And I have every right to be sick of their whining. Life is unfair, boo-hoo.
Man up and take your loss, never use them again, fashion a dartboard target and use it regularly. Perhaps move on with your life.

Market sentiment is up which I think is going to definitely improve the BTC market. A rally is not out of the question at this point. Unlike anything we have ever seen before (exceeding parity excluded).

DupingBitCoins should totally start an internet petition, because you know, that's how you UP the drama-quotient. You know, instead of firmly resolving to never use Gox again, like an adult.

How is intrinsic value "weird shit"?
Depends on the shit I suppose. If I ate a hearty meal of gold dust and passed it out my colon -that would be some intrinsically weird shit. Or, alternatively I could eat some dollars green toilet paper and take pleasure knowing I'd be adding more value to it as compost than I would actually 'spending' it.

I read your argument, and I don't even care about the topic - but it affords me a chance to get something off my chest.
What is it with you newbies and senationalist topics?
When the price of bitcoin goes down 40 cents, its "CRASH CRASH CRASH" not, "Hey, see a weakness at this level - what do you think?"
When you don't have any information, you take a random frantic stab and say "THESE GUYS CHEAT!! (I think, er, well maybe)" instead of "Anyone have a similar experience? What is going on?"
I'd love to see threads that weren't headlined in the most drama-fueled way possible. Or perhaps, this is just the fallout from 'reality' shows permeating cable networks, to the point where 'news' shows parody the very events they are supposed to be objectively reporting on. It takes restraint to not stir up the pot, and whenever I see one of these "Waving Flag - ALERT ALERT ALERT" kind of posts, I just have to wonder how much sugar they've had this morning.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled "BTC IS DEAD" and "IT IS GOING TO ZERO" crap topics.

So what do you think the new Google bitcoin exchange will be called?
"G-Coin: Google + Money"
"Googex: Global Bitcoin Trading"
"Bitogle"
I'd include facebook, but they'll be "MySpace-ing" themselves in a while...

Yeah I dont like it down to 14 bux, im hoping its just the holiday then buying at 14 makes sense, if it drops back to single digits, we could have a problem.
Yeah, a BUYING 'problem'. That is what makes markets

You are incorrect. People heard about BTC and said, "much thanks!" Now, we are facing a market with money flowing in. As miners slowly realize this, they will continue mining and liquidate their FRNs. We are set to see a demand overrun and with demand >>> supply.....BOOM!

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but if your fiat currency has not become worthless in the coming days, you need to buy bitcoins.
Nice one, slack-anon

I was about to confirm this thread, however my information is different. BTC is set to continue its upward spiral until it plateaus at roughly 100 DOLLARS per coin.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but if the price is still below 10 in the coming days, you need to buy.

The whole "OMG finding hashes is wasting computing power" argument.
Guess what jackwagons, if there wasn't any WORK required, the blockchain would be completely useless. The fact that the miners are securing MILLIONS of < Insert currency > by doing their 'useless work' doesn't even occur to these fools.
Anything worthwhile requires effort, a simplistic 'efficient' system can be gamed and exploited. It annoys me to no end that articles and glib blog posts trot out the hashing == waste thing. It's convenient, I suppose, if you don't understand bitcoin nor want to make any effort in doing so.

A good idea is a good idea.
I don't personally care if Satoshi is american, japanese, a sentient toasted bagel with cheese on top or a homeless beggar with a hacked wifi connection living in a refrigerator box. This idea will change the world, and whoever he/she is - was smart enough to let it fly free.
If anything, *we* are bitcoin now. And I don't plan on giving up easily.

You guys have to realize that large swings are the nature of the bitcoin market right now. The order books aren't deep enough to absorb movement either way, so we have higher volatility as a result.
Like I said elsewhere, you can't expect to stay sane if you obsess over every damn wiggle.

What amuses me is every sub-2-dollar move is labeled a 'crash' if going down, and a 'rally' on the way back up. Right now, you have Tradehill at 15 and change, and Gox at 14.30 - and I'm waiting for the 'crash' people to come out of the woodwork.
Just have to develop a longer-term perspective to stay sane, can't react to every damn wiggle.

I agree, where will the next suckers come from? Especially after all the hacks, thefts, ultra bad press, government threats, convoluted geek centric system, etc etc.
........................Nowhere.
and you .....left holding the bag.
Yeah, anyone holding dollars is going to be in for a rude awakening... Still think government-backed treasuries and massive debt won't result in a 'restructuring'? Keep on dreaming, pal. And if you don't care for bitcoin, why are you even here? Or is this your after-work troll time.

Economics is to reality like psychology is to science.
I'd love to be an economist, I could sit and post important-looking figures that don't even have to match the real world, and collect a paycheck. Granted, it would probably be in green toiletpaper dollars, but what the hell - I'd just convert it to bitcoins.

While thinking about the possible attacks against bitcoin holdings the threat of Electro-Magnetic Pulses popped up. So my questions are:
1. How susceptible are bitcoin holdings to Electro-Magnetic Pulses (whether they be highly targeted or a more generalized attack)?
and
2. What are some of the possible defenses?
Thanks, Trader Steve
This attack scenario is reduced to the question "What will we do if the internet is attacked?" The answer is - nothing, routing protocols will allow traffic to continue as long as some routers are still active. If the network is swamped to the degree of nothing getting across, or massive damage, then we have bigger problems than protecting our wallets. Given that the internet was designed to survive massive damage, I'd say we have an advantage over non-decentralized systems.
