I mean putting the radiator with fans outside recirculating oil with a submersible pump. It's cold here most of the year. Thanks for your input.

putting it outside means long houses and aquarium pumps do not have enough power to make it + drilling the walls (to route the houses outside) and all fancy things you can think of Smiley

PS:01BTC10 in case you have not givven up already please  consider removing the radiators of the ASIC PCB or choose a proper material (not dissolved by oil) and seal them. oil can get through the radiator and reach the chips making air "oil" pockets with no circulation. that tiny places can become extremely hot and blow chips.
Second thing to consider - if you can make the level of your oil not to reach the ASIC PCB capacitors but to cover the chips just in case it is recommended. Check the oil level from time to times and and more if you need to. And finally to make you forgot about all of this i asked ngzhang same question two-three mounts ago and he said no. not a good idea. However he is the boss and he has final word to comment.Smiley

I can put the radiator outside?
If it is windy ALL the times and outside temp is lower than oil it is ok.
Yo have to blow cold air against it in order to cool it physics you can not do nothing about it.

To use less noisy (less airflow)  fan you have to put a lot of oil Just find a proper place to install your unit it will save you a lot of shit  - leaks, pumps  (producing noise also) houses and so on on and on

dou you think we can immerse the modules ìn mineral oil?

This is my plan to reduce noise. Hope it's feasible. I'm thinking about using Voltesso or Nynas electric transformers oil with an external radiator.

Dude,
You are not gonna reduce the noise at all.

there are two important things to consider
1. Liquid flow how fast your oil goes through radiator
2. In any case you have to blow air against the radiator. Otherwise no matter how big you radiator is or how good your liquidflow is you will have fried avalons for dinner

Blowing Air means fans = noise. Basically you will have same level of noise but instead blowing at pcb you will blow the radiator
For sure this approach is much better than air speaking of cooling alone but it will not reduce noise

Loshia, it was you who had zero doubts. You've won your lottery ticket, but it was a kind of lottery, so don't generalize.

Phinneaus, most of the listed points didn't applied to Avalon team. They were known of FPGAs which they delivered before.
Dude,
I made a bet on technical skills not on adds or daily forum updates if you are following my thoughts. I have said many times and i will say it again BFL (and BAIC) is nothing more than a proxy. As we all know Proxy always talks (or most of the times) relays on upstream and when upstream dies proxy follows. I just made that comment because the Phinnaeus Gage was still trying to bash avalon.

To Phinnaeus Gage: where is the list? in Chinese forum ? we will use google translate if we had to Grin
2165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Question: Where can I find Avalon ASIC Batch #1 install guide? on: March 09, 2013, 06:22:50 PM

what would be the purpose of 3G?

Automated internet connectivity backup dude:)
Shit always happens

well now that would be cool.  i have 4G service  Grin

3G is enough Smiley belie me but with 4G you will able to use torrents on top  Wink

I hope I get it before I find a notice on my door one day saying that DHL came by and no one was home, or worse, they leave the notice on my neighbor's door and I never know.
+1
Or worse when you never know your unit is going back to it's origin because it has never been delivered to you
Nightmare but it could happen

Bitsync, please do as you said and send us tracking numbers
Thank you very much in advance!
I personally want to plan my appointments and have at least one day off. DHL are recognizing my voice already when i am calling them asking same questions over and over. A simple tracking info will put all drama to an happy end until batch 2 start to ship Wink
2167  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PrimeAsic - 80 Ghash/sec Asic Miner on: March 09, 2013, 06:11:09 PM

What's ironic is that a similar list--ten times longer--applied to Avalon, yet they delivered.
There were ZERO doubts that avalon will deliver. The question was about BFL and BASIC one is gone already second  question still remains Grin

Please Avalon, don't be like BFL; if there is some delay in manufacturing/assembly, then please let us all know. It is obvious something is going on and I, as a potential customer, don't like being lied to (that was my biggest beef with BFL.)

It is a little fishy that even some Batch 1 customers THAT ARE IN CHINA have not received their ASICs yet...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Tongue Tongue Grin Grin

Dude,
They are super strict about the order they sent the avalons believe me. Everyone has a place in the queue and it does not matter at all if he is local or his shipping adders is nearby the moon
2170  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Question: Where can I find Avalon ASIC Batch #1 install guide? on: March 09, 2013, 05:16:07 PM
ng is here.

the 703N is a modded ver, we moved a 0R resistor from one place to another to let the 703N could get power form its USB-A port. (sorry, i don't have a 703n on hand right now)

why there is a ugly USB HUB there? because some compatibility problems come out if you connect the 703N to the controller board directly. the FT232 chip sucks. add a HUB can 99.999% solve this problem.

about P5 jumper: close this jumper will supply 5V to the USB-B port. in this system, the controller board power the HUB and the HUB power the 703N.

but if you connect the controller itself to a PC, you must remove the jumper. because PC will send 5V to the USB port too.
10X A million  Wink
So basically you have powered usb hub right?
Is there enough power to usb hub so that we can use other USb devices (3G for instance)?
ng: I have noticed on one of my borads that when PSu was to close to it it was disconnecting and reconnecting like crasy so FTDI seems to be very sensitive to such things otherwise 0 problems with FTDI usb + wr842Nd USB with or without hub

Probably avalon fttdi is too close to psu and that is why you need to use the hub?

great question on getting 3g added.  I would like to know too.

