Yeah, the convention itself probably is. I remember one conference was held last year at another ritzy Scottsdale hotel with BitInstant guys, and we just used that occasion to meet up and hang out. Perhaps we can meetup in the lobby, have some drinks and talk with Patrick if he's willing to stay into the night? Not sure what his schedule would be. I wouldn't mind seeing if I can email him and ask if he'd be open to that if there is enough interest.
Please let us know if it sounds like it may work out. I'd be game for coming up then.

I think that working with so-called "regulators" is a short road to a quick death for the security and privacy of crypto currency, if not the death of crypto currency itself. The would-be "regulators" should be told to go pound sand, as it were! My $.02. What is really needed to tell them to go pound sand is for some business to be willing to stand up to them and make them go to court. Hard to find businesses willing to do that, but clearly they exist, e.g. Lavabit.

So next you need to look at the definition of "authorized or adopted by the United States".
I don't know that anyone would argue that BTC is authorized or adopted by the United States.

I completly ignore FINCEN regulations and I encourage everyone else to do the same.
lol I remember the "Pet Rocks" they were actually a thing when I was a kid and people used to actually buy them.
FINCEN issued guidance. None of his has actually been tested in a court of law yet. Ignoring until there are clearer legal cases and precedents seems a reasonable strategy for an individual, perhaps more risky for a business.

Just received email from bitcoin foundation and found out that the General Counsel, Patrick Murck is giving a presentation in Scottsdale on October 16 for the Electronic Transactions Associations Strategic Leadership Forum at the Montelucia Resort and Spa. http://electran.org/events/slf13/I don't see Mr. Murck on the list of speakers, but maybe something to look out for. Interesting. I wonder how much that would be to attend? Looks like it could be spendy.

Why is this listed on a Bitcoin classified for sale site? They are setting up a new exchange but can't be bothered to have a domain?
Call me when he signs it with the genesis key.
Yes, that would be the only way to really prove it. Plus why would Satoshi be writing from gmx.net ?

Their announcement just re-hashed the usual set of excuses about why it is necessary to regulate BTC. I wouldn't interpret it as just information gathering. You can do that in much cheaper and less intrusive ways. They clearly want to figure out who they can possibly pursue legally.

Aww... just saw this meetup info. How'd the presentation go?! Presentation went very well and was quite informative. Next meetup on September 4th, Bitcoin Wednesday. Location yet to be determined. Yes, I wrote them the other day that there stated reasons for not accepting BTC are a sham. And they can have a donation from me when they accept BTC.

I believe that the Bitcoin Foundation's argument is that in California BTC doesn't meet the definition of a currency.
What about advertising and selling for cash on localbitcoins?
It seems like the guidance is quite unclear here. It mentions individuals trading bitcoins for goods and services as being in the clear. Also note that the definition of currency in many states excludes BTC (for example, CA).

My suggestion is that you keep contacting their service team until they settle the problem. For MT.gox, the change from Dwolla is unforeseen. Leave their feedbacks here. So that we can pay close attention to your problem. I agree that this is likely to be the most useful approach.

Seems like a good demographic for BTC payments, largely male with some facility with the computer. But does anyone pay for adult websites anymore?
I still prefer end-to-end encryption. There are some decent clients for GPG or PGP, we just need to get more people using them.

Personally I think the anniversary of the Genesis Block would be the best.

Yes they do because they have a new limit where if you trasfer money in to bx from dwolla and buy bitcoins you need to wait 31 days before you can transfer those coins out. Dwolla make them enforce this.
Perhaps to deal with the upcoming federal law about needing to be able to get your money back for a period of 30 mins if you are dealing with a licensed MSB ?

What is the jurisdiction for such a case against Mt. Gox. What do their terms of service say?
If you have to sue them in Japan, it will take a long time to get a judgement, and then good luck collecting.
I would think the strategy of starting to call them on the phone every day, and if necessary, twice a day, until you get your money back may be the most likely to obtain a result.
So you can't use them to move money into an exchange without their permission.
I assume CampBX must have their permission then?
Sounds like they are likely to grant it if you are trying to comply with FinCEN guidance.
