221  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: August 24, 2017, 02:52:18 AM
These antminers are hot as hell...

Try venting directly outside.

I don't have an antminer because Bitmain sucks and can not get my order figured out, but running an old SP30 here, I found with it just aimed at the window: temp was 10-15 degrees hotter inside.  But with it actually sitting in the window venting entirely outside?  No effect on ambient temp, might even help keep it cooler because of the fans.  Also I keep another fan aimed at the device to keep the housing cool.

-ck lets get that webpage fixed up.  I'm swamped with other stuff but I just sit on this forum and lurk anyways so I might as well get something done.

What do we need to do?  Start over?  It doesn't rescale well.  I think that could be an issue if you think about page looking nice on 4k and looking nice on old android phone... so it might need stripped down a bit to essentials.
Thanks greyworld. All I suggested was that the fields be made to align with the browser width 100% instead of some particular size. I admit to being really bad at web design but this seems doable without changing the page code much.

Cool, I've tried a few things here to that effect, it actually turned into an over-worked mess.  CSS layouts with multiple layers get a little weird when the width changes and they're aligned in the middle of the page.  Hard to explain why, but fixed/max width and left aligned tend to work out best on widest selection of browsers.

I'll roll it back a bit and see if I can find a simplified way to make that happen.  The design might get a little more simplified but that's probably a good thing anyways.

I think XLM is a good long term hold.  They have a strong plan that looks well into the future.

Also OMG isn't going anywhere but up.  They'll be around a long time, and growing.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: August 23, 2017, 10:40:59 PM
I would feel horrible if someone sold out because of my initial post!!!

More for me!  muhahaha
226  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BETA] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: August 23, 2017, 10:38:43 PM
So... I made this for ckpool a week or two ago before I got frustrated and distracted by something shiny.

But, I'd still really like to help with the design if I can, so maybe the ckpool users could help me sort out some issues.

Here's what it looks like now:

http://ckpool.org/test.html

Basically, I hate it.  The colors are kinda goofy, the design doesn't scale well to big monitors, and it's just kinda boring.

So if anyone has any suggestions, let's hear it!

To it's credit, there are absolutely no images used on it at all.  But whatever, still needs a lot of work.
227  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [BETA] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: August 23, 2017, 10:26:39 PM
Woot!  Way to go ckpool!

EDIT: And unlike (ahem) some pools, even though my contribution was tiny and insignificant, I got paid *immediately*  Thanks -ck!

Side note: KANO, PAY YOUR MINERS!  THREE YEARS IS LONG ENOUGH TO FIGURE IT OUT.

I'm switching back to ckpool for a while, might be a minute before another block gets solved but at least I know that even if that's the case, eventually it will still mean a bit of a paycheck.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Geocoin going to the moon? on: August 23, 2017, 10:07:19 PM
Exactly, there’s nothing special about Geo ...

Nothing special about GEO?  Do you know of any other crypto you can wander around and pick up?

... they already moved on and rely on another network to keep their coins on.

Ubiq partnership allows them to provide the unique service of attaching other coins to Geocoins.  Why reinvent the wheel?  With crypto and computers in general, that's inviting disaster (security).  GIS makes GEO special and letting Ubiq handle the network just lets GEO focus on what's unique about them.

If they were serious about what they were doing then they would just focus on having a main network to be on and becoming number 1 in the coinmarketcap listings.

What does #1 in coinmarketcap accomplish for GEO?   They should become #1 because of a good product and constant progress, not the other way around.

Geo looks like a money making scheme that many people will try to purchase in though they will eventually hold onto coins that they can’t sell for profit because the price would be much lower than what they purchased it for. I’ve watched that happen to many coins many times.

GEO might be a money making scheme but so is every other coin out there.  And it worked for me.  I already made my investment back and got some free coins out of it.  So yeah, I'll be hanging onto them for a long time.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: GEO Coin is on an uptrend. Buy? on: August 23, 2017, 09:38:45 PM
Oh it's going to be a nice fall with this stupid update lol.... "More features"  im out

Half the image got cropped off by twitter.  There was a lot more mentioned under that.  Refresh twitter, devs released a new image.

Now you can attach other coins to GEO coins.  That's big news.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: GEO Coin is on an uptrend. Buy? on: August 23, 2017, 09:37:25 PM
No pump at all today

Just a big fall ^^

Yeah the post news dip kinda sucked, but it did shoot up 40% in a few hours.  That's pretty respectable imo.

I'll be holding this one long term.  It's going back up, people just need to understand the latest developments better.  What's happening with GEO is really good news, but it's complicated and I think people don't quite get it yet.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: August 23, 2017, 09:30:09 PM
Wait a minute. I've never heard of this coin, but isn't this like PokemomGO?

The potential that this would have had if Pokemon go players knew about it.

Edit: Just saw the chart on coinmarket cap. I've been really missing out.

