221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, How Long Will It Last? on: February 15, 2015, 02:14:07 PM
bitcoin will exists as long as i live as i will always have the blockchain.

The blockchain won't be very useful if the miners cease and you're the only person using it. The blockchain will slowly fizzle away if something superior comes along.

Bitcoin analysts says that Bitcoin price will have an imminent slump in days to come.
I see these kinds of posts on a regular basis, and I have to wonder whether any of the posters actually believe it, or are just trolling/pumping/dumping.

On the remote possibility that you actually believe what you're posting, let me point out that if any "analyst" could accurately predict that the price was going to go up or down, they would become very rich very quick.  The price is what the price is, and reflects the sum total of all expectations of rise/fall.

Some are trolling, some are just niave, and some are just looking for any sort of clues about what will happen.

Until the internet is gone. There is no reason why bitcoin won't last or be around. Its value is unpredictable  but it will continue to be widely used. There was a document someone had posted on here where a gentleman suggested that bitcoin could potentially see 50 million users on the network by the end of 2015.

Again I think the only way bitcoin will die is if something else comes along that is far better and people will abandon bitcoin en mass.

Forever until me die  Grin Grin

222  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What Is The Real Reason.. on: February 14, 2015, 02:12:18 PM
It does seem silly that they stopped their own service, but maybe not many people were using it and ChangeTip is pretty popular. Maybe there is some truth in the rumour they want to buy it.
223  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: February 14, 2015, 02:09:44 PM
Are there any new fixed/weekly campaigns? MultiDice is closing and CoinSweeper has no slots. Sad

No. Those slots get taken very fast, though they're usually for Full Members and above. I believe Luckybit has some slots still open for FM but not much use to you.

Whitehouse

Thanks for the free coins.
225  Economy / Speculation / Re: What is your price ? on: February 14, 2015, 01:58:00 PM
This whole question is wrong.

I will never again exchange my bitcoins for fiat. Soon you can use bitcoin to pay for anything you need. Then there is no longer any need to look at bitcoin as how many dollars you can get for them.

This is something I want also. Don't get me wrong, I want to hold them for a while until I think they achieve a value I think they are worth, but I want to be able to actually spend my coins on things I need, including paying my bills directly.
226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not gold on: February 13, 2015, 11:09:34 AM
Bitcoin and gold are two completely different things, people just use the analogy of bitcoin being like gold for a comparison the masses can comprehend.
227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people think cheap of those who say they want to get rich from bitcoin! on: February 13, 2015, 11:07:19 AM
you WILL NOT become rich from bitcoin.  sorry to say.  because you wont invest enough.

What does this have to do with the thread. Did you read the op? This isn't him asking if he'll become rich but why others look down on those who are only in it for the money.
228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, How Long Will It Last? on: February 13, 2015, 11:05:40 AM
Nobody knows how long bitcoin will last but that's the experiment we are a part of. Maybe it will collapse this year or next, or maybe it will still be running for hundreds of years. Whatever happens to bitcoin its influence will live on in new currencies or technologies that come along.
229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BItcoin offline transactions? on: February 13, 2015, 11:01:59 AM
Yes, you can exchange a paper wallet or coin wallet for goods or services.

But until the buyer can import or send the key, so still can the seller. The keys need to be safely in your possession for them to be truly yours.
230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Many Bitcoiners are Mentally Ill? on: February 13, 2015, 10:59:51 AM
It's probably more akin to being passionate or just looking for excitement than being actually mentally ill, though I don't doubt there are some crazy people here. Some people also act nuts when there's money involved. Maybe they're just delusional or stupid, but not usually mentally ill.

232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will 2015 be bitcoin’s year? on: February 05, 2015, 10:52:08 AM
2015 would a important year for Bitcoin: to live or to die.

Most accurate response in this entire topic.

and false too  Grin

It's all speculation, but I think bitcoin has a long life left yet, but it could go tits up if something far superior came along, though if that was going to happen it likely already would have. I think 2015 will be another relatively disappointing year regarding the price but it'll have a few ups and downs and a lot of merchants getting involved but this wont necessarily be reflected in its fiat value.

Bitcoin will live for few years at least as hot sauce...every year is important for BTC..as it is still pretty much in early stages..

Hot Sauce? What does that even mean?
233  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-01-31] The Silk Road trial is proof positive that bitcoin is not anonymous on: February 03, 2015, 03:58:32 PM
I think the Silk Road trial is proof positive that Ross Ulbricht is not anonymous. There are ways to remain completely anonymous even whilst running a darknet market but he made some schoolboy errors and has paid dearly for them. If you're going to run such a market yopu need to be so paranoid with your security that you triple check everything to make sure you're covered before you even set the site up but most importantly during.

