221  Economy / Marketplace / Re: The Niche List on: November 18, 2010, 12:24:00 PM
I'm all for a vWorker/freelancer style site that pays bounties in bitcoin. This way, people can do some useful work for bitcoins, instead of complaining it is hard to get free money with mining.

It would need to be secure and have some kind of escrow system. So unlike posting requests on the forum, the worker has to be sure that he gets his reward. It also needs to include a reputation system of some kind.

I have extensive Python/C++ programming expertise, also with transactional and distributed systems, and I might be interested to do the coding for such a site. I would need someone to do the site design/layout/user friendliness stuff though Smiley

I could help with the design/layout.

223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Can wallet.dat be used by several miners on different computers? on: November 11, 2010, 11:57:16 AM
That's not possible, as new keys are added to the wallet with each generated block. Use the the RPC interface to send coins to a single wallet.

By the way, what options are you using on the charting site to get those bubble-looking shaded areas?

Select a "Price Band" Smiley

I'll try to find a good way to add such a feature to the new backend. Probably as an addon to the "All USD" chart.

Could you link in a Gold $ spot price from a different source? Then divide the BTC price in USD from MtGox by this Spot Gold price, automatically..?

Theoretically that could be done. Do you mean dividing all historic BTC/USD trades by the current spot price? What's the use for such a chart? Maybe I can add an input field for a custom scaling factor. Would that work?

BTC/difficulty chart would be interesting.

How would you draw such a chart?
Divide cents per bitcoin by the difficulty, and plot on a graph with a logarithmic Y axis.

I'll consider it for the rewrite I'm currently working on.

One more question:
The "volume in currency" option does not work. Is there a way to make this work? thanks

Works fine here. Does it work if you click "Update" and does it say "Nov 08, 2010 - Daily - Volume in Currency" in the chart?

It would be nice to see a BTC/gold chart... Smiley

I don't know of any other BTC market that trades BTC for gold other than bcm PecunixGAU.

Is this an ongoing offer? Can we still buy in?

No, the offer won't be repeated.
233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone willing to buy Mhash/s? / distributed hashing on: November 07, 2010, 04:34:35 PM
Whats the expiry date please?

30 days, i.e. the earliest will end on wednesday.
234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Average block generation time on: November 07, 2010, 01:09:18 PM
Average Time = difficulty * 2^32 * hour / (3600 * hashrate)
235  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin charting tool on: November 07, 2010, 12:13:59 PM
Do you mind sharing the name of the charting library?

Oh I thought it was saying that somewhere in the chart.
It's ChartDirector from http://advsofteng.com/
236  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin charting tool on: November 07, 2010, 03:17:18 AM
It's based around a charting library with a lot of PERL and python code to glue it to the markets.
237  Economy / Economics / Re: bitcoin charting tool on: November 05, 2010, 09:19:30 PM
new features:

* show volume in currency rather than BTC
* compare two different markets in one chart (not to scale yet...)
