221  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the differences between this 2 gamblers? on: July 24, 2024, 08:55:58 AM
Hello gambler.
Am just wondering if one is gambling everyday (24/7) and he's winning in all his predictions (let's say 90% of his games are won) we do not call the person an addicted gambler, but we only say that he's an expert gambler. But if a gambler is not winning and he's gambling everyday we do call the person an addicted gambler.

Quote
If a gambler is always winning we won't say that the gambler is addicted to gamble but we will say that the gambler is an expert in predicting games.
However this days we do not call those that are winning addicted gamblers but we call those that are losing addicted gamblers.
This quote made me create this thread.
I made comments on a similar topic yesterday and I still stand by what I said in that thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5503836.msg64351918#msg64351918. Gambling addiction doesn't really have to do with winnings and losing, it's about the state of mind of the gambler. It's not only when a gambler is losing that can lead to addiction, winnings also leads to addiction, a person that cannot control their gambling behavior is an addict, that is the way I see it. Although people can easily identity addicts that are loosing money because they're always broke and looking for ways to raise money to gamble.

223  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My advice: A gambling addict brother. on: July 24, 2024, 06:04:24 AM
Gambling addicts are always a problem to their loved ones, they're always broke and in need of more money to gamble. So far your neighbor has been given his brother money before and the guy kept squandering them on irresponsible gambling, I think that you did the right thing by advising him not to give him money. Although as his family, he shouldn't abandon his brother, instead he should support the addicted brother to get help first. The addicted brother can get professional help or from individuals like you that have experience in gambling. After the period of rehab, if your neighbor is convinced that his brother has changed, then he can monitor the payments of what his brother needs to start a business. Gambling addicted family members needs help not abandonment.
224  Economy / Economics / Re: Do you have Same problem or you know someone who got same problem? To spend money on: July 23, 2024, 04:09:53 PM
I believe that luxury is in the eyes of the beholder, that is a person that values the item. The rich prioritize some goods in the luxury class so that they can lavish their money on it, feeling satisfied that what they're buying is out of reach of the average income earners. I sometimes see a designer watch that costs a fortune to buy and I wonder what makes them so special, I realize that it's because the makers has prioritized it strictly for the rich. But a person that doesn't know the value that is attached to the watch will not value it, infact they'll rather pick a bicycle that they feel is more valuable to them than the very expensive watch. People should not feel intimidated by luxury items, that is somebody's business to reap off from the ego of the rich.

226  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ever Projected how to spend gambling profits while the game has not played yet? on: July 23, 2024, 11:25:23 AM

As a matter of fact, he was nowhere to be found all through the weekend and could not even take his calls because he felt messed up of himself for the false promises.
While time passes by, you can imagine how he narrated the stories and felt remorseful of being a d!ck head as the game failed him as predicted.
That is what happens when someone makes plans on mere promises or something that relies on luck or chances to happen. It was good that he felt remorseful and understand that he's plans of hosting his friends from a gamble win that has not yet happened was very a dumb plan. People must understand that making money from gambling is not the same thing as buying and selling where you're sure to make profits after sales, gambling is what it's name implies, you gamble your funds to win more money but you can loose your funds in the process. Gambling is based on luck and should never be relied on for any expenses because it's either win or lose, most times it's loses.
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So Emercoin was a pump and dump? on: July 23, 2024, 09:58:02 AM
well one thing for sure is that it's a dead coin.
...

Dead or dormant? It's only dead when the Blockchain stops working (nodes and miners/stakers stop supporting it).

Exactly this. Its not dead, just un-used and illiquid.

I tried to explain why it will never totally die in my first post in this thread.
Dead or dormant doesn't matter to a bagholder of EMC, what will matter to them is that the crypto is worthless as it is now. What good is it to them when there's no activities on it's Blockchain and who knows when a revival will happen or if it'll ever happen. The developers have probably moved on to other projects and are focusing all their innovations there, so we'll just have to wait and see what will happen to Emercoin, whether it will kickstart, remain dormant or become dead. Investing in altcoins is gamble, investors should buy them with the amount that they can afford to loose.
228  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: When you're winning it's fun but when you're losing it's addictive right? on: July 23, 2024, 07:49:51 AM
Gambling addiction goes beyond winning and losing, it is a state of mind where a gambler cannot control their gambling emotions. A gambler can be winning, yet he'll be obsessed with winning more and more until it starts to affect his mental health. He'll be in the casino, bet shop or on phone all day, more than he should and ignore other important activities. Although I agree that gambling addiction happens more when a gambler is losing and most times as a result of chasing loses. A gambling addict will sale their properties and take loans to fund their gambling and as they're loosing they'll be obsessed with looking for more money to gamble.

If a person gambles responsibly by doing so with the amount that he can afford to loose, I think that he'll still have fun whether he wins or not. Although we can't deny that gambling is more fun when you're winning but it doesn't mean that it's addiction when you're loosing, unless the gambler is already an addict.