But we do believe that cryptocurrencies will become a major, disruptive presence in global finance -- and we are watching carefully. Over the next several years, as global central banks continue their all-out war on deflation, cryptocurrencies may gradually rise in prominence as an alternative form of money that, like gold, is insulated from the macro policy goals of governments.

I certainly think they have the potential to, but whether they will or not time will only tell. I think there's massive potential in things like the remittance market where the benefits and savings of using bitcoin are clear as day. I just hope the rest of the world sees this.
235  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-01-29] McDonald’s might start accepting Bitcoin soon on: February 03, 2015, 03:53:05 PM
Nope, I disagree with you.

A business does keep some capital back as a saving for a rainy day... The problem with Bitcoin/Merchants are that they use Bitcoin as a vehicle to get more money, and then they hoard none of it, and they just convert back to fiat. They will then pay their overheads and deposit the rest in a savings account at a bank.

Does that capital they keep in the bank lose 30% of it's value over a few days? Companies cannot afford to operate by saving funds in a currency that can rapidly deplete in such a fashion and that's the reason companies use payment processors.
236  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoins price on: February 03, 2015, 03:47:05 PM
Now is a good a time as any to buy bitcoins but nobody can tell you if it's the right time or whether its going to go up and down as it's all speculation. Put some money on an exchange and set some buy orders at a price you're happy with and have some patience.

Don't buy bitcoins.

Convert your currency to Bitcoin.

Then use your new currency as you would your own currency (with improvements).

When looking at 3D TVs do you think..."I need to time this right so I can buy at a good price" or "cool...now I can watch TV in 3D, I need to buy one of those TVs so I can start to experience it"?

I time it right to buy at a good price. If you shop around you can always find a discount and if you wait a little the price will eventually come down, though the opposite is also true, and the same goes for bitcoin.
237  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin cash? on: February 03, 2015, 03:40:40 PM
Agree. Actually, Bitcoin is better than traditional paper cash. If you're at work and your paper money is at home, it can't be accessed immediately or near-immediately.

Bitcoins, on the other hand, can be accessed immediately even if you're at the North Pole.

Really? They have internet connections at the North Pole? I think bitcoin has pros and cons, and believe me I'm a big fan, but the price fluctuations currently don't make it an ideal currency, though I realize that's just its fiat value and 1btc is still worth 1btc, but it needs to be a better store of value/
238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ross Ulbricht faces a potential life sentence starting tomorrow. on: February 03, 2015, 03:35:58 PM

If it is true he deserves the prize of dumbest criminal of the recent history

i think he already won with:

- living in the USA, i guess you shouldn't if you run Silk Road
- manage it from a public cafe, open laptop with no encryption
- paying a hitman on internet, proving the crime with a picture (loal)

if he really was the admin, he must be the winner for that prize

Ross is a complete paradox. I think he's a mastermind in some respects and obviously very clever, though it is clear he has also done some ridiculously stupid things. If you're going to run something like a darknet market you need to make sure you're paranoid to the point where it becomes an obsession for you to cover every single one of your tracks. He seemed like he didn't care about certain things and was very sloppy. He didn't even bother mixing his coins and they were traced directly to SR from his own wallet. Very foolish.
239  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will 2015 be bitcoin’s year? on: February 03, 2015, 03:27:24 PM
That was 2013.

And 2014. People will say this indefinitely until it does actually happen. I suppose it depends what you mean by 'bitcoin's year' as well. Personally I don't care whether it happens this year or next, but I would like to see some decent gains or at least a new all time high within five years and a lot of merchant adoption (I want to be able to spend my coins freely). I think more and more money is coming into bitcoin and both more merchants and bitcoin users are getting involved so I think it will happen sooner or later.
240  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reputation System for Bitcoin addressses on: February 03, 2015, 03:18:10 PM
Not sure how the system works out because there's no in depth details just yet. For one I can imagine if let's say I'm a seller at forum marketplace, can certainly use this as a reputation system to establish whether I'm a trusted seller. This without relying the internal forum feedback system and I can certainly use this similar reputation system on different forum platforms

It`s interesting idea. I do prefer to have different address on each transaction and build trust on the feedback from the others to my accounts in different systems and forums.

I don't mind the prospect of it and it has a purpose but I won't really be interested in using it though there are going to be a lot of people really against the idea, but there's nothing people can do to stop the creation of things like this. I guess that's the beauty of bitcoin.
