. Pathetic.

Paul opposes granting Obama fast-track trade authority

Frustrated by being required to find his way to a private “dungeon” to read the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement, Rand Paul said Monday he is a “no vote” on a provision to allow President Obama to complete the deal on a fast track.

The Republican presidential candidate said in an interview in Manchester he will vote against granting Obama trade promotion authority, which limits Congress to only up or down votes on trade deals. A vote on “TPA” is expected as early as Tuesday on the Senate floor.

The Kentucky senator spent part of the day in New Hampshire before heading back to Washington for a late afternoon vote.

He held a town hall at the Londonderry Lions Club, an event that was at least partially overshadowed by a top New Hampshire staffer licking the camera lens of a pro-Democratic video tracker. The video of David Chesley quickly went viral on social media.

Paul told WMUR.com the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement “is being held under lock and key” by the Obama administration “because they’re afraid that if the public knows what we are going to vote on, that somehow that would destroy the republic.”

Members of Congress must go to office of the U.S. Trade Representative to see a copy of the agreement, but are not allowed to take notes, make copies or bring any members of their staffs.

“I’ve told leadership I’m a ‘no’ vote” on trade promotion authority, Paul said. “I’m hesitant to give blanket authority on stuff we haven’t seen. I’m not saying there wouldn’t be a time I could be for it, if I’d seen the trade agreement, and it’s fine,” Paul said.

“I still might vote for the trade agreement, but I hate giving up power. We give up so much power from Congress to the presidency, and with them being so secretive on the treaty, it just concerns me what’s in the treaty,” he said.

A little too early for polling. Winner might not be in the race yet.

That is my hope...Scott Walker all the way!
Dude, Walker has been heavily promoted by the establishment media to siphon conservative support from Paul and Cruz. Look at his fiscal record as Governor and you'll that spending went up year after year. That's the litmus test for a conservative republican vs your standard Romney/Bush type. That makes Walker an establishment type candidate but thrown into muddy the waters while being backed up by the likes of Fox News.

Rand Releases Newest Edition of ‘The Waste Report’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rand Paul today released the newest edition to ‘The Waste Report.’ ‘The Waste Report’ is an ongoing project to catalog egregious examples of wasteful spending throughout the U.S. government. This week’s report uncovers thousands of taxpayer dollars of potential waste in the National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA).

The newest edition of ‘The Waste Report’ can be found HERE or below.

Nuclear Waste: Department of Energy’s $13K Treadmills

The National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA) of the Department of Energy put out a Name-Brand solicitation in February for five Woodway treadmills, with upgrades.[1] Woodway is luxury manufacturer of treadmills; the 4Frontmodel, which NNSA is seeking four of, retails for over $10,000, with upgrades (Personal Training Display Board, +10% incline and +2.5 mph top speed) adding $3,900 per-unit according to a Woodway pricing guide.[2]

The solicitation states that NNSA planned to “utilize the treadmills to qualify Federal Agents on the running requirements established by the NNSA …” The Federal Agents here are Nuclear Materials Couriers, who according to an NNSA recruiting brochure must pass a minimum standard in the 1-mile and a 40-yard dash run, every six months.[3] Perhaps the standard warranting such a high-end treadmill is the ability to outrun nuclear radiation in the event of an accident?

The solicitation indicates these treadmills will service approximately 500 Agents. By comparison Livestrong.comreports that the average Gold’s Gym has approximately 5000 members. They also report Anytime Fitness typically uses LifeFitness 93 or 95ti treadmills which run (no pun intended) around $4,000.[4]

The solicitation was automatically archived in March without being filled. But the question remains, why does the Department of Energy need the Cadillac of treadmills?

This is not the first time a federal agency has bought high-priced exercise equipment. Last month in a Senate Finance Committee hearing, it was revealed that the IRS spent bought $8000 stair climbers. [5]

At this point the price of bitcoin is really too volatile for it to be any meaningful kind of investment, at least one that one would rely on.

Bitcoin is still very far from certain from being viable over the long run and buying bitcoin with the intention of holding it in the long run is speculative at best

Holding has proven to be pretty much dead by now. Not an issue, since that way the coins get distributed further.
What itches me is the lack of private enthusiams to mine coins at home. That was the stuff that made Bitcoin great, once ago.
Yeah, I used to mine but it was a waste and didn't deal me nothing decent at the time. Even tho times have changed, I wouldn't advise mining at this time.

Senator Warren hits back at Obama in Pacific Rim trade fight

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren hit back at President Barack Obama in their tussle over "fast-track" authorization to negotiate a Pacific Rim trade treaty, a power she says could be used in the future to weaken Wall Street reforms.

The president, who wants expedited negotiating power to streamline the passage of trade deals through Congress, said last week that Warren's claims were "absolutely wrong."

Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat and prominent liberal voice, stuck to her argument in an interview published on Monday with a Washington Post blog, saying Obama should release details of the Pacific trade talks so legal experts can determine if a pact could be used to weaken U.S. bank rules.

"If the president is so confident it's a good deal, he should declassify the text and let people see it before asking Congress to tie its hands on fixing it," Warren said in the interview with the Plum Line blog.

Syria crisis: Turkey and Saudi Arabia shock Western countries by supporting Anti-Assad jihadists

Turkey and Saudi Arabia are actively supporting a hardline coalition of Islamist rebels against Bashar al-Assad’s regime that includes al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Syria, in a move that has alarmed Western governments.

The two countries are focusing their backing for the Syrian rebels on the combined Jaish al-Fatah, or the Army of Conquest, a command structure for jihadist groups in Syria that includes Jabhat al-Nusra, an extremist rival to Isis which shares many of its aspirations for a fundamentalist caliphate.

The decision by the two leading allies of the West to back a group in which al-Nusra plays a leading role has alarmed Western governments and is at odds with the US, which is firmly opposed to arming and funding jihadist extremists in Syria’s long-running civil war.

On Taxes, Jeb Bush Is Annoying Conservative Republicans Again

Unlike most of the other Republican 2016 hopefuls, Jeb Bush has pointedly refused to rule out raising taxes on the wealthy, opening up another divide between the ex-Florida governor and conservatives in his party.

Americans for Tax Reform, an influential conservative group, has for more than two decades circulated a pledge in which candidates commit to opposing any net tax increase. Most Republican members of Congress have signed it, as have more than a dozen GOP governors and about 1000 state legislators, according to ATR.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas have signed the pledge as presidential candidates over the last few weeks. They have committed, in the words of the agreement, to oppose "any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rate for individuals and business" and "any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates."

Fast track? How about a pro-America track?

Congress, led by Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, is preparing to betray American workers, and the grass roots should rise up and say, “No, you don’t.” The secretive underhanded deal is called “fast track,” and that’s an appropriate title because, indeed, it puts Americans on a fast track to lower wages and fewer available jobs.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., one of the few Members of Congress who has actually read and studied fast track plus its companion trade bill called Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), has compiled a list of objections to it that are downright frightening. They should be read by all who care about their own future and the future of our once-prosperous nation. Here are some of the ways fast track and TPP will betray us.

The text of TPP emphasizes that it is a “living agreement.” Translated out of bureaucratese code language, that means the text of TPP can be changed in major and minor ways by executive action after Congress OKs the document. The TPP could, for example, add additional countries such as Communist China, which for years has been cheating America coming and going.