With latest ANN, if I understand correctly, now it's like Pokemon Go that businesses can use for their own coins, in their own locations.  Buy now while it's comparatively cheap.  I just bought some more.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Geocoin going to the moon? on: August 23, 2017, 09:26:40 PM
How is the announcement terrible?

They're talking about being able to attach other types of coins to Geocoins so you can go pick them up.

That's cool and unique.  What were you expecting?  GEO CURES CANCER, TO THE MOON!!!

If you want GEO to form major partnerships, and you do, if you want value to skyrocket, then this is how they do it.

Everyone selling now is going to regret it.  Yes today was a pnd, but the real pump will come without warning, and soon.  That's why whales are still buying it up.  I bought some more, and I hope it does drop down to 20k satoshi so I can really stock up.  GEO is going to be huge.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [GEO] GeoCoin | GIS & GeoTechnologies on: August 23, 2017, 09:19:16 PM
So is the idea something like....

Six Flags wants to run a promotion where people are encouraged to wander around the park to certain rides and attractions.  So Six Flags creates their own coin on Ubiq, and attaches that coin to a Geocoin which the visitors can then pickup by standing near it while running the app?

What happens to the geocoin in that case?  Does the user collecting Six-Flags coins get it?  Does it go back to Six-Flags?  Does it disappear?

If the case scenario above is what devs have in mind, won't this keep the value of GEO down, since no customer is going to pay $5 per coin to promote their $1/worthless coins?

It's a neat idea but I'm not sure how the moving parts work.  Devs?

----

What if... every time the visitor picks up the geo/flags coin, they get the flags coin but most of the geo coin goes back to six flags to be attached to a new one of their coins.   The portion that didn't gets added to a pool of coins to be air dropped somewhere randomly in the world.  So whenever the 'fee portion' builds up to a full coin, it randomly appears somewhere out there for people to go pickup.

I think in that case, GEO could continue to build value and still exist as it does today.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Quality Alt Coins with mid-long term success on: August 23, 2017, 06:43:14 PM
I think OMG and XLM could make the list

Also CFI is looking good.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: eBoost (EBST) - Getting ready for a pump? on: August 23, 2017, 06:40:52 PM
I don't follow someones advice and I don't like this coin being pumped by Youtubers recently. Another shitcoin imo.

Oh are the YT gang pumping it?  Maybe that's why it's getting action.

I totally agree btw.  I wasn't trying to offer advice, just speculating about it and looking for second opinions.  Then it started popping so I took a victory lap.  Wasn't meant to imply 'hey buy this omg buy you swine!'.  It is a shitcoin and imo it has no long-term legs (at this point).  The marketing is terrible and they don't appear to have any notable associations with major players in the gaming industry.   I'm surprised they haven't gotten sued yet since there's a sports drink with the same name.

But... if it makes money, ride the waves!  Good luck.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: eBoost (EBST) - Getting ready for a pump? on: August 23, 2017, 06:36:49 PM
Bought at 45, sold at 61  Grin Thanks greyworld!

Cheers!  Glad it worked out for you.
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Last chance to get some GEO before today's pump bump on: August 23, 2017, 05:51:14 PM
You think it`s worth to buy some at 50 now?

It looks like someone does, lotta buys coming in.   If it dips down much more I might buy some more.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain D3's in stock. (10:51pm EST 8/18/2017) on: August 23, 2017, 05:46:54 PM
Yeah I think Bitmain has a pretty good reputation, they sell thousands and you donīt hear a lot
of bad experiences.
They say on their website, that you have to pay within 1h after you completed your order,
otherwise the system canīt confirm your payment due to the high volume.

In that case you have to contact the support.

Go to their support site, you'll hear of hundreds of bad experiences within the last month.

I'll tell you all about my bad experience. I wired them $1200 the day I placed my order, and seven weeks later, my order is still marked 'unpaid'.

Their support staff has contacted me several times, they always ask for the same BS, I give it to them, they come back two weeks later and ask for it again.  Eventually one of them finds my money, shows me a screenshot of where they did receive it, and they still didn't mark my order as paid.  That was 3-4 weeks ago.

They just contacted me again last night, and asked for the same info that was already attached to the support thread they were responding to.

Bitmain is terrible and incompetent.
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Backtest/simulate buy & sell of all the altcoins on: August 23, 2017, 05:05:37 PM
Cool, I've been thinking about something similar to work out an effective robo-trading process.

Any suggestions where someone could get an archive of historical data for all the coins?
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Last chance to get some GEO before today's pump bump on: August 23, 2017, 04:38:49 PM
I think the dip is whales trying to spook people into panic selling so they can stock up.

Last two news came out mid-day Pacific time, that's 2-4 hours from now.

I let go of some at 68 so I've got a nice buffer to ride this out with. I'm holding the rest a while.
