221  Other / Off-topic / Re: $16,264.50 ......I'm a fucking idiot on: June 11, 2014, 06:24:43 PM
Since I joined the Bitcoin bandwagon in November 2013, this is how much money I have put into Coinbase to purchase bitcoins.

Currently I only have 12 BTC, yes just 12, valued at $5367............. I have lost about 11 bitcoins investing in Alt coins (one of the Alt coins I put a huge amount of went form 80 satoshi to 2 satoshi and the devs left the coin, so I consider that money gone). I also have about 2 BTC worth of LTC but given my luck i might as well consider that gone too.

I need 1BTC to be $1355.375 in order to break even. So I have to bank on BTC going above ATH again. And if by some chance 1BTC passes $4k mark I will have $40,000 and I will be very happy (this is the only thought that keeps me from being depressed right now).

If I waited and spent that $16K now, I could have had 36 bitcoins in my posession.

How much of a fucking idiot am I?

I don't even know how the fuck I was able to spare $16K form Nov 2013 to now since I don't even have any savings myself (but no debts either)

A lot of us lost a decent amount of $$ in the greater ship of fools theory.  THat being that there would be more people buying into altcoins and it'd be some sort of craze.  Instead, people just made more and more of their own coins diluting what little capital was being pumped into the altcoin market.

SO why not post the advert here ?  Not everyone uses Facebook.  (Yea, big surprise but true)  I am interested in a writing contest, but this post is nothing but an ad for an ad ?
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New coin development - Call to arms. on: June 11, 2014, 06:06:25 PM
This is exactly the kinda idea I've been having ever since I got involved in crypto-trading.

I'm interested to know what is "exactly the kinda idea" you're talking about, since the OP said, literally, NOTHING specific about any idea he has.

He said "I'm tired of scams". That's all.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you're the OP's sock puppet. It's the only way to explain someone being so gung-ho about an "idea" that doesn't have any content.

ROFL.  Exactly.  I was wondering if this was going to be another thread where someone rallied up the cause against scam coins.  Then I see the poster wants to make just another coin with no new ideas because he is "tired" of how it is now. Give us a break.  This place becomes more and more transparent. There are dozens and dozens of non scam coins.  If OP was serious at least he'd say what it is new that he is bringing to the table.
224  Economy / Economics / Re: eBay to allow settlements in crypto on: June 11, 2014, 05:51:05 PM
The problem with this is that eBay wishes to provide consumer protections. eBay provides these protections by allowing the seller access to their funds almost immediately, the seller will ship the product, and the buyer will leave positive feedback when they see the product is as advertised. When there is a dispute that is ruled in favor of the buyer then eBay can simply charge back the seller's bank account and reimburse the buyer.

If eBay were to provide the same level of protection it would not be able to release the funds to the seller until a longer time then it can now.

One alternative could be to allow buyers to pay in BTC but eBay would convert the BTC to fiat and pay sellers in fiat. This would mean that eBay would act in a way that is little different then an exchange.

This is simply not true. For example, you pay me $20 for a stick of RAM. The funds are immediately "available". I walk down to the atm with my PayPal debit card, and pull the $20 out in cash. My account is now at $0. You decide the RAM is not what I promised, and complain. Paypal reverses that charge, leaving my account $-20. Only problem is I still have a $20 bill in my pocket. This is no different than if I took the $20 out in BTC. PayPal would still make my account $-20.

What paypal has to figure is how to let people use bitcoin, without people deciding to go around their system. There is a lot to consider here. Paypal could limit their integration with bitcoin simply to withdrawals, and not let you actually denominate your account in BTC. They could also become a full wallet. They would control the private key, and still act as an escrow and take their cut. They could even allow direct btc to btc payments, similar to how "friends and family" no charge payments are already done. No escrow, no fee. Bitcoin is a risk to paypals empire, and they know it. They know bitcoin is likely unstoppable. They can only hope to be the first major bitcoin payment provider to market. They still have time, but they have to beat out google and amazon. They know this as well. That's why it will be done, and it will be soon. This year. Paypal doesn't have to be early, just before another major player. It would not surprise me if they have fully functional bitcoin support in alpha. Exciting times guys.

BTC etc works outside the legal system in a gray area.  So you have to clean out your bank account for your scenario to work and you would have to continue to have that account in the negative.  If your bank covered the overdraft, then you'll owe your bank.  This will follow you around until you clear it up.

I agree about the rest though. The chances of this stuff happening are near 0.  Paypal has a monopoly of fees.  Giving BTC credibility does little but undermine their business longterm.  Ebay doesn't sell things, they are middlemen who collect fees.  What little business they gain from BTC they pay for in a whole slew of other areas.
225  Other / Off-topic / Re: What video games do you play? on: June 11, 2014, 05:43:47 PM

I became super addicted to Dungeon Defenders.  Any tower defense I find addictive.  Well done ones can take months of my life away.  I think I will be avoiding DDII.  Infact, I try to avoid games in general because they can become so addictive.
226  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: BUY BTC with PayPal on: June 11, 2014, 05:27:17 PM
But I just want to buy my first bitcoin, why should I do a chargeback?
Can I pay in "sending money to friends / relatives", no problem.
Can you help me? Now I have the funds in the account, otherwise I would have paid otherwise.