You will need a custom image for that or at least usbmodeswitch package as add on and some kernel modules also. Making it work is a pain in the ass at least for me. But i have it working. It is very important to distinguish between your ttyUSb - AVALON and ttyusb modem some symlink will help udev/hotplug rules

oooh and changing cgminer start up script also so i it will not mine over usb modem port  Cheesy

hi,

here are some info and advise.

about water cooling: yes, do it.

NG,

Question:
 I am not familiar with water cooling other than for gaming machines that have pre-built kits.  How would you suggest I do it for these custom boxes?

Thank You,
Lauren

Dude,

What i will do (sharing ideas) :

1. Rotate 3 stock fans to blow hot air out. The fan near PSU is just not effective as long as aar is gowning nowhere straight to the wires
2. Install to additional heavy duty fans (220V) to suck cold air in front
Pros: Achieve negative air pressure and more air flow which seems to be better in general speaking of cooling
Cons More dust and power. Power is added in all cases when you do install additional cooling)

I think this should be more than enough for a start. I have other ideas but when time comes:)

the unmodded 703n power input is micro usb (Not 12V), have to remove the two screws in order to get it. yeah, the first method worth trying...
is it 5V? Shit:)
Ok..my mistake with the homework
I am wondering why usb hub is there just to route usb wires nicely? and why ngzhnag stated it will not work without a hub when juper is there P5 Huh Misery Shocked
ngzhnag? tell us about P5 please Smiley

PS: On a second thought P5 just injects +5v in usb which explains that it has to be romoved when PC is used. But it should be no different when hub is skipped and P5 is in place and usb cable is connected directly in wr703. I just can not get it  Lips sealed
2174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Question: Where can I find Avalon ASIC Batch #1 install guide? on: March 09, 2013, 03:47:53 PM
Same problem after update to latest firmware and added with a workable USB hub. Cgminer Status read "Sick" after running less than few second.

Fan1 read "0"
Temp2 read "-1"

Strange?
fan1 is alway 0 (no connect, add a 4pin PWM fan to trigger), fan2 / fan3 should >= 2000 (yeah, a little noisy).
temp2 is always -1 (no connect, unknown sensor type if want a replacement), temp1 is income air temp (or machine temp?), temp3 is module temp (should be 40+ after working for a while)

it would be strange if fan2 & fan3 are 0, MHS 5s from devs is 0.0, it may require hard power off for several sec & wait the back light to be off, then power on again.
Bitbird,
as nghzang clearly stated it will not work when you skip the usb hub doing your way
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=150482.msg1600301#msg1600301

There are two options left
1. Remove jumper, use linux i386 pc compile https://github.com/BitSyncom/cgminer avalon branch and go
2. Do not do it unless nghzang or someone else confirms. Ethernet board wr703N has modded power supply via usb. I guess it is still able to be powered via 12V from PSU. If answer is yes, again find a way route wires 12V from psu to Ethernet board, so it is not powered via usb. Remove jumper and plug usb cable from controler directly to Wr703 Ethernet board. Basically same thing but instead of PC you will use Wr703. My first try will be to use PC then Wr703 (to exclude possible problem with WR703 USb port)

BIG FAT NOTE DO NOT DO ALL DESCRIBED IN STEP 2 UNLESS CONFIRMED OR DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK, BECAUSE WR703 IS MODDED AND DETAILS ARE UNCLEAR FOR THE MOMENT
2175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: March 09, 2013, 03:37:39 PM

Can you explain how you are going to accomplish this?

http://www.ipnetcontrol.net/en/item-products-en/p-4r1t1a-bg

No English version you can use google translate from Bulgarian

There are two options
1. power device can be controlled via snmp and power off / on each of the four power lines independently. It has web interface also which can be used for power off/on manually. The process of monitoring and restarting four independent power lines can be automated via shell sell script

2. Automatic way that is what i am going to use first when more Avalons come one of them will monitor the rest and control power lines via snmp accordingly
How it will be done Power Device has a built in function to monitor every minute via ping  given IP address and when ping fails it can restart (power off/on) one of the configured power lines where avalon unit is connected. So there is built in script inside avalon which does soft restart when accepted shares are not changing or when cg miner is dead

#!/bin/sh
# This file is for cron job

C=`pidof cgminer | wc -w`
if [ "$C" != "1" ]; then
/etc/init.d/cgminer stop
/etc/init.d/cgminer start
exit 0;
fi

