Just to add some evidence to the possible fraudulent Reddit / M2 postponed date was this supposed email tagline they used. It was verbatim  the same as a GitHub message reply from 2015. I actually looked into this the day of but, thought who would be crazy enough to put out something so blatant. So I figured it was possibly true. Since the op isn't backing it up, it must be a fraud. I found it by googling the tagline it's the first thing that comes up.

Whats the rationale for dumping on release?
Go back in history and look whoever or whatever is dumping and running it back has been playing this game for a while. No fundamental rhyme or reason ? Profit ?
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 23, 2016, 03:03:26 AM
That whale can't be making money dumping like that ?  Anyone ? He keeps on doing it for what reasons? Hoping to scare people into dumping ? Or He's making money dumping and shorting, because of other limit/sell orders kicking in ? Economy of scale ? Is it profitable because he's dumping 400 BTC worth and shorting 2x amount at the same time ? Doesn't seem like normal market forces would allow that to be profitable. Reminds me of a joke I once heard. How do you make a small fortune ? Start with a large one ...you will end up with a small one.

If he is a guy who bought 200k FCT in the ICO - he can make profit. But I have no doubt that the price will recover soon.

What also could be: He may speculate on the weekend. Over the week it's never safe if the team will release something or not. But now we are near to the weekend and the "risk" that Factom publishes news or releases the M2-public-testnet may be low and that could be seen as opportunity to scare the market to buy lower.

But, just public brainstorming. There are multiple other possible scenarios.

Not sure we are going to see testnet this month. They are leaving it very late now. Hope i'm wrong.

Yes. It's unpredictable. But what I still like in Factom: If we think about the last months they continued to surprise with new partnerships etc. Even boring days are not boring because one never knows if they push something out. ;-)

At this point, if it stays or goes any lower for a few days. I can get some more $$ into an exchange. I keep cost averaging lower and lower.  Sell off what I don't want on the way back up for profit. The problem is once it in the profitable range I end up keeping it all. lol,  Then it starts all over. Smiley

regarding FCT the one thing that holds me back give it a big portfolio position is that as stakeholder u get no share from coin rollout
this means FCT can never become a income source for u and only stay a speculation object

coins like NEM or NXT allow harvesting
even ETH plan to switch towards POS 2018

FCT give u zero way to generate a constant income without sell and reduce ur stock of coins
for anyone beside the max 32 entities (now 1 and with M2 i think 8 )  who sell entry credits and inject data into the chain

This question IMO ultimately comes down to Income vs. Appreciation. There's no income potential with FCT, but the expectation of the trade-off is that FCT will appreciate more quickly.

If, theoretically, you were to reinvest theoretical FCT income, and compared that portfolio to one of non-income-generating but more-quickly appreciating FCT, I think you'd find that Appreciation beats Income any day. The benefit of Income is liquidity, but if you don't care about liquidity—if you're not looking specifically for Income from your crypto portfolio—you'd do better with Appreciation.

as i said FCT is a great speculation vehicle but no self sustaining income source

i like a mindset where even we the small investors can contribute to the network and get rewarded without a reduction of our coin share more

this is true with POS coins
this is true with masternode coins
this is true with harvesting possible coins

this is not true for FCT

to split coin rollout into a 50% parts spread between the 32 big companies
and 50% between FCT shareholder who support the network
would have been so much better im sad they didnt take this path

in the end FCT are just crowdsale tokens but the whole ecosystem is designed in a way that crowdsale investors can do nothing beside sell with their tokens

the real big income will be earned by a handful companies and the whole network infrastructure core network nodes are managed by them

FCT decentralisation is very weak and a shame for the base vision satoshi nakamoto had for blockchain based economy of the future

I don't see the relevance in your argument. Your comparing apples to concrete. Bitcoin is Bitcoin,  Master node is Master node, Factom is Factom. By the way BTC doesn't offer continued income either unless you're a miner. After the last coin is mined? If you want POS, then invest in POS. If you want Pow invest in Pow. Factom is neither never claimed to be ? Factom would be more like BTC without the mining.

I feel you don't understand the massive upside potential of Factom. The end product of Factom is 100% verifiably decentralized. That is the basis of their business model. Factom is a, scaleable side-chain, massive entry system. It would be very difficult to be 100% decentralized at this stage.

One they are a real company, not a coin or a dao. That means they are  responsible to those clients and investors for the products they are selling along with company growth.  Having control over to execute company growth to pivot and scale when needed, is essential. They have to maintain control of some of their processes to do that.  You're implying they are not running the Federated servers decentralized enough? You think they should allow anyone to build, upgrade an maintain specced servers ? I can see some problems with that idea. Growth being one, BTC and Chinese miners also come to mind. In the end, it doesn't change the end product is 100% decentral written into BTC and ETH blockchain.

