221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What happens to Bitcoins that are sent to a non-existent address? on: September 02, 2012, 07:18:51 PM
ah, thank you two for the help! I was always under the impression that if coins were sent to a completely non-existent address, it would still leave the wallet, but later return to the sender's address.

222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / What happens to Bitcoins that are sent to a non-existent address? on: September 02, 2012, 07:09:08 PM
In three situations:

1) If the coins are sent from a local wallet
2) If the coins are sent from an online wallet with a static address
3) If the coins are sent from an online wallet with a dynamic address

I've always been afraid of mis-copying/mis-pasting an address into the corresponding field, so I want to get this cleared to prevent future worry.

Would appreciate any info :]

Thanks!
223  Economy / Services / Re: Increase Your Dropbox Storage - up to 16 GB on: August 24, 2012, 07:53:00 PM
Purchased 17 referrals from dropboxexpander!
Pleasure doing business with you. I'll return if the maximum allowed referrals quota ever rises. Likely won't be rising, but it's always nice to be optimistic.

Perfect! Thanks btc-e!

Is there something wrong with the site at the moment or is it just me that's getting either a "Bad Gateway" or "Error: The database server is not available now, so the page cannot be displayed correctly."?
226  Economy / Services / Re: [WTS]Dropbox upgrade to 18GB life time for 1BTC on: August 24, 2012, 08:19:44 AM
softwareseller, one more question: although I'm currently at 15.4GB on my free account, I've only made about 10 referrals. I know I can get more than this, but would I be able to surpass the 18GB? Or are free accounts limited to 18GB of storage?
227  Other / Off-topic / How to get an accurate microSDHC speed test? on: August 24, 2012, 05:29:16 AM
Simply shoving an .mp3 or .avi never seems to determine it's real speed. It's always varying/depending on the size or file type.

How do I perform an accurate speed test? Like those ones people include in their SD card reviews on NCIX/Newegg.

Any help is appreciated!

There's also Tor, if you don't mind transfer rates of <50kbps.
229  Economy / Services / Re: Increase Your Dropbox Storage - up to 16 GB or buy a 66 GB account on: August 23, 2012, 08:11:30 AM
dropboxexpander, I have a free Dropbox account currently at 15.4GB, expanded mostly from offers such as uploading camera photos for an extra 5GB, link Dropbox to any Android for 5GB, but only have about 8 referrals.

If I purchased referrals from you, would I be able to expand my storage limit past 18GB? I read on another thread that no matter what, a free account would only be able to have a maximum of 18GB storage, so I want to make sure with you beforehand.

Thanks very much for this providing this service.

I decide not to raise price despite the recent crash of USD/BTC rate
I bought mine @ ~12 range... do I get a partial refund?   Cool
Ask the pizza guy to return 9997 BTC and I'll also refund you Smiley
Nicely played sir...

Hahaha +1

What does the animation even mean...

Okay, yeah, right. Yeah, sure, we believe you. Roll Eyes

But how does Oat Hay translate into that...?

You do know Jennifer Lawrence isn't actually mouthing "Oat Hay", right? The gesture's supposed to be translated as "uh-huh, yeah right."

softwareseller, I'm already at 15.4GB, how much would you like for 15.4GB -> 18GB?
233  Economy / Speculation / Re: will bitcoin fall below $7 today on: August 20, 2012, 02:33:31 AM
still feeling the same way or was 7.58 the floor?

This is no rebound. What we have on our hands are individuals trying to rise the price themselves by buying high. Because of this, we also have other individuals thinking that the rise of Bitcoin/USD is now.

Simply looking at the BTC price history, these rapid rises don't last very long.
234  Economy / Economics / Re: What exactly is happening on Monday? (tomorrow) on: August 19, 2012, 07:20:21 PM
Its just crashing because everyone is trying to improve their positions.

But by panic-selling? I mean sure it brings them out of the game and into the safe zone, away from this depression, but wasn't there an initial cause of this panic?

I don't think its really even that much panic, its just people trying to accumulate bitcoins.

I'll admit that the moment I saw the almost-instantaneous $15 -> $13 drop, I panicked. I had no coins on hand, but I worried about my mining.
If people were trying to accumulate Bitcoins however, the price would rise. These people trying to accumulate Bitcoins are just reaping from the panic-selling phase.

I was hoping to ask what has been happening recently and what would be happening tomorrow. I've been reading the post-crash threads, and I keep seeing "just wait until Monday". I'm not very familiar with what happened during the crash, so I would appreciate any help.

From my understanding: the owner (pirateat40) of Bitcoin Savings & Trust (investment fund) decided to end his business. In order to make the final payout to investors, he had to purchase a whole lot of Bitcoins (resulting in market peak of $15-$16).

Then there was the crash to $13, a bit of fluctuation between $12-14, and now it's dropping even further, below $8. Why is it crashing like this?

And why do people have hope for tomorrow's market?
237  Other / Beginners & Help / Who was the user that annouced his suicide on Bitcointalk? on: August 02, 2012, 12:19:18 AM
Back when I was only a lurker of the economics and speculation section, there was a thread that was created by a user stating that he was making his last post. It was assumed that he meant he was about to commit suicide.

What happened exactly? I only saw a glimpse of that whole situation, as it didn't really concern me. I'm quite curious now though, what happened to that man?
238  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Purchasing gold on Coinabul: 1 Troy Oz ≠ 1oz! on: August 02, 2012, 12:14:35 AM
Yep, for silver and gold, hen people say ounce, they mean troy ounce.

For copper and other non-precious metals, and ounce is avoirdupois.

Ounces are stupid. Grams FTW!

Ah, so in regards to precious metals, 1 ounce is really 1 troy ounce. Thank you very much for clarifying that with me.
239  Other / Beginners & Help / Purchasing gold on Coinabul: 1 Troy Oz ≠ 1oz! on: August 01, 2012, 10:51:22 PM
Let's first establish the difference between an Ounce and a Troy Ounce:

1 oz = 0.911458333 Troy oz

Take a look at the screen shot below. On the navigation bar, I chose to view the 1 Troy Oz Gold options. The first item on the list is a Gold Coin weighing 1 Troy Oz, that's understandable.

The following two bars however, Credit Suisse & Perth Mint, do those also weight 1 Troy Oz? I realize that it does say Credit Suisse - 1 ounce bar, but I just need confirmation that it is truly a whole oz.

Hearing from Coinabul himself would fully clear my worry, but if anyone's purchased an oz of gold in the form of a bar and can let me know, that would work too.

Thank you.
240  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to safely store LTC for a long period of time? on: July 12, 2012, 07:37:55 AM
You can make a litecoin paper wallet. Download https://github.com/jackjack-jj/pywallet, and do "python pywallet.py --otherversion=48 --dumpwallet", then copy the addresses and their corresponding private keys onto a piece of paper (either by hand or print it out).

Ah, that's new to me, copy the private key to backup a wallet?

Would that work?

To recover the wallet, I assume that I would simply input my private key into that paper wallet application, and it would just generate my wallet that I previously had?