A=`cat /tmp/cm.log`
B=`cgminer-api | grep "^ \[Accepted\]"`
cgminer-api | grep "^ \[Accepted\]" > /tmp/cm.log
if [ "$A" == "$B" ]; then
/etc/init.d/cgminer stop
/etc/init.d/cgminer start
exit 0;
fi
https://github.com/BitSyncom/cgminer-openwrt-packages/blob/master/cgminer/files/cgminer-monitor

The quick and dirty hack to this script is changing
/etc/init.d/cgminer stop
/etc/init.d/cgminer start
to ip a f dev br-lan or whatever interface name is
then power device will not be able to ping avalon unit and within a minute it will be rebooted powerd off and on:)

Nice easy and clean:)
2176  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: March 09, 2013, 10:52:34 AM

i've never used ssh before. how hard is that to setup?

good question.

with SSH you go into command line interface of router, so you can edit the file yourself.
I know that cause I use same router and image by xiangfu as host to my icarus. avalon may be quite the same.

this script is called cgminer and resides in /etc/init.d/

Code:
#!/bin/sh /etc/rc.common
START=99

POOL1="-o http://stratum.ozco.in:80 -O user:password"
POOL2="-o http://us.ozco.in:80 -O user:password"

POOLS="$POOL1 $POOL2 $POOL3"

start() {
        DEVS=`find /dev/ -type c -name "ttyUSB*"  | sed 's/^/-S/' |  sed ':a;N;$
        cgminer -q -T --api-network --api-listen $POOLS $DEVS &
}

stop() {
        killall -s 9 cgminer
Well that sux ...
Those API settings mean you can't control cgminer, you can only view it.
If you want to be able to control cgminer ... it's documented in the API-README ...

I fail to see where that sucks, Its mine config, so far so good since I dont have the need to control cgminer remotely
and we were talking about the openwrt GUI here...   but nice input.

avalon user reading this,  cgminer API is a whole new world and will require edit config file via console
well - what it means is that rather than using the API to shut it down, you can only kill the cgminer process directly
If instead you used say --api-allow w:127.0.0.1
then from the avalon you can issue commands to cgminer (e.g. 'quit' or 'restart') or even better if you add
--api-allow w:127.0.0.1,w:192.168.0/24 then you can user miner.php running on some other computer to control cgminer - e.g. to add pools ... and MANY other things ... as per API-README Smiley
(of course you'd have to use the correct 192.168.0/24 to match your network)
Kano,

There are some rumors here that not every time soft restart solves the problem. There might be something wrong with controller itself. I have not heard of any soft way to restart the controller yet. I have asked this many times...so to be on a safe side we have to use power plug:) having said all this it actually does not matter how you are going to soft restart it when it will not work again. I took care of this already and when i got my Avalon it will be powered off and on automatically if any problem occurs. As long it does not have HD like PC it is not hurting at all:)

About the default API settings - most of 99% the guys here do not care at all. And 99% of the cases unit will be behind NAT - soho router modem or whatever this is by design i think. Having that in mind i can say that here is 0% problem with default settings. For those of us who know what we want and how we want it we will do it. change files use iptables, vpn, miner.php and all fancy stuff that i have in mind

2177  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch 1- Who got tracking? on: March 08, 2013, 08:58:28 PM
I just received my Avalon! I didn't get a tracking number in advance, and just yesterday afternoon DHL said they didn't see anything coming my way. So don't assume it's not on the way if DHL doesn't find it in the system.
Yeah but weekend is coming at least two more days for me. I called them twice today and nothing
2178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Avalon ASIC Batch #1 Ships on: March 08, 2013, 08:49:27 PM
This really makes Butterfly look like idiots. A young kid against an entire company and the entire company can't even produce a working prototype? And Avalon is already shipping? Jesus man, what corruption.

They are not company speaking of their technical skills. they are just a proxy between real developers/fabrics located in china probably and they had a long and nice partner fxxxk for the last half+ year. They just do not admit it and never will. That is the reason for TOM/BASIC Failure. These are the facts as i see them. BFL have nothing to do about it because their partners are making the delays no matter how hard they try to look like "high tech company which is designing a CUSTOM asic" - complete bullshit. Being a good manager and taking money does not mean that only management can produce asics from nothing. From the other hand nghzand proved many times that he has the skills and knowledge. And here we go Yufu is taking care of business maters and all are happy

Oooops except BFL customers  Cry

PS: Butterfly are not idiots they are just bumpers Cheesy at least for a month already.

Guy's
There is a problem with pool authorization with 2.11.1 tried latest commit (81567e515707891837f52bc3aac7d5916dfff5a2). When i start cgminer it says pool rejected share error unauthorized. After a couple of restarts it is ok. This happens for the first time though and was ok all the way up to 2.10.5
