221  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA miner monitoring RPC linux/win/osx/mips/arm/r-pi 3.12.3 on: February 16, 2014, 11:03:25 PM
I have a questions, Is CGMINER for mac OSX the same as the miner talked about in this thread ? The reason I ask is because I want to know if there is a way to have CG miner launch my terminal window with my default terminal settings.. I apologize if this is the wrong thread . was more of a vanity question really... just got burned out on CGminer opening in a bland black on white terminal window... all my other terminal windows open with the default settings.

maybe there should be a discussion over the transferree paying the 0.0001 transfer fee (take it out of the transfer amount) - then let the transferee select whatever amount they want to transfer as long as its over the transfer fee.

Ok, This discussion is kind of silly. Lowering the minimum payout would kind of be futile. You would end up with lots of little transactions in your wallet that you couldn't spend because it would cost you too much in Tx fees to put them back together. I mean, really, we are talking about withdrawing less than US$6. Do you really need to transfer that amount? Let it accumulate in you account until it is big enough. If you are mining so little... well that has been argued adnauseum.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I feel this answer was silly... Regardless of wether it's 6 dollars or less "IT''S MONEY" , not only that but it's money that has to get absorbed back into the general ledger and that is above the advertised 2% . That alone is something I would not want any part of if I were slush because it gives the appearance of impropriety . There are several fair solutions, but I'll just leave it at that. My point is, to dismiss any amount of money shows a total disrespect for money itself.

nobody except Slush knows for certain if there were technical issues or not. Making assertive claims that "luck" is "pure" seems incredibly naive and idealistic. There's a pattern of activity that looks more like a technical problem was resolved.

If there was a problem, you wouldn't have been getting shares.  If Slush had been keeping blocks for himself, they woudl show up on blockchain.info.
So yes, pure luck. Read up on gaussian distributions.

I never claimed he was keeping shares. I believe his own announcement stated when we approached 9xxx total hashing that the database choked. At some point shares above that value weren't happening for somebody out there trying to join this pool, but no it wasn't my shares being dropped, but that doesn't mean someone else's weren't. This would affect our relative position in the network, thus the restricted growth would lead to longer block times. The root cause does not have to be theft.

Edit: announcement was on 2/2 when "900th was within reach"- database connectivity issues. Here we are 2/7 at 820, meaning quite a few have bailed. Less hashing due to people bailing=longer rounds. What did we have? Connectivity issues. Why didn't we hit 900? Connectivity issues. Why are we at 820? People left. Why? Connectivity issues. Why is our luck bad? Restricted growth. Why? Connectivity issues. What is the root cause? You get the point.

I'm presenting a theory, another way to look at this beyond the face value approach. I'm not claiming to know all the answers. Let me ask this. When projecting luck do you use a normal distribution? if so, Has our luck pattern fallen within a normal distribution spread?

The way I read his last statement of "no issues" yesterday was just that... The issue you pointed out that was posted form the 2nd I believe, was resolved and closed out.. I see this a lot in my line of work, where a client will try to correlate two separate notices where in fact the notices are simply put "two notices" no relation .

Been a member since 2011, Just feel things have not been going so smooth since Jan 2014  Undecided

Slush is a good pool don't get me wrong, just wondering what happened my logs show stratum server went off line. I have a backup ADSL as well as my Fibre line and my local internet never dropped.

The connection to the Stratum server dropped!!

Hopefully over the next 24 hours Slush will rise from this 20%

Seems odd that other pools are racking in so many rounds in ahhhh luck these days Sad

I understand your questions a 100% , and when you are dealing with money only a dumb man doesn't ask questions ... I'm a little skeptical of people who replied to your post who have only, one or two history posts.. I myself am VERY new , and I understand your concern.. Honestly I would love to know the data points you keep an eye on so that I can learn more. As for the LARGE drop you seen... Keep this in mind... the stratum servers may not have went down, they may have only became unreachable from your point of view.. I work for a global ISP, and built the US's first OC 192 coast to coast... when traffic traverses the internet it has to pass from what I call the edge routers up to a particular route reflector that services a specific region of the US.. If the route reflector shifts this type of dynamic traffic, you WILL see a drop ... I have seen these complaints come in a MILLION times over from companies that deal in online trading of MAJOR us companies ... I can tell you this, It can happen .... The listeners of the stratum servers are up, but "a portion" of traffic is dropped on the traverse ... It all boils down to trust, honestly that sucks... but it is what it is .. I just got in this to play around and see what it is all about, like I said I'm a beginner when it comes to "Bitcoin" pools but I have YEARS and YEARS experience in networking and server support.. I have supported some of the worlds biggest businesses and I have seen things like this a lot and there is very rarely ill intention . I'm not saying that being skeptical is bad, its good to ask question, but you need to also understand the limitations of the answers that can be given .

I want to put my two cubes in my basement that has a temp of 48 to 58... would that cause any thermal damage if the cubes shut down and went through a rapid cool down... Just playing the what ifs so I'm making good decisions and not putting my toys in a dangerous situation ..

wow, getting ugly. . . pool luck is 20, 80, 95.. ..

actually glad I didnt buy some used knc jupiter miners recently. . .  not sure if its difficulty going up or just bad luck. .   the difficulty went up yesterday I think, but even before that we had 9 and 12 hour rounds popping up more frequently. .   I think the days of average rounds are rapidly passing us by. . .  beginning to think we'll see a lot more 8-12 hour rounds here.

almost 27 1/2 hours for  2 blocks.....that hurts just typing it....

Searing

Hurt even more watching it .
