How much to donate for phi algo spmod?
222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080ti hardware - best privacy coin on: January 19, 2018, 11:34:42 PM
While the zcoin rich list is on one hand a benefit it is also a detriment in that the best privacy would not allow for such a situation.  No rich list for Monero.  I completely agree that lyra2z is a very cool running, power efficient algo.  I miss that about zcoin.

Last couple months I've been messing up by mining something for a couple weeks, read about how its terrible, and fold up shop to move on.  Same thing happens again after I do more research I realize this is not "the one" and is a total scam or just inferior in some way to another coin.

Monero seems to be the best overall privacy coin and I'd like to own it.  I can't mine it though.  If I go that route then I'll have to do what people suggested here.  Mine something else then trade.

This afternoon I re-did my setup and am currently mining LUX and tweaking the GPU settings.  My intention is to read more about it and if I find out some things I don't like then this time I won't waste weeks on it.  I'll either move over to one of the other suggestions here (thanks btw) direct like XSH or just start mining whatever is most profitable then trade in for XMR.

ZEC has terrible profitability compared to say BTX,XVG,LUX, etc..  that is what keeps me from mining ZEC direct.

XVG,LUX, etc. are questionable to hold because they may be worthless. Not as enthusiastic about them as I once was and hence why I am looking at alternate courses of action here..

ZCoin has a rich list and it's almost as bad as ZEC to mine. High difficulty low reward etc..
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080ti hardware - best privacy coin on: January 19, 2018, 04:24:02 PM
Yah Zcash has some issues for sure. Trusted setup, comments from the CEO about backdoors, separate private addresses that require a lot of compute power to transact, privacy not default, etc..  Definitely not a slam dunk and it has high difficulty to mine.  Monero isn't perfect but it seems the best and getting better.

Are you suggesting mine whatever is most profitable then sell it and use the BTC to buy XLM?  Thanks
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 1080ti hardware - best privacy coin on: January 19, 2018, 01:59:08 PM
Been doing some reading and it seems like really Monero is as of now the best privacy coin.  Zcash maybe not bad too.  Everything else has one problem or another like rich lists, sender not concealed, etc..  Monero is difficult to mine and so is Zcash now.  With 1080ti hardware XMR in particular is a very bad option.  Both currencies are expensive to buy.

It would be nice to get away from mining coins that are either total scams or are fail in some other way like no use case, bad privacy, bad developers, etc..

Looking for pointers here from anyone who has experience and feels like sharing.  Please.  Doesn't strictly have to be a privacy coin either.

Not wanting to share and telling me to do my research is an acceptable answer too.  No feelers will be hurt.  I'm starting to look into it and it takes a lot of time which is one reason I do understand people guard their secrets.   Wink

$18/day?  Someone knows something I don't know.   Grin
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining during the correction on: January 17, 2018, 01:56:34 PM
Screw dialing it back.  Overclock FTW baby!

I only wish some miners would take a hike and dump the difficulty a bit for those of us sticking it out while everything is in the toilet.  lol

Does the "moron" part apply to people who fail at math too?
Cheesy
lol

I saw a MSI 1080ti go for $1220 a couple days ago on ebay.  In that case the titan makes more sense for $1130.  Speaking of I picked a couple up from nvidia to slam together a second computer and do a little extra mining.  Maybe load battlefront on there and see if I can get my wife to play along with me.   Grin

You guys can blame me for the bloodbath on the market since it started literally the day I put my order in for my second computer.

I want to like LUX like I want to like XVG. Neither one is without legit criticism.  They are both less trashy than some of the other alts which may not be saying much.

So hard to find that one or two alts to fall in love with. To mine and to hold. Through ups and downs. Until sell do us part.

You can check difficulty on what to mine.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One good thing about the crash on: January 17, 2018, 04:46:35 AM
I don't hold much and it's all in alt coins like xvg.  Sure hope they come back from this.  I don't and never did expect a rocket to the moon with a lambo lol.  Would be nice to have my coins worth something though.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One good thing about the crash on: January 17, 2018, 04:03:09 AM
As a small time miner I sorta wish they would give up for a while so I can get some quick and easy nuggets outta them hills lol.

Hopefully this scares away some of the people who just got into it or were going to get into it.
234  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One good thing about the crash on: January 17, 2018, 03:49:04 AM
Hasn't affected mining difficulty at all.  Miners aren't even batting an eyelash lol
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: One good thing about the crash on: January 17, 2018, 03:09:50 AM
We see more shitcoins geyting dumped, but i feel sorry to those who still hold them, i guess it was just due to Korea's banning on crypto, and those shitcoins were really affected.
You must be looking at a different chart than me.  The one I saw showed red all over the place.  And a metric ASS TON of it.
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: January 17, 2018, 01:35:21 AM
15-20 here too.. Let's hope the BTC will recover, getting scared now.
Wah?

LUX and XVG have both lost more than 15-20% and difficulty really hasn't moved down much.

I'm mining about the same amount but the value of both have gone down more like 35-40% easily over what they were.
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 5 Altcoins to survive in 2018 on: January 16, 2018, 02:28:58 PM
Bummer.  Most of the named ones so far are not able to be mined.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / confessions of a newb on: January 16, 2018, 02:12:03 PM
Got into mining with my gaming system recently.  Had no idea what I was "investing" in other than it seemed cool.

I've come to realize that unless you are trying to pump/dump which is not necessarily a piece of cake to time and also difficult to pull off with a small mining outfit.  It is real tough to figure out what are the more sound alt coin investments for long term and even if you figure out some good candidates they may or may not be good to mine with your hardware.

I am glad that I haven't bet the farm on mining this late in the game with so few good choices for a small time miner to produce.  All that said I am continuing to run my outfit for the sheer hobbyist enjoyment of the thing.  Mining with a computer is FUN to do as long as you haven't gotten in way over your head.  At this point I might lose a few thousand bucks on this that is the worst that can happen to me.

Other people who got WAY in deep may not be so lucky.

Anyone else feel the same?   Grin
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: January 15, 2018, 08:01:14 PM
Speaking of scams Bitcore looks like a pnd trashcoin to me.  LUX has more going for it.
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 1080Ti Specific - Best mining option on: January 15, 2018, 02:15:55 PM
nicee! currently i'm splitting my mining rig in LUX and XVG Smiley
I would love to mine both of those and then hold for a year to see what happens.  Sadly with only two 1080ti it doesn't make much sense to split the hash so I'm focusing on XVG right now.  Even if I had the money to add hash there is nothing out there to buy.   Cheesy