Factom's job is to take real world companies and be an on-ramp to the crypto world. They are a massively scalable entry system, with hundreds or possibly thousands of unforeseeable side eco-systems. I can think of one side ecosystem right now me or anyone could start tommorrw, that would add billions and billions of entries with unlimited growth potential.

I even talked to Mr. Snow about it, you know what he said? It's on our list!  This is just one side ecosystem into Factom.

In short, here what I discussed:

Adaptable voting software that's scalable, from a H.O.A to country level presidential elections. Voting software that tallies and provides everyone both anonymity, and public scrutiny at the same time. The public ledger allows the individual voter to check their hash to ensure it was counted correctly, same with precinct level tallies. There is a chain of vote custody that almost 100% eliminates voter fraud. Even a sample hash recount could be possible if enough voters came forward and presented their hash receipt.
I envision anyone with a home computer, smartphone or a simple Raspberry Pi level voting machine/s, to use the voting platform software and the Factom's chain. It's cheap, efficient, and could reach billions of voters almost instantly, and again the best part all entries go through Factom.
The cost is within reach of most at a 1/10 of a cent per vote. I'm not sure how corrupt governments or the like would receive this system, but it's definitely good for the end users. There is an unlimited market for this product, any country, local government, corporation, even the BTC block size debate. It would be very useful if time permitted in the upcoming U.S. election, however, I feel such demand for such a product will be more so afterward.
::

It's been discussed in detail in this forum if you want to look it up. Billion entries = $400 us FCT price. This amount was discussed to be needed by just one potential Factom client in the financial industry.

Factom Dump .. Oh Well Back to the Bottom..

FCT IMO has a large whale holding a ton of coins. Since there is only 8mil coins and insiders hold over half. This only leaves a certain amount tradable, plus lack of a good wallet  leaves  a lot of coins trapped on Polo. That doesn't help the panic selling.  Notice how the whale won't let the price run above a certain point before he starts his short games. I'm thinking his risk reward for a margin call gets too expensive above that point. He also risk losing control, his famous 100 btc dump short which I think lost some of its effectiveness. This time he used slow bleed ? Short ? Like letting the air out of a tire, trying not to cause a swing in either direction and risking it getting away from him, until he had it in panic selling territory. FCT maybe his trading golden goose and isn't going to let go without a fight. Which also begs the question of him having some insider knowledge track. To short openly during the possible release of M2 or test-net doesn't make much sense unless you already know what's going on. Something else that plays into this, is that FCT is traded primarily on just Polo. Bittrex doesn't add much volume.
This is just my opinion. Either way I need to get on his buy and sell contact list Smiley
My guesstimate is this whale is in this 500-700 Btc range judging from the dumps, sell off's and runs.

Whatta DUMP!
Nothing to see here just the FCT whale trying to earn. Eventually someone bigger will take him out.
This is like the 30th attemp overtime, I guess ? After a while you get used to it. Lol
If I had more change I would double down again.

When asked in the Reddit thread (mentioned below) about M2's release date, Paul Snow replied:

"We are testing, and will release a Test Net first, and run that for a few weeks. If all goes well, then we will release. So I'd watch for the Test Net."

Yeah .. reading between the lines here for those with eyes to see. LOL

The "So I'd watch for the Test Net." seem like a double entendre. Hinting to very soon. Just speculating thought take with a grain of salt.

Can someone remind me if the public testnet was promised by end of Sept, or M2?

https://www.reddit.com/r/factom/comments/50a4cl/factom_letter/

Goals For August / September 2016:
Network Goal: Surpass 4,000,000 entries in the Factom Network Investment Goal: Close Series A, add additional strategies. Business Goal: Focus in on key industries with highest profitability. Development Goal: Promote Factom public Testnet release candidate to production

Pretty close to 4mil entries with 2 weeks left to go. Seems they are executing and hitting their targets.

Paul seems to play close to the vest, and would rather under promise and over deliver. Factom as a company does that. It's been said before, other crypto's announced in a press release when it's a developers birthday. Factom has so much going on they only announce on real news.

The "So I'd watch for the Test Net." seems like a double entendre. Since it was repeated, hinting at very soon. Just speculating, take it with a grain of salt.

