221  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some people say they will never sell BTC. Is there any reason for that? on: November 24, 2023, 11:24:48 AM
So, time to time, I see some people saying they will never sell BTC. And I am thinking why is that? (I mean I understand that you can't say never, there will be a time you will have to use your BTC). Anyway, is there any calculations, reasoning behind this? Or it is just pure maximalism?

If there are reasons I would like to discuss them.
Its not true if there comes a time where they really need money, and don't have any choice they will sell their bitcoin, its just a matter of how important the situation, like for example hospitalization, or wedding, etc, it will come down how badly he needed money.
222  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Binance CEO CZ bumaba sa pwesto, at nagkipagsettle on: November 24, 2023, 02:22:31 AM
Nakakabigla talaga ang balitang ito pero best way na talaga ata ito to keep the platform alive and continue their operation. Isa lang sa patunay na si Bitcoin ay still dominant and hinde basta basta maapektuhan ng Fud with altcoins, lucky to those who can still buy at a cheaper price. I’m also taking risk to catch BNB sana worth it.

223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Often Do You Check Your Seed Phrase. on: November 24, 2023, 01:47:01 AM
What i always do is secure where it is stored and make backups in case of failure, of a device, your seed will not be changed unless you overwrite it by accident, which is very unfortunate, also the reason why I always not look at the seed, because sometimes when you are opening it and then suddenly it hangs and you click and it's not moving without your idea.
224  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Zeal | a new competitor to other cryptocurrency wallets? on: November 24, 2023, 01:23:25 AM
This might attract users since they are quoting zero bank transfer, I am not sure about the limit amount has zero transfer fees, they said it supports usdc on polygon network, BGP NGN, EURO

226  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / bakit nga ba hindi makalipat ang mga users from windows to linux flavors? on: November 22, 2023, 07:58:39 AM

227  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which Linux distribution would you use now? on: November 22, 2023, 05:02:13 AM
While I currently use kubuntu for my daily driver, I wouldn't use it for a web server or anything that I was concerned about leaking data to third parties.

For Bitcoin and secure crypto transactions, I would look into Manjaro or any Arch distribution powerful enough to handle the necessary software.
Linux has desktop and server OS, while you can use desktop OS for the webserver it is recommended to use server OS for web servers, more likely to use minimal iso image for that since you will only need to run what is needed for the web servers,
Linux flavors are safe, if they have been compromised it means you messed up the configuration firewall and permissions.
228  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Largest crypto exchange CEO arrested! Anyone getting deja vu? on: November 22, 2023, 02:53:36 AM
The typical US trying to hold everyone in the neck, to take control of everything, but the issue is bigger than that, Binance is big wall stopping the US from taking control of a big part of the crypto industry, and if they will not yield find something against them, this BlackRock and other big companies scrambling to enter into crypto is part of the US.
229  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Binance CEO CZ bumaba sa pwesto, at nagkipagsettle on: November 22, 2023, 02:05:55 AM

230  Other / Beginners & Help / CZ steps down as Binance CEO on: November 21, 2023, 11:19:12 PM
Will the CEO of binance have a big impact on the price of crypto or only on Binance coin?
we have seen what happens before if there is an important figure being prosecuted by a country like the US there is a big swing in the price it might be good or bad depending on the person's popularity, we know CZ has the majority of the stocks, what will happen if he sold all those, will it affect the crypto space?
And with the new CEO Richard Teng can he continue what CZ has been started or Binance will have a different path in the future?
what are your thoughts?

231  Local / Pamilihan / Binance CEO CZ bumaba sa pwesto, at nagkipagsettle on: November 21, 2023, 11:03:19 PM

bittrex will be closing and stopping operation, so make sure that your that if you have funds in Bittrex make sure to transfer it to your wallet or on an exchange of your choice but it is best if you have your wallet where you have full control.
They said the reason for closing is because US Bittrex is bankrupt.
I hope this helps, and makes members aware to transfer their funds out of Bittrex.

235  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Which Linux distribution would you use now? on: November 17, 2023, 04:11:03 AM
I have been running the same distro for years and now im basically forced to wipe the install and start from scratch because they stopped rolling updates. I was using Elementary OS version 5 and as you can see the Ubuntu release it's based on doesn't do updates anymore.

elementary OS Version    Released    Ubuntu Release    Ubuntu Maintenance Updates
0.4 Loki                            Sep 9, 2016    16.04 LTS    April 2021
5 Juno                            Oct 16, 2018    18.04 LTS    April 2023
5.1 Hera                            Dec 3, 2019    18.04 LTS    April 2023
6 Odin                            Aug 10, 2021    20.04 LTS    April 2025
6.1 Jólnir                            Dec 20, 2021    20.04 LTS    April 2025
7.0 Horus                            Jan 31, 2023    22.04 LTS    April 2027

I want to ask what people here are using. I want something that is easy to install that has full disk encryption features during the install on the GUI. And basically something without privacy unfriendly bloatware (like Ubuntu).