Paypal is big into helping scammers.  If they can't verify the items were sent they just default on the side of the purchaser.  This is why no one deals with PayPal.  So I purchase some bitcoins, say I didn't receive them and get my money book.  Literally the old trick in the online book.

If you are serious and not out to scamming, take WU or something that isn't reversible.  Or use coinbase ?
227  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: PrimeDice Happy Hour - 10,000 Satoshi/Min! for next hour! on: June 11, 2014, 05:23:23 PM

So even if you don't win enough from the faucet to cash out, if you are able to gamble that up to the min cashout requirement then you get the BTC ?  It isn't like you have to win 50,000 satoshi or nothing, correct ?  The limitation is just on the cashout ... ?

I'm all for it. They're not stifling free speech, they're stifling ignorance and stupidity, one of the greatest threats to the survival and well-being of the human race.

So you are all for silencing speech that you consider ignorant and stupid? Not only are you ignorant and stupid, but you are also a fascist and that has nothing to do with climate science.

It is just as facist of you to think you should be able to say what you want in private forums and everyone should be forced to read it even though that is not what they went there for.

You might not like it, but you're no less of a fascist yourself.

I think you need to look up the definition of fascism and then apply it to the context of the discussion.

Fascism really has nothing to do with it at all.  It is a privately held message board.  I understand you don't like that those people choose not to read you people anymore.  I've given the skeptics plenty of time here to try and convince me.  Blech.  You feel entitled to make people listen to you in a privately owned forum meant for one purpose.  People have this right to remove you all the time and should continue.  Nothing to do with fascism. They're no more fascists than you are for insisting on some sort of entitlement of venue.

Do any of those casino licensing entities matter at all ?  They never seemed to do anything for online poker sites.

I always wonder if Bitcoin hadn't been such a Western invention and had came about in China, would they still have the same approach ?

The fallacy is believing that carbon is a green house gas, water vapor in the air causes more warming.  What about the sun...north pole migration...doesnt volcanoes cool the planet?  These are some of the things I never hear the global warming crowd talking about.  Answer this?  Where did all the carbon come from in the past?  Was it man-made or natural.

I'm tired of the nonsense from you loons, but i can't pass this last one up.  No one believes "carbon" is a green house gas.  Pure idiocy.  "Where did it come from!?!" <guffaw>
Carbon is not a green house gas.

Carbon is not a gas except at >5000F temperature.

You need to think before talking.

And where in any way human accessible is carbon a gas ?  Yes, every element can become a gas AFAIK.  We are talking within the context of global warming.   Thinking of Carbon as a gas has anything to do global warming demonstrates with 100% certainty why you guys were shutdown on Reddit.

239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: May 20, 2014, 08:22:22 AM

Why can't Chinese or wherever they're from program their own cryptocurrencies?  They think $20-$50 investment gives them a right to be vile and negative.  No one else bother to interpret what they say please if they're too lazy to do it themselves.  They talk about real world and real business, as if their $50 investment would go anywhere.

People would be willing to buy them out.  Personally, I didn't even realize we are behind schedule.  It is quite obvious this isn't a scam given all the postings from the authors.  Whine whine whine ..  I bet all of them are just waiting to dump and feel entitled to do so as soon as possible.
240  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: May 19, 2014, 09:09:35 PM
We need to build on that reputation.  Distribution !  Lets distribute it further !

If we could make a phone app and give away 1k NEM to every phone # who installed it, I would easily donate 10 maybe 20% to this.

Maybe this app could be tied into some GPS utilizing game ?  Lets get the name out there and get wallets that work for anyone at any time.  This does not need to be an internet currency.  Lets do something different.  NXT asset exchange is neat, but NEM doesn't need to compete with that for now.  NEM needs to win hearts and minds.  Lets do that first !

I have similar feelings. Actually I'd like to distribute some NEMs once we'll be up and running, but not sure yet how, probably it'll be friends and family.

Regarding GPS game, I was thinking about geocaching (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching).

  • Generate some random address
  • send some nems to it (i.e. 10_000)
  • put private key in a tube and hide it somewhere
  • post localization on one of the geo caching sites

edit I would neither say it's a private key nor I would leave any message how to access it, person would have to find it out by themself.

Excellent !!  I wish there was a way to "reload" the site without visiting and depositing a new private key.  I suppose you could attempt to rely on the person who found it to leave the majority behind, but then it is hard to put real money there.  (More than $10).   Too much incentive for the person to take it all.  I love this idea though.  Distribution through geocaching.  Too much fun.  You could also make it fairly difficult and retain the private key for the funds would never be totally wasted.  If the funds are not found within a year, just take them back remotely and deposit it somewhere else.

How about when NEM has an asset exchange!  You could form an asset, and put them out there as a contest.  The person with the most assets at the end of the game wins something.   A brand new COLOR TV !!!!

I LOVE THIS GAME !!!!