I want to mention something kind of related to Paul and double entendre's it's one of those things that stuck out. Kind of seemed a little non-sequitur, a little out of charter I guess. Watching a youtube video a few weeks ago, Paul was talking at the end I believe to a question in relation to other cryptos, Visa, Master card sized volume transactions, and what Factom can do. "People are going to be blown away at what Factom can do." I'm paraphrasing a little but that's the general statement. To hear Paul say that was kind of a whoa-wow moment that stuck with me.

There was recently a commit from their Senior QA Analyst.
Its really close.

Well the good news is from everything I've gathered everything seems to be on track.

Company Aug-Sept release date it's still Sept.
All the hints we've got.

The massive rise in Factoms price without news ? Insider increasing stake ?
Github massive drop about M2
Exodus working with Factom on new wallet release/ talked about the M2 release.
Reports of exchanges temp disable ? Hard-fork ?
Factom now on both chains BTC/ETH
Senior Factom analyst "It's really close"
Paul Snow Ceo  "we are testing the heck out of M2"
Paul "working to improve the wallets too"
Paul said to watch for the testnet release then 2 weeks after.

In other words "Keep calm and Factom"

Factom price? Possibly sideways price action, or a whale trying to capitalize one last time before the M2.
We should see another spike on the Testnet release and a ramp up from there.

FCT wallet withdrawal/deposits temporarily disabled on Polo

From Reddit

You can move your FCT to a paper wallet.
We are working to improve the wallets too, and we are testing the heck out of M2.

it looks like the wallet is under maintenance on polo

Most likely related to the M2 release. I spoke with Daniel Castagnoli Exodus Co-Founder & CCO via email about 2 weeks ago regarding release of Factom's wallet. He said  "I can say this; we are in early integration testing with the Factom team now. There is a vital component (called receipts in the upcoming Factom Milestone 2 release) we require before Exodus support is complete."  So who knows that was 2 or so weeks ago.  So there is definite movement on both sides going on right now.

I am not trolling, I am trying to get answers, I wanted to see a revolution, but only thing I see is a personal attack.

Sorry for my English, I do not know what

means. I already said "with capitalization over 26,000,000 USD" so people see a merit in Factom. Thanks for your time anyway, good luck, I mean no harm.

No one has attacked you ?  But you're making some off the wall claims, Factom is doing 100%+ what it has laid out in its white papers. No trickery or slight of hand. If you haven't grasped the concept by now you probably shouldn't be investing in anything without the advice of a professional. No one thinks you're being clever to be polite. You come off as a know it all kid who hasn't a clue. Factoms concept isn't that difficult to grasp with the exception of it's currency, that's why I think you should seek professional advice before investing/speculating in anything.

Thanks haggis for comment - again unfortunately - does not seem much related to what I wrote.

If you really think a marketing blondie said something with a value, do not hesitate and enlighten us all, sharing is caring.

Anchoring is every 10 minutes as stated in the whitepaper I linked.

I have never said you have to store in the blockchain 1:1 - you can, but why, just chain - hash. Repeating myself. Again.

BTW there is a FREE service running with API for proven timestamping applied on bitcoin blockchain - guess what - they just chain hashes at the end of the day.

I see you are all selling a thin air Smiley
Indeed. You just should go ahead and build a wrapper company about this FREE API and then confince experienced investors, DHS, Wall Street and other institutions to rate your company with $30m.

I'm done with you. Me and others tried to educate you but it looks as you are not interested in it. Just trolling.

So,ah... 50% of coins are in 10 wallets while 93% of coins are in 100 wallets? Lol..I'll pass.

Do you have a link? Is this true?

It's public information in the block explorer:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/nav/#!rich

I think he's talking about the Wealth Distribution chart on the right.

Considering today's 24 hour volume is over 50% of the total market cap I am not surprised by this at all. A huge amount of NAV must be sitting in the exchange wallets which often get grouped together.

Sure it doesn't have the spread of some of the bigger coins, but we'll get there, don't fret.

NAV 2 million market cap vs SDC 12 million? Why is Nav so much undervalued than SDC?   If SDC reaches half of Monero market cap then that put's it in the 100 mil range. So Nav could be worth at least 60-100 mil as well.  If Monero does what I think it will do 500 mil to 1 bil market cap which is like 9-17 % of BTC's market cap. Then you can see where all this is going. Stock up on SDC/NAV.

Dark markets whisper NAV/SDC as contenders? Who know's but they are def in play.

Thanks, my question is more..

the Crowdsale raised 4.3m credits I believe
The Equity sale of 1.1m was for Equity in Factom Inc, correct?
Where did the rest of the 8.7m credits come from/who owns them?

The distribution of FCT as stated on this thread and during the token sale was 50% token sale, 20% early investors, 30% to people who contributed to the project. There was a total of just over 8 million FCT.