I would also like something that doesn't force you to wipe your stuff and start from scratch every 2 or 3 years.

I was looking at n0nce's guide on OpenSUSE. I have never tried that one. Not sure if meets the criteria but having a guide is really nice and would save a lot of time. But there's not much documentation in regards to Bitcoin, most of it is Ubuntu or Debian based. Someone commented this:

Quote
SUSE is rather painful to get in to in some aspects. I did many custom deployments of OS and post install automatic configuration. Suse frustrated me because they put things in different places compared to  most of the other distros, and have an extremely capable and complicated installation control file. Unfortunately, it is not easily created and the documentation is partially missing. To allow users/admins to make use of control files; ALL the possible valid options must be listed in the documentation and this documentation needs to be in a well known or easily found location. It is only AFTER investing considerable time that I came to appreciate the odd and different over-engineered aspects of SUSE. It is very powerful.

So I would rather use something more common. I want to be able to search for stuff and find answers.

mocacinno has a guide for CentOS, but it hasn't been update in 3 years so probably there's some stuff that changed.

Does anyone maintain any other guides for different distros? Im interested in mostly a Bitcoin Core node to form transaction in a desktop install, and a watch-only wallet to broadcast them and check funds, and do this through Tor with a laptop.

There has to be a simple OS that just works. But I guess im going to need to go with Ubuntu based ones so that will require full updates every 2 or 3 years when LTS versions run out of updates. And since I use full disk encryption im going to need to reinstall the whole think backing up the wallets and resync. I guess I can do that every few years. In that case I would try the new ElementaryOS but I would like to know what people hereare using, please let me know so I decide what to install.
The most common is Ubuntu since there is community support, and easy to install, also meets your requirement, they have upgrades but ofcourse even those who are familiar with linux always do backups when worse happen they have something to restore, you are responsible on what you run on linux or ubuntu, it won't run it unless you say so, even the firewall, 5 years is already long enough, what are you trying to achieve? security updates or application updates? I've been using ubuntu for years now I'm still have one running ubuntu 16, also someone using slackware though it has different purpose and still running for almost 10yrs or more now, without issue.
236  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Warning]: Impersonation and spoofing of crypto related companies on Twitter on: November 16, 2023, 09:46:52 AM
There were reports of another scam attack thru impersonation, but this time it's different, they uses blockchain analytics or crypto fraud investigation firms and researchers, like CertiK, ZachXBT, and Scam Sniffer to fabricate that there was such breaches on Uniswap and OpenSea.

So to impersonate, this cyber criminals a Twitter name that resembles the legit ones. For example,

ZachXBT has the account @zachxbt, while the criminals created and tweeted from @zacheryxbt.

And after you click, you will be redirected to two websites:

Code:
http://revoketokens.io/
Code:
http://revokea.sh/

Good that this website has been taken down and offline, but the criminals was able to run off initially with $50,000. And I felt sorry for those victims. So in any case that this kind of attacks resurfaces again, just be cautious though and check everything first before you go and click any link.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/fraudsters-make-50-000-a-day-by-spoofing-crypto-researchers/
why do we still fall for these kinds of schemes, this thing has happened before and is not new in the internet space, before email spoofing where they send a message saying they have to pay a certain SI or sales invoice, and since the email name looks legit they process the transaction, without looking at the email header
See the example:

The green and the red should be the same if they are not the same you should not process anything or don't even click a link
so we are better aware of this, clearly, they have evolved how they are going to trick people, so we better also evolve for our protection by being vigilant and careful, double check everything or checking it multiple times like how we transfer funds, before processing or clicking something to avoid this kind of thing from happening.

239  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Avoid trading crypto in real person. You can see this now on Binance. on: November 16, 2023, 12:07:50 AM
This has just began on Binance and this is what will be happening on other exchanges.

We can see recently how robbers attacked bitcoin and other crypto users and this is becoming common. These are two recent ones:

Swedish Bitcoiners targeted by armed criminals
Binance Client Executives Kidnapped, Forced to Empty Crypto Wallet

You can now trade bitcoin and other crypto with other local traders on Binance and you will meet at a particular place that both of you talked about.

This is just not different from KYC if you trade with bad person. Avoid such physical trading.
Meeting them in a place or at your home is not a great idea at all, I heard news before where they get into his house and take all his crypto, since you have no choice, my suggestion is to use the features of the exchange to sell your crypto since dealing with them in person can go wrong, don't think about the small fee's that will be charge, instead think of the convenience and safety of your money and family in the first place, since during this days some people will do anything for money , even taking lives for it.
240  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Can we create a thread/post in english here the same as Indian Board? on: November 15, 2023, 10:25:02 AM
okay din sakin as long as madami ngpaparticipate sa topic alam ko madaming pinoy dito eh pero mas pinipili nila sa ibang boards siguro kasi dahil nadin sa tulad ng sabi ninyo mas naeexpress nila sarili nila duon at the same time siguro with merits na nakukuha nila, pero siguro mas okay natin for practice ng proper english at communication para hindi tayo hirap sa other boards.