230  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you stake it all put of over confidence in your club on: July 22, 2024, 10:19:46 AM
Have anyone ever had confidence in any match that he was willing to be huge amounts to back up the confidence in a match that features his club. A friend of mine recently shocked me with how much passion and confidence he had in his club, man u vs liverpool  that happened on Sunday I guess was a very hard match cause Liverpool was already stomping 0:2 to man United but my friend was telling that man United won't lose the match, so I told him that if he has much confidence that he should stake life, shocking to me he went on and staked 5k on man United win to qualify which was about 7 odds at that time, and yeah it turned out right for him. Can any one do this or was it a foolish move?
This is the way of gamblers, sometimes they can stake crazy bets that the odds of winnings will seem very minimal. Sometimes it's overconfidence or they just want to use it to proof a point to themselves and others that they've got the guts to take high risks. But it's ok if a high risk gambler is using the amount that he can afford to loose, so it won't matter so much if he loses the bet, but it'll be unwise if a gambler will bet impulsively with a huge amount that he can not afford to loose. Gambling is a game of luck no matter how good you are at analyzing, so it was your friend's lucky day.
231  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Why I think affiliate marketing is a scam on: July 22, 2024, 09:18:25 AM
Scams plenty for affiliate marketing, aldo no be all of dem but I believe say most of dem na scams. E get one of my friends wey de always spam my WhatsApp with plenty links to dis affiliate marketing and influencers wey de hype about how you go de make up to $50 or more everyday. Some of dem go come up with genuine products and how you go take de make plenty money on top. Dem go collect registration fees and oda fees for materials, dem go even organize seminar, but in di end many perticipants no go benefit anything.

E get a friend wey de very excited say im life go soon change say im don register for seminar to de grow and produce mushrooms for exports. After spending time and money, na later in come understand say person need plenty money to establish in a big way before you go fit to export and make money. But di scam be say di organizers go paint di picture say immediately after di training you go begin to de make money. Dem go give ignorant people false hope and scam dem of di small money wey dem hold.
232  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is gambling to you, a fanfare or potential financial havoc? on: July 22, 2024, 07:08:34 AM
How can one draw a line between having fun and getting addicted since they occurr in the same process?

Would education on gambling side effect help some people nor to get too engaged in it despite the thrilling experience it can offer?

People have asked this kind of question several times and we give the same answers to it. You like to gamble but you do not want to spend much money on gambling in a way that gambling will not affect you, then you can have a gambling budget that you can fund weekly with just 5% of your weekly income or less. The less percent of your income that you use for the budget the better you will be. Any gambler that read this and follow it will thank me.
This is also what I advocate for, have a gambling budget and let the amount to be what you can afford to loose. When you're gambling with the amount that you can afford to loose, you will not be under pressure when gambling, it wouldn't matter so much to you if you loose a bet. If the guy in the OP story that bet with the friend that the looser will buy drinks for the winner, assuming the amount for the drink is what he can afford to loose easily, he won't be so much under pressure that he was loosing.

The best education that anybody can get about gambling is to gamble responsibly on a budget, don't exceed the budget and don't chase loses

234  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do ex-players make better pundits than non-players? on: July 21, 2024, 11:38:10 AM
I think that being a superb sports pundit has to do with the passion for commentary, not necessarily being an ex player. I've seen many none players who do excellent jobs as sports pundits, you could see the raw passion when they're analyzing players and matches. But I must admit that an ex player pundit adds color to sports commentary, football fans like to see some of their favorite ex footballers in the pundit. I believe that the presence of ex players as pundits makes some people to pick interest in listening to what they have to say. Although as far as match predictions go, even ex players can get it wrong despite their practical experiences in football, still people likes to hear what their opinions are.
235  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Do you agree with this Bitcoin price analysis? on: July 21, 2024, 09:51:31 AM
Bitcoin na volatile asset and based on dat, e no easy to give accurate predictions of wetin di price go be for future. Dat na why I de happy as di writer talk for di link wey you share say di analysis no be investment advise. With my knowledge so far for Bitcoin matter, my decision for di investment be say I no go de worry about price speculations. Di most important thing be say Bitcoin go de reach new ATH price on di long term and my ROI go de increase.