They are not many so it's very easy for a third party whale to stock up and make the good and bad weather on exchanges.
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: September 05, 2016, 09:22:27 AM
Thanks a lot for explanations through the last 3 pages.
I still view Factom only as a "sugar" that may attract customers without technical knowledge, but the same can be (and it already was partly) done around Bitcoin.

If "it is the same as with Bitcoin", how can you ensure the price for storing hashes is going to stay the same 0.01$, if the space in the blockchain is scarce ?

And why go through all the hassle through BTC-FCT-Factoid-EC if I just can use my BTC directly to store my hashes into Bitcoin blockchain ?

Sorry, too many questions Wink

A good simple use case would be a will. In court, Factom can prove that the will in question is correct and not been altered and latest copy.

Factom is like a factual authority beyond question.  Factom creates fingerprints of objects like a passport and stores that fingerprint on its blockchain. After Factom gets to say a 100 different passports fingerprints it then creates another fingerprint of that stack and files that stack away by locking it into bitcoins block chain. Now customs scans passport's linked to the factom blockchain to check to see if that passport is valid and not altered.

These are just a few use cases, basically any legal document, contract, any financial documents, titles of ownership, inter company documents, these are just a few off the top of my head.

In factom , you have factoids and also have entry credits. Entry credits are like Ethereum gas.

Entry Credis are not a tradable token, large institutions who are forbidden from using cryptocurrency can use Factom. All they need is an EC key, which can be refilled by outsiders taking credit cards or PO orders. The outsiders would handle the vagaries of the market and all the regulatory uncertainty which might be involved.

purchased entry credits, factoids are removed from circulation. These factoids are not recaptured by the servers, and are gone forever.

I think these re-post might answer your questions.

Adding entries to Bitcoin blockchain directly is very expensive
Prices for Bitcoin transactions are not stable. Cost for adding 1kb data to factom is.
You can't create custom chains on Bitcoin
To store data on Bitcoin blockchain you need to own Bitcoin and handle all the bookkeeping and legal stuff involved with having cryptos, which is a nogo for many companies. At Factom you buy EntryCredits which can't be traded and in the background Factoids get burned. That's a perfect abstraction layer to allow companies using a blockchain without dealing with cryptos.

Factom the hashes, and hashes are data, are stored forever - in Factom and the Bitcoin-Blockchain. But the data that is hashed is not stored by Factom. It has to be that way, because nobody would want to store personal data, like medical records, on a blockchain.

The sense is: Let's say a bank hashes transactions and places the hashes into Factom and Factom into the Bitcoin-Blockchain ---> one year or five years later the bank has proof that nothing was altered or deleted. If there would be a hash in Factom but the file is missing, it would reveal that data was deleted. If there is a file that doesn't match to the hash it was altered etc. Plus: It's also about organizing data and we talk about "big-data" here.

And Factom also can be used to hash access to data. Let's say you work for a bank and you log into your account - Factom can record that as hash (depends on the application, on how the bank uses Factom). And let's say you open a file and change it --> Entry into Factom. So it's not just about the data and hashes but also about responsibility. It makes it much harder to mess with data once it's recorded as hashes. And that is more powerful than most people think because it's not just about objective aspects like:

- Proof of Existence: a document existed in this form at a certain time.
- Proof of Process: a document existed and is linked to this new updated document.
- Proof of Audit: an updated document can be verified to have changed according to a set of rules.

...but also about the way people think and act. That's why it's called "honesty-system". It doesn't prevent dishonest behaviour, it doesn't make it impossible to manipulate or delete data. But Factom would reveal it.

To understand how powerful that is it needs some knowledge about how it's handled today and how much manipulation is going on everywhere on this world with data.

The actual data is stored by the companies as it is currently in their datacenters. With factom they create a merkle tree of this data or hashes of each file (as they like and dependent on use case) and store it in the factom blockchain. If they do it in regular intervals, they have a proofable hashed history of their data. This can be used to either check the integrity of the current data, or to audit the status of data back in history.

I've been buying up more FCT at these levels and am about to squeeze the shit out of the shorts.

Stand back...

I'm all in.. Buying every dip. No one has provided one compelling reason to sell other than bs. I have to admit it's definitely a gut check to buy in the face of a sell-off however, I like to buy things on sale.

the market reaction is clear and we will see sub 500 maybe even sub 400 again

dont get me wrong i think FCT have a high potential

but the time to raise and stay high is not here now

coins who have lending added at poloniex

are way more vulnerable to massive sells

think my words when it happens

and it happend
Good Call BTW!
