221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The United States Just Declared WAR on BITCOIN "BITCOIN BELONGS TO THE WORLD " on: January 01, 2018, 04:20:54 PM
Guys, it's not a war a bitcoin.

First off, "Like kind exchanges" were repealed for every kind of asset except real estate ... stocks, bonds, precious metals, art, collectible cars, baseball cards ... everything.  Cryptos probably were not even an after thought compared to how much in taxes they will rake in just by stocks and bond trades alone.

Secondly, you were always required to pay taxes on profitable crypto trading, "like kind exchanges" only allowed you to delay your taxes until you sold or traded for another type of asset.

Remember, you not paying a tax to hold or trade bitcoin, you are paying a tax on profits.  Profits have ALWAYS been taxable.
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: WINGS ★ Where DAO Unicorns Are Born! ★ Token launched! on: January 01, 2018, 06:41:48 AM
Yes, there have been 5 rewards paid, but they appear to be months behind on some of the ICO.  Some of the early ICOs appear to have been delayed or are never ending (a bad sign, may never pan out), but quite a few have been done for a long time.

Bancor - Rewards paid
Adex- Rewards paid
Coindash- Rewards paid
stox-Rewards paid
Blackmoon-Rewards paid

I really don't understand why Wings is fading on Coin Market Cap ... it used to be around the top 70, IIRC, now it is 150ish ... The predictions and rewards can, and I think will be, amazing when they get it streamlined with smart contracts so that a person is not manually sorting them out.  They also said they want to eventually build in an exchange, where I assume we will be able to convert our reward tokens to Wings or other projects supported on the exchange. It is going to be a lot of fun.  And is it really cool that you don't lose your wings if you make a bad prediction, so it's not like betting or gambling.  Hopefully with the full launch of BETA we start to get some price traction.
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can we stop promoting Ripple? on: December 30, 2017, 02:26:11 PM
Ripple has a different business model.  That doesn't necessarily make it good or bad.

Funny thing is, if it were a bitcoin clone, people would be calling it clone scam.  If Ripple sets on a unique path, people bash it for not being like Bitcoin.  Can't win.

I like to buy and hold and diversify.  Ripple seemed like a good choice.  I'm not betting the farm on it, but I think it has potential.
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple's addition to coinbase??? on: December 30, 2017, 02:20:05 PM
I doubt Coinbase would let info like that leak, since they just had a mild embarrassment over "insider trading" with regards to Bitcoin Cash.

I think Ripple is a logical choice for Coinbase, but I would not trust a rumor.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your favorite coin for investment on: December 27, 2017, 04:35:42 AM
I voted for Ethereum, even though I think BTC is "digital gold".  But I think there is more upside in ethereum as a long term investment.
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CryptoCurrency market is crashing on: December 23, 2017, 05:14:38 PM
Right now every coin in the top 100 on Coinmarketcap.com is positive.  Never seen that before.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: WINGS ★ Where DAO Unicorns Are Born! ★ Token launched! on: December 22, 2017, 06:25:29 PM
Is forecasting paused until the Beta is launched?  Nothing new on the site.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WHO LOST COIN ON YOBiT on: December 22, 2017, 05:19:27 PM
It's YouBit (not Yobit) that was hacked, and from what I'm understanding, YouBit has filed bankruptcy and are only allowing user to withdraw 75% of their coins ... the other 25% will have to go through bankruptcy proceedings and you may get some of those back, eventually.  Perhaps not likely though, once the lawyers are done.
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can Raspberry Pi 3 GUI/desktop version stake 2 coins? on: December 21, 2017, 09:50:54 PM
What does a PI3 have, 1 GB Ram?

I'm looking one of my stating wallets and it uses 0.3GB RAM so with two coins and the RAM needed to run the OS, it would be close, I would think.  With 2GB, you are probably OK.

I don't think Staking is a high CPU usage activity, so I don't think you need to worry about temp.
231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buzzfeed Covering Bitcoin/Crypto? Mass adoption here we come lol on: December 19, 2017, 01:10:48 AM
My experience is that Bitcoin is still pretty hard to buy.  Coinbase treats you like it's National Security clearance, then both my bank and my Credit Card froze my account (my CC, even after approving the transaction, still did not allow a purchase to be made, but my bank eventually did) and then once you are approved, you are limited to a couple hundred dollars a week for several weeks, and the amount goes up pretty slow.  Then there are fees from Coinbase and high fees to transfer to a wallet which means you are already starting in a ~10% hole.  I'm not trying to FUD Bitcoin, but buying in is still pretty difficult ... an area where the community needs some serious improvement.

