221  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Ice-Dice.com] Free 0.01BTC Promotion for New Accounts! on: October 14, 2013, 07:21:13 PM
So, if I take the 0.01, bet 100 times at 90%, I can then withdraw the coins, as long as I didn't lose, and I get 0.01 for basically free, right?

Yes, however I just raised it to 200 now because a lot of people were doing that and many people withdrew the free coins plus 10x winnings. If people keep doing this we would go bankrupt soon at this rate so I will try if 200 is more sustainable. The goal of the free coin is for players to try the site out. We are a business after all and we can't keep giving out free money.

Where are the free coins coming from? If one were to invest in the site, the giveaway is not coming from the bank roll is it?

Also, very interesting, from main KNC thread:

It is really easy for anyone to prove that the DETERMINING FACTOR into their purchase was the KNC statement posted on frontpage on their website that the orders will be delivered until Oct 15th. If KNC knew they would be late, that would mean they intentionally used false information in order to increase sells, which could probably incur really high fines or other penalties, going to criminal charges against company execs and their business licence being revoked. If they can prove they were really expecting to complete deliveries by Oct 15th and did all due diligence to accomplish that, they'd still have to compensate customers and/or fully refund their orders.
KNC is in no position to play fool now and they better choose their words VERY carefully when communicating next time with their customers.

All kinds of internet lawyers lurking aren't there? Only thing more prevalent than lawyers on forums, is assholes.
I take it you were looking in a mirror when you wrote that?

Actually, you were the one quoting the internet lawyer. I'll let you pick which one was you.
224  Economy / Gambling / Re: [Ice-Dice.com] Free 0.01BTC Promotion for New Accounts! on: October 14, 2013, 05:55:16 PM
Minimum bet is too high.

0.0001 is too high? That's like betting 1 cent each round, less than that isn't worth the load on the server imo.

When you let your auto bet script run with no delay, 10,000 bets can be done in a few minutes. And then 1 cent is too high.

Well I wouldn't want that because the server will take a beating. It's ready taking a beating right now with a huge surge in traffic. Let's hope you guys don't take the server down haha.

That's not very reassuring that your overloaded shared host might go down because of a few people playing. Why should we deposit coins with you again?

1. I'm not on shared hosting, our server is way more than enough to handle the whatever regular users activity, as long as users play by the rules.
2. No server is bullet proof, JD and SD all could be taken down with a large enough DDOS, even Facebook goes down once in a while.
3. Majority of the coins are stored safely in a cold storage away from the server, and the server itself is well secured. It is in my best interest to maintain a good reputation. If coins are stolen then there goes the reputation of my business so it's my highest priority to avoid that from happening.

I did not say shared hosting. I said shared host. You're telling me that you're not on a VPS? right...

227  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - China wall movement tracker on: October 14, 2013, 04:40:00 PM
I guess china will be the first country to ban bitcoin officially, since Chinese government own their central bank, they don't want another competing currency disturbing their money printing business. But if US government officially support bitcoin, they might just follow

I'm not so sure about this. China CB as been buying gold (massive amounts in the last few years) whereas the US has been selling, and we don't even know that the gold the US claims is in their vaults is really there (they defaulted on Germany's gold last year when delivery was requested.) Gold is not something CBs buy en masse when they are interested in saving their rapidly inflating fiat currency at all costs. In fact China has recently made statements expressing interest in an entirely new currency standard and their gold purchases may be to help back such an endeavour.

Also, bitcoin may be very important for money laundering by high chinese officials. And we know how rampant corruption is over there. (I lol because it's rampant over here too, although it's a bit harder to bribe the zoning board for a ruling exception in the US so maybe it's not as prevalent in the lower levels.) Sure, they could make it illegal for the general populace yet find ways for these officials to launder.... OTOH, with the chinese public participating, price is increasing (and possibly less volatile) which makes it a more efficient vehicle for laundering. Officials may be dragging their feet due to their own [laundering & gambling] self-interest.

I think the chinese goobermint did issue a statement a while back that bitcoin is, in fact, illegal there. They don't seem to be enforcing this, so IDK what that says about its actual legal status...

Also there was that suspicious TV docu on the state channel... they don't just let "big advertisement for bitcoin" air when they are planning on dropping the anvil on it. Something fishy's going on.

Also, while bitcoin could certainly bite the Chinese government and the Yuan, it would bite the USG/USD even harder and we all know how much the chinese wants the US on their knees.

So while they may crack down on bitcoin, it may not be as quickly as we'd expect from a western government, or with the fervour that we'd expect.

