Well, the Counterparty dev team prioritizes security so we should really not be rushing them.  Smiley

I too would like to know about the release date. This is not to say we want a rushed release to mainnet but some sort of expected (or estimated) timeline would be helpful.

Maybe it will be mentioned in the next community update.

Is there a release date for Serpent scripts support in mainnet?

Yes, please retweet this if you can.  Smiley

Also, with all the recent XCP news I'm even MORE excited about BitSIM. http://www.bitsim.co/

Imagine being able to send and receive XCP assets on close to any cellphone ever (no smartphone needed). Maybe even participate in smart contracts...

So many fake and useless tokens @ the counterparty. It is time to restrict the unchecked assets issuing or to improve the issuing cost.

It's a decentralized protocol, nobody can restrict anyone else from accessing it, issuing assets, etc.

I would like to announce a 15 XCP Bounty for completing the German translation of Counterwallet, and another 15 XCP for the Finnish translation!

I know it's not much, but I hope it can provide at least some motivation to contribute to open-source.  Smiley

Missed out on the counterparty train. Watching closely though..

Really? Did you think that when Bitcoin was ~$8 too? Smiley

There is no doubt that the developers behind Counterparty are exceptionally talented and the coding may provide incredible utility for accomplishing revolutionary tasks.  I was initially extremely attracted to this as a potential investment vehicle (Bryne's plans are impressive), especially since there is no mining and a cap of less than 3 million coins.

However, from an investment standpoint, I have a real problem with getting optimistic about the longer term valuations of Counterparty because  1) all of the code is open source and it can be duplicated & lacks proprietary value; 2) Bitcoin itself could end up adopting these features; 3) a big player like Google could bring yet another coin with all of these features (and much more) which could overtake the dominate role for this space; and 4) there are no guarantees that Bryne's dream of an alternate exchange will be the one that actually gets off the ground with all of the regulatory hurdles and track record of contrary political positioning that has been so unpopular with regulators and Wall St. The scum hate him with a passion.  As a result, these factors pose a long term threat to the viability of this coin ever reaching significant value.

I would love to be proven wrong and, thus, provided with a good incentive to invest.  But I am afraid that what Counterparty has created for the free market is somewhat similar to what pharmaceutical drug companies would be up against if they ever attempted to patent naturally occurring, unaltered herbs and healing plants as cures for diseases.  There is nothing in place to protect the exclusivity or scarcity of this very impressive technology that has been released out into the wild.

Bitcoin itself cannot adopt the features, that's the point of XCP in the first place. They would have to convince users to use their new coin. One page before, there is a quote by Satoshi that advises against this being directly in the core.

Also, how would you get people to switch to XCP clones? And worrying about Google? To be fully honest I think all of this is really far fetched. Bitcoin has a substantial adoption and investment by now, along with code and infrastructure. Why would everyone drop everything and suddenly change? Such events would take months to even start, you'd notice...

And last and most importantly not least, Etherscript (Serpent), which is the scripting language for smart contracts is turing complete. You can pretty much do anything...
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: November 14, 2014, 05:20:49 PM
As i spend 80 bucks every paycheck on more and more xcp (buffet style value investing ftw) I keep wishing I could just print a paper wallet of an xcp private key with ease but that doesn't seem to be possible. I have half my xcp on bter and half on my counterwallet and I feel like neither location is safer than the other. There has to be a better way to safeguard this stuff in a way that won't require someone to just figure out my passphrase on counterwallet.

*edit* can someone explain what the "sign" a wallet functionality does? Or how that works?

You can print a Bitcoin paper wallet (public and private key), and store it there.

"Sign Message" is advanced functionality of Bitcoin which allows you to sign arbitrary messages to prove to that you are (were) in control of some Bitcoin address.

Have Medici any public schedule yet? This year? First half in next or anything?

Patrick Byrne is optimistic and says April, and the code will almost surely be done by then, but regulation can delay the process indefinitely. So we'll have to wait and see.
235  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: November 14, 2014, 02:44:01 PM
I have a basic wallet question if anyone can help. If I have an Electrum offline cold storage wallet for my BTC, can I use one of those wallet addresses for my XCP?

You can use literally any BTC address as long as you know the private key (so you can import it into Counterwallet).
236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: November 14, 2014, 01:08:31 PM
First of all, that graph is a horrible simplification. Secondly, XCP hasn't seen a real sell-off yet. Only now are any people who might sell it if a hint of bad news comes establishing any sort of position. I think to this point it's been people who did their homework.

Yeah, it's true. XCP is very hodl in strong hands. A substantial amount of burned coins are still in their place.
237  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT REWARDS ITS USERS |Gems public sale| on: November 14, 2014, 10:38:27 AM
I'm 100% certain that GEMS will do better on the Android platform, but to start out on the iOS platform is brilliant because it makes iOS users feel special.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT REWARDS ITS USERS |Gems public sale| on: November 14, 2014, 09:22:44 AM
Android at launch?

No.

Our mobile apps are completely native. We develop for each platform (iOS/Android) separately and that's in order to reach vey highest quality possible. Cross platform solutions like phonegap or appcelerator are cheaper to make but result in lower quality apps. Our iOS app is written in Objective C and our Android app will be written in Java. If you compare the underlying technology for other serious apps like WhatsApp or Facebook, you will see the same implementation choice. We need the presale funds to be able to develop and support both platforms. To keep things "fair" we can start the airdrop compensation model only when both iOS and Android apps are ready.

Even though this makes a lot of people grumpy, I think native app-support is absolutely critical. GEMS made the right choice  Smiley

Is CounterParty (XCP) severely undervalued?

yes

And the answer is still yes at this point.

+1

I'm guessing > $100

Reposting this since apparently according to some users, "this new contracts feature has not even been proven to exist"...

The result is hosted on GitHub (https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterpartyd/tree/contracts) and open for public testing. Today, you can take Turing Complete Ethereum code, or write your own, and run it on Bitcoin with Counterparty. Anything that one could ever do with Ethereum, one can now do with Bitcoin and Counterparty.
