221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN][PTS] February 28th Bitshares X Snapshot! on: February 24, 2014, 07:14:32 PM
28th February Invictus Innovations will take a snapshot of the PTS blockchain which will entitle all PTS holders at this point to a stake in Bitshares X due to launch on the Ides of March. You can also secure a stake in Bitshares X by donating via Bitshares AGS.

Bitshares X is a decentralized bank and exchange that will include assets such as bitUSD, bitGold, etc. that track the price of USD, Gold, etc. We'll have to wait and see how well the technology works, but the potential is huge. Visit the Bitshares forum for more information.

Update: Check out the new BitShares PTS & AGS Snapshot Explanation Video with Daniel Larimer

Update 2: Here's a rough calendar of the snapshot process for Bitshares PTS and AGS.

Feel free to send me a message if you're wondering about anything.

Disclaimer: PTS is a fair chunk of my portfolio and I am not affiliated with Invictus. If they decide to make an official announcement here, feel free to delete this thread.

Maybe. I feel that as I am not an official representative I can't really "announce." Hmm.

But that's where all the traffic is.  If this ends up being the only announcement I can see some backlash coming from the community.  I think it's only right to have a rep from Invictus make an official announcement on the appropriate board.  I don't know why they haven't.

I'm not sure either. I'll just copy this over there and we'll see what happens.

Are you guys kidding me? These are one of the most innovative companies out there.

I was drawn to Invictus purely by being interested in their ideas,

Just released a few days ago is the updated Bitshares X whitepaper. There's also a recent February newsletter worth reading for those interested in the progress of Invictus as a company. They also recently got a new website in connection to their attendance at the Miami Bitcoin Conference. Here's a video of a three-way panel with Daniel Larimer and a representative of Mastercoin and Ethereum at that conference. The website will be revamped and improved within the next month.

Both Daniel Larimer and his father Stan Larimer have been extremely open and published all their ideas. Daniel Larimer helped set the bounty for the most popular Bitcoin video ever made.

28th February the PTS/AGS snapshot for Bitshares X will be made. This means if you have PTS or AGS at 28th February you can claim Bitshares once it is released on the Ides of March. Check out the Bitsharestalk forum for more information.

236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][DGC][FBD] Free Bank of Digitalcoin ~ Risk Averse DGC Investments on: August 03, 2013, 11:05:53 AM
This bank is like a huge buywall, which will keep price from falling.

Price will keep going up and so the biggest problem will be to get enough DGC into the bank.

Baritus explained that the following will retain liquidity:

1. Shareholder involvement
2. Fees
3. Loans

Shareholders invest expecting a return, and this return is proportional to the fees charged by the bank. The people who loan money to the bank do so also in proportion to the fees charged by the bank.

So how does the bank determine the fee? This seems like the most crucial question. If it is too low, for instance, shareholders (and people giving loans) will simply buy DGC from the bank instead of investing in it.

There are lots of large holders who can and do easily manipulate the market by themselves. The more public a pump is the more it is a publicity stunt.
238  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-E.com exchange Bitcoin, Litecoin, Namecoin <-> USD\BTC (fee 0.2%) on: June 28, 2013, 09:07:40 PM
Why would BTC-E accept DGC rather than Freicoin and Devcoin (the coins they do not have that have the highest market cap)? http://coinmarketcap.com/
239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A thesis about Bitcoin on: June 11, 2013, 09:13:12 PM
If you want to convince people of fairness, the simplest thing would be to point to a number outside of your control and use that as the decider, e.g. the Xth digit of the price of Y at time Z decides the winner. Wink
240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [1 BTC Bounty] What is Bitcoin? on: June 05, 2013, 08:11:17 PM
I got introduced with roughly the following explanation.

Imagine a secure room with a great number of piggy banks. In this room there are a great number of cameras keeping watch over everything that is happening in the room. Anyone is free to place a camera in the room and keep watch for themselves, and anyone is free to place a piggy bank in the room to keep their money in.

Each piggy bank has a public name which anyone can see, and a private key which is given to whoever placed that particular piggy bank in the room. If you want someone to put money in your piggy bank, you can just tell them the public name of your piggy bank and they will be able to do so.

Whenever YOU want to take coins out of your piggy bank and put it in one of the other piggy banks (which belong to other people) imagine the following: Walking into the room, using your private key to open your piggy bank, and placing as many coins as you want in one of the other piggy banks.

The cameras in the room will not be able to see your identity or your private key. The cameras only see that things are done in the proper way; that piggy bank X was opened in the right way, and that a certain amount of coins from piggy bank X was put in piggy bank Y.

What are cameras? Cameras are (open source) programs that any computer can run when connected to the internet. Why do people contribute cameras? Each user is rewarded with a small amount of new coins to the extent that they help keep watch of the room. And the more people help by keeping watch, the more secure the room will be.