232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase are not going to add any ICO coins which ALTS will they add? on: December 17, 2017, 03:43:38 PM
I'm hoping that coinbase will focus on the top 10 ... I'd like to see Monero, Ripple, Dash, and maybe it's time to start considering Bitcoin Cash.

I'd really like to see coinbase expand.
233  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Unofficial] Exodus Wallet | Multi-Currency | Built-in Exchange on: December 15, 2017, 06:14:50 PM
Morning All,

I'm new to the forum and am looking for some help. I have the Exodus wallet installed on my Windows PC, but would like to move it to an encrypted USB drive. Is it as simple as copying the folder to my USB drive?

Also if I want to maintain a second backup copy of my wallet somewhere else, is the backup automatically kept up to date (i.e. when u open Exodus does it examine the blockchains to determine your holding) or do you regularly have to backup from your primary to keep your backup current? Apologies, I'm a bit of a noob - last time I was involved with crypto I left everything in an exchange (MTGOX) and that didn't end well :-( !

Thanks for your help.

Here is my understanding, and hopefully someone will correct me if I get anything wrong.

I don't think you can run Exodus off an encrypted USB drive, because it needs to be fully installed on a desktop.  Your wallet, however, is encrypted on your desktop once you've set the password and were given your "12 words", so it's pretty safe as long as you have a strong, and unique password.

As for the backup, all you need is your 12 words.  If you have those 12 words, you can install exodus on any computer, restore from the 12 words, and you'll have everything available to you, up to date.  No need for periodic back ups.  You can print the 12 words, and put in a safe place, or store the 12 words in a text file on an encrypted USB.

Also, if you want to be extra safe (and this would guard against situations where for some reason Exodus was discontinued and you could restore from the 12 words) you can store your private keys (keep them in a safe place, too).  Use Control-Shift-D to open the Developer's menu, then you can export your private keys.  Again, store them a safe or on an encrypted USB.

234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple deliberately keeping their price down? on: December 13, 2017, 04:30:51 AM
Seems like a fair question.  I know Ripple has a large supply sitting on the sideline out of circulation.  Is there any evidence they are releasing more into circulation when the price starts to rise?
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin is next Ethereum? on: December 11, 2017, 08:49:22 PM
The more I read about Cardano, the more I like it.  It's not ready yet, and still has risk that development will stall out, but if it's completed, it is the next generation of Ethereum.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [EBYTE] Etherball - Totally free distribution on: December 10, 2017, 02:36:31 AM
I did it, it worked.  I sent the transaction from Exodus Wallet.  I can't view the returning transaction in Exodus but I see on EtherScan that the Etherball came back in two transactions, just like you said.  Thanks.

Given the once a month waiting period, when is the next time I can claim?  Jan 1st, or one month from today, Jan 9th?
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: INVEST 500$ MONTHLY on: December 09, 2017, 12:53:13 AM
The timing might be hard, but accumulating bitcoin "on the dips" might not be a bad idea.
238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: You want to be a millionaire? if you own 0.01 btc you already are on: December 06, 2017, 08:03:24 PM
1 sat = $0.0001324146 so BTC would have to increase about 7500 times it price now for 1 sat to equal 1 dollar.

The price of Bitcoin would have to be $100 million each.  That may never happen.

240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AIRDROP] XNN - XENON - Massively Distributed EOS Alt-chain on: December 05, 2017, 01:48:45 AM
you're telling me you created XENON to avoid the ICO issues that EOS will have.

The Proposed Airdrop:
- Total tokens 1,000,000,000 XNN - 70% airdropped:
  - 300,000,000 XNN proportionally airdropped to all ether addresses with >0.1 ether
  - 200,000,000 XNN airdropped based on bitcoin proof-of-holding
  - 200,000,000 XNN airdropped via proof-of-individuality mechanisms
 - Much of the remaining XNN will be used in social media/bounty/referral campaigns and developer incentives

yet, your proposed airdrop, you keep 30% of the tokens...pretty much a 30% ico reserve for yourself.

this is such a joke, and no different than EOS.  nice scam.

Dude this stuff gets distributed for free, why are you even mad? It's normal to hold token back for future reserves and development.

Id say 30% is too much and implies a great capacity to manipulate the price

Their latest update seems to indicate that tokens will be distributed to partners and developers, as well.

But honestly, I don't care what they do with their 30%.  Giving away 70% is pretty generous and I'm frankly totally jacked about this project and looking forward to next year.  This could be better than EOS more widely distributed .... and I'm going to try to get in all three airdrops and see where it take us.