Bitcoin price fi to surprise you say e go leap pass $300k by 2030 or e fit no reach like dat, di important thing for me be say make ATH de happen for every bull run. Di average investor wey hodl Bitcoin no get my influence over wetin price go be, except for whales wey fit to manipulate price on the short term. Make we just buy, hodl and wait till di forces of demand and supply go make am skyrocket to new ATH price.
236  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can solitaire be a game of chance? on: July 21, 2024, 08:10:39 AM
Can puzzles even be games of chance?
Puzzle are never a game of chance, but rather a game of critical thinking whereby a person is given a clue to further  test his knowledge if he could be able to correctly answer it, most especially when it comes to Puzzle games where shapes, images or objects are given for one to identify which one matches the exact image or object given. But however, the only area where I think puzzle can be inculcated into gambling is if it's been added with timer, whereby an individual is given an object and asked to guess the name correctly within a stipulated time frame, and if the time elapses, he fails.
Puzzles can not be classified as games of chance because all clues have been shown to you, it only needs critical thinking to arrange them. Casinos can not have games like puzzles because there's no chance or luck in it, except they'll put time frame that the player have to beat and win, but I guess that they're not into that kind of timekeeping. Solitaire has elements of chance because of the unknown variables but like puzzles they're not luck based and casinos can not put them up as games for gamblers to play.
237  Economy / Economics / Re: Is the current economic situation really that bad? on: July 20, 2024, 02:05:38 PM
Just stop watching the news; it's always negative, as far as I remember. The economy always returns to the mean/order when there's volatility/chaos. It's like a cycle that is unimportant for working people to pay attention to on a macroscopic scale. Just work hard, save for bad times, and enjoy the good times. There's no need to pay attention to things outside your circle.
It's not easy not to pay attention to a bad and deteriorating economy, except you're among the elites and the very rich who are not affected by hardship. How can you describe a scenerio where the prices of goods keeps skyrocketing but your income is still static? How can you save for hard times when the money in your hand is loosing value everyday? Where your country's fiat is drastically devaluing everyday and you're seeing a lot of hungry and angry people on the streets, I seriously doubt that you will ignore the reality.

You don't need to watch the news to experience the effects of bad governance and global crisis, this is why people from developing countries are migrating in large numbers to developed countries in search of a better life. The youths in my country are planning for a nationwide protest because the hardship is too much, the few rich keeps getting richer while the majority poor keeps getting poorer.
238  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Watin go happen when all exchanges finally remove Nigeria p2p from Dem app? on: July 20, 2024, 12:15:17 PM
Well as Una see d question for the title, I don dey ask myself dis question for a long time now. That time when binance first do Dem own, e no really matter as we still get many other options wey full ground to use run p2p. But now just few na e remain (bybit) Huh Sha dis one no supposed be something wey we as forum members go fear like that as normal normal, update go drop for here. But then, what about our naija people out there? Especially those new ones wey don rush go dey buy crypto because of all these small small airdrop wey just full every where. Dem fit no get idea on how to convert Dem money and come dey panic any how. I dey here say telegram get p2p. But then how do we trust those merchant wey dey there?
P2P na serious matter for inside crypto transactions for Nigeria, now because na through exchanges most people de do am. Now wey most reputable exchanges don shut down dem naira p2p services, if di remaining ones join dem, na im be say scams go de on di increase. Except for trusted people wey you know one on one or di people wey come very highly recommended, you go de risk your coins to do p2p with people wey you no know dem reputations, dis na di reason wey exchanges take de popular.

Anyway naija people no de carry last, anything wey no get head we go find better head put am. If all di beta exchanges remove dem naira p2p, I sure say many reputable members for our board go de run vendor and escrow services, so e no go too affect us. But for many Nigerians wey no know reliable people or platforms to run dem p2p transactions with, dem go de vulnerable to scammers.
239  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is there a legal jurisdiction backing up gamblers against the casino oppression? on: July 20, 2024, 10:49:42 AM
So best solution is only use the trusted casino because they will not sacrifice their reputation for a mere issue on selected user.
This is the most important thing to do. I remember the time I first wanted to gamble, I browsed online about trustworthy gambling sites. Not only that but I also find out about their customer support and how often people are complaining about account ban. As I come to this forum, it becomes very easy for me to see gambling sites that I can use to gamble. I have never had issue before but I follow the rules of the casinos, which is very important.
I agree with this method of choosing only trusted casinos that have built reputation and they will not want to destroy the legacy that they've built. We can liken casino reputations to cryptocurrency, it is always safe to invest in Bitcoin and a few top altcoins that have built reputations in the crypto market, rather than gambling your funds in many projects where most of them are scams. To avoid being scammed by casinos, gamblers should research and know reputable casinos before gambling with them.  It will save a lot of energy and resources to fight and get justice from the oppressions unreliable casinos and bet companies.
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Receive payments directly to exchange wallets on: July 20, 2024, 09:05:11 AM
Here is something that can make me. I participated in several airdrop programs, If the manager requires me a wallet, do I have to install the provider's wallet,
Or can I provide the wallet address that is in the binance account.
For example, I took part in the airdrop program and the manager asked me for a SOL address, and I gave him the SOL address in my Binance account, whether the coins will go to the Binance address or not.
I believe that you've gotten loads of answers to your question from experienced forum members. If they've not sent the coins to you Binance address yet, do the right thing by asking the manager of the possibility of changing the wallet address, if the permission is granted, create a none custodial wallet and send to him. Besides the fact that it's not advisable to store your coins in an exchange because if it's not your keys it's not your coins, the coins sent to your exchange might not be listed in that exchange yet. For your next airdrop rewards, endeavor to only send your none custodial wallet address that you're the sole custodian of the private keys.
