221  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Stratum mining protocol - ASIC ready on: September 19, 2012, 03:47:30 AM
Any chance of doing zlib-compressed JSON on the wire, rather than uncompressed text?

Or, even better, using something like SSL (with compression) to avoid possible man-in-the-middle attack on the Stratum connection?
222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cannot be filled with Tungsten on: September 19, 2012, 03:33:04 AM
Bad news: I just checked one of my Bitcoins. I opened it up, and inside I actually found a LiteCoin!!!  This is a serious problem. I'm worried if I check my other Bitcoins the same thing will happen :/  Should I tell Gavin?

Lucky you. I hurried to test my Bitcoins .. opened them .. and found that they are inside made of just some random ASCII letters! Damn!
223  Economy / Economics / Re: Scaling bitcoin to world economy is unrealistic. on: September 16, 2012, 04:42:55 PM
The OP question is indeed very important. I have some doubts, too.

Either the time will prove the Bitcoin idea as wrong and noone will care (and current early adopters will loose).
Or it will prove as fundamental and great idea - but then it will be STOLEN.

You may ask how one could stole Bitcoin. Simply. Setup alternative currency and offer you multi-million user base (Apple users, US tax payers, etc.) an easy way how to cooperate in new virtual currency based on similar ideas, but INCOMPATIBLE with current Bitcoin.

Check the IQ distribution curve. There is not enough geek to fight with average Joe.
224  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ANN] Stratum mining protocol - ASIC ready on: September 16, 2012, 10:10:22 AM
After a day of playing and running through the Stratum mining proxy I must say I am really HAPPY with it. I can now manage 5 GPUs (1700 MH/s) total over 8 kbit/sec (yes, 1000 chars per second) poor local slow-ping GPRS limited connection link (tunelled via SSH with compression) without any problems and minimal stales! Something I was not able to accomplish previously with http requests (a lot of them).

Kudos to Slush! I think you should really more advertise this method.

Seems up again.

cgminer detects stale shares and does not submit them. However, there are pools which credits for stale shares. Is there an option how to force cgminer to try to submit all shares?
227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin 2 coming out next month? on: August 21, 2012, 10:33:13 PM
The major news of Bitcoin 2 is that they will replace the proof of work with proof of laziness.
228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin 2 coming out next month? on: August 19, 2012, 08:31:56 PM
Yeah, Bitcoin 2 will present the most wanted features. Namely bigger icons, transparent window background and nice sounds played when the wallet is being emptied.
229  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: August 16, 2012, 08:55:10 AM
I bet it is another MtGox glitch. I have pending both ASKs and BIDs and cannot cancel them either. Slow like trading using postcards.
230  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: August 15, 2012, 06:06:54 PM
Adam, spend like 10-25% of what you intended to spend, and if Murphy's Law works against you you'll be able to enter at lower point =)

Remember!:

You cannot count on any of Murphy's law (including this one).
231  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: August 11, 2012, 12:03:46 PM
Thats finally good technical analysis, IMHO. I was really tired of all those incomprehensible triangles, lines, channels. This shows the market mood much better.
232  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox Sell Orders Lacking on: August 09, 2012, 03:22:19 PM
Code:
*Resolved* [OUTAGE-#35046 ] Trading Unavailable

Is this really the 35 thousandth outage? That would be 32 a day for the last 3 years. It just looks weird...

No, I guess its just up to the MtGox quality standards.

Why the heck you simply do not rewrite the trading matching engine? Instead of silly "HALT" check.

.. but you can EXPECT product costing half the price you paid. And you can expect huge volume of such products.
234  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: My version of the Bitcoin Logo on: July 30, 2012, 09:18:33 PM
I feel a bit irritated by the different slant of the logo and the text. Could you try to align it better?
235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "All cryptography is breakable" criticism on: July 30, 2012, 04:29:53 PM
Couldn't an attacker replace unknown inputs/variables with known inputs/variables, then all of the targets data which uses encryption from that point forward would be breakable by the attacker?

That's where the double SHA256 will save our asses, IMHO. Reminds me that Satoshi had to be really smartass.
236  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: July 22, 2012, 03:21:06 PM
Thats similar to my thoughts:

Print left part of the redeem QR code on the right of side A, turn the note side-wise and print right part of the QR code, also on right of side B.

You then can half-fold the banknote to match left part to right part, forming complete QR code, to redeem. There can be some additional curvy lines guiding the correct fit.

You do not need transparent paper for this. Plus, you can torn the banknote in two parts, for redeeming you will need both parts.

Additionally, when there is single QR square for address and half-square for redeem on each side, I like the design more, its less boring.

Sorry for no images, but I am at campsite now Smiley.
237  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can we get an ETA on when trading will resume? on: July 21, 2012, 10:44:22 AM
Seems that trading has resumed.

CAN WE GET NOTICE IF THAT 40k BUY UP TO $9.30 WAS REAL OR NOT?
238  Economy / Speculation / Re: [PIC] exponential support? on: July 21, 2012, 10:41:27 AM
Never dare to extrapolate exponential ..  Wink
239  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: July 17, 2012, 07:47:28 PM
What about the idea that the private key is more (cryptographically) protected?

What about if there were TWO QR codes, one on each side of paper? And you would need to scan both and XOR them to compose the private key? Or, on left and right part of banknote, and you will "escrow" passing just first part, then the second one?

Just thinking ...
240  Economy / Collectibles / Re: How would you like to design a bitcoin banknote? on: July 17, 2012, 10:40:24 AM

The watermark is supposed to be the spot where to fold the bill to hide the private key.
It has one of Satoshi's equations in there. The probability of an attacker to succeed in double spending the coins by releasing a longer chain, or something like that. It's in the whitepaper.
The world map, because it's the first trully global currency.

Anything that needs to be changed?

IMHO this one looks most PRO. I wd definitely change the equation to something more inherit .. like elliptic curve equations etc.

Did not get the idea how the private key wd be hidden.