And who is not to say that the Chinese government themselves aren't buying them in quantity? With their manipulation of their currency, they can buy gold, bitcoin, US debt with few short term consequences. If they bet right, they never will have to pay for their sins.
228  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - China wall movement tracker on: October 14, 2013, 04:26:31 PM
You almost wonder, if they have the BTC to back the volume or if all this is trading on paper.

Why not? Most ASIC were produced in China

And the correlation between China producing ASIC chips and having a fully funded exchange.... ??

Not sure what you mean but deposit and withdraw requests for both fiat and BTC are timely processed. So they are not trading on paper or having fractional reserve.

Currently, yes. That still doesn't mean they aren't fractional on their BTC side.

I enjoyed the unfinished attacks and problems page from his website:

Quote
Lost Phone “Attack”
< to be written >
• Okay... not really an attack, but we need to address the consequences.

Umm... the consequences being that the average idiot won't have a backup of their master key, and now cannot log into ANY website. The second one being, if it is not password protected, they can be impersonated on ANY website...
232  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: SQRL: revolutionizes web site login and authentication on: October 14, 2013, 02:45:25 PM
So if I use this on my desktop system, your service then gets not one but 2(!) IPs from me (mobile phone + desktop) that it can correlate + 2 browsers to fingerprint...

That was exactly my first thoughts. The entire OP repeats over and over and over again ANONYMOUS!!!

WTF do you mean anonymous? You have two separate devices communicating with the server. You have TOR on the first one, but what do you have on your phone? Anonymous sounds absolutely fucking retarded as the key points.

If you mean, not providing a secret to the server, okay, I understand that, but anonymous should never be used in SQRL's sales pitch in its current design.

Going to Edit this and add some more.

So, target site, amaz0n.com gets a unique nonce from amazon.com and sends it to the user, asking for validation, when validated, let's bad guys log in. It also says how secure it is against xss but it sure sounds like it flat out lets an attack log right in as the user no questions asked if they can get them to their phishing site.

The ramifications of a stolen or compromised master key for every single site... just sound awful.

236  Economy / Economics / Re: Vote for me in 2020 as US President and I'll proclaim bitcoin national currency on: October 11, 2013, 04:37:13 PM

Yep. The idea that someone could become President (obviously the OP has a zero percent chance of becoming so, but this is all a theoretical thought experiment) and then singlehandedly declare bitcoin the national currency is hilariously naive. The President is the head of the executive branch of government. He is not America's king.

I am aware that "singlehandedly declar[ing] bitcoin the national currency is hilariously naive" but my point is more to stir the pot and see what bubbles up.  I know it would, quite literally, take an act of congress to do this...and we all know that congress is currently unable to do anything.

What about my other statement of limiting all politicians to no more than 2 terms?  I'm sure that's a pipe dream as well because it would have to be voted on and "ain't nobody got time for that", to put it eloquently.

I guess the best thing to do would be to replace 535 backwards thinkers with progressive (and by this I mean people who are willing to create change and be open to learning new things, not the republican's horribly negative view on forward thinkers),  young, and enthusiastic people.  Guess we need 535 bitcoiners to run for those positions.

And enough money behind them to dethrone the well financed major parties... Find 535 progressive, young and enthusiastic people would never be a problem. It's getting them elected that becomes unrealistic.

And now, "Gay Life On Bitcoin", a venture by 2 loveable users, Cypherdoc and Avenger.
Let's all donate BTC and send these two on a honeymoon. Anything to get them out of here.

You should be nicer to the mentally disabled.
238  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Countdown to shipping all units - 15th October on: October 11, 2013, 02:45:21 PM
That was posted September 2, before they even had their chips.
Ever tried reading?

Their customer service team are still giving customers who ring/email this date, so they are obviously expecting us to hold them to it.

Yeah, that sure seems official. Some guy on the internet said that they said... I've got a bridge to sell you. Asshole.
239  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Countdown to shipping all units - 15th October on: October 11, 2013, 02:27:14 PM
I will put it this way: if I had to bet I would never bet that they will ship by 15th. They didn't even mention anywhere why they stopped/slowed down prodction/shipping this week.

The bad stability and fire issues maybe?
240  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNC Countdown to shipping all units - 15th October on: October 11, 2013, 02:25:52 PM

All current paid orders will be shipped no later than October 15th.

Timer removed. End time: 2013-10-15+00:00:00CEST

As KNC are keeping all their customers in the dark, not giving us ANY updates on production schedule or shipping, I think it's appropriate we keep an eye on their 15th October shipping pledge.

Their customer service team are still giving customers who ring/email this date, so they are obviously expecting us to hold them to it.

We are.

That was posted September 2, before they even had their chips. They have some other issues they need to work on that might be a little more important than fire boxes heading out the door.
